Gavin O’Connor meets former League of Ireland player, Derek O’Brien, who came home to give something back to his boyhood club, Tralee Dynamos, as they bid to make history this Sunday…
BACK in November, Kerry soccer pioneer Derek O’Brien, returned home to Tralee Dynamos with the expressed goal of finishing up his career winning a trophy with his boyhood club.
Derek O’Brien, holds the record for appearances by a Kerry player in the League of Ireland and also has the honour of being the first Kerryman to play in European club competition.
There are now just two games left to play in that career, the league final which Derek describes as the team’s ‘bread and butter’ and also something truly special – a shot at the Munster Junior Cup this Sunday, a competition no Kerry team has ever won before.
Continued below…
“The club was incredibly good to me when I was younger. They gave me a great platform to launch myself, so I always had it in my head to return home and help them,” said Derek, when we met him earlier this week.
O’Brien is a former winner of the ‘Galway United Player of The Year’. He was also picked alongside the best players in the domestic game when he was selected on ‘PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year in 2007.
Derek tasted European competition in 2008 by playing in a St Patrick’s Athletic side against a Hertha Berlin in the UEFA Cup.
This season, the Shanakill native has gone the extra mile for Dynamos, quite literally. He has been commuting from Galway, where he has two daughters and works in Elvery Sports.
“To be honest, people seem to make a bigger deal out of it than it is. I’m well used to travelling. I was playing in the League of Ireland for 15 years, which is basically like a Discover Ireland tour, so I’m well used to it. The travelling is helped if you have a great bunch of lads to play with,” he said.
Getting to the final, Dynamos beat Limerick City side, Janesboro, 3-1 away from home. It was a match they were not expected to win.
“We weren’t given much of chance, but we absolutely played them off the park. As a team I think we really came together that day,” he said.
After the final on Sunday, win or lose, Dynamos will have to focus immediately on the Denny Premier A league final against Castleisland, this will be Derek’s final game of his career. Whatever happens, there won’t be any sleepless nights with nerves.
“Some might see it as a blessing, but I never get excited about games until the day of the game. During the week I’m never that bothered. Unless I don’t get my night sleep before, then I get very cranky!”
Tralee Dynamos v Carrick United, Munster Junior Cup Final, Mounthawk Park, 2pm
Tralee Dynamos v Carrick United Munster Junior Cup Final, Mounthawk Park, Sunday 2pm
TRALEE Dynamos are on the verge of making history this Sunday when they play their first ever Munster Junior Cup final against Waterford side Carrick United.
Only once before has a Kerry team made the final of this prestigious competition, but despite the home draw, Dynamos, will be going in as underdogs.
They will relish the underdog tag, having already taken one or two notable scalps on the way to the final, which they have made despite only once being afforded the privilege of a home draw.
Story continued below…
Dynamos manager, Mark Fitzgerald, is looking forward to Sunday’s showdown, but is working to keep his players focused.
“It’s obviously a huge occasion for the club. There is a great buzz around the place, but ultimately this is just another game. All the buzz and excitement will mean nothing unless we can win it,” said Fitzgerald.
“This is the biggest moment for the club and also for a lot of the players. Some of the players have played in the League of Ireland and picked up Irish junior caps, but to play in a game with guys from your home club is a bit special,” he said.
In an great show of commitment, two of the side’s key-men have been commuting from outside the province for games at the weekend and have even attended training sessions.
Striker and native of Lithuania, Gintaras Paketuras, has been making the journey from Dublin while former Galway United player, Derek O’Brien has been travelling from Galway.
Dynamos captain, James Sugrue, is a man who has played in the League of Ireland and ran out for his country at under-age level.
Story continued below…
“I love playing with the club I grew up with. Being able to do this with your friends, it means a lot to me and it would really top off the season if we win on Sunday,” he said.
“I’m really looking forward to it, keeping players fresh now is the main thing, everyone is on a high at the moment,” said James Sugrue.
Another man with League of Ireland experience is Shane Guthrie, who was once on the books at Shamrock Rovers among others.
It has the making of a successful couple of weeks for Shane, who only last Sunday switched codes and starred in midfield for Austin Stacks in their county league final victory over Dr Crokes.
Guthrie will be at the heart of defence for Dynamos against Carrick United and will be relishing the chance to add a Munster Junior medal to the Munster Senior one he won with Limerick City in 2012.
“It was really nice to win with the Stacks and it would be great to add to that with Dynamos. But there is nothing done and dusted. We’re confident about Sunday, but not over confident. We still have to go out and beat them,” said Guthrie.
“It’s a massive game for me because this is with my buddies. I’d rather win this then anything I’ve ever won in soccer,” he said.
Dynamos, will need every advantage for this final and have already secured one of them with the home draw.
“Some people might say there is a bit more pressure playing at home, but it will be the same out on the pitch for both teams. It’s good because we can have all our family there and hopefully, if we win, we can all celebrate on the pitch together after the game,” said Guthrie.

REPORTS;
(U12) Div 2 ;
Park B 4-0 Tralee Dynamos B
It was sunny but cold and showery for the league derby between Park under 12 B and their next door neighbours Tralee Dynamos U12B.
The game got under way at 6.25 and it took Park 5 minutes to settle. When they did David (Tiny) Callaghan got the ball on the edge of the box and made a lovely pass to Matt Healy who opened the scoring with a lovely goal. After that Park were in control doing most of the attacking and just before 20 minutes Matt got the ball, passed it to TJ Heaphy who had been switched from his normal left back position to play on the wing and he fired a beautiful shot into the net. 5 minutes later saw a carbon copy, again Matt found TJ who blasted another into the net.
The second half started 3-0 and Park had all the play with some beautiful ball play and one twos, Adam Sheehy linking with Leon Daly on the right who both had excellent games. The same thing was going on on the left wing with Mark Brick and TJ, midfield linking the two wings with Robert Vasiu and Connor Brick. After 15 minutes of the second half Robert made a beautiful break through passing four defenders and playing a perfect pass to Tiny who stuck the ball in the net to make it 4-0. Tiny had been working hard all game. Central defenders Ryan Guerin and James Charles were excellent throughout the game.
The final score 4-0 means Park are league champions with one game left to play. No less than they deserve as each and every one of the 14 man squad have worked hard all season.
Congratulations to all players.
Once again I would like to say well done to all the squad; you deserve it for all the commitment you have shown over the season.
(U12) John Murphy Shield Final ; Park B 1-0 Killarney Celtic C
There were hurricane like conditions for the under 12 shield final at Camp community grounds between Park under 12 B and Killarney Celtic C. The game got under way at 11.10am.
It took both teams a while to settle and adjust to the conditions. When they did it was 50/50 for the first 15 minutes or so. After that some excellent play down the right starting with Adam Sheehy passing to Leon Daly who passed back to Adam, Adam gave it back to Leon with a lovely one two movement. Leon went round a defender and through another by slipping the ball between the defenders legs and made a perfect pass from just outside the box to Matt Healy waiting in the box and Matt stuck it in the net. The first half finished 1-0.
The rain eased a little for the second half and Park were in control for most of it. The one dangerous brake that Killarney got saw a wonderful save by keeper Huge Emmerson. All of Parks players were excellent, with a superb performance by TJ Heaphy who was outstanding at left back and played down the wing as well. Robert Vasiu got man of the match for his excellent performance in midfield alongside Connor Brick. Earnan Ferris played his part on the left wing and Ryan Guerin and James Charles were solid in defence. David Callaghan battled well up front. All over a great performance.
The final score 1-0 which meant Park did the double having won the league midweek.
Congratulations to all players including those on the bench, Danny Graney, Conal Clifford, Mark Brick and Liam Carmody.
(U13) John Joe Naughton Cup Final:
Park FC 4 – 0 Killorglin AFC
Mounthawk Park under lights, clear skies and a fine surface the scene was set for a memorable occasion with The Park Lads were hoping to improve on last season to take the inaugural John Joe Naughton Cup back to Christy Leahy Park. on the other hand it was the first cup final for this killorglin side who had came through a tough semi and were determined to go all the way. The legendary name on the Cup was enough to fire up any Park side and by God they played with grit and determination to take the Cup back home, some might say it was destiny!
The park lads started with purpose from the minute the whistle sounded and pressed forward at every occasion, Kevin, Junior and Colin took control in the middle third, with Mervin and Nathan raiding down the flanks. Killorglin were defending well though and with half chances from Mervin and Sean in the early minutes being blocked by a defensive blockade. It was all park pressure with the park lads passing and moving the ball with purpose and the raiding of the wingers finally unlocked the steely defensive on the 10th minute a fine movement on the right from Nathan to Junior in the middle who found Mervin on the left , a fine cross to Sean who smashed the ball to the net 1-0 up, immediately from the tip off the park lads pressed high up the pitch a ball back to Rhys saw him hit Mervin down the left wing who took the ball to the bye line to cross into Sean and with his left foot stroked the ball past the keeper,11 mins in 2-0 up, Colin unlucky not to fine the net with a fine strike that hit the cross bar with Nathan’s follow up diverted out for a corner.
This gave the Killorglin players heart and the next 10 mins had a purple patch coming close on a couple of occasion to be denied by fine saves from Gavin between the sticks for the the Park. Half time whistle 2-0 to the park.
A quick team talk and the park lads came out with a pep in their step and started to find their passing and move game again creating further half chances. Colin hitting the bar again, Liam came in for the injured Mervin to create another dimension, Nathan was on fir on the right side and 13 mins in the Park broke the hearts of the Killorglin side when Nathan hit Colin in the centre with a pinpoint pass for colin to drive a low shot to the net 3-0 up, The park management cleared the bench with Conor coming in for nathan, Armin for Kevin and Greg who was coming back from an injury, for Rhys. With fresh legs on the Pitch the park drove on and were the hungrier of the sides playing with confidence taking control of all sectors with the back four having little to do. Armin was showing great composure in the middle and with a fine pass to Colin who slid the ball thru to Sean, jinking past 2 players with a one on one with the keeper and a hatrick at stake there was only going to be one result as Sean hit the net with a fine left footed strike 4-0.
The final whistle and the Park were crowned Cup Winners!!
Well done to the Lads with a fine composed display of Total football, in the way it should be played.
The Park management would like to thank the Killorglin Squad and Management Team on a fine sporting game and kind comments at the final whistle it takes two good sides to make a great final and we wish them success in their league campaign.
Also many thanks to the Parents and home supporters who helped to cheer the lads over the winning line.
Next up is a mouth watering tie with Killarney Celtic in a battle to take the league to a playoff decider.
Players of Note: Gavin, Mervin, Kevin, Junior ,Cian, Rhys, Nathan
Man of the Match: A tough choice that couldn’t be split by the park management, Colin Walsh battled hard in the middle of the park with superb display of tackling, passing and forward movement which bagged him the third goal and an assist for the fourth. It was hard to look past Sean McGrath hitting a fine hatrick in his maiden final.
Squad on the Day:Gavin Doody, Kevin Goulding, Armin Heinrich, Junior Ankomah, Colin Walsh, Mervyn Shalemba, Nathan Gleeson, Liam Tobin, Sean McGrath, , Conor O’ Sullivan, Tide Osinubi, Rhys Keane, Darragh Moriarty, Cian Purcell, Greg Scanlon.
Reminder: Training times next couple of weeks will be Mon and Fri @ 7-8 pm. We have a crucial league title decider coming up so if the squad is to have further success to end this season, all players need to attend all training sessions!!

FORMER Tralee Dynamos and current Cork City star, Billy Dennehy, last night netted a second half hat-trick which took him 36 minutes to complete in a 4-1 victory over Drogheda United. (Video Below)
Dennehy was the leesiders saviour in Turners Cross on the night where they trailed at half-time 1-0 before the winger got the ball rolling with an exquisite free kick.
After Dennehy’s intervention, ten minutes later, another former Shamrock Rovers player, Karl Sheppard, put City 2-1 up.
The hat-trick was on with seven minutes remaining when, Dennehy, coolly slotted home a spot kick.
Then, in the final minute of extra-time, he claimed the match ball with a low shot just outside the box.
Speaking after the game, Dennehy was delighted with what he had achieved.
Continued below…
“It was my first hat-trick for City. I know a lot of the lads in the dressing room and to have their signatures on the ball is special,” he said.
This was Dennehy’s second hat-trick in the League of Ireland and the 17th by a Cork City player in the top division.
Billy and his brother Darren, have been mainstays for Cork City over the last two seasons and are household names in the League of Ireland.
The win helps Cork City keep the pressure on league leaders Dundalk, who sit four points adrift at the top with a game in hand.

A FORMER Tralee Dynamos goalkeeper has extended his professional contract with Forest Green Rovers in England.
Paul White, who has represented Ireland at under 18 level, has extended his contract at the Gloucestershire club for a third season after a promising campaign that saw him benefit from a spell spent out on loan at Gloucester City.
Since arriving at Forest Green in the summer of 2013, Paul White, has made one first team appearance for the club who play in the, Conference Premier, which is the fifth tier of English football.
Continued below…
The 20-year-old from Castleisland, who was previously on the books at Cork City, was delighted to sign a new deal at Forest Green.
“I’m extremely happy and proud to sign a new contract for next season and I’m thankful to the gaffer, Chairman and the club for showing faith in me,” said Paul White on the Forest Green website.
“I love playing for the club, love living in the area and love the atmosphere in the dressing room with all the lads, so once there was an offer, signing a new contract was a no brainer for me,” he said.
“I’m extremely confident in my abilities and feel that I’m close enough to being ready to impact the first team here in the way that I want.”
This season, Forest Green Rovers, finished fifth in the Conference Premier league which booked them a play-off spot for promotion to League Two. Unfortunately they fell short to Bristol Rovers, losing 3-0 on aggregate.

REPORTS; (U15) Premier ; Listowel Celtic A 3-1 Park Fc A ,
A very good start where we failed to convert some good chances, poor defensive work which gifted our opponents three goals and an improved second half performance were the Park story of this game. That’s not to take away from a fine Listowel Celtic performance but when the Park boys look back on this they will know it could have been so much better.
Thomas Burke had an early chance on a breakaway to put Park ahead but his attempt to chip the keeper went well wide. On ten minutes Matt Lukco’s fine attempt from the corner was cleared off the line and the game already had a sense of the inevitable about it.
The game was free flowing and open with some half chances at either end but it was Listowel Celtic who opened the scoring in the 28th minute. Thomas Burke lost possession on the halfway line, play quickly switched to the other side of the pitch and while Gearoid Fitzgerald saved the initial shot, Jack Sheehan was on gad to score from six yards. Ten minutes later Jake Kelly, as he usually does against Park, pounced when Park failed to deal with a corner to make it two nil at the break.
Padraig McCannon and JR Tshikota were both on for the Park now and doing well in centre midfield. It was JR, on his debut for the 15s, who, following good work by Niall Sertutxa and himself broke through the Celtic defence to coolly beat the keeper and reduce the deficit to one just seven minutes after the restart. A fine finish by JR.
Park played some really good soccer for the next 15 minutes or so but could not get the equaliser and it was Celtic’s greater hunger which prevailed in the end. Park were already crowned league champions and Listowel still had second place to cement and their desire to ensure that position was obvious. Niall Sertutxa’s fine headed effort which hit the post was the closest Park came to getting a second.
Michael Kennedy applied the coup de gras with 15 minutes remaining when he had a simple tap in after Park had gone to sleep at a Celtic throw in near the end line.
Three one probably wasn’t a fair reflection on the game but Listowel definitely deserved their win.
A disappointing end to our fantastic league campaign but we have learned many lessons from this game.
We must now get back in action and prepare well for our upcoming cup final against either Camp Juniors or Killarney Celtic. Neither would be worried about us having seen this game.
Our thanks to the Listowel Celtic team and management who, very sportingly, clapped us out onto the pitch as league champions. Great sign of the club and the young men who were going for their third league win in a row.
Thanks also to the parents for driving and the support on the night.
Panel: Gearoid Fitzgerald, Raul Vnczel, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Jake Deering, Michael O’Gara, Kevin Browne, Ruairi O’Kelly, Niall Sertutxa, Thomas Burke, Padraig McCannon, JR Tshikota and Junior Bio.

