TRALEE has retained its Gold Medal for the seventh year in a row, while Listowel was named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for the first time. Listowel also won Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town.

The awards ceremony is taking place this afternoon in Dublin.

The Gold Medal is the seventh in a row for Tralee and is testament to the amazing work being carried out by Tralee Tidy Towns, Team Bramble, Kerry County Council and other volunteers.

Tralee got 323 points, up nine from 314 last year so we’re climbing all the time. Well done to all who contributed to retaining gold.

Joe Moynihan of Tralee Tidy Towns said; “We’re going in the right direction. We went up three points last year and now nine this year. I want to thank all the volunteer groups and Kerry County Council for their great efforts to retain the gold again,” he said.

Listowel received 339 points and Killarney 334. The Cathaoirleach of the Listowel Municipal District, Cllr Aoife Thornton, has congratulated Listowel on being named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2018 and Ireland’s Tidiest Small Town.

“This is absolutely wonderful news for Listowel. So much effort has gone into achieving this result and immense credit is due to the dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly to keep Listowel looking its best. In particular, I want to warmly congratulate Julie Gleeson and her diligent committee who warmly deserve this wonderful honour.”
