Kerry Community Organisations To Receive Nearly €330,000 In Funding

CLÁR funding of €328,882 has been announced for six essential community organisations and key first-responder groups in Kerry.

This tranche of funding will provided targeted support for community groups to purchase vehicles designed to transport people who have mobility issues or people being treated for cancer.

Community groups that perform roles such as transporting blood samples from hospitals and delivering medication will also be supported under the initiative.

Funding will also be provided to secure vehicles that will provide vital support to sea and cliff rescue services as well as sub-aqua search and rescue services in Kerry.

The six Kerry groups allocated funding are:

• Banna Community Rescue Boats Ireland will receive €100,000 for the purchase of a lifeboat.

• Order of Malta Kerry is approved funding of €65,000 to support their community-based ambulance transport system.

• Ballybunnion Sea and Cliff Rescue Service will receive €49,600 for the purchase of a Launching Vehicle.

• Castleisland Day Care is approved funding of  €39,273 for the purchase of a five-seater wheelchair accessible vehicle.

• Social Action Group Rathmore CLG will receive €35,499 for the purchase of a car converted for wheelchair accessibility and passengers.

• Cumann Tithiochta na Dromoda Teo will receive €39,510 for the purchase of a hybrid electric vehicle.

Welcoming the news, Minister for Education and Kerry Fianna Fáil TD Norma Foley said: “Community organisations, first responder groups and key voluntary cancer care organisations continuously provide vital services to some of Kerry’s most vulnerable people, enhancing the communities they serve and often on a voluntary basis. I would like to thank my Cabinet Colleague Minister Humphreys for confirming this funding of over €300,000 which is an endorsement of the excellent work carried out by these community groups and organisations on a daily basis throughout Kerry.”
