Na Gaeil Under 15 team who played Firies.

Seniors: Our seniors travelled to Caherciveen on Sunday to play St. Mary’s. Missing some key players, we found ourselves up against it from the very start.

St. Mary’s backs covered tigerishly from the throw in and forced our forwards to take shots from very awkward angles.

The home team got opening score a point from A Walsh after some broken play around the centre. Following a clash, we lost Tomás O’hAnifin who was replaced by Ruari O’Sullivan.

The home team got the next two scores before Darragh Reen got our first point, from play, after sixteen minutes.

Under huge pressure we conceded two more before the water break 0 – 05 to 0 – 01. St. Mary’s kept up the pressure and made it 0 – 08 to 0 – 01 with points from Dan Daly and the everlasting Bryan Sheehan.

Following some good work by our half backs, Barry and Doody both Jack Sheehan and Darragh Reen converted to leave the half time score 0 – 08 to 0 – 3 in favour of the home team.

After the break St. Mary’s managed two more before Darragh Carmody and Darragh Reen make it 0 – 10 to 0 – 05. Dan Daly and Darragh Carmody swop points which seems to raise Na Gaeil.  Darragh Reen makes it 0 – 11 to 0 – 07.  Then Dan Daly scores on the water break 0 – 12 to t 0 – 7. Immediately after the water break a well worked goal from Aidan Walsh put the game beyond our reach being, in arrears of seven late in game.

Jer O’Connor, Jack Sheehan, and Darragh Carmody closed the scoring to leave it at 1 – 12 to 0 – 10. Considering that we had a very depleted team we can look forward to better results when injuries sort themselves out.

Na Gaeil extends its sympathy to St. Mary’s on the death of Maurice Junior Murphy, May he rest in peace.

Senior B: Played in ideal conditions in Killeen Firies got off to a far better start, outscoring the home side 1 – 08 to 0 – 04 in the first period Their centre field and forwards found their men in good space allowing Pat Browne 1 – 00, Conal Murphy 0 – 03, TJ Palmer 0 – 03 and Conor Henderson and B O’Rourke 0 – 01 each. For Na Gaeil Owen Sheehy, Cian Devine a free, Lorcan Seymore and Tadhg Reen got a point each. Half time score 1 – 08 to 0 – 04.

Na Gaeil played much better in the second half outscoring Firies 0 – 10 to 1 – 04. Late in the game Na Gaeil were well in touch when Brian Burke got the second goal which really killed of the game. Palmer and Murphy got the points for Firies.

Just before halftime Na Gaeil hit back with a vital goal to put us ahead 2-06 to 2-04 at halftime.

An early 1-02 at the start of the 2nd half saw us race into a 7-point lead. By the second half water break we were up 4 points. From there until the end Firies exerted severe pressure on our defence but we held on to win by 3 points on a score line of Firies: 5-09, Na Gaeil: 5-12.
