REPORT: Kerry FC Earn Another Draw Away From Home

.

David Moriarty reports on Kerry FC’s game in Ballybofey last night where the points were shared…

FINN HARPS 0-0 KERRY FC

Kerry made their longest trip of the season on Friday evening as they took on Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Kerry picked up one point in the two visits to Finn Park last season and Conor McCarthy’s side hoped that they could gather their first three points against the Donegal side since their inaugural season last year.

Harps striker Success Edugon, whom Kerry are familiar with from his great performances last season for Treaty Unite has been in fantastic form so far in the opening five games this season.

Continued below…

.

Kerry’s back five setup were hopeful they could neutralise the striker on a chilly night in the hills.

Antonio Tuta returns to Finn Park for the first time since leaving to join Kerry at the start of the year. Tuta showed a blinding display against Kerry in the side’s last meeting saving an array of great efforts and being equal to a Leo Gaxha penalty to level the game in the late stages.

Kerry FC were undefeated in their previous three games going into the battle against Finn Harps.

They were looking for their first win of the League of Ireland season and were hopeful that a win in Donegal could kick-start their season.

The game started as a close contest with Kerry getting off the mark first through a shot from Victor Udeze. Although the shot was on target it fell easily into the arms of Tim-Oliver Hiemer.

Harps got through with possibly the best opportunity of the game at the early stage. A pass fell into the path of Success Edugon, he lifted the ball over Antonio Tuta and thankfully Samuel Aladesanusi was on hand to clear the ball off the line and clear the Kerry FC line of defence.

Ryan Kelliher had the next shot at goal in the game. He received the ball on the left side of the area just outside of the box.

Continued below…

.

He tried to whip his effort into the top left corner but unfortunately, it hit the roof of the net and the game remained level after the first twenty-six minutes.

Finn Harps showed the most dangerous signs towards the end of the first half. The first warning sign came as Shane McMonagle had his header saved brilliantly onto the crossbar by Antonio Tuta.

The home side had another chance go begging as a scramble in the box eventually ended up well wide of Tuta’s goal.

Harps would be disappointed with themselves that they could not find a way through the Kerry back line. Kerry’s back five setup were well up to the challenge that the home side conveyed towards them.

If they could build onto the defensive display in the second half and get a few more chances on goal, there was nothing stopping Kerry from coming away with all three points.

Finn Harps came out of the traps fast in the second half with a shot from distance being brilliantly blocked by Ryan Kelliher and directed out for a corner. The corner subsequently was collected very calmly by Antonio Tuta.

Victor Udeze got forward again like the start of the first half to make a bit of space for himself to let fly from a decent distance.

The shot had very little power on it, but the precision nearly brought it into the bottom left corner. Unfortunately for Udeze and Kerry, the shot did go wide of the Harps’ goal.

Kerry dominated play from the seventieth to eightieth minutes with a free kick from Sean O’Connell going on target but not troubling the keeper.

Ronan Teahan and Steven Healy also added long-range efforts in those stages but did not harm Hiemer in any sort of way.

Finn Harps troubled Kerry in a ten-minute stage of the second half where they gained eight corners in that time but every one of them was cleared by the superb Kerry defensive side.

Despite a late flurry of attacks from Finn Harps, none of them materialised and the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

Kerry played their game plan perfectly and was unlucky not to come away with the three points. That is now four games unbeaten for the Kingdom as they look to make their way further up in the First Division standings.

They take on Wexford FC back at home in Mounthawk next Friday where they will be hopeful to finally gain their first League of Ireland win in their home ground.

Know Your Rights: Entitlements For Public Holidays

.

Know Your Rights has been compiled by Kerry Citizens Information Service which provides a free and confidential service to the public…

Q. As an employee, what are my entitlements in relation to Public Holidays?

Most employees are entitled to paid leave on public holidays. There is an exception for certain part-time employees

If you qualify for public holiday benefit, you are entitled to one of the following:

• A paid day off on the public holiday
• An additional day of annual leave
• An additional day’s pay
• A paid day off within a month of the public holiday

You can ask your employer at least 21 days before a public holiday, which of the alternatives will apply.