REPORTS;
(U15) Cup Semi Final ;
Park Fc 3-0 Castleisland Afc
Three quality goals, two from Dan Goggin and one from Michael Slattery helped Park progress to their second Kerry cup final in a row.
Having secured the league a week earlier one could have excused the Park lads for taking the foot off the pedal. But that would be to underestimate the dogged determination in this team. They always seem hungry for more.
Goals will always win games but special mention must go to the outstanding Park defence who were once again magnificent. Their challenge now is to repeat this performance in the final.
Starting well, and despite Castleisland pressing high up the pitch, Park created chance after chance. Michael Slattery hit the post after two minutes and also had two other chances saved well by the Castleisland keeper in the 25th And 27th minutes. The young Castleisland keeper also kept out Kevin Browne and Robin McCarthy in between Slattery’s attempts and looked to be in for one of those nights players only dream of. It wasn’t to be though and it was a superb Park team goal on thirty five minutes that eventually broke the deadlock.
Dylan Casey calmly picked out Sean Carmody in midfield and his perfect through ball to Michael O’Gara put the pacey winger in behind the Castleisland cover. He could have shot himself. Instead O’Gara steadied himself and showing maturity beyond his years unselfishly picked out the unmarked Dan Goggin who slotted his shot to the back of the Castleisland net. It gave the home side a lead they would never relinquish.
Eight minutes into the second half Goggin bagged his second. Again a good move. Kevin Browne’s fine ball to Slattery was followed by an equally fine ball to Dan Goggin who still had plenty to do when he received the ball on the left wing. Ducking and weaving like Katie Taylor in an Olympic final Goggin somehow stuck the ball into the Castleisland net from an awkward angle. His agility was mimicked on the sideline by his dad who was seen doing cartwheels and backflips and claiming all the credit for Dan’s prowess in front of goal.
Fair play to the Castleisland lads who never gave up. Shay Walsh and Ben Cooney in particular ran themselves to a standstill and the Castleisland back four stood strong in the face of constant pressure. They never resorted to foul means but gave their all for the cause. A credit to Georgie and his mentors.
Goggin could have sealed his hat trick but the Castleisland keeper again saved when a save looked unlikely. Kevin Browne then had a goal ruled out before, finally, Slattery stepped up to seal the deal with five minutes left to play. A typical run across the box and a strike worthy of winning the game flew into the top left hand corner of the Castleisland net and at last their resistance was broken.
3-0 was a fair reflection of the game but Park will know a similar performance won’t be enough against Camp or Killarney Celtic in the final. Both teams have caused Park plenty of problems in recent league games and in Genie Farrell, Kevin Boyle and Liam Shine they have experienced heads plotting Park’s downfall. It’s a game to look forward to, whoever we play.
Thank you to the parents, friends and club members who supported us on the night. Thanks also to the ref, Martin Courtney, who was firm and fair with both teams and let the game flow as much as he could.
We play Dynamos at home on Saturday in our final home league of the season at 4.15pm. Your support would be appreciated at that game and in the Cup final.
Panel: Thomas Burke, James Rusk, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Michael O’Gara, Raul Vnzcel, Sean Carmody, Kevin Browne, Dan Goggin, Ruairi O’Kelly, Niall Sertutxa, Robin McCarthy, Jake Deering & Michael Slattery .
(U15) Premier ; Park A 2-2 Tralee Dynamos A
With little more than local pride to play for, both teams served up a decent game for spectators at the Park last Saturday. Park were missing quite a few from their squad but it was probably the fact that this was their third game in ten days, along with all their other sporting activities, that lead to a very sluggish opening 20 minutes.
Sean Carmody came very close to opening the scoring in the fifth minute when his free from 30 yards out was just over the top but that was as good as it got for Park in the opening quarter. When Darragh Louth was brought down by Adam Ward ten minutes in, Kevin Williams stepped up to drive his penalty past stand in keeper Michael Slattery.
More pressure from Dynamos, and indifferent play from the Park, saw the Dynamos lads win a series of corners and frees which would eventually yield a dividend. Poor marking and commitment at the back post gave a Dynamos player loads of time to fire in their second and put them 2-0 up.
Were Park about to lose their unbeaten record in Kerry this season? Questions were certainly being asked.
Thomas Burke was beginning to settle down up front for the Park and it was one of his mazy dribbles and crosses which finally got the Park off the mark and back into the game. Eight minutes before the break he went on a run and fired in a cross which was diverted into his own net by the unlucky Williams.
Five minutes later a wonderful run and link up with Jake Deering saw James Rusk find himself with a real scoring opportunity but the Dynamos defence just scrambled the ball away as Rusk was about to pull the trigger.
All the pressure was coming from the Park boys now and eventually they got their reward.
Right on the stroke of half time, Dynamos failed to clear Adam Ward’s corner and after what seemed like an eternity Matt Lukco finally took charge of proceedings to slam home the equaliser.
That was to be the finish of the scoring but only heaven knows how. Chances at both ends that should have been converted, and good saves from both keepers, meant honours would be shared. Indeed the final action of the game saw a ball bobble around the Park area, hit players and the post and somehow stay out. A draw between these two good young sets of players was just reward for an entertaining afternoon’s soccer. One of the highlights of the second half was the performance of young Padraig McCannon who handled himself very well on his first competitive outing for the U-15s.
Afterwards Padraig Hartnett, secretary of the Kerry Schoolboys league was on hand to present a trophy to Kerry Premier League winning captain Michael Slattery.
Training resumes on Tuesday night in preparation for the Kerry Cup Final. Players to be there at 7.40pm
Panel vs Dynamos: Michael Slattery, Matt Lukco, Adam Ward, Sean Carmody, Jake Deering, Kevin Browne, Michael O’Gara, James Rusk, Ruairi O’Kelly, Thomas Burke, Niall Sertutxa and Padraig McCannon. Special thanks to Seb for providing cover in case of injuries.
(U15) ;Kerry Cup Shield Semi-Final , Killarney Athletic 2-3 Park B
On an overcast Saturday afternoon the game got under way with the Park making an attack from the start with Aaron running down the wing and takes a shot but the keeper puts it out for a corner which Conor O’Brien takes and Conor Higgins header is saved by the keeper. Dean puts a great cross into the box but Aaron’s shot goes wide once again, Park mount another attack Jack takes the ball forward and passes the ball to Shane who slots it through to Conor whose shot goes wide.
The game is well in the control of Park and they mount attack after attack but sees most of their shots going wide of the target ,Aaron slides in for a tackle and puts the ball out for a throw and is lucky not to be sent off. The Park defence John ,James , Jack and Dean are playing outstanding football clearing everything that is thrown at them and only for lady luck not being on their side they should be at least 3 goals up.James takes a free kick and Nemanja gets the ball but it is kicked out for a throw the ball comes in again but once again the shot goes wide. Killarney mount a rare attack and bring the ball down the field and gain a free kick outside the 18 yard box it goes high over the top of the Park players and bounces high over Park keeper David’s head into the back of the net 1-0 Killarney. Shane takes a shot but once again goes wide this concludes the first half.
Second half gets under way James takes a free kick which Conor puts through to Nemanja but again shot goes wide, Dean takes a throw to Josh who heads the ball on to Conor who shoots wide, another attack Jack brings the ball forward passes to Nemanja to Shane who slots the ball through to Aaron but his shot goes over the top of the crossbar. Dean takes a free kick and John flicks it on to Aaron who hits the crossbar, Dylan heads the ball down to Aaron who passes to John and then back to Aaron but the keeper saves his shot, Dylan gets the ball in midfield passes to John who rounds a player and passes to Aaron in the six yard box but once again the keeper saves ,nothing seems to be going right for Aaron who is getting plenty of ball in the penalty area but just can’t finish it off and leaves the Park trailing. Killarney mount another attack and bring the ball up the field flick the ball over the top of the oncoming keeper and slot it into the back of the net to make it 2-0. All though Park had most of the play they just could not put the ball in the net and now feel the game is slipping away from them but they keep advancing and James takes a free kick just outside the box it rebounds back out to him and he takes a shot and puts it in the back of the net 2-1.
Time is now slipping and Park get a corner and Conor O’Brien takes it and floats a lovely ball into the six yard box and John connects with a flying header into the back of the net to make it 2-2. Park now have their heads up and start to take the upper hand once again but shots from Conor, John and Aaron are all wide , Dylan heads wide from a corner , then John is brought down and a free kick taken sees Conor shoot wide of the target .Despite the amount of chances Park had and failed to connect, they made a brilliant comeback from 2 goals down and it was looking like extra time was on the cards they got a corner in the dying seconds of the game Conor takes it and floats it high into the six yard box and Shane jumps thrusts his head back and with full force heads the ball towards the goal low into the back of the net to make the final score Killarney 2 Park 3. This was a brilliant display and a great achievement by the Park players who despite being 2 goals down never gave up and were rewarded with a place in the final but for the lack of finishing it could have been a much higher score and a more comfortable win so great credit to all the players you deserve your victory.
Team ; David ,John ,Jack ,James ,Dean , Josh , Aaron , Shane ,Conor , Nemanja , Conor , Dylan , Mike , Jamal

(U13) John Joe Naughton Cup Semi- Final: Park FC 2 – 1 Ballyhar
The Park Lads hosted Ballyhar yesterday in the Kerry Cup Semi-Final, this was the second time the teams met in the past few days with the Park taking the win last Tuesday night in the league with a scoreline of 6-1 with Sean McGrath on fire scoring 5 with a man of the match performance.
With a final place was up for grabs nothing would be taken for granted bt the Park who were hoping to reach there 2nd consecutive Cup final and Ballyhar were looking to avenge their defeat earlier in the week, both ingredients would serve up for a tight affair, with the Park taking the spoils 2-1 in the end.
The park started brightly passing and moving the ball with good composure and dominated the middle third with Junior,Colin and Kevin controlling midfield.
Ballyhar were playing a defensive game with 5 at the back and trying to hit the Park on the break with the ball over the top from the back but to be fair to the Park central defence of Tide & Cian coped well clearing their lines with purpose, both full backs of Rhys and Darragh were covering well and raided down the flanks at every chance.
The first real chance came to Mervin who had switched with colin upfront, a fine ball thru the channels from junior in to Mervin’s feet saw him try to chip the keeper but it was too high and sailed over the bar.The park continued to dominate put failed to breakdown a resilient defence and the half ended up nil all.
With everything to play for and with slight wind at their back the park continued to press forward in the 2nd half and 5 mins in were rewarded with a nice cross from mervin on the right into Sean who jinked in front of goal and managed to squeeze the ball thru the visitors defenders just past the keeper inside the right post 1-0 up and the park were now pushing forward at every occasion looking for a second. 8 mins later and Sean became the provider with mervin taking on a short pass in front of goal and coolly side footed the ball to the right of the keeper, 2-0. Shortly after Nathan came in for Liam on the left to inject a bit of pace into the play as the Park looked to close out the tie and was unlucky not to score after latching onto another fine cross from mervin to see his point blank volley stopped by the keeper, an fine instinctive save.
2 mins later the visitors drew one back from a rare defensive error from the Park with Gavin only managingto parry the ball to the oncoming forward who slotted to the net. A tense final few mins for the park who battled hard as Ballyhar pushed forward for the equaliser.
The final whistle and to the delight of the Home support the Park Lads held on to reach their second successive Cup Final.
Well done lads hopefully we can one step further this season!
The Park management would like to thank the 2 new boys from the U12’s Jamie and Cian who came into the squad at short notice, unfortunately we weren’t able to get them game time due the tight nature of the game
Also many thanks to the home supporters who helped to cheer the lads on to victory and over the winning line.
Squad on the Day: Gavin Doody, Kevin Goulding, Armin Heinrich, Junior Ankomah, Colin Walsh, Mervyn Shalemba, Nathan Gleeson, Liam Tobin, Sean McGrath, , Conor O’ Sullivan, Tide Osinubi, Rhys Keane, Darragh Moriarty, Cian Purcell, Jamie Fitzgerald, Cian Brosnan, Greg Scanlon (Injured).
Reminder: Training times next will be Mon and Fri @ 7-8pm. We have some crucial league games coming up over the next couple of weeks and the Cup Final so if the squad is to have any success this season, all players need to attend all training sessions!!
(U11) Kerry Cup Semi-Final ;
Listowel A 2-2 Park A , Park won 5-4 on penalties .
Everyone that was at this game on Saturday morning saw two very evenly matched teams play for a place in the u11 Kerry Cup final. It was a big occasion for the boys as it was their first semi-final and there was certainly some nerves around. It’s never easy to reach a final and this proved to be the case again.
The first half started with Listowel on top, seeming to be first to each ball and when we did manage to get the ball we were losing possession a little too easily. It was important for the team to weather the early storm. Liam was doing really well in goals to keep the ball out and with Jack, Edward, Josh and Ben in front of him they were managing to keep things level. As the half wore on the Park boys started to get some control in midfield where Darragh, Conor and Cianan were being made to work really hard to try to get some ball into Colin up front. At this stage the game was nip and tuck and looked like it was going to go the distance. Sean came on in defence, Danny and David in midfield and Cillian up front. We still were struggling to get the upper hand and were limited to a couple of long range efforts on goal which their keeper did well to keep out. Listowel continued to be a threat.
Having got through the first half at 0-0 we were confident that the lads were going to be stronger in the 2nd half and so it proved to be. We started much better and started to create some chances. With about 10 minutes gone in the second half Colin cut in from the left and struck a shot into the top right corner of the net. One up and starting to play. A second goal came a few minutes later when the ball broke to Conor at the edge of the box and he hit it first time into the corner. 2-0 and things looking good. At this stage Listowel pushed everything forward trying to get back into the game and for the most part we were defending really well but starting to play deeper and deeper to see out to the final whistle. However, things were going to change and did so really quickly. Listowels first goal came from a breaking ball at the edge of the box which was hit through a sea of legs and into the goal, 2-1 and nerves appearing again. The lads regrouped and were nearly there. The last play of the game was a corner to Listowel which Liam did well to punch out but it fell to a Listowel foot and with the last kick of the game the ball hit the crossbar and bounced agonisingly over the line. 2-2 and we were going to Extra Time.
Injury Time and Penalties
The boys were understandably disappointed and we worried how they might react to what had just happened. We need not have worried. They battled really hard for the 10 minutes each way but no goal came to either side even though both sides went close. And so it was penalties.
The penalties were as nerve wreaking as the rest of the game had been. Having missed our first two penalties things weren’t looking positive but Liam had managed to save their first penalty. We scored our next three and Listowel scored two and missed one…..sudden death. Both teams scored their sixth penalty and when Cillian score the seventh the pressure was on the Listowel player who missed. We were through to the final.
Penalties are a really tough way to lose and while we are delighted to get through we also have a thought for Listowel who played very well in a sporting contest.

