Presentation Secondary Tralee In SEAI Competition Regional Final

PRESENTATION Primary School in Tralee is one of five schools in Kerry to compete in the Regional Finals of the SEAI One Good Idea Competition.

Students from; Tahilla CNS/Scoil Eoin, St. Michael’s N.S., Presentation Brothers College, Presentation Secondary School Tralee, and Colaiste na Sceilge, in Kerry will compete in the SEAI One Good Idea Regional Final, which will take place on February 24 in Omniplex Cinema Cork.

Finalists have created a one-minute film and campaign to inspire people to save energy and reduce CO2 emissions. They will see their film on the big screen and present their campaign to a panel of judges.

This year, four regional finals will be held in Omniplex cinemas around the country. Regional winners from each event will then compete at the National Final in Dublin in on Thursday, 23 April.

The SEAI One Good Idea Competition encourages students, their families and communities to take individual and collective responsibility for tackling climate change. Students learn important skills in communication, film-making and creating change at a community level.

This year, over 180 campaigns were developed by young people all over Ireland. In the last decade, over one and a half million people in Ireland have been reached by the projects put together by 7,500 inspiring schoolchildren.

Some of the Good Ideas this year include:

• ‘Sustainable karaoke’, from Presentation Secondary School Tralee, are promoting sustainable travel

• ‘Lego Lifesavers’, from Tahilla CNS/Scoil Eoin, are calling on students to walk to school on Wednesdays.

• ‘Climate Change Kids’, also from Tahilla CNS/Scoil Eoin, are calling on everyone to break free from electricity on Fridays.

• ‘Seasonal Superheroes’, from St. Michael’s N.S.,want persuade their community to eat and shop for food in season

• ‘Verified Vegetarians’, from Presentation Brothers College, are encouraging people to eat less beef

• ‘William and the Boys’, from Colaiste na Sceilge, are reminding people to turn out the lights when you leave the classroom or when hallways are not in use
