Minister Brendan Griffin.

KERRY Fine Gael TD, Brendan Griffin, says he will not stand in the next general election for family reasons.

Speaking to Jerry O’Sullivan on Radio Kerry’s ‘Kerry Today’ programme this morning, Deputy Griffin, who has been a TD since 2011, said he wants to spend more time with his wife and two sons.

“I have two young sons at home and I have missed an awful lot of their childhood and I want to be around for the remainder of their childhood,” said the 40 year old from Keel.

Deputy Griffin informed party members and local councillors yesterday of his intention not to run in the next election.

He thanked party members for their support and advice over the years and hoped they will understand the decision he has made. He said he will continue to work for the party in putting together a team to retain the party’s seat in the county.

Deputy Griffin said he has no plans yet for what he will do after the next election.