Camp community ground was the venue for the shield semi-final clash between Camp and Park under 12 B. It was a lovely dry sunny morning with a bit of a breeze. The game got under way at 10.40 with park going into attack from the start. After 3 minutes a lovely ball down the left wing was taken up by Earnan Ferris who played his way towards the box and made a lovely cross to find Matt Healy who stuck the ball in the back of the net, 0-1 in the fourth minute. The first half was dominated by Park with some nice play down both wings, however the half time score remained 0-1.
Camp were more settled in the second half and put up a good performance with 50/50 possession by both teams. Half way during the second half Camp took over for a while and it looked as though they would equalise but Ryan Guerin and TJ Heaphy were strong in defence and kept it at 0-1. With 10 minutes to go the ball broke and was picked up by David (Tiny) Callaghan inside the Camp half of the pitch, he ran at goal and shot hitting the bar, the rebound came back to him and his second shot hit the post, that rebound which came back to him again was put away third time to make it 0-2. That goal killed off Camp and the game ended 0-2. Park now go into the final against either Killarney or Killorglin. (U15) Premier ; Park A 2-1 Killarney Celtic A
A fine second half performance from the Park saw this bunch of players clinch their first league title at Christy Leahy Park on Tuesdayevening. As usual they gave their supporters a few heart stopping moments along the way but they throughly deserved what was their eight straight victory in the league. A nervous start from the Park boys led to a few chances going the way of Killarney Celtic. When Thomas Burke came for and failed to collect a ball into the box it required Dylan Casey’s clearance off the line for Park to remain on level terms. Michael Slattery was once again playing well and he tested Josh Fleming in the Celtic goal on a number of occasions in what wasn’t a memorable first half. Park stated the second half much better. Passing and moving more confidently they started to pile on the pressure. It paid off when Dylan Casey’s free kick was expertly flicked on by Gearoid Fitzgerald twelve minutes after the restart. When the ball hit the back of the net it brought relief all round and Park really started to play well. Robin McCarthy was causing problems for the Killarney back four and in the sixteenth minute he won a corner which was eventually cleared off the line just when it looked like Park would go two up. McCarthy was again involved four minutes later when he played a lovely ball to Michael Slattery on the Celtic endline. Back to goals and with defenders all around him, Slattery worked a little bit of magic to suddenly find himself one on one with the Killarney keeper and his right footed shot nestled in the corner of the net to give Park some breathing space. Cue an avalanche of chances for the Park to seal the win. Sean Carmody, Slattery, McCarthy, Dan Goggin and a number of other Park players had a cut at beating Celtic’s fine stand in keeper Gearoid Looney but failed to do so. With six minutes left on the clock Dylan Casey was bundled over the end line but a Killarney corner was awarded. From the resulting corner Gearoid Fitzgerald was adjudged to have pushed a Celtic player in the box and a penalty was given to Killarney. Ian McGillycuddy coolly slotted home the kick and once more it was back to the finger nails. Park dealt well with a number of corners and Matt Lukco made a number of outstanding tackles to ensure Celtic would not equalise. When Celtic’s last free was well held by Thomas Burke the referee finally blew the whistle to confirm Park as Premier league champions for 2015.
There was no trophy presented to the boys on the night, but the relief and joy on their faces was there for all to see. This bunch have been together since U-11 and mentors such as Kieran Ruttledge, Warren McDonald, Derek O’Connor and Eddie Wadding have all put time and effort into their development. Paudie Barrett is claiming though that it’s his return has made all the difference! Thank you to all the parents, friends, family and club members who were there and have been there all season to support this great bunch of young men. Now for the cup semi final against Castleisland in the coming week or two.
League Winning Panel: Thomas Burke, Kevin Browne, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Sean Carmody, Michael O’Gara, Dan Goggin, Gearoid Fitzgerald, Niall Sertutxa, Michael Slattery, Ruairi O’Kelly, Raul Vnczel, James Rusk, Jake Deering, Robin McCarthy, Jakub Zlotocki and Alfie Christie.(U17) Dominos Cup ; Park Fc 4-2 Castlegregory Celtic
Following a prolonged period of inactivity, Park were presented with a tough cup tie at home in Christy Leahy Park to Castlegregory on a sunny Wednesday evening last. The first quarter was a tight affair with Park having the majority of possession but with Celtic always dangerous from set-pieces. However, Park’s keeper, Patrick Kearney was masterful in his handling and the central defence of Ronan Duggan, Kevan Foley and Sean Tansley was very solid, giving wing-backs, Tomás Leen and Shane McGinley the freedom to push forward when Park had possession. The deadlock was finally broken on 32 minutes when Park forced a free kick about 25 yards out and Rory Kelly stepped up to hammer the ball past the visitor’s keeper. Park were nearly two goals up inside a minute when McGinley overlapped into space but his effort with the outside of the left boot just skimmed the post with the keeper stranded. It didn’t take long for Park to double their advantage however, when clever positional play between Eamonn Sheehy and John O’Brien saw the latter nod on a goal kick to the former and Sheehy then passed inside to Donagh O’Brien whose chip over the top found his namesake John steaming through the gap and he finished with aplomb. It was all Park at this stage and four minutes later, Donagh O’Brien pounced on a defenders mistake when he gained possession about 35 yards out. He still had a lot to do but the striker powered down the left and cut inside before slipping the ball into the far corner to leave it Park 3 Castlegregory 0 at the break. We were seven minutes into the second half when Park forced a corner and Donagh O’Brien’s delivery was met with a looping header from John O’Brien and the ball nestled in the Castlegregory net once more. The West Kerry lads never gave up but found Park’s skipper, Gary Howard in particularly combative mood as the game went on, with Rory Kelly also prominent in the aerial exchanges and Sheehy passing well on the floor. At 4-0 up, it was also a good time to give Matt Lukco his full debut at this level. He replaced Duggan who had been competitive and assured throughout and the youngster acquitted himself well. In fact it was only when Howard and Sheehy were replaced that Castlegregory gained a foothold in the game and to their credit they pulled two goals back before the finish as Park tired and lost their shape somewhat after the personnel changes. Nathan O’Leary and Darcy O’Sullivan also tried hard for Park after the long lay-off but hopefully we will now see regular games in the coming weeks with the quarter final of the cup and the league semi final due for decision. Park: Kearney, Leen, McGinley, Duggan, Tansley, Foley, Sheehy, Howard, Donagh O’Brien, John O’Brien, Kelly. O’Sullivan, Lukco, O’Leary, Ciaran Killeen

THE Stretford End Bar in Causeway was the venue for the meet and greet on Saturday afternoon with past Man United players, Lee Sharpe and David May.
The two 90’s stars were more than happy to chat with the United fans who gathered, offering them plenty of time to pick their brains about former glories and where the club was headed in the future.
Continued below…
Lee Sharpe, who was at United for eight years told us he was actually a Villa fan before he arrived in Manchester in the late 80’s and still has a soft spot for the Birmingham side.
Traleetoday.ie spoke with the former flying winger about United’s run in to this year’s season.
“A result against City will be important, but I think they’ll be comfortable enough to get a Champions League spot,” said Sharpe.
“I don’t think they’ll catch Chelsea. What we are looking for is to get back in the Champions League, if we can get second or third and not have to qualify, that will be a bonus,” Sharpe said.
“It was looking worrying before they beat Spurs and Liverpool. Now they’ve pulled away, but a loss against City and still having to play Chelsea and Arsenal could drag us back in there again,” he said.

REPORTS ; (Senior) Premier A ; Tralee Dynamos 0-3 St Brendans Park Fc ,
St Brendans Park Fc took all the honours and bragging rights today in the Tralee derby after a fantastic team performance against neighbours Tralee Dynamos . In truth the Park always look dangerous when they went at the Dynamos defence with pace especially with the on form Fergal Maunsel leading the line .
The Parks first chance came in the opening five minutes when Ryan Downey squared the ball to David Courtney whose first time shot from outside the box was only stopped by the crossbar with the keeper looking on helplessly . Jamie Kelly produced a full stretch save to tip the ball around the post to keep the game level minutes later . The Park took the lead just before the twenty minute mark when a Fergal Maunsel corner was powered home from the head of Martin Bowler .
The Park now began to hit their opponents on the break and it wasn’t long before the lead was doubled . Ryan Downey picked out the Run of Fergal Maunsel with a ball over the of the Dynamos defence and with his pace from just inside the half Fergal left three defenders trailing behind and superbly curled the ball into the far top corner passed the advancing keeper . Dynamos nearly pulled a goal back just before the break but again Jamie Kelly saved brilliantly as his tipped over from close range to send the Park in at half time ahead by two goals to nil .
The second half saw the Park sit back and easily soak up any pressure that was sent towards them and with players like David Courtney , Jesse o Sullivan and Mike Conway backing up Maunsel the Park always looked dangerous on the break . Martin Bowler nearly scored his second of the game but his glancing header was just over from a Ryan Downy corner . As the half wore on the Dynamos pushed more and more men forward but the back four of James o Sullivan , David Magee, Martin Bowler and Graham o Leary seemed to be very calm and handled any danger brilliantly . Martin Bowler denied a certain goal with a last ditch sliding tackle with fifteen minutes remaining .
On the very rare occasions that the Dynamos got in behind the Park defence they found Jamie Kelly in excellent form and with another save from close range in the final ten minutes he made sure of an excellent team clean sheet .
The final nail in the Dynamos coffin came with two remaining when David Courtney intercepted a ball out of the Dynamos defence and sent Fergal Maunsel through on goal . Maunsel’s shot was saved but Courtney followed up to send the rebound home . David’s goal celebration saw him remove his jersey and for this he received his second yellow card which was the only negative point from the game .
An all round team performance which must be very pleasing for the team management of Robert Powell and Peter Williams where everyone played their part including our two subs Scott Hennessey and Brendan Coffey who were introduced during the game . This win moves the Park into joint fourth in the league standings with eight games remaining . Team ; Jamie Kelly , James o Sullivan , David Magee , Martin Bowler , Graham o Leary , Jesse o Sullivan , Mark O Sullivan , Mike Conway , David Courtney , Ryan Downey , Fergal Maunsel . Subs , Scott Hennessey for Mark o Sullivan ( 26 mins ) , Brendan Coffey for Jesse o Sullivan ( 60 mins ) .
(U12) Shield ; Tralee Dynamos B 0-12 Park B ,
The 21st of March was like a beautiful summers day for the shield tie between Tralee Dynamos and Park under 12B derby at Dynamos ground. The game got under way just before noon. From the start Park were in attack with some beautiful football. After 5 minutes a kick out from the Dynamos keeper was intercepted by David (Tiny) Callaghan who put the ball in the back of the dynamos net to make it 0-1. Shortly after that a lovely corner by Robert Vassiu saw Earnan Ferris head the ball into the back of the net.
The game continued with lovely passing by the Park squad play one tow’s and when Robert took a free kick Matt Healy was there to make it 0-3. A little later TJ Heaphy playing left full back raced down the wing and crossed the ball to Robert who scored a lovely goal. Just before half time another wonderful cross from Robert saw Matt score his second, making it 0-5 at half time. The second half took up where the first left off, Danny Graney who was introduced at half time got on the end of a Leon Daly cross and scored after only being on the pitch for a minute.
At this stage Park had so much of the ball it was almost like the 4-4-2 formation had become a 2-4-4 with defenders TJ moving forward from left back to play on the wing and the right back doing the same, wingers were moving into striking positions and the two centre backs Ryan Guerin and James Charles were well able to defend any attacks mounted by Dynamos. Earnan had almost become a striker and took a lovely cross from Robert with his head and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Shortly after that Earnan was taken down in the penalty area and James took the penalty which he stuck into the corner of the net. 5 minutes later a loose ball in the penalty area was collected by Matt who tapped it into the net. With 10 minutes left Matt took a volley and blasted the back of the net making it his fourth of the game. Only 5 minutes to go and another splendid cross from Robert saw Danny score his second. After all his good work just before the final whistle Robert scored his second making the final score Dynamos 0 Park 12. The game was pleasure to watch, lovely flowing football and everybody having a great game. Earnan and Tiny narrowly missing some shots which just went wide. All players made a valuable contribution with outstanding performances from Robert, Earnan and TJ. Well done to all.

TWO first half goals were the launchpad for victory for St Brendan’s ParkFC in the ‘Tralee Classic’ against Dynamos on Sunday morning.
Park’s first goal came after twenty minutes when centre-half, Martin Bowler, headed in from a Fergal Maunsel corner.
After the goal, Park sat back looking to exploit Dynamos on the break, this tactic worked a treat because it wasn’t long before they had the ball in the net once more, this time from the boot of Fergal Maunsell.
Continued below…
Maunsell used his pace getting onto a fine ball over top from Ryan Downey burning the Dynamos defenders to coolly drive the ball home.
Tralee Dynamos tried in vain for the remainder of the half to create a clear cut chance, but the Park defence was in its house, comfortably dealing with their neighbors had to throw at them.
It didnt help either for Dynamos that when they did test the Park goal they found goalkeeper Jamie Kelly in good form also.
In the second half, the game was put to bed when David Courtney and Maunsell combined for Park’s third goal.
Courtney set Maunsell away and from Maunsell’s shot Courtney rebounded the ball to the net. It sparked celebrations that would later see Courtney booked for taking of his shirt.
So, bragging rights will go to Park from the latest instalment of one of Tralee’s greatest sporting rivalries.
The defeat means Dynamos spurn a chance to go top in Premier A, while Park move up into fourth.

