Students and teachers graced the catwalk for their annual charity Fashion Show Fundraiser. This show was very well organised by the students with the assistance of their teachers …from the design of the tickets, dressing and building the stage and catwalk, engaging with local shops and boutiques to sourcing spot prizes and sponsors.
It was truly a glamorous evening.
The local businesses as always were extremely supportive of them . Proceeds from the show went toward Downs Syndrome Kerry and the Kerry Hospice Foundation.
And of course an event in 2022 in Kerry wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Sam who also graced the catwalk on the night with Tomás Kennedy raising the cup on stage with pride.

On Sunday night we had our very first Race Night, there was a great turnout out with much of the wider community coming to enjoy the event. On the night we had Tim Moynihan as MC who did a wonderful job of guiding everyone through the night from calling out the up-and-coming race to helping make sure everyone got their bets in.
There were many prizes with raffles for spot prizes, prizes for Jockey, Trainer, and Owner but the most coveted prizes which people waited on was who won Best dressed lady and Gent. These prizes went to Norma Flynn and Eoin Sayers. Winner for our Hamper was Fiona Costello on the night.
There was great excitement as the night got closer to the last race our Auction Style, Tim Moynihan started the bidding for each horse in this race with names like Bomber Liston, Jack O Shea, Charlie Nelligan, David Clifford, Maurice Fitzgerald, Pat Spillane, Mikey Sheehy and the most important of all Liam Poff
Our auction race got underway with great cheers from the crowd when Liam Poff was ahead unfortunately he got pipped at the post much to the disappointment of those who had him. €900 was given out for our Auction Race once everything settled down after celebrations.
Finally a massive thank you to Tim Moynihan who was MC for the night, Tom Quane who provided food and the venue for the event, the race night committee for putting it all together and last but not least everyone who sponsored a race, took a full page advert, helped support us in any other way it was much appreciated. Also thank you to all those who came and supported the night.
U9’s and U11’s
Well done to the boy’s team that represented St Pats at the Kilmacud Crokes blitz today in Ballyrickard. While our season is officially over, we brought some of the older boys along to the event. It was an opportunity to challenge ourselves against new opposition. It was a great experience and there was some brilliant football played over three matches. We worked really hard and showed great team spirit to stay competitive in the games.
The boys did the club very proud with their performance on and off the pitch. Thank you to Kilmacud Crokes for the invitation and to Kerins O’Rahilly for hosting the event. A big thank you also to our coaches Brian O’Regan, Michael Higgins, John Colivet, and our head coach Joe Costello.

Under 13 Boys
Ballymacelligott U13 boys were invited to take part in the Raymond O’Hagan inaugural football blitz at Mungret St Paul’s Limerick Last Saturday the 22nd of October. The blitz would be 15 aside with 10min per half.
A full bus of excited boys left Ballymacelligott GAA pitch at 8am. We made our way to the outskirts of Limerick city arriving in plenty of time to prepare for our first game against Mungret White.
We lined out on the juvenile pitch and won our first game 3.7 to 2 points.
Our second game was against Mungret Red which was a tougher game but we still won 2.6 to 1.2.
Our third game was against Lissycasey from Clare this game proved to be a tougher task which we lost 6 points to 3 points. Despite the loss we made it into the cup final against the team which we just lost to.
We broke for lunch before the final and we would like to thank the Mungret St Paul’s parents for providing the fine spread of tea sandwiches treats and crisps.
The final was played on the senior pitch and it was a cracking game with all the lads giving 110%.
There were some great individual displays but more importantly a superb team performance.
Unfortunately, we lost by the tightest of margins 1.3 to 1.4
Congratulations to Lissycasey
We left for home soon after and the boys chatted and sang all the way home.
Boys that travelled were Jack Lynch, Gearoid O’Connor, Darragh McMahon, Gearoid Joy, Harvey Leen, Fionn Enright, Eric Quirke, Jack Collins, Jackson Brosnan, Liam Rahilly, Ryan Burke, Daniel Moriarty, Patrick Leen, Graham West, Conor Lynch Shane Cassidy, Jamie Harrington, Tadgh O’Connor, Ciarán Brosnan, and Kyran Boyle

U11 Boys
Our last day of football for this 2022 season saw the u11 boys tog out on a very wet Saturday morning for a final fling in the Ballyrickard Blitz. As it turned out the majority of the day stayed fine and 16 die hard boys turned up to play matches against Kilmacud Crokes and St Pat’s Blennerville.
The boys played 4 matches in this non-competitive competition and enjoyed every minute of it. It was a really well organised blitz and thanks to KOR for hosting.
Surprise guest Paul Murphy dropped in to watch the boys play and pass on a few words of wisdom to the boys.

