U20 Eirgrid Team    Congratulations to Diarmuid O’Connor & Stefan Okunbor who have been selected on the Eirgrid All Ireland U20 Football Championship top twenty players of this year’s competition. A great achievement indeed for these two young Na Gaeil and Kerry stars. Well done to you both.

Na Gaeil Ladies    We played Monagea from Limerick in the Munster Intermediate semi final in Craogh/ Kilfinny Pitch in Limerick on Sunday last. We started brightly scoring a few early free kicks from Meagan.

Na Gaeil Ladies Football Team that defeated Monagea of Limerick in the Munster Intermediate semi-final on Sunday

Jadyn and Meagan scored a point apiece before Monagea keeper made a super save to deflect a goal bound shot over the bar from Meagan after a great pass from Marie. Monagea replied back with two points before we went back up the field with points from Nora, Meabh and Meagan. The score at half time was 0.07 to 0.02.

With the swirling wind, it gave no team any advantage but Meabh got us off to a great start in the 2nd half with a point and two more pointed frees from Meagan after Ayesha and Megan were hauled down.

Monagea regrouped and scored three points on the bounce. Laura made a great save from a powerful shot but we held our nerves as the pressure was mounting. Our defence and midfield started to take control of the game.

Meabh calmly stroked another point over the bar followed quickly by another point from Nora. Monagea managed to score two more points before Meagan kicked a superb point from distance to score the last point of the game.

Final Score 0.13 to 0.07. Well done to all. The Munster Final is on this Saturday the 13th of October in Mallow with time to be confirmed.

Mothers & Others Blitz    We travelled to Dublin for the annual Mothers and Others Football Blitz in Portmarnock. Our 1st game was against Killunan from Westmeath. Ciara was making her debut in Portmarnock and played in goals for the 1st game and made three world class saves. Killunan scored a point but we managed a point from Yvonne and Mary. Eileen scored the goal to get us off to a great start.

.

Our 2nd game was against Bredagh from Down. This game was all about the defence as no team managed to get a score with Blaitnaid, Ciara, Helen and Siobhan outstanding in defence. Amy, Catherine and Heather could not get any space. Despite Deirdre and Sharon coming into the forwards to try and get a score, the game ended in a scoreless draw.

Our 3rd game was against a well fancied Sligo team who seemed to have a few ex-county players with them. St Farnan’s got the good start and despite everything that Heather tried in goals, she could not stop their goal but we got an equaliser through Catherine. St Farnan’s scored another point but from the resulting kickout, Yvonne found Caroline who put it over the bar to level the game again. With seconds left in the game, a great pass from Helen found Sharon in space and Sharon popped it over the bar to win the game.

Our 4th game was against St Eunan’s from Donegal. Our midfield triangle of Caroline, Eileen and Yvonne controlled the game inside there with Amy, Sharon and Heather working hard on the inside. Heather had a couple of chances to get a couple of points but the wind pulled both attempts wide. St Eunan’s managed to score two early points against the run of play but Helen, Deirdre, Siobhan, Blaithnaid  and Ciara shored up the defence again. Eileen had a great shot and pulled a point back. Sharon scored the equaliser before Caroline and Catherine combined to score the winning point.

We played our last game against Ballymun Kickams. It was Kerry v Dublin and everyone was up for it. It was played at a hectic pace with players putting their bodies on the line. Ciara made a super clearance with a little bit of basketball skills thrown in. We had Ballymun on the ropes but tired bodies (and late night before) were starting to kick in. Helen Cooper made a last ditch block to keep the game scoreless. With time running out the fresh legs of Mary Ross were brought on. Deirdre made a deep run from defence, played a one, two with Eileen and found Mary. Mary made a little dink, rounded her defender and made a beeline for goal. She left off a rasper of a shot that the keeper managed to tip over the bar for the only score and winning score of the game.

Well done to everyone on a great weekend and a huge thanks has to go to Janice, Siobhan and Caroline for organising the weekend and to our supporters Mary Sheehy and Melissa Hurley.