REPORTS ; (U15) Premier , Mastergeeha 0-1 Park A ;
Another step in the journey for these young men as they continue their quest for their first league title. This trip to Mastergeeha turned out to be a good test for Park as they had to find a solution to unlock the defence of the organised and determined home outfit. The notes for this game read like it was a one v one for the majority of the contest. Niall Sertutxa for the Park vs. the outstanding young Mastergeeha keeper. Sertutxa had six different chances in the first half to put Park ahead but the crossbar, the keeper and a marginal offside kept the young Milltown man off the score sheet. Matt Lukco and Michael Slattery were others to test the keeper but as the teams departed for the half time break its safe to say Mastergeeha would have been the happier of the two sides. Park were playing some fine soccer and remaining patient but sometimes doubt starts to creep in when chances aren’t being converted. Not with this team. Superb defending from Matt Lukco, Dan Goggin, Adam Ward, James Rusk and the outstanding Dylan Casey meant that Thomas Burke was never under pressure in the Park goals. Michael Slattery was beginning to torment the Mastergeeha defence and it was his free kick in the 23rd minute of the second half which Sean Carmody knocked down to Dylan Casey for the opening and only score of the game. A poacher’s finish from an excellent gamekeeper. Casey then had a fine free kick parried by the keeper and the young Mastergeeha man was up bravely and quickly to save at the feet of the inrushing Sertutxa. Sertutxa had one final chance to kill off the game for the Park but a horrible bounce at the wrong time caused the ball to end up flying wide. It would gave been easy for Niall to get frustrated and throw the towel in when things weren’t going right for him but this man is made of sterner stuff. He continued to work hard for the team throughout, caused loads of problems for the Mastergeeha defence and never shirked the responsibility to take on a chance. He is on the cusp of bagging a hatful. Great to see Ruairi O’Kelly back in action and making a very impressive return after a long injury layoff. Overall a good game, plenty of good soccer and chances created from the Park but they will need to improve in front of goal. Thanks a million to Inîgo, Helen, Fiona, Aidan and Paudie for driving. Your help is much appreciated. We have been drawn away to Listowel Celtic in the cup and our three remaining fixtures in the league are away to Listowel Celtic and at home to Killarney Celtic and Tralee Dynamos. Panel: Thomas Burke, James Rusk, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Dan Goggin, Sean Carmody, Michael O’Gara, Michael Slattery, Jakub Zlotocki, Niall Sertutxa, Raul Vnczel and Ruairi O’Kelly. Gearoid, Kevin, Robin, Jake and Alfie were missing for a variety of reasons. (U15) Div 1 , Castleisland 7-1 Park B ;
It was a beautiful saturday afternoon for a game of soccer ,the game got under way with Castleisland making a early dash for the Park goalbut the shot on goal goes wide.The ball is kicked out by Aaron Jack tries to bring it under control but miss kicks it and the Castleisland forward takes advantage of this mistake and rounds the keeper to make it 1-0 Castleisland. Josh runs down the sidelineand slots the ball into Nemanja but his shot goes wide. Park get the ball out on the wing and with Edward under pressure he passes the ball back to his keeper but with the pitch being very soft the ball travelled very slow and the Castleisland forward made no mistake in putting it in the back of the net 2-0 Castleisland. Another attack sees Aaron make a save from the forwards shot,the ball goes up the field and John is brought down a free to Park which James takes but it was saved by the keeper.Dylan takes a goal kick but unfortunately he couldn’t get enough height on the ball and it fell to a Castleisland player who put it in the net 3-0. Conor has a shot on goal but the keeper saves ,Dean clears the ball to Shane he puts it through to Conor who passes to John but the keeper saves . Castleisland make another attack on Park’s goal and make it 4-0. Despite Park having a lot of the play they had a few shots on target but couldn’t find the back of the net. Another attack by Castleisland saw them bring their total to 5-0 then just before half time John is brought down in the penalty area and just when it looked like Park were going to get on the score sheet the keeper makes a great save . The second half gets under way Aaron kicks the ball to Mike who runs down the wing and passes to James who shoots and the keeper saves. Castleisland mount another attack and as Jack goes to clear it he slips over and the forward takes the ball and crosses it into one of his team mates who slots it into the net 6-0 . Aaron passes the ball out to Dean to Josh who passes into Nemanja he heads the ball to Conor but his shot is saved by the keeper Park on the attack again Sean puts the ball through to John who has his shot saved by the keeper. Castleisland get the ball again and run down the wing and pass it into the centre of the box and once again the forward hits the back of the net 7-0 Conor takes a corner and as the ball comes across the box Nemanja hits the ball but it hits the side netting..Park are having plenty of the play but are unable to find the net ,but just when it looked like they would end without a goal there was another attack by Park and after a few scuffles in the box and James managed to get a foot to it and make the final score 7-1. Despite the high score line it did not reflect the game and Park had a good majority of the play but they found it difficult on a very soft pitch to play to their recent form and maybe with a bit of luck they could have had another few goals but Castleisland were the stronger team on the day. Team ; Aaron ,Dean , James , Jack , Edward , John , Shane , Dylan ,Josh , Conor , Nemanja , Sean , Mike . (U13) Premier , Tralee Dynamos 2 – 4 Park FC ;
The park Lads were away to our neighbours Tralee Dynamos yesterday in a battle for top spot in the league, the Park needed a victory to keep their chances of being in the mix for the League honours. On the other hand Dynamos were also out to avenge a National Cup defeat to the Park earlier in the season, add in the local derby effect and it was bound to serve up a cracking game and by God that it did with the Park Lads just getting over the line in the end to take the bragging rights back to Christy Leahy Park. The Park started with great purpose and confidence with a sublime passing game cutting open the Dynamos defence at every break and should have been on the score sheet early on with chances from Mervin,Liam and Sean failing to hit the target. All the pressure was coming from the Park midfied and front men and it finally paid off, a through ball from colin to Sean who took it on to the left end line dragged the ball back out to the oncoming Junior who slotted it past the keeper for his first goal of the season, 1 nil up. The Park continued to pressurise from all flanks and thru the middle but failed to convert some gilt edged chances from play. It took a toe poke from Mervin in a goal mouth scramle from a Kevin G corner on the 25min mark for the Park to double their advantage 2 nil up, this seemed to break the spirit of the Dynamos players and 2 mins later a superb cross field ball was taken under control by Sean and drilled to the left of the keeper, 3-0 to the Park. The Park hitmen were now starting to find the target and a great save from the home keeper from a blistering strike from Mervin kept the scoreline to 3 at the break. They talk about a game of 2 halves and this was certainly one of them, the half time break seemed to disrupt the lads and the fine flowing play seem to vanish certainly after the a couple of mins into the half, the park created little and seemed to be playing with a nervousness, dynamos on the other hand came out with nothing to lose and started to pour on the pressure at midfield and upfront, to be fair the Park defence stoofd up well to the challenge but you felt a goal was on the cards, a mistake on the left side handed possession to the the home side and they duly punished the visitors 1-3 and Dynamos could sense a rival, on the 15 mins mark it was 2-3 and game on, the park lads continued to battle under the onslaught as the home side pressed forward for the equaliser, the Park hit on the counter with 8 mins left on the clock, colin chipping the keeper and the defence and keeper getting in a tangle to keep the ball from going over the line gave the park a 2 goal advantage again and this seemed to drain the spirit from the Dynamos lads. The final score 4-2 to the Park. An impressive 1st half display of total football by the lads that would have impressed “The Great Cruyff”, unfortunately the 2nd half proved to be a dog fight with the lads have to dig deep to take the result. The next match will be the Kerry Cup Quarter’s at home to Dingle Bay Rovers. Players of Note: Sean, Mervin, Kevin, Darra, Junior ,Tide, Rhys . Man of the Match was Colin Walsh, controlled midfield in the first half, great work rate particularly in 2nd half, superb defensive work. Squad on the Day:Gavin Doody, Kevin Goulding, Armin Heinrich, Junior Ankomah, Colin Walsh, Mervyn Shalemba, Nathan Gleeson, Liam Tobin, Sean McGrath, Greg Scanlon, Conor O’ Sullivan, Tide Osinubi, Rhys Keane, Darragh Moriarty, Cian Purcell (Injured). Reminder: Training times next will be Mon and Fri @ 7-8pm. For the continued success of the Squad, all players must attend all training sessions.

Listowel Celtic B 4-6 St Brendan’s Park B,
A cold and bitter morning but the Park were out to have a good game. First five minutes was slow both sides feeling there feet. The game was up and down the field, sixth minute we had a break with Daniel blasting the ball out of our defence and into the Listowel half for Mark to retrieve it and saw the Listowel keeper out of his area and lobbed the ball into goal 1-0. Park started to sleep and with a cracking strike from the Listowel no 10 placed the ball top of the net which nobody could have stopped 1-1. Both teams yet again up and down the field and with another shot just under the cross bar which Tennyson had no chance to stop yet again 2-1 to Listowel. (U12)Kerry Cup ,
Preliminary Round ; Mastergeeha A 3-1 Park B ,
Saturday morning was a cold and showery one for the first cup game of the season for Parks under 12 B team away to Mastergeeha. The game got off to a positive start for Park, playing against the wind and rain they had most of the possession and made most attacks in the opening 10 minutes. Then a break by Mastergeeha saw an attack on the Park goal, the keeper spilled the wet ball and it lingered on the goal line for what seemed like forever before being converted. 5 minutes later the same thing happened a break away saw Mastergeeha score again. Shortly after that Mastergeeha were awarded a soft penalty for a late chalange and it was converted. Half time score 3-0. After a team talk and two changes at half time Park started the second half with passion and had most of the play and made most attacks. With 12 minutes of the second half played Matt Healy scored a lovely goal, his seventh of the season and made it 3-1. Park continued to press and were unlucky not to score again with some shots just wide of the target. Man of the match was Ryan Guerin who was outstanding in defence. Final score Mastergeeha 3 Park 1. Park now go into the shield and Park C will play Mastergeeha in the second round.

