MINISTER for Education Norma Foley TD received a warm welcome from the children at St John’s Parochial School at Ashe Street on Thursday to coincide with the school receiving some good news recently.

Minister Foley wished the school well after receiving DEIS status from September 2022. This status will allow the school offer free lunches to students as well as reducing the student teacher ratio, which should result in a new teacher being allocated to the school.

Minister Foley also said that she would support the school’s application for a 3rd classroom to be added as they look to incorporate extra staff.

“We are also currently working with Kerry County Council to improve access to our school and to eradicate any potentially health and safety issues between road crossings and pedestrian and vehicle entrances,” said Principal Mike O’Toole.
