Senior Team: Last Saturday our senior team had their first game of the season when they hosted Ardfert in the Town Board\St. Brendans Board league. Na Gaeil led by 2 points at halftime and although Ardfert reduced the deficit to 1 point early in the second half Na Gaeil added 6 points without reply to pull away and win by 1-13 to 0-9. It was a memorable day for young Jack Doyle as he made his first senior start and he can be very pleased with his performance. Well done too to John Kearney who came on as a sub for his first taste of senior action. Team: Aidan Quirke, Jack Doyle, Niall O’Mahony, Damien Bourke, Jimmy O’Sullivan, Ryan O’Neill, Andrew Barry (0-1), Eoin Doody, Fergal Barry, Seamus Looney (0-1), Dan Goggin (1-1), James O’Connor (0-1), Jack Sheehen, Darragh Devine (0-9, 8F), Cian Devine. Subs: Tomás Hanafin, Liam Óg Kingston, Declan Cooney & John Kearney. Next Sunday 13th March our seniors are away to Kerins O’Rahillys at 12.30pm in the next round of the Tralee/St. Brendans senior league.

Social: Na Gaeil Celebration/Social evening was held in Meadowlands Hotel on Saturday last. This was a hugely successful occasion thanks to the efforts of Cathy Carey, Margaret Doody, Jenny Sheehy and Therese Keating who worked tirelessly with the hotel over the last few weeks to make the event a resounding success.Na Gaeil were celebrating, from a football point of view, our most successful year ever. As Intermediate County champions, Intermediate Munster Champions and being promoted to Senior status we had much to celebrate.

Our senior team and mentors were feted by all the speakers and were congratulated, by special guest, Pat O’Sullivan, chairperson of the Co. Board as he presented each player with his medals. Conor Kavanagh kept the night running smoothly and named Enda O’Connor as Footballer of the year.

This was a very popular choice as evidenced by the reception the nomination got from his teammates and general guests. Conor, on naming Clubman of the year, explained that there were five, the senior mentors and coaches, Mark Bourke, Niall Lucey, Moss Whelan, Paul Daly and Niall O’Meara.

This group had put in a long year & had achieved their goals.Eoin Doody, senior captain, made a special award on behalf of the senior team to Paul Daly for his role as mentor and player within the group. He explained that after a particular game the opposition captain asked if Paul was one of Na Gaeil’s Kerry minors.

That in itself sums up Paul. Conor thanked the Meadowlands Hotel for a most successful evening which included a fantastic setting, a fabulous meal & outstanding service. Nothing more could be asked. Kerry Balloons added to the occasion with a fine display of Green and White balloons.

He thanked our sponsors, Louis Beirne, Declan Costello, The Rose Hotel, Ballygarry Hotel and Ballyseedy Garden center. Conor had a special welcome for the many players from the club’s ladies senior team who came and enjoyed the night.

Following a moments silence Fr. Padraig Walsh said the grace and remembered our ex chairpersons who died during the year, Denis Reen and Harold Behan and all other members and supporters who passed away during the year. May they rest in peace.