REPORTS ; (U17) League ;
Iveragh Utd 1-3 Park Fc ,
After dropping two points to a late goal away to Killarney Athletic last time out, table-toppers St Brendan’s Park travelled to South Kerry in need of a victory to extend their lead to five points. On a glorious Spring day, the Tralee lads set out for Iveragh with a reduced panel – but what they lacked in numbers, they more than compensated for in character, determination and no little skill. With a last 18-minute blitzkrieg of their South Kerry opponents that will live long in the memory of this committed group of players and management, they eliminated a one-goal deficit to run out deserving victors. Park started with ace striker Donagh O’Brien between the sticks but took the game to Iveragh from the outset with Tomás Leen and Nathan O’Leary causing havoc down the right flank as they exploited the space left there by the Cahirciveen lads’ formation. Seán Tansley’s contribution was once again immense as he directed operations from his centre half berth, where he was complimented by his trusty lieutenants, the tough-tackling Ronan Duggan and Kevan (the Bomber) Foley, who was commanding in the air throughout. Shane McGinley continued his role as Mr Dependable by defending intelligently, using the ball well and getting forward when the opportunities arose. Skipper, Gary Howard was superb all game and while he has imitated the finishes of Steven Gerrard previously, he brought to mind the performances of another Merseyside legend, Graeme Souness, as he won tackle after tackle in central midfield and drove forward to support the attack once the occasion demanded it. It was also good to see Eamonn Sheehy starting to play his way back into form after another spell out through injury, but although John O’Brien gave his all for the cause, it was apparent that his usual razor-sharp edge was blunted by his recent absence from training due to the premature death of his grandmother (R.I.P.). Rory Kelly has been brilliant so far this season but has also understandably missed some sessions of late due to his mock exams for the Leaving Certificate and he needed to work hard to stay with the pace of the game during the first half in particular. Park dominated this half by playing good possession football, with Kelly, Howard, O’Leary and Leen all prominent but the final ball agonisingly failed to reach Sheehy and O’Brien on several occasions. Park’s defence was rock-solid during this period with rookie-keeper O’Brien mopping up anything that got past Tansley & Co. Park persisted with the same line-up on the resumption although the temptation to play the adroit Ciaran Killeen must have been great. The pattern of the game was unchanged from the opening half but this changed after 10 minutes when Iveragh won a free kick and with the Park defence dragged over to the near post, the delivery to the back stick was headed in unopposed by the inrushing striker from close range to make it Iveragh 1 Park 0. All was changed now, changed utterly and a terrible reality surely descended on the Tralee lads and their mentors. They did force a free kick on the edge of the opposition’s box but John O’Brien’s well placed effort brought a superb one-handed save from Iveragh’s keeper. However, for all their possession, passing and controlled free-flowing football, they had failed to really penetrate the South Kerry defence. It looked like their chances of reaching the league semi-final were about to disappear down the River Fertha along with their hopes, dreams and hard work of the past seven months, but desperate situations call for desperate measures – or is Plan B the answer? One thing was clear and that was a swift response was needed and Park reacted. Killeen was sprung from the bench to replace the tiring John O’Brien whose namesake Donagh was replaced in goal by Foley, with Donagh O’Brien taking over as leader of the attack. Kelly, whose goals per game ratio has risen hugely this year was pushed into attack to support O’Brien, with the mercurial Sheehy in the “no 10” role behind these two. Killeen slotted into midfield beside Howard and O’Leary as Park switched to 4-3-3 and chased the game with gusto. O’Brien started to peel off the central defenders into the left-hand channel and this paid dividends almost immediately when Howard passed to Sheehy who picked O’Brien out with an astute pass and his first touch took him away from the defender before he placed his left foot finish back across the keeper to bring Park level. Spurred on by their change of fortune, Park went for the jugular of the committed but tiring Iveragh side. McGinley, Killeen and Howard were now pulling the strings and O’Brien twice powered his way in behind the Cahirciveen lads and centered for Kelly, but the keeper made two blinding saves to keep the score level. Such sustained pressure had to tell however and Park finally got their reward when Kelly pulled the ball back to Killeen at the edge of the box and the diminutive wizard bent his shot into the far corner giving the heroic net-minder no chance. Iveragh 1 Park 2. Park were in no mood to give up their hard-won advantage on this occasion and inspired by Tansley “The Leader of the Back”, Howard dropped into defence as Park reverted to 3-5-2, with O’Leary now in central midfield. Old habits still die hard though and Park continued to keep the ball well and still attacked with intent. They got the reward their performance deserved when yet another attack saw the ball break to Kelly in the box and the powerful midfielder made no mistake this time to leave the final score at Iveragh Utd 1 St Brendan’s Park 3. Park: Donagh O’Brien, Leen, McGinley, Tansley, Duggan, Foley, O’Leary, Howard, John O’Brien, Sheehy, Kelly, Killeen. (U15) Kerry Cup, Last 16: Killarney Celtic C 0-9 Park Fc A ,
Goals from Jakub Zlotocki (2), Niall Sertutxa (2), Thomas Burke (2), Jake Deering, Gearoid Fitzgerald and Dan Goggin gave Park a good start to their Kerry Cup campaign. The young home side battled well and were only one down after 30 minutes. However Park’s Jake Deering then stole the show for the last ten minutes of the half. Having set up the first for Jakub Zlotocki after nine minutes, Deering gave yet another outstanding cross to set up Park’s second for Niall Sertutxa and then scored a superb goal himself. It was almost half time when he got on the end of a great ball from James Rusk and calmly finished the ball past Celtic’s good young keeper. When Zlotocki scored his second a minute into the second half it broke the brave resistance of the Killarney men. Thomas Burke, who played in goals in the first half, got the next two, one a superb free kick, the other a magnificent chip over the Celtic keeper and he then set up Gearoid Fitzgerald for a nice finish to make it seven. Dan Goggin showed his class with a tidy finish for number eight and Niall Sertutxa scored on the break to wrap up a convincing win. Well done to all the lads for a fine performance and keeping their concentration throughout. We were solid at the back and patient when it was needed. Well done also to the Killarney team and mentors for a very sporting game. Thank you to Iñigo, Tina, Anne and Fiona for driving today. As always parent’s help is much appreciated. Training on Tuesday at 7.40pm. Panel: Thomas Burke, Raul Vnczel, Matt Lukco, Kevin Browne, Adam Ward, James Rusk, Michael O’Gara, Jake Deering, Gearoid Fitzgerald, Niall Sertutxa, Jakub Zlotocki, Michael Slattery, Dan Goggin and Sean Carmody. Robin and Dylan were missing. (U15) Kerry Cup, Last 16 ; Park B 1-4 Tralee Dynamos A ,
On a lovely Saturday afternoon the game got underway with the Park making a run up the wing and the player being fouled, James takes the free kick and the ball comes in to Conor Higgins who puts it wide. This was a strong Dynamos team but Park were matching them man for man as they made a run down the wing Park keeper David Oba came running out from his box to make a strong tackle on the attacker and prevent them from Scoring. Jack gets the ball and runs through the middle and passes to Nemanja who takes a shot but it’s saved .Conor O’Brien gets a ball over the top and runs on to it and shoots puts it in the back of the net but is ruled offside. From a corner the ball lands in the six yard box and there is a couple of attempts till the ball comes to Aaron who puts it in the net despite shouts for offside to make it 1-0 Park. There were a few more attacks on the Dynamos goal one being a great cross by Nemanja which saw Conor O’Brien heading it wide of the post. Dynamos mounted another attack down the wing and the ball came across the goal mouth and as the player beat the oncoming keeper to put the ball in Jack came running in and cleared it off the goal line. with half time approaching the ball came into the Park box and the kick bounced up and hit John on the arm and a penalty was awarded, which David Oba made a brilliant save but unfortunately the penalty taker was on hand to put the rebound in the net 1-1. The second half gets under way and some end to end attacks with the Park defence Dean ,James Jack and John clearing ball after ball. The midfield playing their part in particular Shane who headed and kicked every ball that came to him puts a ball through to Jamal whose shot goes wide. Dynamos are now putting the pressure on the Park team and Dean runs across and puts the ball out for a corner which they take and the ball comes into the box and is headed into the net 1-2 Dynamos. Park clear ball after ball but as a loose ball is picked up in midfield they take it forward and put it in the net 1-3 Dynamos . In the dying minute a shot comes in and is deflected of Dylan’s leg and into his own net to make the final score 1-4 Dynamos. The score did not reflect the game and Park were on top for most of the first half and can take pride in the way the whole team played against a very strong Dynamos premier team and with a bit of luck it would have been a different story so well done lad’s. Team , David, James ,Jack, John, Aaron, Shane, Conor Higgins, Josh, Nemanja, Conor O’Brien, Dean, Jamal , Dylan, Edward, Mike . Shane Jordan was Man of the match . (U13) Kerry Cup, Last 16: Park FC A 9 – 0 Castleisland ,
The park Lads welcomed Castleisland in the Round 16 of the Kerry Cup, both sides met in the semi final last seaon with the Park winning that clash, so the visitors were looking to avenge that defeat, but again the Park Lads were too strong particularly in the second half to run out comfortablle winners. With a severe wind helping the visitors the park Lads were under pressure at the back, upto the first 15min period both teams had chances with Castleisland probably having the best of the exchanges and deserved to be atleast 2 goals to the good but to be fair to Gavin in goals he was up to the task and made some great saves to keep the sides level during this period. The 15min mark and the game started to change in favour of the Park, with the lads struggling to get their game going it took a fine strike from Sean from a pinpoint pass from mervin to open the scoring 1-0 up, 2 mins later Mervin hit the net with a great thru ball from Rhys on the left side of defence, 2-0 to the park. The Park sored their third with a long overlapping run from Nathan to finish at the nearpost. 3-0 at the break.With the wind at their back and a commanding lead the park lads took over in all sectors of the pitch, Liam came in for an injured mervin and started to link up well with the front men, 3 mins in and liams persitance paid off with a fine ball to Sean who dispathed to the corner, 4-0 up. 5 mins in and Junior made a penetrating run from the back to pick out Conor who sidefooted with the outside of the right boot to the roof of the net, 5-0 and the game was over a s a contest, 5mins later Sean linked up with Liam to fire into the back of the net to make it 6-0. Tide came on for Nathan at centrehalf to strengthen the defence, The goal of the tie came on the 17min mark with a fine sequence of is time passing on the left started from Rhys into conor onto colin, with Rhys receiving the return on the overlap whipping the ball across goal to Sean who sidefooted to the net for his hatrick. 2 mins later Kevin finished to an empty net after slipping passed the keeper after a good one two with Liam, Sean finshed the scoring on the final whistle to make it 9-0. A good 2nd half performance from the lads to got thru to the next round of the Kerry Cup. Players of Note: Colin, Gavin, Armin, Liam,Tide, Rhys, . Man of the Match: Sean Mc Grath, great work rate particularly in 2nd half, showed great movement & compose in front of goal. Kerry schoolboys/girls soccer league team of the week ;
Well done to Jack Twamley from St Brendans Park Fc U12’s who made the Kerry schoolboys/girls soccer league team of the week .
REPORTS (U14) Premier ;
Killarney Celtic A 2-1 Park Fc A ,
This game was a great advert for schoolboy soccer with the two top teams at this age category going head to head.Celtic shaded the first half possession with Park hitting them on the counter but both sides failed to test the keepers, scoreless at the break. Park made two changes at the break bringing in Poga McCannon and Mervin Shalamba and there was an immediate impact with both combining setting up Sean McGrath who rifled a unstoppable left foot volley into the roof of the Celtic goal from the edge of the area giving Park the lead seven minutes into the second half. Celtic were dangerous from set pieces and they equalized with fifteen minutes left on the clock from an in-swinging corner that looked to be knocked into the Park net by a Thierry Henry style hand ball that saw Park players angry with the referee. Park had a couple of good chances to snatch the lead back but were guilty of not converting at least one of chances. The last kick of the game saw Celtic pump a long free into the Park area that unfortunately came of a Park defender for an own goal and the spoils went to Celtic. Best for Park were Paddy O Rourke , James Rusk, JR Tshikato, Sean McGrath . Man of the Match was Conor Myers .
(U14) Div 2 ;
St Bernards 0-2 St Brendan’s Park B
It was going to be a hard game, as St Bernard’s being one of the top teams in our Division. We went out expecting a hard and good game, St Bernard’s beat us last time round 4-2. We had to win this game to get third in our division. We started the game with a great defence and also a good attacking force. The first half was exciting and a lot of passing and defending kept us at bay, St Bernard’s had a chance but the defence kept them out, Park also had a chance with Padraig and Mark on the attack and with a bicycle kick but the keeper saved the shot. half time result 0-0 . Second half , Park new that St Bernard’s were able to be beaten and with the guidance of there Coach they went out ready to win the game. St Bernard’s had tip, Park soon disposed St Bernard’s from the ball, Park mid-field kept the ball and Padraig passed the ball to tony on the left wing and with a nice pass to Mark in the box and placed the ball bottom right corner. Game wasn’t over St Bernard’s wasn’t giving up. They went on the attack again and again, they got through but if it wasn’t for Joe in goal saving a blinding shot would have been 1-1. A lot of up and down field play and then another attack From St Bernard’s and yet again a nearly goal but yet again Joe saved the shot to have a clean sheet for this game, but Park was in control. 6 minutes to go the ball was passed around by Park and Josh passed the ball to Carl (Cj) and Carl (Cj) passed the ball to Samson who took on the defence got through and with a mighty strike which nearly broke the net 2-0.With extra time St Bernard’s were on the attack but we kept them out. Full Time Score 2-0. Proud of you Boy’s . Man of the Match: Dylan O’Brian (Poshy) . Team: Joe Hanafin, Josh Hayes, Brian Teahan, Daniel Fok-Seang, Dylan O’Brien, Cillian Ryan, Samson Ayavi, Padraig White, Tony Duggan, Mark Dziedziuch, Jack Murphy, Carl (Cj) Dziedziuch and Tennyson Efgbare. Once again Well done lads.
(U12) Div 2 ;
Park B 4-0 Asdee Rovers ,
Once the game started Park were off to a flying start attacking from the whistle. Most of the play took place in the Asdee half and after 10 minutes in a crowded penalty area almost as in slow motion Leon Daly got his foot to the ball and stuck it in the Asdee net. Park were playing very well with some well put together passes and using both wingers Leon Daly and Earnan Ferris who had excellent games and sent plenty of crosses into the box one of which was converted by David (Tiny) Callaghan. Half time saw park go in 2-0. The second half continued on where the first half left off with Park having most of the play. Half way through the half Tiny again won the ball and put it in the Asdee net to make it Tiny 2, Park 3. Asdee had some good attacking play after that but the two central defenders Ryan Guerin and James Charles were unpassable. The one time Asdee did break through the defence and were on target for a goal a magnificent save by keeper Huge Emmerson kept Parks sheet clean. A beautiful break through by Matt Healy saw a marvellous shot on goal saved by the Asdee keeper, shortly after a carbon copy saw Matts attempt saved again. 5 minutes later Tiny attacked and scored his hat trick to make it 4-0. Just after that Matt again sent in a smashing shot only to see it hit the upright. Matt just wasn’t destined to score but could as easily had a hat trick. Over all good play saw the game end 4-0 to Park. Well played everyone .

