Antrim Rose — Mollie O’Brien

My name is Mollie O’Brien, I am 22 years old and hail from Ballymena in Co. Antrim. I am privileged to be representing my County as the 2023 Antrim Rose. I am currently in my fourth year studying Dentistry at Queen’s University in Belfast.

I love the challenge of working and learning about the modern methods of dentistry and training under professionals in each speciality. In my spare time, I enjoy playing Gaelic football for my local club All Saints and coaching children at Cúl Camp.

I am an Irish dancer and have danced competitively since the age of 4. I also love walks in the beautiful Glens of Antrim. I enjoy volunteering to support local charities like SVP to give back to my local community and Friends for Romania charity, which I visited in 2018.

I am an outgoing and fun-loving person and enjoy socialising and making new friends. In the future, I would love to travel and to experience various cultures throughout the world. I look forward to the Rose of Tralee International Festival to have the experience of a lifetime and meet the other Roses who are all inspiring young women.

Arizona Rose — Ashley Jackson

Hi there! I am Ashley Jackson, a 25 year old resident of sunny Arizona. I am privileged to serve as the 2023 Arizona Rose, representing the incredible Irish community from the desert. My day job keeps me busy on Arizona State University’s Tempe campus as a Digital Communications Coordinator for the Graduate College.

These days, I am pursuing two master’s degrees – one in Psychology at Grand Canyon University and the other in Library and Information Science at the University of Arizona. Once I graduate in December, I plan to apply for a PhD program at Arizona State University.

My focus will be on Develo mental Psychology, specifically Early Childhood Cognitive Development. I was born in Dublin, Ireland, and spent my first few years in Leixlip, Kildare, where my mum and her siblings grew up.

We emigrated to the United States for my mum’s job at Intel and were lucky enough to find our second Irish family in Phoenix. I love staying active and exploring new things – from going on adventures and hiking to catching up with friends at a cozy cafe. I’m excited to meet all my fellow Rose sisters in Tralee and make unforgettable memories.

Boston & New England Rose — Fiona Weir

Hello! My name is Fiona Weir and I am honoured to be representing Boston and New England for the 2023 Rose of Tralee International Festival.

I am 23 years old and live in Boston, Massachusetts. After receiving my Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, I started as a full-time medical/surgical nurse at a public hospital in Boston. The most rewarding part of my job is when I can sit and talk with patients and listen to their stories because it helps build a bond with them and humanises the job.

Knowing I make the patient’s hospital stay more comfortable is my favourite part about my position. I also can be found walking my dogs, running, playing soccer, traveling, and having tea with my granny while listening to the Irish Hour.

My grandparents immigrated to Boston over 60 years ago. My Granny comes from Co. Leitrim and my grandfather from Co. Mayo. My great-grandparents come from Co. Galway and Co. Clare.

I am privileged to have visited Ireland many times to visit family and friends and Ireland will always feel like a second home to me.

.

Carlow Rose — Caoimhe Deering

Hello! My name is Caoimhe Deering, I am 22 years old and from the fabulous County Carlow. I am so delighted and honoured to be representing my county as the 2023 Carlow Rose. I work as a secondary school Geography and English teacher and love my job. When I am not working I am hugely involved in the GAA within my community.

This year I am manager and coach to the u12 girls’ team in Rathvilly, I play for the ladies’ team, am PRO for the club and a member of the committee. Like my Dad, I am also a qualified GAA referee and completed my course in 2020 in Croke Park.

I have a huge passion for encouraging girls to stay active, especially in their teenage years, and to continue playing sports. I have a great love for animals and our house is like a zoo! I am enthusiastic, chatty, and outgoing and love visiting new places around the world but especially here in Ireland.

I’m so looking forward to my journey to Tralee, both for myself and all my family and friends and to create priceless memories, and meet other like-minded, powerful, and driven women.

.

Chicago Rose — Kelley Leyden

My name is Kelley Leyden, 28, and I am honored to represent Chicago and its Irish community at the 2023 Rose of Tralee International Festival.

I am a full-time Chicago Police Officer and a part-time Radiologic Technologist, so my work can be challenging, however, I find it very rewarding. I volunteer for Misericordia, Knights of Columbus and Chicago’s Polar Plunge. I am a member of The Young Irish Fellowship Club, Chicago’s Gaelic Park and The Emerald Society.

In 2022, I was awarded the Superintendent’s Award of Tactical Excellence, and my professional goal is to one day be a detective. Also, in 2022, I was Queen for Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. My Mother is from Cobh, Co. Cork and my Paternal Grandparents hail from Kerry and Clare.

