Over 1,000 people attended the Kerry Jobs Fair at The Rose Hotel Tralee on Tuesday 18th April. The event was  co-ordinated by Elaine Kennedy, NEWKD in collaboration with DSP and Tralee Chamber Alliance.
According to Elaine Kennedy, “We are delighted with the response to the day, it was a huge success. There was a lovely relaxed and informal atmosphere and people really appreciated the opportunity to talk face to face with employers. It can be difficult to make a direct connection with an employer so we were happy to be able to remove some of the barriers.
Robert Carey, Manager of SICAP programme at NEWKD was delighted that the event attracted “such a diverse group of people from all over Kerry. Our work is very much about equality so it was great to have such an inclusive event. We organised buses and translators for Ukranian refugees and it was great to be able to connect them with employers”. NEWKD are part of supporting Ukrainian Refugees in Kerry and employment is a key part of this.
According to Elaine Kennedy, “The response from employers was fantastic. Over 35 employers and services were present on the day advertising over 400 jobs and their feedback was really positive.  Along with this, NEWKD featured a Jobs wall with a further 200 jobs available in the area”.
Employers were offering hundreds of jobs across a range of sectors including technology, office admin, accounts, hospitality, food production and tourism. Employers were interviewed and filmed about their ongoing recruitment needs and this footage will be available in a webinar over the coming weeks.

Collaboration & Engagement Key to Progress of Kerry Tourism Industry Federation since 2020
Kerry Tourism Industry Federation held a Members’ Day at the Gleneagle Hotel on Tuesday 28th March. 
In addressing the membership on the day, Chairperson Pat O’Leary spoke of how the tourism industry of Kerry has used the platform of KTIF since its establishment in 2020 to form solutions to challenges faced by the industry and represent the industry with a collective voice at both county and national level. 
In its four years of operation, KTIF has also raised the profile and advocated for tourism industry education and upskilling. In 2021 and 2022, KTIF’s active sustainability sub-committee worked with industry partners to achieve a Global Sustainable Destination ranking of thirteenth in the world.
The federation also continues to lead the collaborative destination marketing for Kerry through its tourism brand Discover Kerry. 
Members of KTIF are being encouraged to support the development of www.discoverkerry.com which is a partnership project of KTIF, Kerry SciTech, and Kerry County Council. An industry-wide call for events, product/business listings, and content submissions will follow from KTIF. 
Following the success of the Members’ event, Chairperson Pat O’Leary is encouraging the business and tourism communities around Kerry to engage further with the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation member organisation most relevant for them as listed below:
KTIF also welcomed the Fáilte Ireland team to the meeting and Jill deAzevedo presented visitor survey findings for Kerry which was very positive and gave much encouragement as well as points for discussion for the members. 
KTIF Chairperson Pat O’Leary says, “We are encouraged by the support of the many local business and community alliances, regional tourism networks, and representative agencies who make up the Kerry Tourism Industry Federation membership. Together, we will continue to advocate for the tourism industry at local and national Government levels, provide the platform and forum for the development of sustainability policies and initiatives for the tourism sector, support industry education/upskilling and collaborative destination marketing for Kerry.”