OVER 300 runners took to the roads of Tralee on Sunday morning for the Tralee Half-Marathon.
The race started from outside Clifford’s Cash and Carry at 9am and led the participants on a route taking in the Spa, out to Ardfert and back to town finishing at Neil Armstrong Way in the Town Park where a big crowd at gathered to welcome them home.
Tralee man Derek Griffin was first home in 1:13:36 followed by Andrew Nevin and Aoife Cooke. Race Director, Jim McNiece was delighted with how the day went.
Continued below…
“The race was sold out for the past two weeks but we were able to facilitate extra runners this morning at a reduced rate. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, it’s a beautiful day,” he said.
This was the final race in the Tralee race series which took in the 10k, 50k, 100k, Marathon and Half-Marathon runs throughout the year.
“It’s been a fantastic year, especially after COVID and there was great local representation. I want to thank everyone who helped today, including The Huddle Bar who opened up this morning so participants could use the facilities,” added Jim. Scroll down for photos…
OCTOBER saw 220 patients waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Kerry, the lowest number for the month in six years.
In October 2021 there were 343 people waiting on trolleys at UHK
The monthly Trolleywatch figures compiled by the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation shows that numbers of patients on trolleys in hospitals around the country was 10,679 making it the second highest October on record.
Continued below…
INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said: “We are now in a situation that unless we see meaningful interventions from the HSE and Government, we are going to be in a perilous state this winter in our hospitals. We have seen three instances of over 600 people on trolleys in the past week alone. This is not sustainable for nurses, midwives and other patient-facing staff.
“Over 393 children went without a bed this month. Our members in paediatric hospitals are reporting that not only are we seeing more and more children presenting, but there are also less staff to deal with the demand. The safe staffing levels in one Dublin paediatric hospital are half of what they should be. This cannot continue further into the winter.
“Unsafe staffing levels are going to be a feature of this winter unless we see targeted recruitment and retention plans in each hospital to allow for more nurses and midwives to be recruited at the pace in which we need them, Directors of Nursing and Midwifery in each hospital should have a greater role in recruitment.
“The Department of Health and HSE must come forward and state when exactly capacity will be utilised from the private sector. All capacity that is available to the State at this point must be made available until at least March. Our members and the patients they will be caring for must be assured that all beds that can be used, will be.
“We urgently need access to private hospital resources, increased staffing and a detailed timeline for the winter plan.”
THOSE of you with a ‘dodgy box’ can get anything you want at any time, but if you’re looking to narrow it down to some movies on regular TV tonight, step this way.
With no frightening flicks on terrestrial channels, we’ll have to venture further into ‘cable TV’ land.
The Exorcist — 10pm BBC Three HD (Sky Channel 169)
The daddy of them all really. William Friedkin’s adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s book of the same name is regularly cited as the scariest film of all time and with good reason.
Twelve year old Regan becomes possessed by a demon and it’s up to two priests to save the day, is the one-line synopsis, but this isn’t schlocky B-movie fare.
Continued below…
The cast is made up of thespian heavyweights like Ellen Burstyn, Lee J Cobb and Max Von Sydow, while Friedkin builds the tension slowly and Regan’s descent is well-paced.
The film has lost its power over the years due to endless parody and modern audiences will be desensitised to the violence, but when it was first released people had to carried out of cinemas after fainting due to the visceral assault on the senses.
Still though, you’d be brave to watch it alone tonight!
The Thing — 11.05pm, Legend (Channel 148 on Sky)
While The Exorcist is rolled out as the best horror movie ever, this is my personal favourite.
From the master of terror, this is director John Carpenter’s best film and is close to perfection in the genre. It’s fascinating that it was a commercial flop and critically panned on release back in 1982, but is now recognised as one of the greats of cinema.
A team of American researchers in Antarctica is visited by an alien presence which infiltrates the station, resulting in a masterpiece in tension and claustrophobia.
The special effects, from 22 year old Rob Bottin, were revolutionary at the time and still hold up today, while Ennio Morricone’s soundtrack is a character in itself.
Continued below…
The cast of Kurt Russell as MacReady, supported by character actors Wilford Brimley, Donald Moffat and Keith David, are all on top form (especially during the blood test scene) and the ending is ambiguously brilliant and brave.
Unfortunately it’s on a channel with adverts which will break up the tension, so you’re better off recording it and forwarding the ads for the best experience.
After that, choices are very limited. Jeepers Creepers on Horror Xtra (Sky channel 317) at 9pm sees a brother (Justin Long) and sister (Gina Philips) pursued by a demon serial killer in a pedestrian, average horror movie.
Venturing into Netflix-land there’s a lot of horror movies to choose from, but if you want something more satisfying then check out Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting Of Hill House.
As much a family drama as a chilling horror story, the ten-part series it’s rightly regarded as one of the best series produced for the streaming service and received glowing critical acclaim.
Based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson, it tells the story of the Crain family who move into a house with a dark history. If you like jump-scares and a genuinely chilling story then this is well worth your time.
Flanagan has followed it up with further decent enough made-for-Netflix series The Haunting Of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Midnight Club, but Hill House is the best.
