Na GaeilNA GAEIL FUN DAY:  Will be held on Sunday 9th August  at 2.30pm. Lots of fun and games, mouth watering BBQ,Yummy Tent,Fuzzball music and lots more.

This event is one of the highlights of the  clubs  social calendar and always a lovely day for the whole family. The club would like to thank the parents who have volunteered their time to organise this event.

SYMPATHY: We extend sincere sympathies to the Barrett family on the death of their father Dick Barrett Racecourse Lawn. May he rest in peace.

NA GAEIL U16:Na Gaeil were at home to Scartaglin in round 3 ofthe County League. Na Gaeil were off to a flying start with points from Dara Devine and Niall O’Mahony goaled in the eight minute from a good passage of play by Diarmuid O’Connor. Na Gaeil went seven points ahead after twelve minutes before Scartaglin settled and tagged on three unanswered points causing some difficulty for their opponents.

A twenty two minute substitution saw Seamus Harty get into the thick of the action immediately firing the ball over the bar for a very important point to give his team a boost. Two more points from Dara Devine, (1f), and three from Scartaglin gave a half time score of Na Gaeil 1-07, Scartaglin 0-06.

Niall O’Mahony got his team off to a great start with a point in the opening minute. A good run by Diarmuid O’Connor was rewarded with a point in the second minute.

Scartaglin replied with a point but again an outstanding performance from man of the match, Dara Devine, sent the ball to the net in the seventeenth minute to put space between the sides.Scartaglin rallied and were awarded a penalty a minute later to narrow the margin to three points.

Na Gaeil responded well and further points from Diarmuid O’Connor, Dylan Burns and Dara Devine and good performances from defenders Rory Murphy and Ryan O’Neill sealed victory for the home team.

Final score Na Gaeil 2-14, Scartaglin 1-11.

NA GAEIL U 14:Na Gaeil played Castleisland Desmonds in the first round of the Central Regionleague last Monday evening in Kileen. The teams had already met in the County league earlier in the year so were expecting another close game.

Castleisland got off to a good start and opened a five point lead. However the Na Gaeil defenders soon got to grips with their opponents and got back into the game. Mathew Burke opened the scoring for the home side and a point from Tadgh Lynch reduced the deficit to three points.

Desmonds responded with another point, but Na Gaeil immediately replied with another score from Tadgh Lynch. The teams were level minutes later.

Mathew Burke floated a 45 into the edge of the square, which was caught by Tadgh Lynch who finished the move with a goal to leave the score 1-3 each.

Desmonds got the next score to regain the lead once more but Na Gaeil finished the half strongly and a goal from Jack O’Brien and a point from the hard working Darragh Reen meant that the home side lead 2-4 to 1-4 at the interval.

Na Gaeil got into their stride straight from the throw in in the second half and Tadgh Lynch scored his second goal of the game to extend their lead.

This was followed by points from Dale Healy and Jack Sheehan before Desmonds responded with their second goal of the game to leave five points between the sides.

However Na Gaeil responded well to the goal and began to dominate the game. Darragh Reen got his second point of the game and Seamus Harty playing his first completive game since February scored a great point directly from a 45.

Seamus was on the scoreboard again minutes later when his shot was deflected into the net by a Castleisland defender to leave Na Gaeil in control of the game.

Shane Daly set up Tadgh Horgan for Na Gaeil’s fifth goal before Darragh Reen & Seamus Harty followed up with another point and goal.

Credit to Castleisland who never gave up and they got the final two scores of the game to leave the final score Na Gaeil 6-9 Castleisland Desmonds 2-6.

This was a good start to the Central region campaign. The backs defended well and all six starting forwards scored. Our next game is away to Laune Rangers on Monday at 7pm.

NA GAEIL LADIES:We played away on Monday evening to Dr Crokes. As Kerry players are not allowed to play in this competition, our numbers were small. Rhian came into goals for her 1st game back after 2 years. Riona and Eimear were kept busy on the back line with Crokes running at us with direct runs down the centre. Crokes got off to the better start scoring 4 quick points.