If your employer does not respond at least 14 days before the public holiday, you are entitled to take the actual public holiday as a paid day off.

Continued below…

.

Q. As a part-time worker, what is my entitlement to in relation to Public Holidays?

If you work for your employer for at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the public holiday and it falls on a day you normally work, you get paid for the day even if you don’t work. If you have to work that day, you are entitled to an extra day’s pay.

If you don’t normally work on a certain day but it’s a public holiday, you should get paid one-fifth of your weekly pay. Even if you never work on public holidays, you still get paid a fifth of your weekly pay as compensation for the public holiday.

Again, you must have worked for your employer for at least 40 hours in the 5 weeks before the public holiday.

You can count time spent on annual leave as ‘time worked’ when calculating the 40 hours worked in the 5 weeks before the public holiday

Q. What is my entitlement if the public holidays falls on a weekend?

When a public holiday falls on a day which is not a ‘normal working day’ for that business (for example, on Saturday or Sunday), you are still entitled to benefit for that public holiday.

For example, you may get an extra day of annual leave, or an additional days pay, or a paid day off within a month of the public holiday. However, you do not have any automatic legal entitlement to have the next working day off work.

Continued below…

.

Q. Is Good Friday a public holiday?

Good Friday is not a public holiday. While some schools and businesses close on that day, you have no automatic entitlement to time off work on that day.

Q. How is the date of Easter Monday set each year?

Easter Monday is the only public holiday that can vary significantly from year to year. The date of Easter moves every year. Easter should be the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after 21 March.

This means the earliest possible date for Easter Sunday in any year is 22 March, and the latest is 25 April. Easter Monday falls on 1 April 2024 and 21 April 2025.

Q. What are my rights if I am on sick leave on a public holiday?

If you work full-time and you are on sick leave during a public holiday, you are entitled to benefit for the public holiday you missed.

Your employer can also choose to regard you as not on sick leave on the public holiday and pay you as normal for the public holiday. If this is the case, the public holiday is not counted as a sick leave day.

If you are a part-time worker and  you are on sick leave during a public holiday, you are entitled to benefit for the public holiday, once you worked for your employer for at least 40 hours in the previous five-week period .

However, there are some exceptions. You are not entitled to pay or time off for the public holiday if you are on sick leave immediately before the public holiday, and either of the following apply:

You have been off work for more than 26 weeks due to an ordinary illness or an accident
You have been off work for more than 52 weeks due to an occupational accident

Q. What can I do if I am not getting my public holiday entitlement?

If you are not getting your public holiday entitlement, you should discuss this with your employer.

You can also complain to the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) under the Organisation of Working Time Act. You must make your complaint using the WRC’s online complaint form within 6 months of the dispute or complaint occurring.

This time limit may be extended for a further 6 months, but only where there is a reasonable cause which prevented you from bringing the complaint within the normal time limit.

You should contact your local Citizens Information Centre for information and assistance re making a complaint to the WRC and the WRC Adjudication process.

• For anyone needing information, advice or have an advocacy issue, you can call a member of the local Citizens Information team in Kerry on 0818 07 7860, they will be happy to assist and make an appointment if necessary.

The offices are staffed from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm.  Alternatively you can email on tralee@citinfo.ie or log on to www.citizensinformation.ie for further information.

Finnegan On Films: Three To Watch On The Box Tonight

.

Our movie guy, James Finnegan, picks three movies to watch on TV tonight…

In amongst the multitude of rugby and soccer fixtures, there are still a few films that are well worth viewing on Saturday.

Paddington (Saturday 7pm RTE1) tastefully updates the traditional story of this long time children’s favourite.

A bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) from darkest Peru, with a taste for marmalade, arrives in London following an earthquake.  However, the reality is somewhat different from the stories he had been told of life in England.

Continued below…

.

He is taken in by the Brown family, and named Paddington after the train station in which he was found.

