PEIL FAOI 6/8: Football for Under 6 and Under 8 boys reached a conclusion on Sunday last at Caherslee where the finals of the Bracker Regan, Kevin Barry and Jimmy Barry Memorial Cups were held. What football! Rogha agus togha na peile!

David Barry presented the Kevin Barry Memorial Cup for Under 8 football to winning team captain, Ronan Carroll. Brigid O’Connor, Denis O’Regan and Mary O’Regan presented the Bracker Regan Cup to the victorious Under 8 football captain, Eoghan Costello.

David and Paddy Barry presented the Jimmy Barry Memorial Cup to Barry Laide, captaen na foirne Faoi 6. Lá dár saol a bhí ann! The future of the ‘Black’n’Amber’ looks brighter than ever! PEIL FAOI 10: The inaugural John Lynch Tournament for Under 10 Football was held at Connolly Park on Sunday. 4 clubs were involved: Kilmacud Crokes, Ballymacelligott, Churchill and Na Stacaigh féin. Each club fielded 3 teams.

The John Lynch Memorial Cup was won by Kilmacud Crokes and was presented to the winning captain, Matthew Blacker, by Phil Lynch (wife of the late John Lynch) and by Liam Lynch (our vice-chairman). Our own boys won the Shield. Well done, Rockmen! Though not reaching the top spots, Ballymac and Churchill performed admirably.

Austin Stacks CrestSCÓR NA nÓG: Scór na nÓg for the Greater Tralee Area will take place at Clubtheach na Stacach at 8pm on Thursday 22nd October. Best wishes to our singer, Ella Nic Gabhann.

PEIL FAOI 6/8: (i) Next Sunday will be the last Sunday of the season for Under 6/8s. We’ll recommence…indoors…in January, le cúnamh Dé. N.B: We’ll take the PHOTO for the 2016

CALENDAR at Sunday’s session…so, please, make sure that you are present agus i láthair! Your picture will help to sell the calendar! (ii) Thursday football has ended for ’15. Sos tuillte ag na tuismitheoirí dílse agus ag na meantóirí díograiseacha!

PEIL FAOI 10: Two days of football coming up! (i) Next weekend sees the completion of a hectic Under 10 season with a Mini-blitz involving Churchill, Ballymac, Kilmacud Crokes and ourselves on SUNDAY. (ii) We’ll play Kilmacud in a round of challenge games on SATURDAY. Early to bed all this week, lads…energy needed for the weekend! (No Thursday football).

PEIL FAOI 11: We’ll make our annual visit to Na Piarsaigh, Cork, in the coming weeks for the annual Under 11 Dee O’Leary Tournament. We look forward to taking on The Rebels!

PEIL FAOI 12: We finished up the Under 12 season with The Charlie Healy Cup on Sunday last. We saw lovely football being played! Thanks to the Healy family for putting up this Cup in Charlie’s honour. Well done, all! Ar dheis Dé go raibh anam Charlie.

PEIL FAOI 13: Football action continues for the Under 13 boys after a hotly contested Town Championship semi-final in Ballymac.

That was a game that had just about everything, including a goat that was determined to play full-forward for the hosts….agus bhí an poc ar buile!

Missing a few starters, we struggled again’ the power of the Ballymac team and went 2-1 to 0-0 down before a few changes steadied the ship. A thunderbolt into the net and that was followed by a long range point by Mervyn Shalemba camled the nerves. Cian Purcell then pointed before firing his own rocket to the net.

Mervyn goaled again and that left us two points up ag am an tsosa. Our backs had now taken the measure of their makers and we restricted the hosts to four points in the second half.

Greg Scanlon goaled, having received a lovely pass from James Charles. Cian, Jordan Kissane and Conor Horan pointed and that left our final score at 4-6 and Ballymac’s total at 3-5.

Bua ceithre chúilín! The team was ably captained by Daniel Breen. We now await the winners of The Blues v Na Gaeil semi-final. A date for the final has still to be set. Training: Tuesdays…5.30pm to 6.30pm…for those who wish to make the panel. Sea, is féidir linn!

