WELL ‘Operation Transformation may be returning tonight on RTE ONE, but a local GAA group got a head start on them last night with their own initiative.

St Pat’s in Blennerville, in conjunction with Operation Transformation & Get Ireland Walking, are hosting a series of community walks under lights over the next eight Tuesday evenings, starting from yesterday when a good number of people showed up for the inaugural walk.

Chairman of St Pats GAA Club, Jimmy Mulligan, said it’s a great way of getting people together socially for some exercise.

“We realise that the club is more than just about football and it’s about the community and this is a great way of getting people out in January, to get active and have a bit of fun.  They can also see the facilities we have in the club, the astroturf pitch and more,” said Jimmy.

Taking place at 6.30pm from the club grounds, it is a free event and is open to everyone in the wider community of all abilities and ages. It doesn’t matter if you missed the first one, you can attend the walks at any stage over the course of the eight week programme.

The walk is just under 5km; beginning at the club grounds, heading towards Tralee, over the bridge and down the canal walkway to the Marina apartments and back.

Registration takes place in the dressing rooms from 6:10pm and all participants must wear high visibility jackets or clothing. Scroll down for photos…