Little do they realise, that evil taxidermist Millicent Clyde (Nicole Kidman) also has her eyes on Paddington as a potential exhibit for the Natural History Museum.

Written and directed by Paul King and staring Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent and Peter Capaldi, this film is a total joy from start to finish and is the very definition of perfect family viewing.

The American President (Saturday 9.40pm TG4) was written by Aaron Sorkin, and the themes, styles and even front of camera talent can be seen as early drafts of his later work on the “West Wing” television series.

Continued below…

.

Directed by Rob Reiner, widowed US President Andrew Shepherd (Michael Douglas) begins a relationship with an environmental lobbyist, Sydney Allen Wade (Annette Bening).

This gives his opposition opponents the opportunity to attack the President’s moral and political leadership at a time when he is trying to pass gun control legislation and run for re-election.

Also starring Michael J. Fox, Martin Sheen, John Mahony and Samantha Mathis, this is a rather idealised version of American politics but is none the worse for that, especially in the US election year.

Continuing the patriotic theme, comes, well, The Patriot (Saturday 9.50pm RTE2) where retired solider Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) has turned his back on military life to become a farmer in South Carolina.

When his son is murdered by British soldiers during the American War of Independence, he takes up arms once again on a mission of vengeance and revenge, which brings him up against a sadistic Officer Colonel Tavington (Jason Isaacs)

The film also stars Joely Richardson, Heath Ledger, Tom Wilkinson and Chris Cooper and is directed by Roland Emmerich who is no stranger to action sequences. Enjoy!

.

TRALEE Musical Society is back with the musical comedy Sister Act which will be staged from April 9th to April 13th.

Based on the hit 1992 film, the stage production is filled with gospel music, dancing and a  story that will entertain audiences.

Tracy Foley is Mother Superior, alongside award-winner Clodagh Harrington as the ‘nun on the run’, Deloris Van Cartier. Featured nuns also include Tracy O’Keeffe, Caroline Spillane, Brona Ringland, Anne Marie Early and Mary Higgins.

Continued below…

.

Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (Newsies, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), the musical was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be a found: a convent.

Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover.

Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood.

Tickets are €21 and can be booked at the Siamsa Tíre box office on 066-7123055 or via the  website: https://siamsatire.com/

Annette Says Farewell After 22 Wonderful Years At Listellick School

.

IT was an emotional Thursday for all in the Listellick school community as they bade farewell to their much-loved Principal Annette Dineen.

Pupils, staff, members of the board of management and local clergy filled the sports hall at the school for a gathering to honour Annette who has been in Listellick for the past 22 years.

The Timoleague native took a while to get there though, first graduating from Careysfort College in Dublin back in 1983, after which she got her first teaching post in Neilstown, Clondalkin for a year.

Continued below…

.

This was followed by four year spell at Brookfield, Tallaght before heading off to London where she taught in two schools over a period of four years.

Home beckoned though and Annette came to Tralee in 1991, subbing in a number of schools in the Tralee area before securing a permanent job at Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn in 2000. A job at Listellick came up in 2002 and that’s where spent the rest of her career, becoming principal 12 years ago.

She has seen many changes in her time there, the most significant of which was the building of the new school which opened in early 2023.

At the ceremony, a number of heartfelt tributes were paid to Annette by staff and the board of management, as well as presentations made and a section of the new biodiversity garden named in her honour!

Annette told the gathering how much she has enjoyed her time in the school working with the children and staff and how she will miss them. The ceremony came to an emotional close with the pupils singing ‘Tomorrow’ from Annie.

Continued below…

.

Afterwards, we asked Annette what she would remember most about her time at Listellick.

“The community. That’s what really struck me — how they come together. When  people came for the 150th anniversary celebrations you heard what the school meant to them, their memories, the positivity and love for this place.

“I’ll really miss the staff and pupils of course. They’ve kept me young, there’s an energy about kids that’s invigorating. Of course it’s tiring, but you learn so much from them too. Over the years I’ve found out about Bebo, WhatsApp, TikTok and so on!” said Annette.

