THE club may have had a disappointing Sunday after the footballers were knocked out of the senior championship, but Austin Stacks had a trophy to celebrate at the weekend.
The hurlers retained their Junior Hurling Co. Championship title on a scoreline of 4-8 to 3-5 over Duagh at the John Mitchels Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Duagh started well, but by the tenth minute Stacks, playing with a strong wind, got a goal to go ahead by 1-3 to 1-1 and they never relinquished the lead. Six goals were scored in the first half will Colm Ó Giollagáin netting three and Andrew Foley the other for Stacks, leaving the scores 4-6 to 2-2 and a ten point lead for the Rockies.

Stacks only managed two pointed frees in the second half against that strong wind but it was enough, as the defence broke down Duagh’s attacks, to leave them champions again.
Paul Daly was awarded the Man of the Match Award. So Stacks take the silverware and can look forward to two more finals in as many weeks. The South Kerry SH Championship Final, against Kilgarvan, is fixed for next Saturday, in Fitzgerald Stadium at 2pm and the following Saturday (October 15) sees them face Duagh again, in the SH Co. League (Div 3) Final on home ground in Connolly Park at 3pm.
