Free Online Course For Those Supporting Loved One With Cancer

CANCER support charity, Recovery Haven Kerry, will host a free, six-week online course for those supporting a loved one with cancer, beginning on September 14th.

Given over two and a half hours, one day a week, for six weeks, the Building Better Caregivers programme will offer valuable support and practical advice to those dealing with a cancer diagnosis of a loved one, family member or friend.

This evidence-based programme has been developed by Stanford University and will cover topics such as communication skills; staying well and getting a good night’s sleep; tools for managing fatigue; dealing with challenging emotions and behaviour and getting help and action planning.

The six-week programme will commence on Tuesday, September 14th and will run weekly, via Zoom,  from 10.30am to 1pm.

Kerry Projects To Receive €476,000 In Funding

AN announcement of €476,000 in funding for Kerry under the Our Rural Future Digital Innovation Programme has been made today.

The programme funds Local Authority-led innovation projects that provide a public benefit and support regional digital development.

In total €476,800 in funding is awarded to three major projects across the county. Some €200,000 will fund the roll-out of the innovative pilot scheme at Inch Beach over to multiple beaches in Kerry and other public attractions.

Part of the project’s scope is to deliver Disabled Bay parking sensors to provide the Local Authority and public with live information on their status (free / busy).

The scheme also provides for smart sensor technology to monitor the water quality, lifebuoy and asset alarms, digital signage and fund the integration with websites and Apps like discoverkerryand the Atlantic Discovery App and the EPA’s beaches.ie.

The Smart Park Kerry project receives €76,800 to develop a new easy-to-use Disabled Parking application.

The Atlantic Discover Platform has been awarded €200,000 to provide an enhanced digital visitor experience whilst visiting Kerry / the SW / the Atlantic Seaboard.

The platform will provide an authentic brand experience that will increase awareness, direct bookings and physical visits.

Welcoming the news, Minster for Education and Kerry TD, Norma Foley said: “Innovation and creativity has always been at the heart of Kerry’s visitor attractions. I welcome this funding which will provide digital innovation to enhance and improve the imagination, energy and expertise that already supports Kerry’s vibrant tourism sector.”

Met Éireann Issues Rainfall Warning For Kerry

ENJOY the dry weather today because Friday is going to be a wet one according to Met Éireann.

They have just issued a Status Yellow  Rain warning for Kerry as well as Mayo and Galway.

Heavy and possibly thundery falls of rain at times onThursday night and on Friday with a risk of localised flooding. The warning is valid from 1am on Friday to 4pm on Friday.

After that, it’s set to be a sunny evening in the Tralee area. Saturday will see further showers but also sunny spells before some really nice weather kicks in for the following days.

Sunday will be dry, but Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday looks like better days with sunny spells and temperatures in the low 20s.

Council Invites Applications For Streetscape Enhancement Scheme

KERRY County Council is inviting applications for funding under the Streetscape Enhancement Scheme which was recently announced by the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

Under the pilot scheme, as part of Our Rural Future – Ireland’s Rural Development Policy 2021-2025, the Council is inviting applications from business and property owners at the following locations:

• Ballybunion – Main Street
• Castleisland – Main Street
• Killorglin – Langford Street (Part of) and Lower Bridge Street to the Square

The scheme is open to commercial/residential or vacant buildings in the selected streets which have been chosen by the local authority as pilot areas to avail of the funding.

Funding is available for works including replacement of existing shopfronts with traditional or contemporary designs, replacement of signage, decluttering and other enhancements to the exterior of buildings.

The grant scheme is at 70% grant rate in the case of an individual property or 80% where there are three or more adjacent properties to a maximum overall grant to any one building of €8,000. Applications and written submissions must be submitted by 7 September.

The Range To Create 80 Jobs At New Manor West Store

A COMPANY is to create 80 jobs at a new store in Manor West later this year.

The Range, a home, garden and leisure retailer, will begin recruitment for the full and part-time positions next month.

The new outlet will be located in the former Debenhams unit at Manor West Shopping Centre.

There is also likely to be additional seasonal positions available. The Range has over 180 stores in the UK and Ireland.