PEIL FAOI 13/14: Our Under 14s finished off a memorable and historic year with wins v Churchill in the Town League play-off and v Na Gaeil in the Town League final. In the play-off, we made amends for an earlier defeat with an emphatic win over Churchill.

Our forwards were on fire, our midfield dominated, the backs gave little away and our D-man in goals got a hand or two to everything.

At halftime we led…3-10 to 1-2…and the fulltime score was 3-17 to 3-4. The full squad got a run out. Craig Ó Tíocháin captained the side and set the tone with some tough tackling and a well taken goal! The Town Final, v our Killeen neighbours, was played in summer sunshine i bPáirc Chathair Sailí. This was the fifth meeting of the sides this year.

The ‘Black’n’Amber’ brigade was captained by Daniel O’Rourke who led by example. We took the game to Na Gaeil from the whistle.

Tosach maith, leath na hoibre! We managed to hold the opposition scoreless from the second minute to the twenty second, during which time we had scored a goal (from an Eoghan Carroll volley) and 5 points (Conor Myers x5). A Seán Quilter ’45 and another point by Captain Dan had us well in control before a late goal and point from Na Gaeil closed the gap.

Two more points from the boot of Conor Myers had us in front at the short whistle…1-10 to 1-3. Two goals in ten minutes, one each from Adam Curran and Seán Quilter, finished the game as a contest.

Na Gaeil got no change from our six backs with Pádraic Linnane, Luke Chester, Daithí de Búrca, Danny Draghici, Craig Ó Tíocháin and Adam Curran playing superbly. Seán Quilter got another 1-1, Jordan Barry got in on the action with 1-1 and Eoghan Carroll added a point for our final score of a fantastic season.

Daniel O’Rourke had the honour of accepting the Cup and gave a fine speech which has now gone viral, thanks to proud Dad, Tim. Scór deireanach:- AdeS: 5-13; Na Gaeil; 1-6. Sin clabhsúr deas le séasúr ’15!

A huge ‘bualadh bos’ to this group of players who not alone won the National Féile Division 1 title but also the County League Division 2, the John Egan Division 1, Féile Chiarraí, Central League Division 1 and the Town League Division 1, as well as being the County League Division 10 runners-up. Mighty!

It’ll be a long night ag Ócaid Bhronnta na mBonn in November! Enjoy the few weeks off, lads…pre-season work won’t be far away.

PEIL FAOI 15: Tralee Town League fixtures: (i) Semi-final 1: St Pats or K-O’R v Na Gaeil on Sunday 25th October at 12.00. (ii) Semi-final 2: JM v AdeS on Sunday 25th October at 12.00. (iv) Winners of semi-finals will play in Cup final. (v) Losers of semi-final will play in Shield final.

PEIL FAOI 16: (i) The U16 Division 3 final – Churchill v Austin Stack Club B- will be played in Ballymac at 12.30pm on Sunday 25th October

(ii) The Town League semi-final, between The Rock and Bóthar Buí, was played in Camp, Ballyseedy. Scór:- Na Stacaigh: 5-9; Na Mistéalaigh: 6-5. Wow! Close!

A last minute goal, from a 14 yard free by Donagh Mac Iomhargáin, secured a place in Town League final for our Under 16s.

Our ‘final’ opposition will be Cnoc na hEaglaise…data, am agus ionad le socrú. Having started stronger than a good John Mitchel Club team and having built up a substantial lead, we left our opposition back into the game. Going in at half time with a margin of 0-4, we felt that we were in a comfortable position.

Ní mar a shítear a bhítear! However, in the second half JMs raised their performance and, with minutes to go, it looked as if we had come up short. We found ourselves 0-3 down and in umar na haimiléise! But the Rockies are never beaten!

Níor chaill fear an mhisnigh riamh é! Here we have a team of stalwarts who work hard for each other. They battled on as they stood bravely on the burning deck! Leaders came forward as they found one last gear to secure two more scores.

They weren’t found wanting sa bhearna bhaoil! The most vital action came from a tactical decision by our mentor, Colm, and its execution with skill and determination by Donagh Mac Iomhargáin as he placed a ‘dead’ ball into the back of the net and secured a great win for this team.

