A CAMPAIGN to raise funds for a special project in Fenit has seen over 100 donations to a gofundme page.

The local community is hoping to raise enough funds to see the construction of a Fenit Viewing Platform with commanding views of Tralee Bay.

This will highlight the maritime landscape and ecology of the bay including the maritime history, flora and fauna and the geographical importance of the area. it will be wheelchair accessible, with information provided in Braille.

They are seeking to raise €50,000 to be used to help cover most of the ground works, construction works, and design and production of a 2.6 metre bronze map, to be located on the waste land at the western side of Fenit pier below the statue of St. Brendan the Navigator. (See video below)

They have a plan for the implementation of this project which already has a concept design including planning permission from Kerry County Council, architect’s plans, creative design and supporting infrastructure.

With successful fundraising and grant applications, it’s hoped work will commence in April 2024 with an official opening in August this year. The gofundme page has already raised over €4,200 but more help is needed. To access the fundraising page, click here.
