TEAMS from supermarkets, companies, hospitals and the Garda took to the astroturf yesterday for the inaugural Turner’s Bar Invitational Cup.
Twelve teams took part in the tournament at the ITT North Campus sports grounds in aid of Acquired Brain Injury Ireland.
The tournament was organised by Brian McCarthy from Kielduff, whose brother works for the organisation. Brain Injury Ireland is building a house out in Castleisland and funds are needed.
Teams from Garveys Supervalu, Aldi, Dunnes Stores, Tesco, Borg Warner, McDonalds, UHK, Gardaí, Bons, the Ashe Hotel and the ‘Golden Oldies’ took the astro-turf field at the college for the Turner’s Bar-sponsored event.
It cost €100 per team and the seven-a-side games were just eight minutes a side, with teams separated into three groups of four.
In the end, Aldi faced a Dunnes Stores team in the final, with the lads from the German supermarket chain emerging victorious. Scroll down for photos…
