This weekend sees the festive season kick off in earnest with the CH Christmas parade and the lights being switched on. But there’s other stuff on too…

Friday

1. A Christmas Cracker…

THERE’S a CD launch for a great organisation tonight in The Rose Hotel.

Pat Pierse and John Buggy, aka ‘The Crackers’, recorded ‘A Christmas Hug’ and all proceeds from sales go to the Inspired group on Friary Lane.

The lads wrote the song last year and decided to release it this Christmas for a bit of fun and to help out a local cause.

The CD will be launched between 6.30pm and 9pm tonight but it can also be bought from Inspired, Ballyseedy Garden Centre, Roger Harty Opticians in Boherbee and Tralee Chamber Alliance in Denny Street.

2. Table quiz…

A TABLE quiz will be held in the Na Gaeil GAA Club at 7.30pm as a fundraiser for a local man’s trip to Africa to help children rescued from sex trafficking.

Kerry’s Eye photographer Robert O’Mahony, who now lives in Cloghane in west Kerry, travelled with the Ray Of Sunshine Foundation in 2016 and helped with housing for affected children in Mombasa, Kenya.

He is going back to Africa early next year. A table of 3-4 is €30 and there are great prizes.

Saturday

3. A Christmas gift from the market…

If you’re in town for the parade, you should call to a fantastic Christmas market which takes place this and every Saturday in a premises in Courthouse Lane across from Polymath bookshop.

There’s arts, crafts, cakes and more and supporting the stallholders there helps keep the Tralee Socialstore open which in turn helps people in need.

You might pick up something very special as a great Christmas gift. The market is open from 10am to 5.30pm and is well worth a visit.

4. Tasty afternoon in Manor…

The first of three Food & Craft Fairs this festive season takes place this Saturday November 2 from 11am – 5pm at Manor West Hotel.

The food fair will host numerous local artisan food producers and craftspeople offering fantastic handmade products from the heart of Kerry.

Of course Santa and his friends are also there on Saturday and there will also be facepainting and balloon modelling to keep the younger visitors happy and occupied.

5. Parade fun…

THE CH Chemists Christmas parade promises to be a feast of fun, colour and a spectacle to get you all into the Christmas spirit again this year when it starts at 2pm.

Filled with characters from Paw Patrol, The Little Mermaid, Sponge Bob, Princess Sofia and much more, the streets of Tralee will be alive with all your children’s favourites during an event which really kicks off Christmas in town.

Guest of Honour at the parade will be Jennifer Byrne the 2017 Rose of Tralee and the cast of this year’s Panto (Cinderella) at Siamsa Tire will also be present.

The highlight of the parade will be the arrival of the man himself Santa Claus along with Mrs Claus and the Elves.