REPORTS ;
(U13) SFAI Cup Last 32:
Middleton FC 1 – 5 Park FC ,
The park Lads travelled to East Cork yesterday to take on Middleton Fc for a chance to go a step further in an unbelieveable journey to reach the last 16 of the National Cup and bye God they done it in style with a superb determined display.
1st half , With a severe wind blowing diagonally across the pitch coupled with the fact that both teams had never reached this stage of the competion previously, a tense nervous opening few minutes was to be expected.
The Park started the quicker creating a few half chances through Sean and Nathan but didnt really trouble the keeper too much, the first 10mins was dominated by the Park lads but the home team started to take over at this point putting the back four of Rhys, Kevin,Tide and Darra under pressure but to be fair they coped well with Tide in central defence marshalling the No11 their main threat upfront.
But against the run of play the park broke out on the counter down the left with mervin taking the ball into the box, with a whipping pass across the face of goal Nathan took the ball under and drove it to the right of the keeper, 1 nil up on the 18min mark.
The lads started to take the initiative back but were dealt a sucker punch 5 mins later when the homeside drew level from a set piece.
From the tip off the Park showed true character to hit back straight away a through ball from Colin to Sean, one on one with the keeper there was going to be only one winner, 2-1 up and he could have got a second but for the bravery of the Midleton keeper who dived to steal the ball from his feet
Mervin finished the half with a fine looping strike from the edge of the box that was unluckly to nestle on top of the net after beating the keeper. 1-2 to the Park at the break.
2nd Half
Mervin switched with Sean upfront, the park started with a steely determination with the centre midfield pairing of Junior and Colin taking control of the middle third, Liam and Nathan were harassing down both flanks and their hard work paid dividends.
6 mins into the half another sublime pass from Colin found mervin coming in from the left side and with a super strike with his weaker foot beating the keeper at the far post, 3 – 1 up and confidence was high for the park.
Over the next 10 min period it was very even with both teams creating chances, the Park relied on their steely defence, steady keeping from Gavin and an odd bit of luck at times to hold onto a 2 coal defect.
Armin, Cian, Conor and Greg came on from the bench and with fresh legs started to inject a bit of life back into the Park, 27 mins in and the tie was over as a contest as Mervin scored his second after a lonng run from midfield thru on the right loping the keeper, the ball held up in the wind but managed to scrape over the line, 4- 1 up,
The park were in command and with the Midleton players heads dropping mervin became the provider pulling the ball back across the box to Kevin who had moved into midfield and with a belter of a shot he shook the net, 5-1 to the Park with the final whistle blown shortly after to a rapturous applause from the travelling supporters.
This was one of the best squad performances this season, all players battled hard and gave 100% which was all that the management team had required. Sadly Jordan couldnt get over a niggling injury and was unable to play, lets hope he makes a speedy recovery for our next game.
Many thanks to all the parents and supporters that made the long journey to cheer the lads over the line. A special thanks to our hosts Midleton FCfor a sporting game and their hospitality afterwards, we wish them success in their league and cup campaigns .
Players of Note: Colin,Sean, Nathan, Mervin, Kevin, Liam, Rhys .Man of the Match:Tide Osinubi, a fine composed display in centre back, marshalling their main talisman upfront to keep him scoreless, tackled and cleared his lines superbly.
Squad on the Day:Gavin Doody, Cian Purcell, Kevin Goulding, Armin Heinrich, Junior Ankomah, Colin Walsh, Mervyn Shalemba, Nathan Gleeson, Liam Tobin, Sean McGrath, Greg Scanlon, Conor O’ Sullivan, Tide Osinubi, Darragh Moriarty, Jordan Mason, Rhys Keane.
Reminder:Training times Mon & Fri @ 7-8pm. For the continued success of the squad all players must attend training.Well Done Lads!!! into the last 16 with a home tie against Leixlip Utd, Bring it on!!
(U15) Premier ; Park Fc 2-1 Camp Utd
,
Park came out on top of a scrappy, wind dominated encounter to go 5 points clear at the top of the Premier division.
In what was a pretty forgettable first half Camp and Franz in particular, caused plenty of problems for the Park boys and had the best effort of the half when a well struck shot from David’s hit the top of the crossbar. Michael Slattery and Sean Carmody had attempts on goal for Park but ultimately 0-0 at halftime was about as much as they deserved.
Park started the second half much brighter and opened the scoring after 10 minutes following a wonderful passing movement from one end of the pitch to the other. Dylan Casey passed the ball out to James Rusk on the right. He gave it to Dan Goggin who gave an excellent ball to Gearoid Fitzgerald.
He in turn fed Robin McCarthy whose finish to the bottom corner of the net capped off a fine team goal. 14 minutes later, Park were two up. Gearoid Fitzgerald pounced on a Camp defensive mistake to lay on a simple tap in for Robin McCarthy’s second goal of the day. Straight from the kick off Davidos did what he had threatened to do earlier.
The ball was passed back to him and from 5 yards inside his own half, with the help of a strong wind, he unleashed a ferocious drive which just went in over the outstretched hands of Thomas Burke. Park were stunned but reorganised themselves well to just keep Camp at bay. Kevin Browne came on with 15 minutes to go and his vital, brave block two minutes from time ensured the three points for his team.
On a difficult day for good soccer, Dylan Casey at the back and Robin McCarthy upfront were the stand out performers for the Park but the determination of all the players to ensure they didn’t drop points was fantastic. They could have dropped their heads when things weren’t going their way.
To their credit they don’t do that and they came away from a difficult encounter with the result they deserved. Well done to the Camp players and management for a very sporting game. Our best wishes to Niall and Jakub who missed the game through illness and injury. We look forward to having them and Ruairi back soon.
Panel: Thomas Burke, Adam Ward, James Rusk, Dylan Casey, Matt Lukco, Sean Carmody, Michael O’Gara, Michael Slattery, Dan Goggin, Gearoid Fitzgerald, Robin McCarthy, Kevin Browne, Jake Deering and Raul Vnczel .
(U15) Div 1 ;
Park Fc B 3-2 Killorglin Afc A ,
On a cold windy morning the game got under way with Dylan O’Shea running through puts a ball into Conor Higgins who passes to Nemanja who is tackled and ball goes out for a throw .Park pressed again against the wind and Conor Higgins puts a lovely ball through to Conor O’Brien but the ball goes wide for a goal kick.
Killorglin get a free kick about five yards outside the box but the ball drops in front of the keeper and he is unable to get a hand to it and the Killorglin player seizes the opportunity and puts it in the back of the net to make it 0-1. Park come back on the attack and the keeper makes a save from Conor Higgins.
In another attack sees Dylan O’Shea take the ball down the wing and cross it in to Conor Higgins who shoots and the ball goes high over the hands of the keeper 1-1. the game progressed from end to end with the Park defenders Dean ,James John and Jack clearing everything that came their way .
Aaron makes a great save from the Killorglin forward and puts the ball out for a corner. Dylan puts a ball through to Conor Higgins who slips the ball through to Conor O’Brien but his shot is saved by the keeper .
Another attack by the Park sees Dean put the ball through to Nemanja who slips the ball across the goal to Conor O’Brien who strikes it first time with his left foot into the back of the net to make it 2-1 the Park just before half time.
Second half gets under way with the Park on the attack Nemanja puts a ball to Jamal who’s shot is saved by the keeper .Josh puts a ball through to Nemanja but his shot is put out for a corner which Conor takes and Shane’s header is cleared off the line ,the ball is then put back in and Shane passes to Conor who puts the ball over the bar.
James takes a free kick outside the box and the keeper makes a good save. The ball comes into the Park penalty area and Dylan tackles the player but the referee gives a penalty , the Killorglin player steps up to take it and Aaron makes a brilliant save and the ball comes back out and once again Aaron makes a great save to deny Killorglin an equalizer.
Park are now in control of the game and their defenders are clearing everything James takes another free kick and once again their keeper makes a save the ball is then kicked out high over the heads of the Park players and the forward runs through and manages to put it passed Aaron into the net to make it 2-2
Although Park had most of the possession in the second half they did not take advantage of the wind and could have had another couple of goals if they had. Josh puts the ball through to Conor who crosses it into Shane who shoots but the keeper puts it out for a corner. With time nearly up and a draw looking on the cards Conor takes a corner and there is a scramble in the box with Killorglin trying to clear their lines but the ball falls to Jack and with a powerful left footed shot hits the back of the net to make the final score 3-2 the Park.
This was a brilliant team performance against a strong Killorglin A team, and for the most we played as a strong unit passing and clearing the ball first time and every player played his part in the game which gave us the result we deserved.
Team ; Aaron, Jack, James , John, Dean, Shane, Dylan, Josh, Conor, Nemanja, Conor, Edward, Dylan, Jamel . Goal scorers, Conor Higgins, Conor O’Brien, Jack O’Donoghue . M.O.M Dean Scanlon.
(U12) Div 2 ; Park B 0-0 Park C ,
It was a beautiful sunny morning in Tralee for the game between Park under 12 B and C. The game got off to an equal start with both teams making good moves and playing well. The last encounter between these two saw the B team win 5-0.
This time the C team surprised the B’s with some good attacks but Ryan Guerin and James Charles were powerful in defence. Two lovely attempts on goal by the Cs were brilliantly stopped on the line by TJ Heaphy.
At the break it was 0-0. The second half was a different story with the B team dominating play. There were several attacks mounted at the C goal but the C keeper Tadhg was excellent and the B’s couldn’t find a way past him.
The game ended with a share of the points 0-0. There were excellent performances from both wingers Earnan Ferris on the left and Leon Daly on the right. This was the first game of the season that the B team didn’t take all points. Well done both teams . How the 16s did not come away with at least a point last weekend is a mystery. A fabulous performance against a good team ended in a 2-1 loss for us. We started with Ciaran Carmody in goal (for the injured Brian O’Regan) but after 20 mins it was apparent that Sean Donnellan in midfield had a leg injury and the two switched positions. The first half was even enough with both teams having their periods of domination.
It was 1 all at the half, our scorer being Christopher Murphy having being put through by Conor Lowe. The Ballyhar goal came after we failed to clear properly from a corner. Ballyhar forced a number of corners at the start of the second half and like the first half they scored again from one of these. After this our lads took over the game and we forced many chances but failed to convert.
Cormac O’Brien and Conor Lowe both hit the bar with geat efforts and there were many melees in their box but the ball never fell kindly for us to score. We got in behind their defence on numerous occasions but the ensuing crosses either went wide or were cleared by a game Ballyhar defence. This is a part of the game we will have to improve in training.
The last kick of the game fell to man of the match Ciaran Murray but his shot was inches wide. So a 2-1 defeat but we can be happy that the team is progressing well. Well done to the lads who all gave their best.
On a wet Saturday morning in Fenit our under 13 team displayed a very impressive performance against a strong Castleisland side. It was not only the scoreline which impressed but the manner and style of play by the Fenit players was at times a joy to watch. This was shown by numerous of the fenit goals being scored after some beautiful passages of play often containing 10-20 passes.
Goals by Johnathan trent 2, Eddie Mccarthy 2, Oisin Horgan and Dara Heim sealed the win for fenit with Castleisland replying with two very well worked goals. On a day where all players performed excellently best players for Fenit were Conor gaynor, Dara Heim and Johnathan Trent.
U17s: Fenit Samphires 3 Mastergeeha 3
The 17s played Mastergeeha in Fenit last weekend in a league fixture. The pitch was wet after the recent bad weather and it cut up a bit as the match went on but both sets of players made light of the conditions. We decided to play five in midfield initially as we found ourselves 6 nil down at half time in the corresponding away fixture earlier in the season. Bobby O Regan, Jack McCarthy and Thomas Lenihan in the centre provided a platform for us throughout and probably dominated overall.
The pattern of the match quickly established itself as Mastergeeha went the direct route and we tried to play through the middle third. Mastergeeha as we know, are quite dangerous when given any bit of space so the plan was to deny this. Cormac O Brien at left back had to retire with a knee injury after 15 minutes and we replaced him with new signing Kieran Dwyer.
We took the lead after 20 minutes after a period of attacking pressure by us yielded a fortuitous penalty which Bobby converted. The game evened up for a bit but our bigger opponents forced a number of corners and from one of these they scored with a shot after we had only half cleared. We went ahead again when Oisin was taken down after one of his slalom runs into the box.
Bobby again converted the penalty. 2-1 at the half. 2nd Half – In the second half Oisin O Brien and John Dillane on the wings particularly dangerous for us on the counter attack and created chances but we failed to convert. Sean Higgins up front was getting on to a lot of ball in very testing conditions and recycled well to bring his midfield into the game.
Again as if the first half was repeating itself, Mastergeeha forced another series of corners and scored with a header as we conceded space near the goal far too easily… and once again we pushed on and scored from a corner ourselves through Thomas after the ball was knocked on at the near post by Jack. Samphires had more of the play from here on but didn’t manage to add to the lead and unfortunately conceded from an innocuous effort from the wing.
The flight of the ball slightly eluded keeper Brian O’Regan but it was enough to squirm it’s way into the net. Brian won’t have been too happy about it but he recovered well for the rest of the match.
The other defenders Darren Chester, Antoin Stanton and Sean Donnellan can be happy with their performances as we didn’t give up too many chances against a potent forward line. With 25 to go, Christopher Murphy came on up front and saw a lot of ball against much bigger defenders. We continued to press for the last 15 minutes but just couldn’t beat a very good keeper and it finished 3 all. Well done to all for serving up such a good game

REPORTS
(Senior) Premier A ; Park Fc 3-4 Listowel Celtic ,
Listowel went ahead on 7 minutes when Mark o Sullivan passed it straight across the box to Brian Murphy and he tapped it in. We missed a penalty through David Magee before Sean Dukes scored a minute to go in the half.
Listowel got a penalty when Mark o Sullivan clattered into some one in the box. Paudie Quinn had it save from James Kelly with a good save low to his right. Then from the resulting corner we broke and Gearoid Savage hit the post and James o Sullivan smashed it in that was our two full back hitting them on the break.
From 2-1 they went up 4-2 with all goals coming from set plays .Fergal Maunsell pulled it back to 4-3 and we nearly equalised when a Maunsell corner was cleared off the line but it wasn’t to be.
All in all when you combine sloppy defending and missed chances you are putting yourself at a serious disadvantage. Team ; Jamie Kelly , James o Sullivan , Gearoid Savage , David Magee , Mark o Sullivan , Graham o Leary , Sean Dukes , David Rodgers , Fergal Maunsell , Michael Conway , Jesse o Sullivan . Subs Used David Courtney , Ferdia o Brien .
(Youths) FAI Youth Cup ; Granagh Utd 2-3 Park Fc ,
We advance to the last 16 of the FAI Youth Cup after a tough win away against Granagh United in Askeaton.
After having the worst possible start in which we conceded after 15 seconds we regrouped and slowly began to do dominate the possession . We were back level after 13 minutes when a great run on the left wing by Ryan Dolan saw his shot across the face of the goals parried out by the keeper where Gareth Hickey Brosnan reacted quickest to drill the ball home . From here on we had the better chance to take the lead . Paddy Collins saw his well hit drive from distance brilliantly saved as it looked destined for the top corner .
Gareth Hickey Brosnan was next to go close but his shot was again saved by the keeper which he finger tipped over the bar . Ferdia o Brien finally beat the keeper just before the break but saw his shot hit the bottom of the post before being cleared to safety .
The second half saw us again on top of the possession stakes with the home side looking to hit us on the counter attack who were using their fast paced players very effectively . We took the lead after 67 minutes when after a good passage of possession Paddy Collins curled the ball into the far top corner from out side the penalty area giving the keeper no chance .
Our lead didn’t last long and it was level within four minutes after we lost the ball around midfield with too many players looking to get forward and we were caught on the counter attack and the tall Granagh striker made no mistake with an excellent finish .
The remainder of the game was very nervy with neither side wanting to lose it but he best chance fell to Sean Dukes whose volley from six yards out cannoned back of the crossbar . So to extra time the game went and neither side created any clear chances in the opening ten minutes . But in injury time the Granagh keeper went to throw the ball out but it slipped from his grasped , he dived onto the ball just outside the penalty area when the referee awarded a direct free kick . Ferdia o Brien stepped up and fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner to give us the lead at the break .
The second half saw Granagh throw everything at us but we controlled the game and out shape to see out the game . Granagh did have one final chance in the last minute when they sent a long free kick into the box which they flicked towards goal but Conor Hurley reacted quickly to save and see us into the next round .
Man of the Match was Gareth Hickey Brosnan who never stopped going for the 110 minutes of the game helping out all over the pitch when he was needed .
Team; Conor Hurley , Aaron o Keefe , Segun Duyile , Jamie Clifford , Tommy Lynch , Ryan Dolan , Paddy Collins , Emmanuel Abubakar , Ferdia o Brien , Sean Dukes , Gareth Hickey Brosnan .
(U15) Premier ; Park A 4-0 Listowel Celtic A,
A fine performance from our lads saw them go back to the top of the table with a good win over a strong Listowel Celtic side.
Listowel were missing some important players and were unlucky to end up losing by four but there was no questioning the quality of the Park performance. Park started well and some of the passing and movement was a joy to watch. Michael O’Gara was playing superbly on the right wing while on the opposite side Dan Goggin was causing Celtic plenty of problems.
Although Park pretty much owned the ball for the first 15 minutes they just couldn’t make it count and Listowel were looking dangerous on the break. However after forcing their third corner in the 18th minute James Rusk delivered a superb cross to the head of Seán Carmody for the opener. Listowel continued to work hard but the Park back four were outstanding and Michael Slattery was having a fine game along side Seán Carmody in the middle.
Upfront the hardworking duo of Robin McCarthy and Niall Sertutxa were pressing for scores but just couldn’t get that second goal. Right on the stroke of half time it came. Sean Carmody put an unstoppable left foot drive past the Listowel keeper from the edge of the box following excellent work by Dan Goggin and Niall Sertutxa. Two nil at half time was probably a fair reflection of how the game had gone. Niall Sertutxa more or less put the game to bed with a fine goal two minutes into the second half.
Great build up play from Dylan Casey, Adam Ward and Dan Goggin set Michael Slattery free on the left wing and his fine cross was finished off by the inrushing Sertutxa. Listowel to their credit never gave up but they were caught on the break when Adam Ward cleared a cross to Dan Goggin who in turn fed Robin McCarthy. McCarthy in his first game for some time showed outstanding footwork to set up Niall Sertutxa for his second and Park’s fourth. Dylan Casey had an earlier score unluckily ruled out side this score was deserved.
Thomas Burke made a fine debut in goals and handled anything that came his way with confidence and assurance which was just as well as Celtic really pressed hard for a score in the final quarter. Matt Lukco’s head repeatedly repelled Listowel corners during that spell in what was his best game of the year to date.
Raul Vnczel, Gearoid Fitzgerald and Jake Deering all came on and did well. An impressive performance but a long way to go yet in this league.
Panel, Thomas Burke, James Rusk, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Seán Carmody, Michael O’Gara, Michael Slattery, Dan Goggin, Robin McCarthy, Niall Sertutxa, Raul Vnczel, Jake Deering and Gearoid Fitzgerald. Kevin and Jakub were missing. Training Tuesday night at 7.40pm . Thanks to Liam Goggin for his help and to our supporters who braved the elements.
(U15) Div 1; Killarney Athletic 1-2 Park B
The game got underway in Killarney with the Park making a quick dash on goal a nice ball slipped through from Conor Higgins to Conor Morrison who put it in the net but the referee blew offside , this was a good start to build our confidence on the back of our recent defeats .Park kept up the pressure with attack after attack a shot by David going just wide of the goal, and a nice back heel flick from Shane to Conor which was put out for a corner.
Killarney came close to scoring from a free kick which was headed wide. Then with another attack saw Jack make a brilliant clearance of the goal line to deny them from taking the lead. Dylan has to reach at full stretch to parry the ball out for a corner. Another attack on the Killarney goal sees Conor M bring the ball forward and slip it through to Aaron whose shot slots into the left hand corner of the net past the keeper 0-1 Park on 33 minutes.
Park were taking control of the game with their defence Jack, James ,Edward and David clearing everything that came their way. Second half gets under way a free kick from James goes into the box but unluckily hits Conor on the knee and goes wide .Park are playing some nice football now and keep control of the game Nemanja runs down the wing with the ball runs across and puts the ball into box and David heads into the net but referee says the ball had gone out over end line.
The game flowed from end to end and then with a ball crossed over from the wing into the box saw Killarney put it in the back of the net 1-1. with time starting to run out it looked like a draw was on the cards but Park dug deep and with a final burst from Nemanja who slipped the ball through to Conor in the box who then twisted and turned before passing the ball to John who slipped it past the keeper to make the final score 1-2 Park.
This was a great result for us against a strong Killarney A team and a great performance by all the team who gave 100% .Team. Dylan, Jack, James, Shane, Josh, Dean, Mike, David, Darragh, John, Conor Higgins, Edward, Conor Morrison, Nemanja, Aaron …… M.O.M Jack O’ Donoghue.
(U11) Group 1 ; Park Fc A 1-4 Kilorglin Afc A
A very cold crisp afternoon in Killorglin was the setting for our first game after almost a month off from games. The break seemed to tell as the Park were slow out of the blocks against a very determined and hungry Killorglin A side who seemed first to every ball in the early stages of the game. This seemed to throw the Park players off their stride as they are normally the team setting the pace of play but not on this occasion.
We started the half with Liam in goal with a back four consisting of Darragh, Jack, Edward and Fiachra. In midfield we had Danny, Josh and Cianan trying really hard to get a foothold in the game with Colin up front. It was no real surprise when the first goal of the game went the way of the home side. After some sustained pressure from Killorglin the ball broke to one of their midfielders on the edge of the box and he struck a piledriver to the roof of the net. Killorglin 1 – Park 0. This seemed to shake some of the cobwebs off and we started to play some better football.
With Killorglin playing really deep and their goalkeeper in fine form it was proving difficult to get the equaliser with Colin coming close and Cianan just failing to get a touch on a ball across the box. Midway through the half Sean, David, Conor, Ben, Michael and Fionan were introduced. The effect was that we started to win some more of the 50-50 challenges in all areas of the field. While this didn’t result in a goal, we were definitely working our way back into the game. HT: Killorglin A 1 – Park A 0. The second half started with Cian replacing Liam in goal.
Adam and Cillian also came on early in the second half. For most of the half it was pretty even with neither side able to gain an upper hand. Park had lots of possession but Killorglin with plenty of bodies behind the ball were able to get a block or a body in the way of any attempts on goal. Even with this possession we looked vulnerable to the counter attack and on one of these Killorglin scored. At 2 – 0 we were now chasing the game and while pushing numbers forward we got caught twice more.
The last action of the game saw Edward score his first of the season in what proved to be a consolation goal for the team. FT: Killorglin A 4 – Park A 1. While the scoreline flattered the home side somewhat the Park lads will know that they can and have played much better than that in their other games this season. As the primary purpose is learning the game it is important to remember you often learn more from a defeat than from a victory and we know that this will be the case here also.
We expect a huge effort over the next couple of weeks of training starting again on Wednesdaywhich will get us back to the level of performance that we know that the lads are capable off. It was great to see at the final whistle that all the players were as gracious in defeat as they have been modest in victory. Well done.