There’s plenty to keep Annette busy in retirement. She’s a beekeeper, cycles regularly, swims and plays golf (“badly” she says), as well as spending time with her daughters Máire and Kate, who were there for her at the farewell ceremony.

Best of luck to Annette in the future and indeed to her successor, who has big shoes to fill!

THE folks at Tralee Lions Club are once again showing their generosity in the community by organising a fundraiser for a local school.

St Ita’s and St Joseph’s School has started a campaign to raise funds for a new bus for transporting children on school trips and activities and this campaign has already realised €6,000.

However, they have a long way to go to reach their target of €25,000 and a table quiz to be held at the Kerins O’Rahillys Club next month will put a few more euro towards that goal.

Continued below…

.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Club for kickstarting our fundraising journey,” said a spokesperson from the school.

“Now we appeal to the generosity of local businesses to join hands with us in supporting this vital cause. Your contribution will not only help us acquire a new bus but also enrich the lives of our students with transformative educational experiences.”

The quiz takes place at The Klub @ Kerins O’Rahillys Clubhouse on Thursday, April 18 at 8pm and all are welcome.

KERRY GAA stars Diarmuid O’Connor and Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh traded their football boots for bicycles on Wednesday afternoon as they helped local cancer support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, kickstart their recruitment campaign for this year’s Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle (ROKCC).

Recovery Haven has been chosen as a Tier Two beneficiary of the renowned charity cycle which takes place on July 5 and are now calling on the public to sign up on their behalf.

The charity was thrilled to accept an invitation from Ballygarry Estate Hotel and Spa owners to use their beautiful location as the backdrop to launch their recruitment drive, with ROKCC PRO Cathal Walshe and GAA stars Diarmuid and Louise taking time out of their busy schedules to lend their support.

Continued below…

.

Recovery Haven PR & Marketing officer, Marisa Reidy, said that while several people have already signed up to cycle for the charity since registration opened, they really want to spread the word about the charity’s involvement again this year and explain just how much people’ s support means to their service users.

“We are so thrilled that people have already signed up to cycle for Recovery Haven – but it’s really wonderful to see Diarmuid, Louise and Cathal here with us to help us spread the word even further,” she said.

“The main aim of this campaign is to show people that when they sign up to cycle for Recovery Haven, all their fundraising efforts will come directly to us, allowing us to continue to offer free supports to those dealing with cancer.

“The feedback from clients is truly touching and quite emotional – from people saying that Recovery Haven was their light at the end of a very dark tunnel; that we helped them to develop a resilience they never imagined;  to someone who described Recovery Haven as their lifeline when they were sinking.

“This is so wonderful to hear, so what we want to stress is that those signing up for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle in aid of Recovery Haven are contributing directly to that. It’s our amazing supporters who allow us to make that difference and that is what makes this event so, so special.”

For those interested in signing up for this year’s cycle in aid of Recovery Haven Kerry, all you have to do so is:

Log onto https://www.ringofkerrycycle.ie choose ‘Register Now’, click ‘Register for Ring of Kerry Charity Fund’, choose Recovery Haven Kerry from the drop down menu.

And this year, everyone who registers to cycle for Recovery Haven can also set up their own idonate page to raise even more funds for the charity.

Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí Partners With German School For Exchange Programme

.
Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí TY students with Leas Príomhoide Donal Ó Ruanaidh, TY co-ordinator Fiona Uí Mhuiris and Príomhoide Ruairí Ó Cinnéide.

STUDENTS at Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí are embarking on an exciting language, cultural and sporting exchange programme with their fellow German students at partner school Martin von Cochem Gymnasium in the town of Cochem located in the Mosel region between Frankfurt and Cologne.

This new initiative won the joint support of Léargas, the Irish cultural exchange promotion agency together with their colleagues at Erasmus+ the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport.

The Gaelcholáiste third year students are in the process of planning the exchange project now and will travel to Cochem on the Mosel River, in October 2024 to experience full immersion in daily school and family life in Germany.

Continued below…

.

