Na Gaeil Ladies team that defeated Rathmore in the Division 1 County League Final.

Na Gaeil Ladies    Na Gaeil Ladies v Rathmore, Div 1 Senior County League Final. For the 1st time in Na Gaeil Ladies history, we played in a County League Division 1 Final. The final was against a very experienced Rathmore team and was played in Scartaglen in dry conditions with a nice breeze playing downfield.

We started brightly with a well worked goal from Jadyn Lucey followed quickly by points from Megan O’ Connor and Meagan Sheehy as we had the wind and the hill for the 1st half. Rathmore scored a point before we got another point from Meabh. Rathmore replied again with a point before Clodagh nearly chipped the keeper for a goal but went over the bar for a point.

We were really squeezing up on Rathmore kickouts and were unlucky not to get a couple of goals out of it. Meagan and Meabh scored another point apiece after some great work from Marie and Mary.

Rathmore scored another two points before a point from Nora and a goal from Ayesha on the stroke of half time to leave us with a scoreline 2.07 to 0.04.

Rathmore had the wind and the hill for the 2nd half and it was going to very tough for us to try and keep our lead. Rathmore came out of the blocks flying scoring 1.04 within the first 6 minutes but we settled with Susan, Kate Anne and Sarah Barrett taking control of their full forward line.

Laura made a world class save in the 1st half and her kickouts into the wind for the 2nd half were outstanding.

Eilis and Brid were everywhere, winning tackles, setting up attacks and Deirdre through the centre breaking out with ball, stopping the Rathmore players coming through the centre. Mary dropped in alongside Deirdre to stem Rathmore’s attacks and Meabh sat in beside Nora in midfield.

A point from Megan O’Connor got us back on track before Meagan Sheehy made a great run with the ball and found the back of the net. Erika came on and combined with Jadyn to help Ayesha score another goal to help us settle.

Muireann came on with fresh legs into defence with Freya to help shore up the backline. Rathmore picked off a few more points but could not find their way past our defence. Carla came into the defence with Mags coming into the full forward line as we held out for a historic victory playing in our first ever Div 1 County League Final and winning on a scoreline of 4.08 to 1.13.

The game was played in great spirit by both sides in what was a very exciting and competitive game. Captain Susan Fernane made a great speech after collecting the cup from County Secretary Donal Rahilly.

It was a superb team effort from all the girls and credit is due to them for all the hard work that they have put into it.

We now have a Munster Quarter Final on Sunday the 30th October against Stradbally from Waterford with venue and time to be confirmed. We would also like to thank all our supporters who came out on the day and our two mascots Karen and Eilis O’Brien.

A special mention to Caragh O’Neill who had played so well all year and helped get us to where we are now but is unfortunately out injured at the moment.

Na Gaeil U11 team that played in the Hughie Fitzmaurice Memorial Tournament in Moyvane last weekend.

We got off to a great start by beating Abbeyfeale in our first game. Beale were our opponents in the second game but they proved a little too strong for us. Next up we played Moyvane but despite our best efforts again we came up just short. Our final game was against Kilrush. Our lads came from behind in the 2nd half to salvage a well deserved draw. Moyvane won out the competition so our lads can be very proud of their efforts over the course of the day.
