MOYDERWELL Primary School has teamed up with Tralee Harriers to launch Fit4Class at the school.

Tralee Harriers has successfully run a club/school links project for a number of years with support from Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership and Kerry County Council. This year the club is promoting the Athletics Ireland’s Fit4Class programme in Tralee primary schools.

Fit4Class is a new 10 week athletics programme that introduces primary school children from junior infants to fourth class to athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment.

It focuses on the use of games to develop fitness whilst enhancing agility, coordination and balance. After completing the Fit4Class programme, students are rewarded with coloured wristbands.

Tralee Harriers will work with Transition year students from Tralee schools to roll out the programme in the schools. Following an introductory workshop the Transition year students will assist the class teachers in running the programme over 10 weeks.  Moyderwell Primary school is the first Tralee primary school to launch the programme.

“This is a very exiting programme that further enhances the wonderful links that Tralee Harriers Athletic club has forged with both primary and secondary schools,” said  Linda O Reilly, Tralee Harriers.

“I would encourage all primary schools to sign up for Fit4Class. Tralee Harriers are available to help roll out the programme in any school in the Tralee area. We have already trained 25 fantastic, enthusiastic Transition year students from Mercy Mounthawk, who are ready to go into the primary schools to help with Fit4Class,” said Linda.
