Scór Na nÓg Finals    The All Ireland Final at The TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on Saturday last brought our Scór Na nÓg 2019 journey to an end and it was a proud occasion for all who were part of it.

Our Léiriú group performed brilliantly to a packed auditorium of 1,400 people and against stiff opposition from Leinster, Ulster and Connacht they gave the performance of their young lives.

Even though they didn’t capture that elusive All Ireland Title, they won the admiration and respect of all who were part of their journey and more important put Na Gaeil well and truly once again on the Scór map.

A wonderful weekend full of memories to cherish was had by Rory Reen, Joshua Roche, Dearbhla & Gráinne Quirke, Áine & Aoife O’Sullivan and Isabelle & Emily Crowe who truly did us all proud.

Also mentors Mary and Margaret who are the heart and soul of Scór, the families and supporters who travelled, and even though the result didn’t go our way, it didn’t dampen the pride it bestowed on Na Gaeil on this wonderful occasion.

It was only fitting that a wonderful reception awaited everyone on arrival home to the club which just shows how much this group of young people are appreciated for all their efforts and for representing Na Gaeil with such pride.

Seniors    The seniors played Mitchels on Friday night in the Town League and won on a score line of 4-12 to 1-13. They play Ardfert in the St. Brendan’s League in Mitchels this Friday night February 22nd at 9pm.

U14    Na Gaeil played Kerins O’ Rahilly’s at Strand Road on Sunday in the first round of the Town League Division 2. The team was captained by Seamus O’ Neill and we played with a strong breeze in the first half. In spite of the boys’ best efforts we were defeated by our town rivals. The boys played with great heart and we will improve as the season progresses. The team was Paul Burke, Fionn Heaslip, Seamus O’ Neill, Dara Cunningham, Batty Coffey, Ruairi Ó hAiniféin, Shane Kelly, Sean Barrett, Samuel Barquero, Jack Costello, Sean Morris, Cian Sheehan, Dylan McEneaney, Tomás Walsh, Conor Lucey, Dara Morris & Paddy McElligott.

We will have a training session during the week so keep an eye out for the text. Our next game will be away to Austin Stacks ‘B’ on Sunday February 24th at 11am. If any boy is interested in playing with Na Gaeil U14’s please contact 087 2903063 for information.

Free Digital Skills Course    Our Club are looking for members who are interested in participating in a Free Digital Skills Course. Topics covered include: surfing the net, email, social media, shopping and banking online. If interested drop into the club house and sign up. Course duration is 10 hours and will be run over a couple of evenings in the clubhouse. Dates and times will be scheduled depending on demand. This is a great opportunity for anybody wishing to brush up on their computer skills and it’s free. So please come along and sign up as soon as possible and we will get the course up and running.

Comedy Drama     If you enjoyed our comedy dramas over the past two years, then I strongly suggest that you mark the 27th, 28th of February and 2nd March your diary, because the latest offering from the pen of the supremely talented Mary Quirke is currently in rehearsal!

The title this year is One Ordination and a Donation, and it is shaping up to be just as hilarious as One Wedding and a Funeral and One Murder and a Christening! If you were fortunate enough to see the shenanigans last year, you will remember that a modern day miracle occurred at the end of the saga, with the transformation of Holy Water into brandy.

Mary continues the story from this point, and the ensuing chaos and hilarity will surely lift the clubhouse roof on all three of the performance nights! Tickets, priced at €20, are now available in the bar, and my advice is to purchase early, because if last year was anything to go by, demand will be massive!!

The performance on Saturday the 2nd March is completely sold out and the other two dates – Wednesday the 27th February and Thursday the 28th – are selling are almost gone. So book your tickets now and don’t miss an opportunity to see this hilarious comedy!