So, I grew up surrounded by proud Irish people who instilled in me a strong level of pride in my Irish heritage. My hobbies include swimming, kayaking, pilates and travel, and I have an adventurous side which includes skydiving and parasailing. Whitewater rafting and biplane aerobatics may be next! I am looking forward to meeting my fellow Roses and making wonderful memories and new friendships in Tralee.

.

Clare Rose — Aisling O’Connor

Hey there! My name is Aisling O’Connor. I am 25 years old and come from the beautiful Feakle in County Clare. I hold my local community and it’s wonderful people very close to my heart.

Therefore, I am beyond humbled to be a representative for my county, parish and family as the Clare Rose at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival.

For the past three years, I have worked as a primary school teacher in Crumlin, Co. Dublin. While it really has been a truly fantastic couple of years, I bid (a bittersweet) farewell to the capital this June and am looking forward to starting a new adventure working back home!

Being the eldest of six children (and the only girl!), my role as a sister has always been important to me. Growing up surrounded by my brothers has taught me resilience, kindness and a whole lot of patience! In my free time, I love walking, going to the gym and occasionally pulling out the dancing shoes to relive my childhood passion!

.

Cork Rose — Kate Shaughnessy

Hello from the Rebel County Cork. My name is Kate and I am delighted to be representing Cork in this year’s Rose Of Tralee International Festival.

I am 25 years old and from Ballincollig. I graduated from University College Cork in 2020 with a Bachelor of Social Science Degree and I now work as the Care Coordinator in the lovely Norwood Grange Nursing Home in Ballinora.

While my job has lots of variety, my main role is making sure that all the residents in Norwood Grange feel at home. I have worked in elderly care for the last 6 years and absolutely adore what I do, and feel it a great privilege to be part of what can be a very hard, yet very special time, for both the residents and their families.

I was honoured to receive a Mowlam Healthcare Recognition Award in 2021 for my work keeping residents and their families engaged during the COVID19 pandemic.

My parents are both from Tralee originally, so the Festival has always been a part of my life growing up and it has been a dream of mine to represent Cork. I am so looking forward to meeting you all in August.

Down Rose — Nadine Downey

Hi there! My name is Nadine, I’m 23 years old and I am so proud to be representing my county as the 2023 Down Rose. I have recently graduated with a degree in Drama and English and am hoping to pursue a career in post-primary education.

As a member of the Mayobridge Accordion Band, I have been travelling to Tralee for over a decade leading the Roses in the parades and this year I have the pleasure of attending as a Rose myself.

I have been fortunate enough to have grown up in the countryside and in a musical family, therefore I also play the guitar and drum-kit! I enjoy reading, horse-riding with my horse Mocha, spending time with my dogs and musical theatre, and am currently working in a restaurant and as a singer.

I absolutely love singing and playing my guitar. I’m so excited for the Rose of Tralee International Festival and to meet the other Roses, and make everlasting memories during what I’m sure will be the best week of my life!

.

Dublin Rose — Bethany Cushing

My name is Bethany and I’m 27 years old, hailing originally from Ballyhea, Co. Cork but am a Rose of many roots; growing up in the Falkland Islands, London, and Cork before finally settling in Dublin.

I am privileged to be representing my now home county of Dublin. I moved to Dublin in 2013 to pursue my studies at Trinity College Dublin.

Since graduating, I have worked as a Radiation Therapist for St Luke’s Radiation Oncology Network and also in cancer research. In 2020 I started in the Royal College of Surgeons where I am about to commence my fourth year as a medical student.

My career goal is to work in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and I have a keen interest in women’s health.

In my spare time I enjoy swimming in Bull Island, cooking, playing the violin, practising TaeKwonDo, and I am currently training for the Dublin Marathon in October while fundraising for Beaumont Hospital Foundation, a charity close to my heart.

I am so excited for what’s to come as the Dublin Rose in Tralee this summer and to meet 31 other inspirational and like-minded women.

.

Germany Rose — Megan Wolf

Guten Tag! My name is Megan, I am 27 years old, currently living in Germany. Representing the Irish diaspora in Germany as the 2023 Germany Rose is a great privilege which I deeply appreciate.

I am on the verge of completing my Political Science graduate programme, focusing on Europe. Post-graduation, I will continue my work at a policy-related service company, engaging citizens and stakeholders at the municipal and state level. It is interesting work because it‘s diverse and I love passing on proposals people work on together!

