RIP: Our sincere sympathy to Tim Lynch senior on the death of his sister-in-law Teresa Lynch (nee Stynes) last week. May she rest in peace.

Bingo: Na Gaeil Bingo tonight at 8pm sharp. Our Mini Accumulater Jackpot House of €390 was won last Monday so tonight the jackpot reverts to €200 in 40 calls. We also have a Raffle and Split the Bucket at half time. Bus available on (087) 2817577. Over 18s only. Hope to see you all there for an excellent night out.

Volunteers: The club are looking for people to help out at bingo on Monday nights. If you can spare 2 hours every 5 or 6 weeks then Niamh (087-9863667) would be delighted to have you on board.

Scór: The Scór na bPaistí and the Scór Sinsear county finals were both held in the Tintean Theatre in Ballybunion last Saturday. Our kids ballad group sang their hearts out & were unlucky not to be placed.

Aoibhinn & Caoimhe Ni Shuilleabháin, Ciara Ní Mhurchú & Eva Ní Luasaigh can be very proud of their faultless renditions of Trasna na dTonnta & The Little Skillet Pot. These girls are young, very talented & I have no doubt will have great success in Scór in the years ahead.

Our Nuachleas group – Harry Rooney, Daniel Fitzmaurice, Bláithín Casey, Jane Cantwell, Farren Ní Dhálaigh, Aoibhinn O’Mahony, Rachel O’Mahony & Lily Barrett gave a great account of themselves in the Mary Quirke penned ‘The Wake’ but were outside the prizes this time around.

We had 2 entries in Scór Sinsear – Helen Sugrue in the Aithriseoracht competition, Martin Grealish, Mike O Sullivan, Liam Óg Kingston, Mary Ross, Noelle Kingston, Mary Reen & Helen Sugrue in the Nuachleas.

We won both & also came away with the shield for overall best club. The Scór Sinsear group now go forward to the Munster semifinal which will be held in Pallasgreen on April the 6th. Scór na bPaistí is finished for this year.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out in any way over the last few months. Kateanne O Connor & Nora O’Sullivan were responsible for the lovely singers, and Kateanne also gathered a Grúpa Ceoil for the district finals.

Mary Lacey & Johnny Maunsell are always so helpful to us regarding rehearsals in the club hall – occasionally at awkward times! The Nuachleas couldn’t happen without Mary Quirke. I cannot stress how lucky we are to have her in the club.

Helen Sugrue gave freely of her time to mentor our young aithriseoracht competitors. And obviously I must also mention, and sincerely thank, all those wonderful kids who took part in Scór AND their parents – none of it would be possible without you.

Scór is very much a ’niche’ activity within Na Gaeil. Of course we’re first & foremost a football club, but Scór is the cultural arm of the GAA and is a really great thing to be involved in – especially for kids.

It gives them confidence & is good fun! If you’re reading this & think you might like your child to be involved, please contact Margaret at 086 0855008. Or better again, if you’re a parent with maybe something to offer to our small but enthusiastic Scór committee, please get in touch….

U7 Training: Well done to our U7’s group who were in great spirits yesterday morning. The group participated in fun games practicing their balance, agility and coordination. Skills development included high catch, solo and fist pass, punt kick and defending. The group finished with a game.

U11 Boys Training: The under 11s were busy in the MTU yesterday morning as they prepare for the upcoming leagues. The boys are making great progress and looking forward to the season ahead.

Senior Men: Last Saturday evening our Senior men opened their Credit Union County League Division 2 campaign, taking on Glenbeigh/Glencar in Caherslee. Glenbeigh/Glencar were quickly out of the blocks and notched the first point of the game.

A blustery cross-field wind ensured that the scoring would be challenging, and it played its part in Na Gaeil’s first score. Dara Devine’s effort at a point was held up by the wind but when it dropped Jamesie O’Conner was quickest to react, and he toe-poked the ball into the visitors net to give Na Gaeil the best possible start.

Glenbeigh/Glencar added 2 points to level the game before Dara Devine pointed a free after Jack Sheehan was fouled. Dara again, this time with a great effort from play, put us 2 ahead after 21 minutes.

A great fingertip save by John Kearney kept Glenbeigh/Glencar at bay and they failed to convert the resultant 45.

Moments later great work by our forwards resulted in a turnover and Dara Devine pointed from play again. The visitors added 2 quick-fire points from play to cut the deficit to a single point but on the stroke of half-time Dara Devine bagged his 4th point of the half to leave Na Gaeil ahead 1-4 to 0-5.

The opening few minutes of the second half saw the sides exchange points (frees) before Tomás Ó hAiniféin kicked a great score from 35m to extend our lead to 3 points with 18 minutes remaining.

The next 10 minutes were to prove crucial though as Glenbeigh/Glencar added 3 points while Na Gaeil’s efforts only registered 3 wides.

In injury time Dan Goggin judged the wind to perfection to kick an excellent point to put Na Gaeil ahead once more. However, play continued for another 4 more minutes and Glenbeigh/Glencar snatched an equaliser from a free with the last kick of the game.

Final score: Na Gaeil 1-7, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-10. Next Sunday in Round 2 our lads will be on the road as they take on Templenoe at 2pm.

Minor Co. League: Our u17 team had a very unsatisfactory senario yesterday when they travelled to Ballinskelligs for their County League game against St. Michaels Foilmore/Skellig Rangers only to find out that the pitch was unplayable. This Thursday (28th) the lads are due to play Milltown/Castlemaine in a back game in Milltown at 6pm.

Senior Ladies: Our senior ladies made a good start to the Credit Union Donal Curtin Cup yesterday with a 3-6 to 2-5 win away to Beaufort.
