Ardfert NS Student Council helps Dan Murphy load the 200 Christmas shoeboxes donated by the children.

ARDFERT school children filled almost 200 shoeboxes with beautiful gifts for children in Africa and Eastern Europe as part of The Christmas Shoebox Appeal by Team Hope.

The shoeboxes will be distributed based on need alone and they bring joy and excitement to children living in very difficult situations.

For many children it will be the only Christmas gift they will receive.  Items in the box can include crayons, copies, colouring books etc. soap, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste etc. socks, hat, scarf, gloves etc. a cuddly toy, skipping rope, sweets, ball, doll etc.

The children choose a selection from the above list and then label their boxes for a boy or a girl and the suitable age group.

The boxes were collected by Dan Murphy and will be transported to their destination by truck in time for Christmas. The Ardfert Students’ Council under the guidance of teacher, Áine Daly co-ordinated the appeal in the school.

They encouraged and motivated the children and they were amazed at the response.  Some children bought in more than one box and Aisling Dwyer in third class brought in an unbelievable 10 boxes! The Christmas spirit of sharing and caring is alive and well in Ardfert School.
