THE weather was kind, but that was all nature conceded to the 450 participants in the ‘B Wildered – John Lenihan Wilderness Challenge’ on Saturday at Glanageenty, Ballymac.
Sponsored by Lee Strand Protein+ Milk, the event was another massive success and Ballymac GAA club were the big winners as proceeds from the event will go to them.
Participants were tested to the limits of their fitness with the 7.5km course designed by running legend John Lenihan in conjunction with Joe O’Connor, Nisus Fitness.

The first of ten waves of participants set off at 11am and – after a warm up – were brought to the start of the arduous course where a number of spirit-sapping obstacles greeted them.
But it was all worth it to complete the course and the smiles at the finish line said it all.
“It was a fantastic success,” said Teresa Higgins Walker of Lee Strand. “We’d over 450 participants which is a huge increase on last year, so it’s going from strength to strength. The weather held, which was great and everybody seemed to have great fun. The challenge was a lot tougher this year with extra natural obstacles. Lee Strand is delighted to support Ballymac GAA once again this year and great credit is due to the volunteers and stewards on the day. Roll on next year,” she said.
Teresa also thanked Tom and Kathleen Herlihy for opening up their farm for the event and John Lenihan and Joe O’Connor for designing the course.
All participants received a B Wildered finisher’s mug, medal, goody bag, refreshments and went back to the barn to enjoy a post-hell BBQ. Scroll down for loads of photos…
