LAST year saw a big crowd take to the road in sunshine for the annual Bill Kirby Memorial Walk and organisers are hoping the weather gods will be just as kind this year.

The charity event on St Stephen’s Day, organised by Michael ‘Fox’ Connor, is a wonderful way for the community to get together after the excesses of Christmas Day and walk off that turkey and ham…before heading home to eat more turkey and ham!

As usual, everyone will gather from 11am in front of Kirby’s Brogue Inn on Rock Street where there’ll be a bit of music, before setting off on the walk at 11.30am.

The four mile walk will depart from the Brogue Inn, up Rock Street over to the Bracker Regan Road, down Caherslee than back to The Rock through Pembroke Street.

Festive attire is encouraged for the Christmas walk (or run). The walk has raised hundreds of thousands of euro for charity ever since it began as a fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society back in 1999. Since 2006, all money raised has gone to the Kerry Hospice.

After the walk, participants will get a chance to warm up after with hot drinks back in the Brogue Inn after a job well done.