The programme also includes a series of events and presentations centred on Irish and German culture.  The centrepiece of the sporting element of the exchange will be a special GAA football tournament.

The Mosel valley is a highly scenic region, famous for its romantic ancient castles, terraced vineyards and home to the best Riesling in the world.

The town of Cochem is itself a picturesque German classic of half-timbered houses with a riverside promenade, restaurants and inns huddled around a market square, with the Reichsburg Cochem castle soaring over the town on a mighty crag above.

On arrival, the Irish students intend to spread the Gaelcholáiste mission. Gaeilge is an official European language, and this is a wonderful opportunity to teach the German students the cúpla focail.  The Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí students, and their families will host their German friends on the return exchange in April 2025.

Kerry FC To Make Long Journey For Finn Harps Clash

.

By Ivan Hurley

KERRY make the nearly 830km round journey to the hills of Donegal this coming Friday evening (kick-off 7.45pm ) to face Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

The Kingdom go to the Northwest on a three-game-unbeaten run, the first time in the club’s history. Back-to-back league draws against Athlone Town AFC and Cobh Ramblers have Kerry FC 9th in the SSE Airtricity First Division table.

Last year’s top goal scorer Ryan Kelliher got himself on the scoresheet for the first time in 2024 last week and the Killarney man will be hoping to add more goals to his name on Matchday 6.

Continued below…

.

Finn Harps have started the season in a rich vein of form and impressively came back from a goal down to beat Wexford FC by 2 goals to 1 in Ferrycarrig Park.

A win for the Donegal side could see them sit on top of the table come 10pm on Friday having recorded wins against Athlone and Longford along with an impressive draw with league favourites Cork City on matchday 2.

McCarthy’s charges will be buoyed by Cobh’s 1-0 win in Donegal two weeks ago as the Kingdom go in search of three points which would catapult Kerry FC up the table at the early stages of the season.

Two of Kerry FC’s main men in 2024 played for the Donegal side in 2023. Winger Daniel Okwute played for Harps on loan from Stockport County for the opening months of last season and even faced his home town club Kerry twice while playing for Finn Harps before he secured a move home in July last year.

Kerry’s shot-stopper Antonio Tuta also played for Finn Harps last term. The Croatian moved to Ireland in August and produced some fine saves to deny Kerry a point on our last trip to Ballybofey.

Tuta signed for Kerry in the winter transfer window and quickly became the Kingdom’s number 1 between the sticks.

In his pre-match press conference, First Team Coach James Sugrue reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game tomorrow night.

Jack Kavanagh, who is yet to feature for Kerry in the league is back training and it will be a question of time for him if he is to make his debut.

Valerii Dolia remains unavailable as he recovers from a foot injury but is getting closer to a return every week. Nathan Gleeson is also set for a spell on the sidelines as he waits for an infection to clear.

“Darren Murphy is doing some great work there,” said James Sugrue. “I had a good conversation with him last year, he’s a good lad. He has the team working together. It’s easy to see Ballybofey is a tough place to go, the players work really hard for each other.

“So I’ve said to our boys we have to be ready for a battle. I’ve played up there a good few times and it’s intimidating to go and if you’re not ready for that battle up there you are in for a rough night. It’s the type of game that makes teams, we have to win our individual battles, second balls and if you can get a result up there it should really drive us on,” added Sugrue.

UNIVERSITY Hospital Kerry (UHK) has announced the return of the People of UHK Awards for 2024, now in its third year.

Once again, they invite the public to nominate deserving members of  UHK staff who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to patient care and service excellence.

Following the tremendous response from the public in previous years, with hundreds of nominations pouring in annually, the Awards have become an integral part of the UHK annual calendar.

Continued below…

.

These awards recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by UHK staff across all departments and disciplines.

The Awards provide an opportunity for patients and their loved ones to acknowledge and recognise those individuals and teams who have made a positive impact on their hospital experience.

Last year, 13 deserving winners were honoured across team and individual categories, each receiving a bespoke UHK trophy and certificate in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

Staff members from any department or service within UHK are eligible for nomination, with individuals both front-facing and behind the scenes being recognised for delivering exceptional patient care and assistance.

