Tralee Toastmaster Qualifies For National Finals

THE Toastmaster International Speech Contests Division Finals were held at St. Brendan’s Parochial Hall involving members from Clubs from all across Munster last Sunday.

Each Toastmaster Club holds its own individual contests and the qualifiers from these progress to Area, Division and the winners now go forward to the Annual Conference in Portlaoise in May 2024, where they will challenge themselves against colleagues from all around the UK and Ireland

The First Competition was Humorous Speech and the winner was Sonia Elston from Tralee Toastmaster Club with a speech titled “In Praise of the DA’s”.

The next competition was Table Topics (Impromptu Speaking) where each contestant was given two to three minutes on “What Three Questions do you wish you had the answer to?”. It was won by Patrick Hynes from Shannon Toastmasters Club.

A Keynote speech was given by Club Growth Director Mairead Dillion, who originally comes from Tralee,  Maura Meany from Shannon Club received a spontaneous standing ovation from all present on recently being named 2023 Toastmaster of the Year for the UK and Ireland.

The Competitions were facilitated by Division B Director James Finnegan, Contest Chair Derry Butler, Chief Judge Tom O’Keeffe and hosted by Tralee Toastmasters.

Tralee Toastmasters are having an Open Night on Monday, November 20 at 8pm at St Brendan’s Parochial Hall, Upper Rock Street, Tralee. All are welcome.
