Sympathy: The club wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late Luke Mullally, Brandon. Luke was part of our minor team about 10 years ago along with a couple of other lads from Castlegregory. May he rest in peace.

Ladies: Commiserations to Mary O’Connell & Laura Fitzgerald and the Kerry Senior Ladies team who were defeated by defending champions Meath last Sunday in the senior All-Ireland final. It was their first final since 2012 so hopefully the experience gained this year will stand to the girls and they’ll come back even stronger next year.

Wedding: Belated congratulations to our senior player Eoin O’Neill & his bride Denise Moran who got married a few weeks ago. We wish them a long and happy life together.

Congratulations: Well done to our U14 player Riona McMorrow Moriarty who had a fantastic 3rd place finish at the World Topper Sailing Championships in Italy last week.

Homecoming: Last Sunday night, July 31st, was a very special night in the history of our club as 2 of our very own players brought the Sam Maguire cup to the clubhouse.

Hundreds of people of all ages were there to welcome Jack & Diarmuid as well as the Kerry team manager, Jack O’Connor. Chairman Tim Lynch address the crowd and said it was incredible that Na Gaeil now had 3 All-Ireland medals. He spoke about the vision and bravery of our founder members, many of whom thankfully are still with us, who established our club over 40 years ago. Diarmuid O’Connor thanked the many coaches he had in Na Gaeil since the first day he started as well as his coaches during his time in Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn.

He said it was brilliant to win an All-Ireland alongside his club mates Stefan and Jack who he had always looked up to. He thanked everyone for their support all through the year. Jack Barry said it was a huge honour to bring the cup back to the club but it wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of the many excellent mentors and coaches in the club.

Jack O’Connor then spoke and said he was delighted to come to Na Gaeil to honour the lads. He recalled sending out an SOS to Jack & Diarmuid prior to Kerry’s crucial National League tie against Dublin this year (which was only a matter of days after Na Gaeil’s heart-breaking loss to Steelstown in the All-Ireland club semi-final) and neither of them hesitated.

Kerry went on to win that match and subsequently the National League title. Tim Lynch and Jack O’Connor then unveiled a framed photo of Jack, Diarmuid and Stefan which will hang proudly in the clubhouse for many years to come.

After the speeches both Jack and Diarmuid gave up so much of their time signing autographs and taking photos with what must have felt like every man, woman and child in Na Gaeil!

Sam Maguire: We look forward to having the cup in Killeen again during juvenile training on Sunday morning, August 14th.

U9 boys: The under 9s had a great evening out in Farranfore last Tuesday evening when they played Firies in the second phase of their Go-Games. We fielded 3 teams and our players did themselves and their club proud. Well done boys!

Thanks to Firies for hosting us and we look forward to welcoming them to na Gaeil in the near future. Last Sunday July 31st we made the short trip to John Mitchels where we enjoyed a great morning of football. Again we fielded 3 teams and all our boys played very well. Thanks to John Mitchels for hosting us.

U15 boys: Our lads defeated an under-strength Ardfert side last Wednesday night in their third game in the Kelliher’s Toyota Central Region competition. We still have 1 back game to complete, away to St Michael’s Foilmore and that will determine the semi-final pairings.

Executive meeting:  Last Thursday, 28th July, we held our monthly Executive meeting. All members in attendance were naturally delighted with Kerry’s win in the All Ireland final the previous Sunday and expressed their huge pride in the club’s own Jack Barry, Diarmuid O’Connor and Stefan Okunbor.

It was described by many as “the best day in the history of our young club”. Congratulations were offered to the familys of the 3 lads and also to the many coaches they’ve had over the years in Na Gaeil. Chairman Tim Lynch also commended RTE and TG4 for their broadcasts from the clubhouse during the game and the great exposure it gave to our club.

The executive also ratified a development committee which will look at all areas of development of our facilities in Killeen and hopefully look at expanding our facilities. Our members will be informed of any developments as they happen.

The delegates also wanted to wish the best of luck to Mary O’Connell and Laura Fitzgerald in next Sunday’s senior Ladies Football final in Croke Park. Other matters discussed at the meeting included the club lotto, the upcoming Senior Club Championship and various social events in the bar.
