Orlagh New 1WHERE will you be at 4.15am on May 7?

If you are in Tralee, the answer to that question should be at CBS The Green waiting to take part in the Darkness Into Light Tralee. The event is taking place to raise much-needed funds for Pieta House.

The idea is to lead the way in darkness to a new dawn and by doing so raising awareness of the stellar work done by Pieta House who coincidentally are located at a new location 28 Moyderwell here in Tralee.

Suicide and mental health is a subject that I have written about before and today suicide is at epidemic proportions in this country. It is for this reason that I am begging each and every one of you to support this.

There are many people in a very dark place at the moment and some who could not find their way out of their dark place and as a result are no longer with us.

‘Darkness Into Light’ is in its eighth year nationally and this year there will be over 100 venues taking part all over the country.

Pieta House does incredible work in helping to prevent suicide and self-harm. They provide a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm. They offer one to one support for people who may be suffering from suicidal issues or self harm and a referral from a doctor or a psychiatric report is not required.

We can all help in some small way in breaking the cycle of suicide by taking part. It is very easy to talk about how dreadful it is that the figures for suicide and self-harm are on the rise but we now have the opportunity to get off our backsides and make a difference.

There is no one who hasn’t been affected by suicide be it a friend or relative who could not find the light through the darkness and it is for each and everyone of them that I am asking you to register today. There is a Facebook page with all the details www.Facebook.com/DilTralee

Volunteers are doing their very best to get the word out there and to get as many participants as possible involved. We can all help make the job a little easier by spreading the word.
