HERE’S a puzzler.

The people at Baile Mhuire are still wondering who returned a large sign which was stolen the weekend before last, but suddenly reappeared three days later.

Two six foot by four foot signs — which ask people to sign up to cycle the Ring of Kerry for the organisation— hang on the railings on both sides of the entrance to Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre in Balloonagh. Aidan Kelly, Development Officer at Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre, explains what happened.

“On Saturday night/Saturday morning of last week, one of the signs asking people to cycle the Ring of Kerry Centre was taken. We looked everywhere but couldn’t find it. We had to contact EF Signs to tell them what happened and order a replacement. In fairness they were very good and didn’t charge us for it.”

However, there was another twist to the story…

“Then the following Tuesday morning, our van driver Noel arrived in the morning to see the sign lying against the wall,” continued Aidan.

“I’d say what happened was a few boys were out having a few jars and took it home for a laugh. They must have woken up the following day and realised what they had done and were stuck with the sign which was of no use to them,” said Aidan.

The lads (or ladies) must have have to return it in the dead of night. So the theory, is the people who took it must live locally as passing motorists would surely have noticed a six by four foot sign being carried a long distance!

In the meantime Baile Mhuire are hoping that people sign up to cycle the Ring of Kerry in July to raise funds for the centre. You can register on the Ring of Kerry cycle’s website by clicking here or log onto the Baile Mhuire site to find out how you can help them.
