In it’s day the motto was “flick to kick” 7 million people played the game and it was huge. World Cup’s, National Championships the list goes on.

The game is Subbuteo Table Footbal and this year marks the 75th anniversary of it’s founding.

In the last 22 years the game saw a big drop in numbers but slowly it’s making a come back.
In the UK the club total is rising steadily by the day to over 30.

Here in Ireland it was just Donegal and Derry that had clubs up until 2 months ago, now we have thriving clubs that have been set up in Dublin and Kerry with big interest in other parts of the country.

For those who don’t know the game, it’s based on Association Football, played on a snooker table like surface pitch roughly 5ft x 3ft.

The players are 1 inch plastic replica figures of any team you choose with the ball being about 3/4 inch in size. Quite simply you flick the figure onto the ball and try to get the ball in the net.

Locally the club is called Tralee and Munster Subbuteo Club and we play in Mounthawk Park at the Kerry District League HQ. Our next meeting will be in September.

Nationally the Irish Subbuteo Championships are being held on 22 October in Walkinsinstown, Dublin, with one more in the Irish Open series due for Wexford in November.

On the International stage Ireland are represented in the forth coming World Cup in Rome.17-18 September.

Finally at the club we have all the accessories needed plus 2 full size tables. Everyone is welcome to come over and give it a try.