An fhoireann chróga dhiongbháilte: David Oba, Evan Maher, Simon Draghici, Cian Talbot, Kieran Killeen, Conor Lowe, Shane Kelliher, David Fitzmaurice, Joseph O’Connor, Joe Looby, Donagh Mac Iomhargáin, Michael O’Gara, David Couchman, Gearóid Ó Síocháin, Garry Ó Clúmháin, Dean Ó Scanláin, James Quigley, Alan Dore, Oisín Liston, Jamie Mac Gearailt, Eoin Ó Loinsigh, Dean Ó Conaill. Good luck, boys, v Cnoc na hEaglaise in the final

OUR ASH MEN: Comhghairdeachas mór to our hurlers who won the Junior County Final. Éacht! If some of our senior footballers took up the camán (agus bheidís go maith ábalta chuige!), we could challenge for an Intermediate Title in ’16!

Many of an older (?) generation will remember Bro. (Tommy) Doohan who was chief organiser of school football and hurling leagues in the Cluain na Lobhar CBS. They might recall teams such as Na Fir Bholg, Na Tuatha Dé Danann, An Chraobh Rua, Na Fianna, Na Gearaltaigh, Éire Óg? (A good way to teach/learn history and language…and sportsmanship!) Bro. Doohan was responsible for The Kerryman write-ups on the competitions under the pseudonym of ‘Green Flag’! He later managed a Limerick City Under 13 hurling team that defeated Cork City on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-0!

PEIL FAOI 15: Some of our boys were in action with The Green in the Corn Uí Mhóráin (Under 15 Munster Colleges) competition v Coláiste Bhréanainn on Wednesday (30th). Tralee CBS, having led at half-time by 2 points (1-8 to 1-6), conceded 3-0 (trí pheaca mharfacha!) in the second half (2 penalties). Coláiste Bhréanainn were the stronger finishers. Faraor, níor éirigh le peileadóirí na Faiche! Coláiste Bhréanainn: 4-14; An Fhaiche: 1-10. Thus ended The Green dream! Unlucky Rockites: Jordan Barry, Conor Myers, Luke Chester, David Oba, Eoghan O’Carroll, Seán Quilter, Cian Purcell, Daniel O’Rourke.

PEIL FAOI 16: (i) Our Bs v Mistéalaigh Town League game was played on Monday 28th in Camp/Ballyseedy. Result: Mistéalaigh B: 0-9; Stacaigh B; 0-9. Comhscór! Well done, lads!

(iii) Our Bs were pipped when they played Churchill in Connolly Park on Friday evening last. Having started strongly, they found themselves struggling in the second quarter. Then in the second half, they found an extra gear and mounted a brave challenge but they were behind by a single point at the final whistle, (just like our seniors on Sunday!). Ochón Ó!

(iv) Their final game v Ardfert was played on Monday (5th). Result on web. (iv) Under 16 fixtures are in Juvenile Notes (club web) for Wednesday 26th August.

(i) The Under 14s, minus a few ‘big guns’, had a comfortable win v Churchill in Division 1 of the Central League and they had a home game on Monday (20th) v Na Gaeil in Round 3. The 14s were captained by Charlie Curran who opened his account for the As with a pointed free. Another scorer of note was Danny Draghici who advanced all the way from the fullback position to also score his first ever point at this level. Great stuff, boys!

(ii) The Under 13s suffered a 0-5 defeat in Cillín v Na Gaeil but not after a rousing second half comeback in which they just came up short, faraor agus ochón!! In the first 25 minutes we conceded 4-0 and were 0-12 down at halftime but a much improved second period had the Gaeil on the back foot!

However, one can’t give a team of that quality such a lead! Ceacht foghlamtha! Lesson learned! Ben Quilter made two top class saves in the game and James Fernane created mayhem in around the square and was unlucky when at least two goal bound shots were blocked and cleared by the Milesian backs and keeper. Both Under 12 stars, Joey Nagle and Armin Heinrick, played superbly and, not to be outdone, Jordan Kissane kicked two lovely points.

(iii) Next on the menu is the Town League with an away match v Churchill on Thursday 23rd.
