Action from the game.

Clanmaurice made the journey to Newcastle West on Sunday to defend their Munster Junior Club Camogie title against Crecora of Limerick.

The Limerick girls were first on the scoreboard with a 1st minute free. Laura Collins got Clanmaurice up and running a minute later. Dearbhla Egan pointed two frees for Crecora in the 4th and 6th minutes.

In the 9th minute Patrice Diggin converted a free and Sara Murphy followed up with two from play in the 11th and 12th minutes.

Jackie Horgan pointed from play in the 22nd minute and Aoife Behan from play and Dearbhla Egan from a free completed the first half scoring to leave the halftime score, Clanmaurice 0-6 Crecora 0-4.

.

Clanmaurice started the second half well with a free from Sara Murphy in the 31st minute, a point from play from the stick of Jackie Horgan in the 35th and another free from Sara Murphy in the 37th minute.

Action from the game.

Clanmaurice made their only substitution when Jessica Fitzell replaced Alanna Maunsell. In the 43rd minute Crecora launched a dangerous attack on the Clanmaurice goal but the defence stood firm to repel the attack and a 45′ was conceded, which Dearbhla Egan converted.

In the 44th minute a puckout from Aoife Fitzgerald was capitalised upon by the half-forward line and when the sliotar was delivered into the Crecora square, Laura Collins was on hand to find the net to leave the score at 1-9 to 0-5.

In the 45th minute it looked like Úna O’Connor would find the net for Crecora but a last minute tackle by Michelle Costello resulted in her shot going over the bar.

Another long puckout by Aoife Fitzgerald in the 47th minute saw Rachel McCarthy gain possession but a foul resulted and Sara Murphy converted the free.

In the 49th minute Úna O’Connor raised another white flag for Crecora and in the 52nd minute Sara Murphy converted another free for Clanmaurice.

However, in the 57th minute Crecora ensured that the spectators would be treated to an exciting finish when they scored a point and a goal in the space of a minute. Crecora pressed hard for an equalising goal but goalkeeper Aoife Fitzgerald came to the rescue when she grabbed a sliotar that was heading towards the top corner of her net.

So Clanmaurice held on to win back to back titles on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-8. Captain Orla Young accepted the Cup from Chairperson of Munster Camogie Marion Graham and Laura Collins received her ‘Player Of The Match Award’ from PRO of Munster Camogie Bríd McNamara.

PREVIEW: Clanmaurice Aims For All-Ireland Camogie Glory

.

Mike O’Halloran on Clanmaurice’s bid for All-Ireland glory this weekend…

Laura Collins.

Clanmaurice Camogie Club travel to St Brendan’s Park in Birr on Sunday at 2pm in their bid to become All Ireland Junior Camogie Champions,

They had a nail-biting win over Athleague in the semi-final and now face Kilmessan of Meath in the final.

Kilmessan look like they might be a very formidable outfit but judging by the confidence shown at their press evening a huge upset could be on the cards.

Continued below…

.

Kilmessan will present a huge challenge to the Clanmaurice women, they have scored a huge amount of goals on the road to the final beating the Cavan champions on a scoreline of 5.15 to 0.02.

Patrice Diggin.

Alana Maunsell in goal for Clanmaurice will have to be at her best to keep her net intact, she will be well assisted by her captain Treise Moran who operates in the full back line.

Kerry will look to their county and college star Patrice Diggin, who is an Asbourne Cup medal holder.

Expect Laura Collins from the great Collin’s hurling family in Kilmoyley to be influential also, all the women will have to be at their very best to hold Megan Thynne the Kilessan midfielder.

Operating at full forward for Kilmessan is Katie NiChoillean she bagged three goals in their semi.

Clanmaurice will have to keep the frees to a minimum as Kilmessan’s Ailin Donnely is pretty handy from placed balls. Expect the Clanmaurice women to return with the cup.

Tralee Parnells Club News 16/06/14

traleeparnells 2Camogie:
Tralee Parnells were narrowly defeated by Causeway, 6-3 to 5-0, on Saturday the 7th in their final game of the first round of the U-12 Kerry County Camogie League. All players pulled together in a tenacious display of teamwork that resulted in goals for Hannah Sharkey (2), Eimer Ni Shuilleabhan (2) and Clodagh Begley. While Clodagh B’s “puc fada” kept much of the play in the opposition’s half, solid defenders like Katie O’Dwyer shut down many dangerous moves in the Parnells half. To witness in person the 200% improvement in this team, come along on Sunday, June 29th at 12 noon when all 4 Kerry camogie clubs meet again as a warm-up for the Kerry v. Carlow championship game; North Kerry venue TBD.

On Saturday, June 7th, Tralee Parnells U8/10 camogie players travelled to Causeway to participate in the first of 4 summer blitzes. The girls had no problem racking up scores with Lana O’Connell’s superb goalkeeping skills keeping opposition scores at a minimum. Welcome back to Ciara Casey and Ciara Palmer who weren’t long blowing the cobwebs off their hurleys and getting “stuck” in with Jessica O’Loughlin! It is a testament to the tireless efforts of the U6 and U8 coaching staffs that such young players demonstrate such proficiency with a hurley. Tralee Parnells will be hosting the next blitz on Saturday, July 12th at 10:30 a.m. Venue TBD.

Generous Donor:
Thanks a million to the Tralee business(who wish to remain anonymous) that paid for 40 hurleys used by Parnells coaches in the local primary schools.
