THERE was a great turnout at St Pats GAA club grounds in Blennerville on Sunday as the club held its Health Club Launch and Family Fun Day.
St Pats has become part of the Irish Life Healthy Clubs nationwide GAA initiative. Families from club and the community turned out to support our event and thankfully the rain stayed away so everyone could enjoy the activities.
Parents and Bridget O‘Riordan from the club coordinated the childrens food and there was a great display of healthy options to choose from. They also had delicious options from Muerte BBQ and 2-Beans-in-a-Box.

Chartered physiotherapist Mark Thompson, of Fairies Cross Medical Centre, gave his time for free advice on all matters physiotherapy / orthotics.
Minor team manager Eoin Sayers and former Kerry player and manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice had a chat with the kids on healthy habits growing up, both with choices in what they eat and their habits off and on the field.
There was a very competitive U11 boys vs U12+ girls match, Tug-of-War challenges, slow bicycle races, welly throwing and much more.
The Intergenerational Rounders proved a big hi for all 50+ that joined in the two matches and the club plans to keep the rounders going on a monthly basis on a Sunday afternoon. It was a fantastic community event and well done to all involved. Scroll down for photos…
TRALEE Dynamos FC is to host a family fun charity event with all gate proceeds on the day going to the Kerry Parents and Friends Association.
Taking place on Sunday, September 5, from 1pm to 4pm at the grounds in Cahermoneen, everyone is asked to come along for some fun and support a very worthy cause.
There is an entrance fee of €20 for two adults and two children and some of the fun activities on the day include;

There will also be a barbecue and penalty competitions. The emphasis is on fun to help raise funds for this deserving charity of Kerry Parents and Friends.
THE Irish Feis Dancing competition is in full swing at the moment in Pearse Park with hundreds of dancers competing and families from all over the country staying in town.
However, there’s still much more to look forward to after the dancing finishes on Saturday evening. Sunday will see the start of the Féile Family Camps at the Park and places are filling up fast.
The camps will continue until Wednesday and with the weather set to improve, it’s an ideal place to bring the kids for a few hours.

THE public is invited to Nolan’s Garage on the North Circular Road later this month for a great family day to help out Pieta House.
Londis are a Charity partner of Pieta House in 2018 and in conjunction with that, Nolans Londis are having a big family day on Saturday, October 20 which was launched yesterday by Mayor of Kerry, Cllr Norma Foley.
It all forms part of the Pieta House Feelgood week which runs from October 20 until the end of the month and Nolans Londis are delighted to be involved.

They are having a Bikeathon which will be set on the garage forecourt from 9am till 6pm and they want participants from all over town to get involved. They already have 100 people who will get on the bikes doing 10 minute slots.
They are also having Facepainting for the kids, music all day, spot prizes and refreshments for everyone, so come along and enjoy the fun and why not jump on one of the bikes and participate with some of the many people who will be there on the day.
THE Credit Union have picked 26 locations across Ireland to avail of free crepes and coffee for the public and Tralee was one of them.
“It’s great way to promote what we do in Tralee Credit Union,” said Suzanne Ennis of Tralee Credit Union.
The van created a buzz around Ashe Street where shoppers and visitors to the town were served up free crepes outside the Credit Union office.
“The whole idea is that people can come in and have a quick chat with us about our different offers,” said Suzanne.
There was also face-painting for kids along with the ladies Senior Football Munster Cup, which staff member of Tralee Credit Union and member of the Kerry team, Eilis O’Connor, proudly displayed.
MICHAEL Healy Rae officially launched details of the Abbeydorney Vintage Weekend last Thursday evening at Abbeydorney GAA Grounds.
This year’s two day event, on August 8-9, kicks off with registration at 5pm on the Saturday, for the Vintage and Classic Car and Tractor Run.
All vehicles will set off from the Vintage Field in the village at 5.30pm with the routes to be revealed on departure.
There will be pit-stops along the scenic routes for refuelling and light refreshments. Both the vintage cars and tractors are expected to arrive back in the village at 8pm, when prizes for Best Vintage Tractor and Best Vintage/Classic Car will be presented the worthy recipients.
All participants will receive a plaque marking their involvement in the event. A BBQ and live music will keep the participants and spectators entertained long into the night.
On Sunday, August 9, the vintage show will get underway at 12 noon with an action-packed day of activities and entertainment for all the family.
Events and Activities include: Trade Stands, Auto-Jumble, Tug-of-war, Threshing, Fun Fair, Dog Show, Fire Engine Rides, Live Music and lots more. Over 180 cars and tractors will be on display on the day.
It is sure to be an enjoyable day for everyone and proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Nano Nagle School in Listowel.
IT was a great afternoon of family fun in the Town Park on Saturday for the Meadowlands Hotel Fancy Dress Fun Run.
Part of the Tír Na nÓg festival taking place around the town this weekend, the event drew a plethora of ‘Annas’, ‘Elsas’, ‘Batmen’, ‘Spidermen’ and many more great costumes from participants.
Hundreds gathered to watch Linda Flanagan of Zumba Salsa Tralee teaching kids how to dance while the characters from Kingdom Party Pals also joined in.
The race itself was a short affair as kids dashed around a short circuit getting a memento for their achievement.
It was a great day and much credit must go to Dejan Kolic and Sophia O’Brien who organised the entire day as part of their final project in IT Tralee.

