THE INSPIRED group hit The Square on Friday with a ‘flash mob’ zombie-themed dance performance of ‘Thriller’ (Watch video below)
“The fact they have the confidence to come out and dance is such a success for the group,” said Yvonne O’Brien of Inspired.
The group through the tutorship of dance instructor, Tim Landers, performed the iconic 80’s dance routine from the Micheal Jackson ‘Thriller’ video to a crowd of 50 or so, who despite the smattering of rain thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
Inspired, cater for the needs of young adults living with intellectual disabilities. Developing employment, education and personal development skills are the main aims of the group.
The community-based project has been located in The Square since September 2014. The group strives to be active and visible participants in the community.
“Our whole ethos is we want them to have a voice just like anybody else and we are just facilitating them to do that” said Yvonne.
The group is now 23 strong and increasing all the time. Inspired are currently trying to find a ground floor space.
“While we want to be visible the building is not ideal for our needs because of stairs. We have located another building, but we really need help in kitting it out. It’s a blank space, we’re not funded by any agency, we are completely self funding,” she said.