Sarah Cunningham settled us down with a point followed on by a goal by Aine. Kate Anne scored a point but Crokes came back at us, scoring a goal from play followed by a penalty to which Rhian was unlucky not to save.

Sarah got us another 2 points before half time along with Crokes getting another point. We made a few changes at half time with Rhian coming into midfield with Meagan, Sinead going into goals, Nora coming in at the backs.

Crokes started brightly for the 2nd half scoring 2 quick points but then we took control with Rhian scoring a goal. Sarah Quigley and Muireann were starting to win their battles. Meagan and Rhian were winning midfield which enabled our forwards to push on. Jadyn and Aine were creating more space and chances enabling Sarah C to score 2-05 in the second half.

Kate Anne and Eimear were making runs out wide and putting the pressure on Crokes. Riona and Nora kept the back line tight for the last 15 mins, not allowing Crokes score any more so we were able to finish off the game strongly winning 4-10 to 2-07.

Team: Rhian O Sullivan, Muireann Moriarty, Eimear Nolan, Sarah Quigley, Riona Kennedy, Kate Anne O Connor, Meagan Sheehy, Jadyn Lucey, Sarah Cunningham, Sinead Prendergast, Nora O Connell, Aine Kelliher.

NA GAEIL U13:Sandra Keane Memorial Blitz. We played on Saturday morning in dry but breezy conditions at John Mitchels in the 2nd Year of the Sandra Keane Blitz.

We were grouped with Corca Dhuibhne, Beale/Ballyduff and Dr Crokes. Corca were too strong for us in the 1st game but we came back strong in the next 2 games and beat both teams well.

We got drawn with John Mitchels in the semi final which was going to be a very tight game. Our backs Sarah, Muire, Megan,Eimear, Clodagh,Dearbhla and Aine had to be very strong against a big Mitchels team but with our forwards Emma and Siena causing havoc and creating space for Mary,Ciara, Caragh,Ailbhe and Freya to get forward. Winnie was outstanding in goals again.

Our perservance paid off as we overcame Mitchels with scores from Mary and Caragh to earn a place in the final against Castleisland Desmonds. Desmonds won the John Egan tournament the week before so they were favourites to win this as we had a very young team with a lot of our older girls away on holidays.

Caragh opened up the scoring with a fine goal after a great pass from Muire. Sarah then found Mary with a great ball who kicked it from long range towards the goals with Siena getting a touch and squeezing it into the back of the net.

Ciara made a great run from the half back line and put a great point over the bar. Freya was defending the midfield allowing Mary to recieve a ball from Emma and putting it over the bar. Ailbhe won another ball and got to Muire, found Mary and got us another goal. Desmonds came back at us and scored 2 points before half time.

Half time score was 3-02 to 0-02. Desmonds came at us strong in the second half with Winnie having to make a couple of great saves. They got a couple of points early in the 2nd half but Eimear, Clodagh and Megan were defending stoutly with Dearbhla driving out with the ball setting up Caragh and Mary for another couple of points.

Desmonds got a late goal but we finished strongly with a scoreline of 3-04 to 1-04.All our players had to play to the best of their abilities in the final to overcome a strong Castleisland team to which they did and they should be very proud of themselves. Well done to Muire who got Player of the Final.

Thanks to the parents for supporting us and to the North Kerry Board and John Mitchels for hosting it

NA GAEIL U12:Our under 12 girls continued their fine run of form in hard fought victory in Castle Island on Wednesday last.

The home team started the stronger with their two county players dominant in midfield. However a goal from Emma Dewey following good support play from Eimer and Freya half way through the first half brought us back into the game.

We fell behind to a quick goal and point just after the restart but from then on our defence of Megan, Clodagh and Eimer held firm. Ailbhe and sarah pushed forward at every opportunity and our midfield won the individual battles.

We fell behind to a quick goal and point just after the restart but from then on our defence of Megan, Clodagh and Eimer held firm. Ailbhe and sarah pushed forward at every opportunity and our midfield won the individual battles.

The game remained on a knife edge until the final minute when Siena slipped her marker and although her effort was saved Kayleigh was at hand to smash the ball to the back of the net.

Overall a great effort and particular praise to our younger players Elizabeth Grace and Súin who are improving with every game.
