Orlagh Winters ProfileOK so where is the fine line in dressing for your age?

“Mutton dressed as lamb” is the phrase that every woman over a certain age dreads so here is how to avoid it.

In your twenties, you can basically afford to experiment with all styles and can also afford to make mistakes as chances are you have not invested too much in your items of clothing. So be brave and enjoy developing your look.

There really are no boundaries and it is quite similar to playing dress up as you did as a little girl. Think high street but keep in mind that just because something looks fab on the latest popstar does not mean that it will look good walking down The Mall in Tralee.

Chances are, by the time you reach your thirties, you have become more comfortable with your chosen style. You will have grown into yourself and your confidence will be high.

This is the time of your life where a lot of serious plans are laid, be it in your work life and/or your personal life.

You don’t suddenly start dressing like your mother, but your look should evolve to include key pieces in your wardrobe. At the moment that should include a winter coat and a leather bag that takes you to work and play and if you are a mum, should be able to fit the kitchen sink in (well wipes, soothers, bottles etc.)

Turning forty can be a traumatic time for lots of ladies and is a time that they begin to question their sense of style. This can easily be avoided by dressing in a classic manner.

Instead of wearing that glitter silver dress, use a little embellishment and you will get the desired effect. Hemlines should start to get a little longer but think classic silhouettes and colours and you really can’t go wrong. Confidence is one of the best accessories that a lady can possess, so hold you head high and be confident in yourself and in what you wear.

Reaching fifty, your style will be refined and tailoring will play an important role in your wardrobe choices. Clean lines and structure are key in getting your look right. There are some wonderful choices available and you will certainly find that your wardrobe staples will take you from day to night with a seamless transition.

I am jealous of ladies in their sixties because they just have an air of confidence about them. They have seen it all and chances are that they have seen fashion evolve and revolve quite a few times.

They will more than likely, have been the mother of the bride or groom and looked fabulous while doing so. Elegance is the required look and is achieved with tweeds and well-tailored clothing.

Ladies in their seventies have the best look of all, they look dignified and distinguished and are not afraid to splurge a little on their luxury items. They know how to groom themselves and once again have a confidence that only comes with age.

So girls, there you have it! Dress your age and be confident in your own shoes!

Until next time,
Stay stylish!

Orlagh xx