My mother is from Coachford, Co. Cork. She emigrated to Germany in 1992 after meeting my father in Crete.

We try to spend a few weeks every year with my Irish family. I have vivid memories of lively family gatherings, prancing around farm animals and nature. Others describe me as calm, sincere and considerate.

I enjoy being active outdoors, singing and having a good laugh. I belong to a housing association that promotes solidarity-based living as an alternative to profit-oriented housing. I’m excited to connect with amazing young women and embark on this unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Kerry Rose — Kelsey Lang McCarthy

Hi there! My name is Kelsey Lang McCarthy, I am 22 years old and live in the beautiful, picturesque town of Cahersiveen. I am thrilled and honoured to be representing my County (The Kingdom) as this year’s Kerry Rose.

I am currently a student going into my final year of studying Podiatric Medicine in the National University of Galway. It is a very broad and rewarding career as no day is the same as the last.

My goal for the future is to work as a paramedic in the ambulance service and continue to pursue podiatry in my own practice. Coming from a musical family, I love singing and playing the guitar.

I have been incredibly blessed in the past, having had the opportunities to sing at festivals, events and for President Michael D Higgins on numerous occasions. As well as my passion for music, I love to travel, meet new people, embrace new cultures and opportunities.

My dream is to travel the world and make as many memories as I can which will undoubtedly include the unforgettable experiences and friendships I will make on my Rose of Tralee journey.

.

Laois Rose — Sinead Dowd

Hi! My name is Sinead Dowd, I am 25 years old, living in Cullohill, Co. Laois. I was born and raised in New York; however, I made the solo move to Ireland at the age of 16 (hence the strange accent!).

With both my parents being Irish, and the abundance of cousins I have here, I always had a strong connection to Ireland, and couldn’t wait to make a life for myself here.

I am an English and Geography Secondary School teacher. While I love guiding young people to reach their fullest potential, I also love the everyday interactions with my students, and seeing their confidence develop.

I have recently taken up Gaelic football with Shanahoe LGFA. I’m still struggling with the skills, but I’m enjoying the social side of it! If I was to describe myself in one word it would be optimistic.

Life is a beautiful thing, but it can also be challenging, and I try to look for a bright side in most situations. I am honoured and privileged to be representing my county in the Rose of Tralee International Festival. I am looking forward to making amazing memories throughout the festivities. Up Laois!!

.

Limerick Rose — Molli-Ann O’Halloran

Hiya, my name is Molli-Ann, I am 19 years old, and I’m from Limerick City. As a proud representative of my beloved Treaty City, I’m delighted to represent my county.

I work in Bunratty Castle as an Irish traditional singer. It’s great to have a laugh and chat with people from all walks of life. Working in a castle has its perks, I get to dress as a princess and sing, happy days!

I’m currently studying Music and soon hope to study Social Studies to broaden my communication skills with children and young adults, and want to incorporate music as a method of communication. I’m a young woman living with Autism.

I’m a passionate advocate for individuals with Autism also. I love to speak and raise awareness to create positive change. I like to bake, try new things and push myself out of my comfort zone. Music is my passion.

I enjoy busking with Novas to help spread some joy at Christmas time through song. I am driven and compassionate. A motto I live by is “just keep swimming”. I’m excited to experience Tralee and make the most of this amazing opportunity!

.

London Rose — Amy Gillen

My name is Amy, and I am 27 years old. I am from Donegal but have been living in the vibrant heart of London for the last number of years. I am privileged to represent the Irish community in London as the 2023 London Rose.

Mayo Rose — Kate Heneghan

Dia dhaoibh go léir ó Chontae Mhaigh Eo! My name is Kate, and I am a 27 year old harpist, violinist and pianist from Castlebar.

I am very honoured to represent my beloved County Mayo in Tralee this year. Since graduating with a Masters in Music Composition from Ulster University, I have worked as a Classical Content Specialist for global music streaming platforms.

At the age of 18 I was very fortunate to be able to combine my Undergraduate Degree in Music while touring the world as a musician. I am also very passionate about sharing my love of music with others: I teach music in both genres of Irish traditional and classical music.

My family and I formed ‘Westport Scoil Cheoil’ a summer school dedicated to teaching Irish music and promoting Irish culture. As well as teaching music, I regularly host music radio programmes and volunteer as a musician and MC at charity concerts.

Sport is another great passion of mine, and of course I am a loyal Mayo supporter! I am a qualified personal trainer and hiking is one of my favourite pastimes.
