Race Night at Na Gaeil on Saturday night.

Munster Junior Final    All roads lead to Mallow GAA Complex on Sunday next December 8th for Na Gaeil V Mullinahone in the Munster Premier Junior Championship Final. It’s a first in the history of the club so don’t miss out on this great occasion. Come out and support the team on Sunday.

Match Transport    Buses will be leaving Na Gaeil at 1.45pm for Mallow GAA Complex on Sunday. The Munster Premier Junior Hurling Final is the curtain raiser to the Na Gaeil game so there will be traffic congestion and parking will be at a premium.

Book your seat on the bus as soon as possible in the clubhouse or with any club officer.  The cost of the bus is €10 return and U18’s are free.

St. Brendan’s Board Championship Final    St. Pat’s of Blennerville were Na Gaeil’s opposition in the St. Brendan’s Board Senior Championship Final played under lights in cold and dry Austin Stack Park on Friday evening last.

While not as consistent as in previous games Na Gaeil were always in control in this tie and were two points up after ten minutes of play courtesy of points from  Dara Devine and James O’Connor .

In the eight minute the St. Pat’s goalie batted a ball down onto the path of the in rushing Diarmaid Herlihy and he struck it low into the opposition’s net to give them a five point lead. Fergal O’Brien opened the scoring for the Blennerville side with a point on eleven minutes which was cancelled out almost immediately by a Dara Devine pointed free.

Na Gaeil’s Diarmaid O’Connor and St. Pat’s Paul McMahon traded points entering the 2nd quarter but it was Na Gaeil that tagged on the last three points of the half with another Dara Devine pointed free and one each from Diarmaid Herlihy and Kieran O’Donovan. Half time score: Na Gaeil: 1-07; St. Pat’s: 0-02.

Dara Devine again pointed a free on the re-start and it was a full ten minutes before the next score came, a point from St. Pat’s busy corner forward Fergal O’Brien. The Blennerville side battled hard and followed up again with another point from play from Brian Murphy to narrow the gap. Dan Goggin fired over for Na Gaeil entering the final quarter.

Fergal O’Brien pointed a free for St. Pat’s before Dara Devine also fired over a free at the other end. In the 53rd minute Jack Barry after a great run laid off the ball to his Kerry team mate Diarmuid O’Connor and he raced through the centre of the St. Pat’s defence to score one of his trademark goals from 20 metres out giving net minder Paidí Bailey no chance.

Na Gaeil management now ran their bench using their six substitutes and all impressed when introduced. Dara Devine and wing back Fergal Barry fired over two more for Na Gaeil before Jamie Lowham blasted the ball to the roof of the St. Pats net on 58 minutes. Darragh Reen scored a fine point on the run from 40 metres for the Killeen side.

But credit to St. Pat’s they never gave up and fought to the very end with their no. 6 Luke Mulligan kicking the last score of the game before referee Paul Hayes blew full time. Final score: Na Gaeil: 3-20; St. Pat’s: 0-06.Na Gaeil will be delighted with the performance of their defence with captain Eoin Doody leading by example.

Midfield were also on top and while the forwards played well they will be disappointed that their final touch often left them down. All in all it was a good competitive game that should stand them in good stead before they take on Mullinahone of Tipperary in the Munster Final next Sunday.

Chairperson of St. Brendan’s Board Liam Sayers presented the Phil McCarthy Cup to Na Gaeil captain Eoin Doody and he wished him and his team the very best of luck in their quest for Munster Glory next weekend.
