NEARLY €10,000 was raised from the Bill Kirby Memorial Walk in aid of the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The walk, which is organised every year by Michael ‘Fox’ O’Connor, had to be cancelled last year due to COVID restrictions, but the tradition resumed on St Stephen’s Day and there was a great turnout at the Brogue Inn for the event.

The cheque for €9,590 was presented to Mary Shanahan of Kerry Hospice Foundation on Monday at the Brogue Inn.

The walk began as a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society back in 1999, but since 2005, over €250,000 has been raised from the walk for the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

“We’re thrilled with the amount raised. We didn’t know if people would turn up that morning because of COVID, so to raise nearly €10,000 is great,” said Michael ‘Fox’ O’Connor.

“I just want to thank everyone who donated, the sponsors and all who helped out,” he added.