We kept up our winning streak with a trip to Kenmare last Sunday. The first half was a close affair and we went in nil all at the break. Ger McCarthy broke the deadlock for us and scored a brace on the day. Peter McCarthy added to the tally to ensure that we got the points.
Our 18s gave a very good account of themselves last weekend going down 2-1 to a very good Dingle team who are up near the top of the table. We played with the wind in the first half and went ahead through a Bobby O’Regan penalty. We had as much of the play as our opponents and might have added to our lead but unfortunately it was Dingle who got two in quick succession.
Our opponents when on the offence were very good and we had to be at our best to limit their efforts on goal. Our centre backs of Thomas Dwyer and Antoin Stanton organised things well and made their tackles when needed.
On the other side of things we posed our own problems for the Dingle defence through Luke Dalton who is doing very well up front. It was great to see our lads attacking from the back with Padraig O’Connor and Jamie Hogan getting forward especially as the game progressed.
Our midfield of Oisin O Brien, Sean Higgins, Jack McCarthy and John Dillane(who replaced David Murphy after 10 minutes injured) all played well and are developing into very good players as they get stronger. We had two great chances at the end through John and Oisin but both were thwarted by two great saves from their keeper. So it finished 2-1 to Dingle but well done to all our lads on the day.
U16s: Inter Kenmare 5 Fenit Samphires 3
The U16s made the long trip to Kenmare last weekend for a league fixture against a team we had beaten earlier in the campaign. Unfortunately we were not able to replicate our form from previous games, being second to the ball on too many occasions. Our midfield in particular were below par and were on the back foot for too many periods in the game. Still we probably deserved to get a point as we had at least as many chances as our opponents but they scored 5 to our 3. Best for us were stand in keper Ciaran Murray (whose presence was missed in defence), Ossie Clifford at the back, and front players Christopher Murphy, Jack Lynch and Conor Lowe. Scorers for us were Jack, Conor and Cormac O’Brien.

REPORTS ; (Youths) League ; Park Fc 4-1 CS Abbeydorney ;
We picked up another win on Saturday as we look to secure a place in the league semi finals . Although it was way off the standards that we set for our selves we know we cannot perform like this again and expect to win . We fell behind to a dubious penalty but were level a few minutes later with the aid of a dubious penalty of out own which was expertly finished by Ferdia o Brien . The second half saw a much better performance but still not as good as we know we can be . Paddy Collins put us ahead after being played in by Gareth Hickey Brosnan.
The lead was extended wen Aaron o Keefe picked out the run of Donagh o Brien whose first time effort was saved but like any good striker he followed up to finished home the rebound . The final goal was scored by Man of the match Emmanuel Abubakar who got his reward for his huge work rate through out the game . Team, Conor Hurley , Aaron o Keefe , Segun Duyile , Gearoid Savage , Tommy Lynch , Dwyer Tobin , Ferdia o Brien , Emmanuel Abubakar , Paddy Collins, Sean Dukes , Gareth Hickey Brosnan , Sub Used Donagh o Brien .
(U14) Premier ; Killorglin A 1-4 Park Fc A ;
These two premier sides went into this fixture unbeaten in the league and served up a great match. Park started strong and controlled the first half with Killorglin relying on the counter attack. Parks struck first thru Leon Shalemba on fourteen minutes with Killorglin hitting back from a set piece levelling the game. Parks inform striker Sean McGrath hit back with a brace a sweet left foot strike from acute angle and his second showed great composure in a crowded area to pick his spot and give his side two goal lead at the break.
Killorglin started the second half with a strong wind at their backs and had Park pushed back and under pressure but Parks back five of James Sheehan, Conor Myers, Paddy Rourke and captain James Rusk and marshalled by Conor Hayes Parks goal custodian stood strong and disciplined. Park fourth goal by Junior Bio killed off any hope of a Killorglin fight back. Best for Park; James Sheehan, James Rusk, Poga McCannon, Leon Shalemba . Man of Match; Sean McGrath .
(U12) Div 2 ; Park C 3-3 Killarney Celtic B ;
We had the strong wind behind us from kick off and were creating good chances up front. After 15 minutes Marcelo put us in front with a great volley from 20 yards. Then we seemed to sit back and let Celtic back in it and they scored twice within 5 minutes to go ahead. Just before half-time Evan made it level with a typical good strikers goal.
The second half even against the gale we improved our game 100% and on 45 minutes we went ahead through another fine goal from Evan after Cianan had put him through with a great pass. Celtic then had to go for it but with Odhran having his best game in a Park jersey at centre-half, it looked as if we would pick up the 3 points but Celtic equalised with a well taken free kick on 55 minutes. Overall it was a much improved display all round especially in the second half with Man of the Match going to Odhran Cronin for an outstanding game.

We would to thank everyone who attended our annual table quiz at the Tankard on December 28th. A great night was had by all and it was well supported. We would also like to wish all of our players, trainers, supporters and sponsors a Happy New Year.
U16s:
The 16s traveled to Camp last Saturday for a league fixture. A good day for a game and it was an excellent game. Camp came out 3-1 victors in the end of a good scrap where both sets of players gave as good as they got. Camp are the current league leaders so it was always going to be a tough one. We started against the breeze and for the first 20 minutes it was honours even with defenses on top.
Our back 5 of Brian O’Regan, David Lenihan, Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Murray and Padraig O’Mahony were in top form ably helped by the midfield quartet of Alan McElligott, Cormac O Brien, Sean Donnellan and Ed Moynihan. Ossie and Ciaran had particularly good games and are forming a very good centre back partnership.
Then as we were getting more of the ball, Camp countered and got in behind us forcing a rash challenge in the box leading to a penalty which was duly converted. For the last 20 minutes of the half we pressed well and had some smashing passages of play with Ciaran Carmody and Christopher Murphy up front at the centre of things linking up with our midfielders. Unfortunately we weren’t able to penetrate an excellent Camp defence so 1 nil at halftime.
We came under huge pressure immediately in the second half and only a double save by Brian followed up by a goal-line clearance by David kept the score the same. We gathered ourselves soon after, got good possession of the ball and again put some good passages of play together eventually leading to Christopher scoring a great goal after turning their defence inside out and finished with a great shot to the corner of the net.
5 minutes he had another chance but put it narrowly wide. It was Camp’s turn to turn the screw then and on a counter attack they scored after Brian had pulled off a great save. We introduced Jack Lynch and Padraig Donnellan to see if we could anything out of the game and both contributed to the cause.
It was to and fro at this stage and we came close on a number of occasions but with 10 minutes to go Camp got another penalty which was hotly disputed but the ref’s decision is final and again they scored to put a gloss on the scoreline. Well done to both sets of players for a great game which was watched by a decent crowd.
U11s:
Firstly on behalf of the club I would like to thank the O Neill family for proudly sponsoring our new U11 jersey’s.
Our U11 team were at home on Saturday against Castleisland. In a game where we started very well and dominated the entire first half we found ourselves on the losing side in the finish.
From the kick off we played excellent putting Casteisland under constant pressure. Our man marking and passing was much improved from our previous game. As a result of great play from Fenit we scored two goals in quick succession. Some great finishing from Paddy Falvey and Ròn O Neill made it 2-0. Towards the end of the first half Castleisland were awarded a penalty and was scored to put only one goal between us in a very one sided first half. We could not convert enough goal scoring opportunities from our possession and this eventually cost us.
The second half started more evenly and Castleisland we allowed too much space and got back on level terms. In fairness to our lads there ran themselves into the ground but with about ten minutes left in the game this began to show as Castleisland found it all too easy to to score two late goals.
Our boys can feel proud as each and everyone gave a solid performance.
Training will resume again this Wednesday night.
Youths: AC Athletic 2 Fenit Samphires 4
Our 18s had a hard fought victory away to AC Athletic last Saturday. We started the game poorly and were 1 down after three minutes when a harmless looking effort somehow got through our defence and found it’s way into the net. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise as we upped our game immediately and we dominated possession for the remainder of the half.
Bobby O Regan in midfield in particular drove us on ably helped by Thomas Lenihan and Max Benner. Up front Luke Dalton was winning possession and set up a lot of play against a strong, athletic AC defence. We started to force them back and had a few shots on their goal but their keeper was equal to them. After 25 minutes AC had a man sent off and we pushed on even more. Oisin O Brien by now had gotten into his stride and was brought down in the box with Bobby scoring the ensuing penalty.
We continued to press and were rewarded on 43 minutes when Oisin scored with a shot going in off the post from 25 yards. The second half was a bit different with AC coming out and having a go at us but the back five of Jack McCarthy, Jamie Hogan, Padraig O Connor, Antoin Stanton and Thomas Dwyer stood firm with Jack in particular alive to any danger when the defence in front of him was breached.
AC pushed up and left space behind their back four but our quality of long passing wasn’t up to scratch to cause them any real difficulty. This took from the game we had been playing in the first half and possession was pretty even for 25 minutes. We then introduced David Murphy at the back, Darren Chester as a defensive and John Dillane on the wing. The three lads gave us impetus and we started to get in behind them again with Sean Higgins and Oisin repeatedly going close after some improved approach play.
With 15 to go Sean got in and rounded the keeper but his shot was cleared off the line to Oisin who scored. The game was limping to a conclusion when AC scored from a corner after some poor defending by us but Oisin restored our two goal lead when he scored from a rebound from a free. Final Score AC Ath 2 Samphires 4. Well done to all the lads for their effort on the day.

REPORTS
(Senior) Premier A ; Park Fc 1-0 Killarney Celtic
There no place like Christy Leahy Park on a lovely sunny Sunday morning as it was today for the visit of Killarney Celtic. Both teams were cancelling each other out with us slightly shading possession in the 1st 10 mins. Then the game burst into life in the 14th min when Fergal Maunsell hit shot that looked to be heading in to the top corner but the Celtic keeper made a good save To turn it over the bar. From the resulting corner Boysie headed over. Celtic then got in behind our backline only for Conor Hurley to save smartly with his feet.
The goal came in the 17 min when a long ball over the top forced the Celtic keeper out of his area and his clearance when straight to Ferdia o Brien who had the composure to take the ball and play 1-2 with Boysie and then stroke his 20 yard shot past the diving keeper. His first senior goal ,the first of many no doubt. The game evened off again but we had a couple of good chances for Maunsell who blazed wide to the left on the 30th min and In the 36th min Ferdia had a chance to double his tally but his shot just flashed inches wide with the keeper beaten. 1-0 half time.
We began the second half on the front foot and should have put in a second when Michael Conway picked the ball up on the left went past 2 player squared the ball with david Courtney Ferdia and David McLoughlin one should have put the ball in the net but no 1 took charge and the ball was blazed over by Fonz. Courtney raced clear in the 86min with Maunsell in support he went in 1v1 with the keeper only for the keeper to come out on top on this occasion. In the 89min Celtic had a free kick on the on the right had side of the box it was a perfectly executed free that looked destined for the top corner but young Conor Hurley made a great save high to his right to keep the score line at 1-0. Well done to Ferdia who was the match winner and Conor who kept a clean sheet
Best on the day was everyone for the hard work and resilience they showed today. Man of the match was Ferdia o Brien .
(Youth) League ; CS Abbeydorney 0-6 Park Fc
We moved to the top of the division with a very comfortable win on Saturday afternoon against CS Abbeydorney in Mounthawk Park and picked up another clean sheet along the way . Ryan Dolan was the man of the match with a hat trick in a 21 minute spell from the seventh minute to the 28th minute . Gareth Hickey Brosnan scored his first goal for the club and I’m sure their will be plenty more when he rounded the keeper to slot the ball home just after the half hour mark .
The second half only lasted 25 minutes when the referee blew the final whistle with our opponents being overrun all over the pitch and were finding the going tough with only ten players . Gearoid Savage powerfully headed home to make it five nil before Gareth Hickey Brosnan grab his second to finish the scoring . Team ; Conor Hurley , Aaron o Keefe , Jamie Clifford, Tommy Lynch , Sean Dukes , Dwyer Tobin , Paddy Collins, Emanuel Abubakar , Ryan Dolan , Fergal Ryan , Gareth Hickey Brosnan . Sub Used , Gearoid Savage .
(U17) League : Park 6-3 Inter Kenmare
Played on Saturday last in Christy Leahy Park, this was a top of the table clash with both teams locked on 13 points before kick-off. It promised to be a severe test for the Tralee lads even though they had overcome their South Kerry opponents 1-0 in the reverse fixture a few weeks ago. However, this time there could be no excuses, with the pitch in excellent shape and on a good day for football. Park started with Patrick Kearney returning from injury in goals, with the central defensive unit of Kevan Foley, Gavin Wadding and Sean Tansley giving them a solid look at the back. They got great support from Tomás Leen and Ronan Duggan, both of whom also raided down the flanks at every opportunity. The home side had skipper, Gary Howard anchoring the midfield, partnered by Rory Kelly and Shane McGinley, while John O’Brien was the attacking spearhead, with namesake Donagh O’Brien in close support.
Park took the game to Inter from the outset and the benefit of great attendances and hard work at training sessions in recent weeks became apparent as the home side’s passing game began to test Kenmare’s defensive shape. The breakthrough came on 14 minutes when from a free kick on Inter’s left flank, Howard picked out Kelly who eluded the defence and steered the ball home.
Five minutes later, Park doubled their advantage when John O’Brien picked up the ball on Inter’s right side and with the defence backing off, the striker steered his shot into the bottom corner. Park were dominant now and almost made it 3-0 when John O’Brien picked out Donagh O’Brien who killed the ball with a superb first touch and beat the keeper with a shot that agonisingly clipped the inside of the post and was scrambled away. Gavin Wadding could also have added to the tally but his fine long distance shot went just past the post with the surprised keeper scrambling across his goal-line.
Then, against the run of play, Kenmare broke through the centre of Park’s defence only for Kearney to make a magnificent save in a 1v1 confrontation with their striker. Kenmare continued to rally though and were particularly prominent from set-pieces, especially throw-ins and Park were dealt a hammer blow right on half-time when Kenmare took a quick throw that caught the Park defence flat-footed and the resultant cross was turned in at the far post to leave the scoreline at Park 2 Kenmare 1 at the interval.
It was now clear that the remainder of the match would tell a lot about the spirit in this Park side and the strength of their character. On the resumption, Inter piled forward and created several chances, the best of which saw their striker head over the crossbar when unmarked in the six-yard box. Park responded by introducing Conor Hurley into midfield and they regained the initiative 10 minutes in when John O’Brien again careered into the penalty area and surprised the keeper with a left foot shot that crept in at the near post to make it 3-1.
Park piled forward now and Kelly drove goalwards and forced a fine save from the Keeper with a super drive. Then, Park raided down the right flank and worked the ball inside to Howard and from 20 yards, the Liverpool supporter – wearing number 8 – produced a screaming Steven Gerrard-like finish into the bottom corner that no goalkeeper was going to save.
The South Kerry lads never gave up though and soon reduced the deficit to 4-2 with a looping shot that deceived Kearney and went in off the butt of the post. The stage was set for another comeback but with Darcy O’Sullivan growing into the game, Foley and Wadding tackling tigerishly, Tansley coolness personified and Leen having another super game, the Park’s defence held firm. The home side regained control of the game when they counter-attacked and Donagh O’Brien played John O’Brien through and the striker made no mistake to claim a deserved hat-trick.
Park then introduced Aaron Shanahan into the attack to stretch the tired Kenmare legs and the move paid dividends when Howard came forward again and his high drive proved too hot to handle for Inter’s keeper who could only help it along it’s way into the net. At 6-2 down, there was no way back for the Kenmare lads but they still managed a consolation goal from a free-kick just before the finish.
So, Park begin 2015 as table-toppers, sharing the lead with Castleisland, but with a better goal difference and one game less played. Their fate rests in their own hands. Park: Kearney, Leen, Duggan, Tansley, Wadding, Foley, McGinley , Howard, Donagh O’Brien, John O’Brien, Kelly, O’Sullivan, Shanahan, Hurley, Ciaran Killeen, Cian Holden.

