THE price of petrol and diesel at the filling station pumps around Tralee has risen since we last carried out a survey three months ago.

In fact, three stations have gone over the €1.40 per litre mark for petrol and over €1.30 per litre for diesel for the first time in years.

In our regular check, it shows that there are varying prices of petrol and diesel at garages around town, ranging from €1.35.8 to €1.40.9 and €1.25.8 to €1.30.8 respectively.

THE price of petrol may have rose by as much as four cent per litre in many garages around town between December and January, but they have remained around the same price in the last six weeks.

In our monthly check on the prices of petrol and diesel, it shows that there is just a one cent per litre of a difference in price between 12 of the 13 petrol stations.

Applegreen at Fairies Cross was slightly the better value or petrol and diesel at €1.33.5 and €1.23.5 respectively. The most expensive was Texaco in Oakpark at €1.39.9 for petrol and €1.29.9 for diesel.

In general, petrol prices rose by a cent in some garages while diesel prices fell by a cent in others. See the full list of prices below…

THERE has been a sharp increase in the price of petrol around town over the last month and there isn’t a lot of difference between the vast majority of the town’s 13 garages.

Over the course of a month petrol has risen by €0.05 per litre at most of the town’s garages.

Six stations are offering an identical price of €1.29.8 per litre. They are: Both Top and Applegreen garages, Monavalley Service Station and Topaz in Clash.

Following close behind are four garages offering €1.29.9 per litre. They are: Both Inver garages, Texaco in Blennerville and Esso on the North Circular Road.

The most expensive places to buy petrol are: Topaz garages in Manor West and Mounthawk along with Texaco in Oakpark.

OVER the course of the month we have seen a slight rise in petrol and diesel prices at the 13 petrol stations around town.

Prices had dropped at the beginning of last month but since then there has been a fractional increase in fuel costs.

€1.23.8 was the best value last month, the cheapest now is slightly over it at a price of €1.24.8 at Joe O’Connor’s Topaz garage in Clash. Just trailing by .1 of a cent is the Topaz station just up the road in Manor West.

Once the proposed Topaz service station at the old John Mitchels pitch is completed we may have four Topaz stations operating in the town. Double the amount of any other rival supplier.

OVER the course of a month we’ve seen a levelling off in the price of petrol around the 13 stations in town.

Prices have dropped fractionally also, with a couple of exceptions, there is very little disparity between stations in terms of cost.

Out in front is Top in Caherslee at €1.23.8 per litre followed very closely by the other Top station in Clash – €1.23.9. 

With a total nine stations recording only .1 of a cent difference in price between each other, the onus on motorists to shop around  isn’t as important at the moment.

Tralee will get another petrol station in the near future as last week it was announced that Corrib Gas have the go-ahead to build a new facility on the site of the old John Mitchels football pitch on John Joe Sheehy Road.

PETROL prices have dropped again over the course of the month since we last did our check.

Since mid-January, when we did our survey, petrol prices  have remained under the €1.20 mark.

But whereas before there was two or three cent difference between some stations, most in town have now settled on a price of €1.17 per litre.

The price of crude oil combined with fluctuations in currency markets are contributing factors to the relatively low prices and to fill up your tank now costs less than it did last year when petrol prices hit a six year low nationally.

The cheapest places in town to get petrol are the Applegreen stations in Manor Village and Fairies Cross and the  Top station in Caherslee, all with a price of  €1.17.8. per litre.

Eight stations occupy the second spot with a price of €1.17.9 they are – all Esso, Inver and Topaz stations, Top Horan Centre and Texaco Blennerville.

The most expensive places to get your petrol are, Texaco in Oakpark and Amber Monavalley– €1.19.9
