Na GaeilNA GAEIL U16: Na Gaeil travelled to Killorglin to take on Laune Rangers in round one of the ‘County League’. Both teams had met earlier in the year in the Central Region where Laune Rangers defeated an under strength Na Gaeil team.

This eagerly awaited contest promised to deliver some exciting moments and a close game. Na Gaeil had the perfect start with a Tadhg Lynch goal in the opening seconds of the game. Laune Rangers pointed a free two minutes later but the lads from Tralee seemed to have the stronger drive. Good work from Fergal Barry set up Dara Devine for a point in the eight minute.

Shortly after Dan Goggin popped the ball over the heads of the Rangers defenders into the path of Aaron Dewey where hepunched it to the net to put Na Gaeil firmly in the driving seat.

Laune Rangers launched a counter attack on their opponent’s goalmouth but good goalkeeping by Na Gaeil’s ShawnDuggan drove the ball wide of the posts so they had to settle for a point from the forty five. The lads from the banks of the Laune kept coming for more scores but great defending kept them out and they had to settle for a point from a free in the fifteenth minute.

Na Gaeil kept the pressure on Laune Rangers and good play resulted in two more points from Aaron Dewey and Fergal Barry. Dara Devine, who was playing brilliantly, sent a rolling ball into the Rangers net in the twenty first minute but a quick rally by Rangers also saw them find the net within a minute.

With two goals between the teams, Laune Rangers again narrowed the gap to four points with a fine long range point and one from a free with five minutes left in this half. Na Gaeil showed their fighting spirit with a well worked Ryan O’Neill point assisted by great play from Dan Goggin and Fergal Barry.

Na Gaeil had a last minute pointed free to put them ahead by two goals at the interval. Half time score Na Gaeil  3-05, Laune Rangers 1-05.

Na Gaeil had the better exchanges of play in the first half but Laune Rangers seemed to find their feet in the second half and threw all they had at their opponents and lifted the tempo of the game even more.

Good defending by Na Gaeil and a few fine saves off the line by Shawn Duggan kept his team ahead.

However Rangers did manage a goal and two points from play within the first ten minutes. One of the memorable moments of the game was when Ryan O’Neill burst out of defence with the ball, up along the sideling, beating off three to fourattackers and sending the ball into his forwards where Niall O’Mahony sent it to the net, highlighting the role that all the defenders played in this game tonight. Declan Horgan also made a very important interception that could have resulted in a certain score.

The game was exciting and fast and Diarmuid O’Connor certainly added to this with a twentieth minute goal at a stage when it was needed to keep distance between the teams.

With seven pointsseparating them Rangers reduced the deficit to just two points with five minutes to go.

Diarmuid O’Connor provided a sigh of relief with a twenty eight minute point and Dara Devine provided the insurance point shortly afterwards. Both had great games tonight leading their team to a well-deserved victory. Final score, Na Gaeil 5-07(22), Laune Rangers 3-09(18)

NA GAEIL GIRLS U14: The girls had a good run in the county div 4 where they had a very close semi-final with Scartaglin loosing by  four points in the end having leveled the game with only 6 minutes to play.

Congrats to Scart who went on to beat Dr. Crokes in the final. Competitive games do not resume until the N. Kerry league kicks off in August. We will take a two week break until July 12th as the girls (and coaches!) need a little R & R.  Enjoy the Summer break!

THANK YOU:We  would like to say a big thank you to Fitzgibbon Interiors for their generous sponsorship of our new jerseys which the girls wore during last Friday evenings challenge game against Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s.

NA GAEIL GIRLS U 12.:Our under 12 girls team earned a fantastic victory over table toppers Laune Rangers at Cillín last Tuesday.

We raced into an early lead which we never lost due to a long range goal from Sarah Barrett who returned from injury with a strong performance.

Our next three points all came from the boot of Emma Dewey who, with our other corner forward Siena Lucey worked hard all game both defensively and in attack.

The Rangers came to Na Gaeil unbeaten and their wing forwards were reputed to be very strong but the wind in their sails was deflated by another strong performance by young Aoife Barrett and Ailbhe Ní Dhálaigh who gave her best performance of the season.

Particular praise also to Kealinn and Kara who are improving with every game and to the ever reliable Eimer and our most hard working player Ciara Rath. The turning point in the game came half as the game was delicately poised when a great clearance from Megan Fernane was caught and rocketed to the net by the left boot of Kayleigh Costello.

Thereafter we maintained our lead and another goal from play by Sarah Barrett ended the game as a contest.

Another fine performance from our girls whose attitude is second to none and if we had not lost some players to injury and illness we would surely have been in the semi finals.Full Time : 3-05 (14) to 0-06 TEAM Winnie Burke Síle Ní Loingsigh Eimer Ní Shúilleabháin Megan Fernane Alibhe Ní Dhálaigh Sarah Barrett Aoife Barrett Kealinn O Brien Elizabeth Burke Freya O Connor Muire Kingston Siena Lucey Kayleigh Costello Siun Fitzgibbon Emma Dewey.