This year, public nominations can be made in two categories:

• The Patient Care Awards recognise exceptional care provided by any staff member who significantly contributes to patient well-being.
• The Service Excellence Awards celebrates the vital contributions of non-clinical support service staff who operate behind-the-scenes.

Mary Fitzgerald, General Manager of UHK, expressed her appreciation for the dedicated staff: “The People of UHK Awards celebrate the individuals and teams who go the extra mile and make a real difference to our patients, families, and colleagues. We are privileged to have such a passionate and dedicated team here at UHK, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to honour and recognise their service through these awards.”

The nomination period is now open until May 30th, 2024. People can submit their nominations online at www.uhk.ie/awards.   Nominations can also be made via hard copy with Nomination forms available at UHK main reception and via local press.

It just wasn’t their day! However, they played wonderful football, they graced GAA headquarters as outstanding ambassadors of Kerry football, they played sportingly and they gave of their ‘almighty best’ go dtí séideach deireanach fheadóg an réiteora!

They gave their followers a great season of exciting college football, they defeated other good college teams (including their near rivals, clubmates and good friends, the boys of The Green CBS….probably the 3rd best team in the country!!), they won Corn Uí Mhuirí, they won many admirers, made lifelong friendships, gained invaluable experience and…and they shortened our winter!

The dark cloud will lift and life will go on for these young men! Tá anam agus spiorad iontu seo! Mar a dúirt imreoir amháin tar éis an chluiche: ‘táim croíbhriste anocht ach tá BRÓD orm!’ We are so proud of our 10 Rock boys and their teammates. AN GAELCHOLÁISTE: Peileadóirí Faoi 15 GCC were unlucky to miss out against Coláiste Íde agus Seosamh, Mainistir na Féile, in a tight affair ag Ionad Spóirt agus Fóillíochta Thrá Lí. Dhá phointe ónár Stacach, Joe de Barra, and his comrades’ heroic efforts were not sufficient to reduce the 3 point deficit that stood when the referee’s final whistle blew. Bhí Rory Ó Loinsigh ar an taobhlíne in his role as Oifigeach Idirchaidrimh (Liaison) Spóirt. We are gutted for our laochra óga ach beidh siad ar ais amach anseo!! (Dáithí Ó Loinsigh)

Seniors:

We open our county league division 1 campaign next weekend when Laune Rangers are the visitors to Strand Road on Saturday evening ( 23rd) with a throw-in time of @ 5 pm.

Our division 6 game is yet to be finalized and details, once they become known, will be published on social media channels.

.

Hogan Cup Final:

Mounthawk succumbed to reigning champions Omagh CBS on Saturday last when going down on a final scoreline of 3-14 to 0-11.

There was only one point in it at the interval and hopes were high of a historic victory but the concession of two goals in six minutes in the second half proved too much with Omagh running out convincing winners in the end.

Congrats to Tomás, Jake, Odhran and Bréandán who were part of such an historic occasion.

Golf Classic:

There has been tremendous interest in our fundraising golf classic which will take place on Good Friday, March 29th in Tralee GC.

We comfortably filled our allotted number of teams with many businesses coming onboard to sponsor a tee/green.

In conjunction with the event, there is a raffle for a two night break for two on a bed and breakfast basis plus an evening meal in the Skellig Hotel very generously donated by the Garvey Group; in addition, Benners Hotel, Tralee are giving us a one night break for two with an evening meal for good measure.

Tickets @ €20 each are available from club members or the Klub.

There has been an exceptional response to our fundraising initiatives which will see funds raised being allocated to improve and upgrade facilities both in Healy Park and Strand Road.

Juvenile Academy Notes:

This week we gave everyone a break as it was St. Patrick’s Day and our juveniles were busy getting ready to march proudly in the parade. Well done and thank you to all involved in this year’s Parade especially our committee members and coaches who marched with the children.

