KERRY ETB’s Kerry College students ended 2019 on a very positive note by hosting a number of events for local charities and the funds were presented this Tuesday morning.
Representatives from Pieta House, the Tralee Soup Kitchen, the Irish Cancer Society and St Vincent de Paul were present to accept cheques totalling over €2,840.
The funds were raised through a variety of events organised and managed over the past semester, including a 5K Colour Fun Run in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, Carol-Singing in aid of Pieta House, Face Painting and Karoke/Lip Sync in aid of the Tralee Soup Kitchen and St Vincent de Paul.

Fundraising efforts from Individuals, teams, class groups and the entire student and teacher body resulted in this phenomenal sum being raised – all for local charities and organisations specifically selected by the students themselves.
The Business Management and Physiotherapy Assistant/Sports Therapy students organised the 5K Fun Run for the Irish Cancer Society; a student Natalia Siembab, studying Personal Training and Strength & Conditioning, used her makeup artistry skills to transform students into horrific zombie-like creatures for the Hallowe’en party and all donations she received went to the Tralee Soup Kitchen.
The Music Performance and Music Technology students performed a Christmas Carol rendition in Tralee town centre in aid of Pieta House and our International and Mature Student cohort arranged a major karaoke and lip-sync competition in aid of the Tralee Soup Kitchen/St Vincent de Paul.
Principal, Mary Lucey, commended the Kerry College students for their involvement, initiative, hard work and creativity in conceiving and managing all the events.
They were run under the guidance of the Kerry College teachers, in particular Maria Brosnan, Mary Galvin and Miranda Cournane.
“We, at Kerry College, encourage community spirit continuously and this is demonstrated through the recipient charities and organisations, the students want to fundraise and support organisations who provide support to those in need within our local communities. Sincere thanks to all the local businesses who provided support in the form of spot prizes and donations for the various events. The Kerry business community are hugely supportive to Kerry College and it is greatly appreciated.”
