Na Gaeil Crest 1Seniors    Na Gaeil travelled to South Kerry to face Valentia in Round 6 of the County League on Saturday evening last. In damp and misty playing conditions Na Gaeil were very sluggish in the opening half and found it very difficult to get into the game.  Na Gaeil actually trailed the home side until the 55th minute of the game. The first half was a low scoring affair due to the adverse weather conditions.  The sides were level at half time at three points apiece, the Na Gaeil scores coming from Ian McCarthy (0-2) and Mike Griffin (0-1)

With only three scores coming from play in the second half, Valentia seemed  to have done enough to secure the two points. But with time running out, two converted frees from Darragh Carmody brought the sides level. With Na Gaeil pressing, a high a short kick out was the undoing of the islanders.  Jordan Murphy collected the spilled ball thirty yards from goal. He delivered the perfect pass to Carmody who finished coolly to the net. This put a bit of daylight between the sides.  All six scores in the second half came from Dara Carmody (1-05) to give Na Gaeil a hard ground out win on a score line of Na Gaeil 1-08 Valentia 0-7.

Na Gaeil: Timmy Culloty , Eoghain Sheehy, Colm Lyons, Dylan Brazil, Paul Daly, Dave Culloty, Darragh Sheehy, Eoin O Neill, Dan O Connor,  Ian McCarthy(0-2), Dylan Seymour , Seamie O Neill, Darragh Carmody (01-05), Jamie Lowham, Mike Griffin (0-1). Subs: Ger O Connor for Dan O Connor; Jordan Murphy for Dylan Seymour.

We have one back-game v Lispole.

Minors   Our minors will get back to football action this week after their exams with a Central Region Div. 1 game away to Laune Rangers this Thursday at 7pm.

We leave Na Gaeil at 5.30pm. Training and games schedule will be given out then also for the month of July. It is important that all minors get a routine of training properly over the summer months.

We wish the best of luck to our players on development, district and county squads in upcoming events in the next few weeks. Other teams in Div. 1 are Kerins O Rahillys, Dingle and Austin Stacks. The St. Brendans Championship will be after that.

Féile U 14   The countdown to Féile is nearly over as the competition will take place next weekend. The boys have two games in Mountcoal on Friday evening. The first is at 5pm versus St Senans and the second game is at 6.30pm against Longford Slashers.

The girls are based in John Mitchels on Friday evening where they are playing Kingscourt at 5.30pm and a team from Scotland at 7.00pm. Both teams along with our visitors Lucan Sarsfields and London will gather back in the clubhouse at 8.00pm when the host families will meet the visiting teams and there will be food, music and a disco until 10pm.

The girls are first out Saturday morning and they are playing London at 10.15am in Killeen. This will be followed by the boys’ game v Lucan at 11.00am. The girls’ next game will depend on their results and they could have a quarter final on Saturday afternoon or a semi-final on Sunday morning.

The boys will have a quarter final irrespective of results at 2pm in Connolly Park on Saturday. The teams will meet up again at 6pm in Austin Park for the parade through the town which is due to start at 7pm. Players will be collected in the Rose Hotel car park at 8pm and brought back to the Club House for finger food.

Hopefully our visiting clubs and the Na Gaeil teams will still be involved in the competition on Sunday.

There will be an information sheet distributed to both teams during the week listing times and contact numbers for the week end.

U 14   The 2016 Central Region started last Monday with a home game versus Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane. Na Gaeil opened the scoring with a point before the visitors replied with a point from a free. Na Gaeil were soon back in the lead with a well taken goal.

However Glenbeigh replied with another free to leave two points between the teams after fifteen minutes. The teams swapped points before Na Gaeil scored a goal and a point in the closing minutes of the first half to leave the score at half time Na Gaeil 2-3, Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane 0-3.

Both teams struggled with the wet conditions in the first half, however Glenbeigh made a blistering start to the second period and scored early three goals to take the lead for the first time in the game.

However Na Gaeil got back into the game when they were awarded a penalty which was converted to bring the teams level. The home side were soon back in the lead with a point, which was soon cancelled, with another point from the visitors.

Na Gaeil got the next score and as the match entered the final quarter were a point ahead. Na Gaeil finished the game strongly and scored 1-3 while keeping Glenbeigh scoreless for the final quarter of the match to leave the final score Na Gaeil 4-8; Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane 3-4.

This was a hard fought victory in poor conditions and Na Gaeil had to work extremely hard for their victory. The game was in the balance until the final 10 minutes and it took a strong finish from Na Gaeil to clinch the victory. The next game in the Central Region is away to Castlegregory on Monday at 7pm.

U 12   We hosted the last game of the County League last Sunday evening against Austin Stacks in Killeen. Team Captain, Jack Dakissia opted to play with the strengthening breeze in the first half and the boys racked up a sizable score by half time including a fine goal by Shane Kelly who was first to react to a wayward clearance from the Stacks goalmouth.

The second half saw a spirited fight-back from Austin Stacks including 3 goals in the space of eight minutes but we continued to get scores when it mattered to give us a comfortable win at the final whistle. All the team contributed to a fine performance with Batty Coffey, Sean Barrett and Seamus O Neill impressing on the night and also Kian Sheehan who had another fine game between the posts.

Training continues Thursday 6.30 pm.

U 6   Sunday last saw us away to Abbeyfeale. Despite tough weather conditions our team battled hard to create the first goal which was despatched to the net by the talented Joe Field. But Abbeyfeale fought back and an equaliser came within seconds. With two more unanswered scores, Abbeyfeale edged their way to glory but with our team spirit and determination we will live to fight another day.