Next Academy Training will take place next Sunday 24th March at 9am in Tralee Sports Complex again. We look forward to seeing everyone at training.

Bring a friend:

We are running a little initiative where everyone that brings a friend who is a new member to Academy will be entered into a draw for themselves and their friend for a full Kerins O’Rahillys Kit and Football. Keep an eye on our social media for more info.

Clubzap:

It is vital that all members download clubzap and add Kerins O’Rahillys to their account. Clubzap will be used for all communication regarding each age group from U5s upwards. If you are having any difficulty with joining clubzap please ask one of our committee members on Sunday mornings to assist you and we will be happy to help. Or contact us through any of our social media outlets.

Registration:

We kindly ask that all Juvenile Members have fully paid registration before 31st March. If you need any assistance or have any queries please contact us through any of our social media platforms or ask a coach/committee member at training. We are happy to help.

Best of luck to CBS The Green, Tralee U17 team and management especially our own club players Nick Lacey, Jamie McCarthy and Brayden Pierce in the Frewen Final this Wednesday when they play St Pats of Castleisland.

PHOTOS/REPORT: Warriors Come From Behind To Seal Semi-Final Place

Alan Cantwell reports on the InsureMyVan.ie Men’s U20 National League 2023/2024 – Quarter Final on Bank Holiday Monday…

Tralee Warriors’ credentials to win back to back Mens U20 National League titles survived a thorough examination on Bank Holiday Monday when they came from behind to overcome a talented Templeogue side and qualify for a semi-final meeting with Limerick Celtics.

It was far from straightforward for Luke O’Hea’s charges as they trailed by as much as 8 late in the third but a 20-10 final quarter saw them power home to keep their title defence intact.

Templeogue had the better of the early exchanges with baskets from inside and outside from Jacob Fazande, Adam Tighe and Jake Mullins giving the visitors an 11-6 with the Warriors on the mark through Josh Osayanrhion, Olaf Michalczuk and Eddie Sheehy.

.

The hosts were back on terms when Michalczuk knocked down his first three of the evening and Sheehy slalomed to board to land a fine score.

Despite another tough basket from Jacob Fazande, the Warriors edged ahead through Osayanrhion and Sheehy to lead 19-16 at the end of the first.

The Warriors took off on an impressive run early in the second and with Sheehy, Osayanrhion, Michalczuk, Brian O’Leary and Donal O’Sullivan all getting in on the act to see the home side’s lead blow out to 35-21.

However Templeogue regrouped and finished the quarter the stronger with scores from Mullins and Gian Cabello with a double each, Jack Wright and Jacob Fazande cut the gap to 5.

Eoin Creedon was to have the last say in the quarter landing a tough effort to give the Warriors a 41-34 half-time lead.

.

Templeogue began the third quarter with real intent and by the time Jake Mullins had landed his second basket of the quarter to add to efforts from Adam Tighe and  Jacob Fazande, the Dublin side led 46-44.

The Warriors solitary score was a major from Creedon as they struggled to contain the Templeogue offence.

It got worse for the Warriors when Tighe, Fazande and Wright shared a combined 7 points late on to stretch their advantage to 53-45. Crucially for the Warriors Olaf Michalczuk got a late, late open look to arc in a cracking three to cut the Templeogue lead to 53-48 at three quarter time.

Brian O’Leary pared the lead to a single score early in the fourth but Templeogue’s response was immediate with Wright and Mullins striking from either side of the arc before Michalczuk hit nothing but net again to spark another Warriors run that would prove to be decisive.

O’Leary followed his lead with a major from the wing and Eddie Sheehy took responsibility to land two tough inside scores to edge the Warriors ahead again by the minimum.

Osayanrhion then struck for the score of the game landing an alley oop effort after being teed up by Sheehy, he slammed in a jaw dropping score to bring the sizable crowd in Moyderwell to their feet.

It seemed to instantly diffuse the Templeogue challenge and Osaynrhion took the momentum from his stunning score to post a quickfire 5 points to see out the win for Warriors by 68-63 in the end.
