AN event held before Christmas at Keane’s of Curraheen raised an impressive amount of funds for a young girl from Ballymac dealing with a serious illness.

The ‘Santa Experience at Keane’s’ was held on December 4/5  and, along with the proceeds from a special Christmas raffle, raised €11,697 for Rose O’Flaherty’s ongoing treatments.

Rose is a 4 year old girl from Ballymac who suffers from a rare and serious neuromuscular condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.

There is no cure for SMA but there are treatments available to help manage and reduce discomfort.  There is a treatment plan in place but they need the public’s support and the Help Rose Bloom campaign was launched last year.

The event at Keane’s was outdoors where families had a private meeting with Santa who gave a present for each child and there were lots of treats and surprises along the way. All public health guidelines were adhered to during the weekend.

John Keane said he was delighted to host the event to help out the O’Flaherty family, while Karen O’Flaherty thanked John and the local community for the huge effort that went into organising the event and the raffle.
