Seniors    Newly crowned Premier Junior Champions Na Gaeil made the long journey to Templenoe on Saturday evening to take on the home side, newly crowned Intermediate Champions in round 3 of the Division 1 County League.

On a final score of Na Gaeil 0 – 18; Templenoe 1 – 11 Na Gaeil picked up our first points in Div 1. This was a hard earned win which seemed unlikely thirteen minutes from the end when we trailed by four.  The game was played in perfect conditions on a well maintained pitch.

The first half was a ding dong affair from the throw in with both sides giving of their best. Na Gaeil had three goal opportunities but magnificent saves by the excellent Templenoe net minder Dan Cahalane kept our best efforts at bay.

Our points came from Ian McCarthy, Niall O’Mahony, Mike Griffin and excellent free taker Dara Devine who scored three. We went in at the break a point down 1 – 05 to 0 – 07.

The home side threw everything at us in the second half and led 1 – 10 to 0 – 09 with just twelve minutes to go. Then some astute changes and the introduction of fresh legs from the bench changed the whole tempo of the game.

Our forwards outscored the opposition by 0 -8 to 0 – 02 in the final 12 minutes with Templenoe’s last score coming from a free, the last kick of the game.

Our scores came from Dara Divine 5 frees, Diarmaid Herlihy 2, Eoin O’Neill, Andrew Barry, Dara Reen.  This was a very good display by all after a very important game last week end.

There were emphatic displays in all areas with the more experienced players like Kieran Dineen, Eoin Doody and Andrew Barry being well supported by the new boys like Dara Devine, Niall O’Mahony, Fergal Barry, and Dara Reen who had a stormer after coming on and took his point with aplomb. It was great to see Diarmaid Herlihy, Darragh Sheehy and David Culloty back after long layoffs caused by injury.

Team: Eamon O’Neill, Ryan O’Neill, Kieran Dineen, Dara Sheehy, Niall O’Mahony, Andrew Barry, Fergal Barry, Eoin O’Neill, Dan O’Connor, Ian McCarthy, Eoin Doody, Kieran O’Donovan, Mike Griffin, Jamie Lowham, Dara Devine. Subs: Diarmaid Herlihy for Mike Griffin; Dave Culloty for Jamie Lowham; Padraig O’Sullivan for Dara Sheehy; Darragh Reen for Ryan O’Neill; Rory Murphy for Ian McCarthy;
