A NEW tourist attraction has started in Tralee and it’s proving popular with more locals and groups than visitors to our town to date.

Craft Makers, the new Craft Centre on Ashe Street is running walking tours every Saturday about Tralee where participants take an absorbing step back into the social history of the town.

The tours conducted by Tralee’s previous Town Mayor Grace O’Donnell take in key milestones in the history of Tralee from early times but most especially the last 200 years of the town’s history including Victorian shop fronts and facades and key historical landmarks.

The tour leaves at 2.30pm every Saturday afternoon and costs €20 per adult. A sumptuous afternoon tea is included at Chopin’s Cafe across the road from Craft Makers, as well as a free gift from the centre.

Tralee offers a wealth of architectural and historical places to visit, all within the Town Centre according to Deirdre Enright, who oversees the Centre.

“We look forward to running our Walking Tours each week as the feedback is wonderful and children can go free on the tour. This is always helpful to families holidaying in the County,” she said.

The Craft Makers houses a craft shop and art gallery.  It also hosts two studios for practicing artists and designers as well as having a dedicated space where the public can enjoy craft and art making sessions each week.

Open all year round Monday to Saturday 10-6pm and Sundays 10 to 2 in August. Visit www.craftmakers.ie for more