THERE was a great sense of a community coming together in the name of fun on Sunday, as St Pat’s GAA club hosted their annual family day.
Hundreds turned up in the autumn sunshine for an afternoon of music, puppet shows and games, with plenty food and refreshments laid on for everyone.
“We’ve been running it for the last four years,” said Club Chairman, James Costello. “It’s a day to reward the club members for putting in the long hours and also for the kids to get together at a social event to have a bit of fun.”
“We have the sumo wrestling, skills tests, three legged race, long puck and we play the final of the internal club league as well.”
The family day was due to take place last Sunday but was postponed due to the passing of club stalwart, Tony O’Donoghue.
“Tony was the lifeblood of the club. He was the guy holding the whole thing together,” said James. “We postponed it last week due to his death and we gave him a good send-off but it’s great to see so many of his family here. We had a walk earlier and a collection in aid of the Palliative Care Unit of the hospital in his memory.”
A great day and well done to all the volunteers who helped make the event so special.
THE residents of Ballyrickard Court got together on Sunday for a great afternoon of family fun.
It was all thanks to the Infinity Youth Group who are made up of young people from the Spa Road/Ballyrickard area.
“We decided to hold the fun day to get the community together,” said Michaela Brosnan, one of the group leaders. The group received funding from Tralee Credit Union last month through the Youth Union scheme, so they had €300 towards the day.
“There was a bouncy castle, face-painting, spud and spoon races, a dog show and loads more going on. We also had the KDYS Youth Cafe Bus there and we held a FIFA 2014 tournament,” she said.
“It was a great day and one resident in the estate told me it was the first time she got together with fellow residents in the three years since she moved into the estate so she was delighted,” said Michaela.
Well done to all involved, especially the Infinity group who consist of Georgina O’Reilly and Michaela Brosnan and members Shannon McInerney, Lauren Moriarty, Niamh Brosnan and Leanne Moriarty.
RESIDENTS in Criolar na Mistealach turned out in force on Saturday for a family fun day to get the community together.
There was food and refreshments, a bouncy castle and a DJ there to entertain all and everyone enjoyed themselves in one of Tralee’s newest estates.
“We’re only after starting out here in the estate about 18 months,” said James O’Sullivan, Chairman of the Criolar na Mistealach Residents Committee.
“We had a Christmas party and that turned out brilliant so we decided to have a family fun day. It’s going fantastic, everything went off perfect and we had a blessing of the estate with a DJ and bouncy castle for the kids,” said James.
“There’s 18 houses here in the estate and we collect €5 from each resident towards the cost of the party. It’s all to try to get people together for the good of the community. Many of the residents would be originally from the Mitchels area but we have new arrivals of other nationalities also,” said James.
THERE will be free family entertainment over in Manor Park, Manor West on Saturday, when Suits Select celebrates its one year anniversary at the premises.
In conjunction with The Streat Cafe next door, who are marking their third year anniversary, the two have come together to put on the ultimate family day out on Saturday, July 12.
They have a magician, face painting, two bouncy castles and a live band all starting from 12pm till 6pm. So if you are around Manor Park make sure you pop in and have a great time on them.
Suits Select is part of the Paraffin Group and has been in Tralee a year this month, and it has been greatly received by the people of Tralee and surrounding areas.

HUNDREDS turned up at Ballymacelligott GAA grounds on Sunday for the Ted O’Keeffe Family Fun Day.
“Ted O’Keeffe was a former chairman and longtime worker for the club. He was a great supporter and inspiration to the club and parish,” said Club Secretary, Fionnán Fitzgerald.
“This day was instituted in his memory after his passing a number of years ago. The whole day is about self-giving, fun, enjoying sport in a non-competitive way. Any money taken in today pays for the running of the day’s events,” said Fionnán.
There was a huge amount going on including face-painting, sumo wrestling and a tug-o-war with families enjoying a barbecue in the sunshine.
THE Kerry Rose hoisted the Green Flag at the held the first ever Family Fun/Open Day at Oakview Village Childcare on Saturday.
A great day was had by all who attended and enjoyed the many activities and barbecue. They were delighted to have the Kerry Rose, Mary Hickey, there as she chatted and posed for photographs with the families.
‘We would really like to thank all those who came along on the day, and we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we all did!” said Clodagh Moynihan, Centre Manager.
IT should be an action-packed day at Oakview Village Childcare on Saturday when they hold a Fun Family Open Day.
The Kerry Rose, Mary Hickey will on hand to raise the Green Flag at the centre at 3.15pm and Kelliher’s Mills, Farm Garden and Pet Supplies will bring along baby chicks on the day for children to see.
There will also be lots of fun things to do including a barbecue, outdoor games and activities, Face Painting and a Children’s Disco.
New families will also have the opportunity to view the Centre. Children must be accompanied on the day.
A FANTASTIC family fun festival will take place in Ballyheigue next month with loads of free entertainment and a fashion show extravaganza.
The 12th annual Ballyheigue Summer Festival takes place from Sunday, July 6 to Sunday, July 13. This year’s programme is packed with lots of fun for everyone of every age, and one of the numerous highlights will be the Fashion Show in the Community Centre on Wednesday, July 9.
Themed on both Summer Style and Getting Racy, the show will feature the latest looks from all of Kerry’s top boutiques and designers and admission is only €10 including complimentary drinks reception.
With two Best Dressed Ladies Prizes, spot prizes and the finale of Ballyheigue’s Best Male Stylist 2014 it promises to be a great night. Both the fashion show and the raffle are in aid of Jackie Crowe.

Each budding male stylist will then present his model on the runway and talk through his look. The audience will decide who wins. It promises to be unmissable and lots of fun too. Ballyheigue native and top DJ, Ray Stack, will both MC and produce the fashion show. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are only €10 and will be available on the night.