Kerry schoolboys and girls soccer league team of the week ;
Well done to Colin Walsh from St Brendans Park Fc U13’s who made the Kerry schoolboys and girls soccer league team of the week .
REPORTS ; (U17) League ; Inter Kenmare 0-1 Park Fc
Following their defeat to Castleisland last time out, Park were presented with a second tough task away to undefeated league leaders, Inter Kenmare on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon last. The first half was a tight affair with Park shading the possession stakes but with Inter always dangerous on the break and from set-pieces. In fact, Park were indebted to keeper, Patrick Kearney who was always alert to any danger and whose handling was assured all through.
However, Park’s central defenders Kevan Foley and Gavin Wadding were rock solid and tuned in from the outset with Seán Tansley imperious in his organisational and positional sense. Park were also dangerous up front with Darcy O’Sullivan moving into the front line for Donagh O’Brien who had been ill during the week and the first chance of the game fell to his partner John O’Brien who was the victim of a bobble as he was about to shoot and this allowed the keeper to save down to his right. Park’s wing men were also causing problems for the home side with Ronan Duggan starting for another victim of illness, Shane McGinley. Duggan bombed forward at every opportunity and forced the keeper into another smart save at the foot of the post.
Tomás Leen also raided with intent down the right flank while covering well when Inter were in possession. The breakthrough eventually came when skipper Gary Howard pressed forward on Inter’s kick out and Park worked the ball from right to left with Eamonn Sheehy on the end of the move and facing the homesters isolated right back. Sheehy feinted right but when the tackle came he had pushed the ball left and the penalty was inevitable. Rory Kelly was entrusted with the responsibility and he found the bottom right corner with precision. Inter pushed forward as the clock ticked down to the interval but Tansley, Wadding, Foley and Kearney in particular held firm. Park remained dangerous on the break though and Howard tested the Kenmare keeper with a stinging drive before eminent referee, Tom Kerrisk, brought a pulsating first half to a conclusion.
Park moved Sheehy into attack on the resumption with O’Sullivan switching to midfield, but their rhythm was disrupted when Duggan had to retire with a calf injury. However, the in-form McGinley proved an ideal replacement as Park never dropped their tempo. Both sides were going at it now with gusto and each had chances to score with O’Brien again forcing a fine save from Inter’s keeper which was more than matched by Kearney’s flying save to prevent what looked like a certain equaliser. Kenmare were throwing everything at the Tralee lads now but Park were ever-dangerous on the counter with Sheehy and O’Brien always a threat.
They looked to have sewn the game up when substitute, Donagh O’Brien’s sublime touch in a crowded penalty box picked out Rory Kelly who produced a super finish that was ruled out for offside. Inter pressed to the end but Park grafted relentlessly without the ball, yet remained composed when in possession and ran out deserving 1-0 winners at the finish of this effervescent contest played in great spirit in very testing conditions.
**Special thanks to the Inter mentors who were so helpful with Ronan Duggan’s injury and also to Eddie Sheehy who ferried Ronan back to Tralee** . Park: Kearney, Leen, Duggan, Tansley, Wadding, Foley, Sheehy, Howard, O’Sullivan, John O’Brien, Kelly , Donagh O’Brien, McGinley.
(U15) Div 1 ;
Park B 3-4 Castleisland
On a cold damp afternoon the game got under way with Park quick on the attack from the kick off and as John Ward ran through he was pulled down in the box and a penalty was awarded which he put in the back of the net 1-0 . From the kick off Castleisland passed the ball around working the ball up the pitch and from a corner which should have been cleared dropped to one of their players who put it in the back of the net 1-1.
This was the hardest game so far this season with a strong physical Castleisland team but Park continued to pass the ball around and Shane Jordan in midfield clearing ball after ball slots a ball through to John Ward who rounded a couple of players but was once again pulled down in the box and made no mistake in slotting the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1 the Park. Jamel rounds a couple of players out on the wing puts it in to Conor who shoots but the ball goes across the front of the goal and Jack running in was unable to get a foot on it and goes wide. HT 2-1.
Straight from the start of the second half Castleisland piled on the pressure and bringing the ball down the centre of the pitch and hit the back of the net 2-2. The game went back and forward with Aaron making a great save and then David Oba heading the ball off the line James O’Connor clearing ball after ball from the back, with a ball from a pass down the wing the Castleisland forward took a terrific shot into the top corner of the net giving Aaron no chance of saving it to take the lead 2-3. James takes a free kick and with the ball over the top of the backs John Ward was able to run on and slot the ball past the keeper for his hat trick to make it 3-3 Shane and James were tireless in defence and midfield clearing the ball up field as time was running out it looked like a draw was on the cards but with a mistaken pass in front of the goal instead of clearing it the Castleisland forward made no mistake in putting it in the back of the net to make the final score 3-4 .
Team. Aaron, James, Dylan, Darragh, Jack, Dylan, Shane, John, Conor, Jamel, David, Josh, Sean, Ozaz, Edward, Dean . M.O.M Shane Jordan .
(U11) Group 1 ; PARK Fc A 11-2 Tralee Dynamos A
It was an early start on Saturday morning for the return fixture against our near neighbours Tralee Dynamos. The weather fitted really well with our last game before the Christmas break with frost in the air and on the ground. The conditions underfoot were going to be a little heavy and the management were interested to see how the boys passing game would cope. The game started at a frantic pace with the ball moving quickly from one end of the field to the other with neither team seeming to hold the upper hand in the early exchanges. Shots on goal were few and far between with our defence of Sean, Edward, Jack and Ben marshaling really well in front of Cian in goals. It wasn’t too long however before our midfield of Fionan,
David and Conor started to create the opportunities to play to ball into dangerous positions and we started to create some scoring chances. The first of these chances converted was finished really well by Fionan following some good work earlier by the birthday boy Adam who was working the line really well up front. The score was no more that the team deserved and it seemed to settle everyone down. Michael, making his ‘A’ team debut came on to great effect in defence after Ben picked up a slight knock in a committed challenge. As always we try to utilise the bench and at this point in the half with Fiachra (another debutant) coming in to defence, Danny, Josh and Cianan came in to midfield with Colin and Cillian coming in to lead the line.
The team began to get rewards for some lovely one and two touch football. Colin picked up his first of the afternoon with a close in finish after good work from the midfielders and soon after had his second with a finish to the corner. At this point we were creating lots of chances by getting heads up and always playing the ball to the player in the better position. A great team move culminated with Cianan finishing expertly from the edge of the box to make it 4-0 to the Park and not long after Colin finished for his third and the teams fifth. Before the finish of the half some good work by Dynamos gave them the opportunity that their play at times in the first half deserved. They finished the move well to Cian’s goal.
After the half-time team talk the challenge for the boys was to see if they could play possession football for the second-half against a still determined Dynamo’s side. In the second half players were also being asked to play in positions that wouldn’t be considered their normal position to give them an understanding of the overall game. Liam replaced Cian in goals for the second half. At times our shape suffered as players adapted to their new positions but we learned a lot from the exercise as we now know that we have attackers who are equally adept in defence and defenders who look impressive when moved into midfield.
Even though a little experimental the boys still managed to create lots of chances and scored further goals with Cillian scoring, Cianan and Adam getting their second of the day and Colin capping off a great team performance when he added another two to his tally. It must be said that Tralee Dynamos continued to put in a great effort right to the very end and scored an excellent second goal.
They have some really good players and in particular their goalkeeper again put in an excellent performance on the day. Since we started training in July this group of players have been completely committed to training and their attitude has been excellent. This has shown in the performances on the pitch and the results that have followed. From the management, it has been a pleasure to work with these boys and we look forward to starting again in the new year. We wish the boys, their parents and families a great Christmas.

(U14) Premier ; Tralee Dynamos A 1-2 Park A
Park FC had to dig deep to get the victory in this local derby.Park dominated the possession stats but in front of goal they were frustrated by some tame efforts and the young dynamo keeper was at his best.Dynamos battling qualities must be admired and they struck first blood twenty two minutes in when their star midfielder Sean Kennedy netted from a thirty yard free kick and they held the lead to the break.Park made a change at the break introducing Alfie Christie, now Park had dynamos pushed back deep in their own half but again guilty of poor finishing in front of goal.Parks Alfie Christie with less than eight minutes on the watch levelled the game with a low twenty five yard strike and with dynamos unsettled Parks Sean McGrath and Leon Shalamba combined to score the winner for Park in the final minute of the game.Best for Park ; James Rusk , Sean McGrath , Sebastian Vasiu , Leon Shalamba; Man of the Match ; Poga McCannon .
(U14) Div 2 ; Park Fc B 2-2 Fenit Samphires
Nice crisp morning for a game, we didn’t know what to expect from the Fenit Saphires, I had a feeling that it wasn’t going to be easy. We started of well even then tho we were short of two main player’s Harris and Tony. Park started the battle and with both teams raring to go,there was good passing up and down the field, then after 5 minutes Padraig shot the ball but the Fenit keeper could not hold on to the ball 1-0. With 10 minutes to go in the first half Padraig on the attack again shot at the keeper , but this time the keeper was able to save but could not hold on to it and with a follow up by Jack, Jack lobbed the ball over the keeper 2-0. Half Time Score 2-0. Second half was a fast half, with Fenit making a substitution an ex Park A player Fergal O’brien made it harder for the lads with a determination to score but with our defence they didn’t make it easy for Fergal, with a one on one Fergal and Joe, Fergal shot and Joe made a great save. Eventually Fergal took a shot from outside the box and in it went 2-1. The game was yet again up and down the field, some good strikes and some unlucky misses from both sides. 3 minutes to go and Fenit went on the attack and scored 2-2. A great game from both sides well done all. Player’s: Joe, Josh, Brian, Daniel, Cillian, Samson, Padraig, Dylon, Jack,Carl (Cj), Mark, Alex, Tennyson and Thomas . Man of the Match: Padraig White. Again well done Lads.
(U12) Div 2 ; Tralee Dynamos B 0-8 Park B
A bright cold morning in Tralee saw a derby between Park under 12 B and their next door neighbours dynamos under 12 B at the Dynamos ground. Park got off to a slow start taking some time to settle. Dynamos had a lot of attacks in the first 10 minutes but Ryan Guerin was solid as ever in central defence, any shots they had were well dealt with By Huge Emmerson in goal. Attacks from Dynamos right wing were cut off by TJ Heaphy who was excellent in the left back position. With 20 minutes gone Matt Healy got the ball in the penalty area and scored a lovely goal, settling everybody’s nerves. It finished 0-1 at half time. The second half was a different story altogether. Danny Graney came on as striker replacing David (Tiny) Callaghan whose footwear let him down. Within minutes Matt again got the ball and made it 2 to park. 10 minutes later Jordan Kissane was introduced, he won the ball in midfield, played his way through and smashed in Parks third goal. A few minutes after that Robert Vassiu who was playing in mid field scored a wonderful goal. Danny Graney playing striker then scored two beautiful goals from close range making it 6 for Park. With 15 minutes to go Mark Brick took up a striking position alongside Danny and scored two great goals to make the final score 0-8. Although Leon Daly didn’t score he was outstanding on the right wing and contributed to the goals by supplying excellent crosses and won man of the match for his play. Left winger Earnan Ferris had a great game also making some great crosses. Well done to Park who now have maximum points after 5 games.

We would like to wish our player Brian O’Regan the best of luck in Lake Macquarie, Australia where he is competing in the International Children’s Games. Brian is the goalkeeper for the soccer team who have travelled to Australia and we know he will do his best and do us proud! Youths League CS Abbeydorney 2 Fenit Samphires 4
Samphires got an away win in the Kerry U18 league last weekend in Mounthawk Park on a scoreline of 4-2 vs Abbeydorney. It wasn’t the best game of soccer either team has played with hard work rather than flashes of brilliance the order of the day.
From our point of view we would not be happy with the frequency we gave the ball away especially in the first half. Nevertheless we were 1 up at the interval courtesy of an Oisin O’Brien free kick and some good defending. We improved a bit in the second half with Sean Higgins and Oisin a threat when we got at their defence.
Oisin made it 2 nil, five minutes after the break but we immediately conceded from a corner . We had most of the play for the rest of the match and Sean scored a third with 15 to go after some good play involving Thomas Lenihan, Max Benner and David Murphy.
We had many chances in this last quarter but it was Abbeydorney with 10 minutes left on the clock who scored again which left it 3-2 to us. We continued to press and Oisin completed his hat trick after some determined play from Gordon Burrowes. Best for us were Eoghan O Brien,Padraig O Connor and Thomas Dwyer.

Kerry schoolboys and girls soccer league team of the week ;
Well done to Gavin Parker from St Brendans Park Fc U12’s who made the Kerry schoolboys and girls soccer league team of the week .
REPORTS ;
(U17) League ; Park Fc 5-2 Iveragh Utd
Following the abandonment, due to a flooded pitch, of their last home game v Castleisland, Park played their first full game in eight weeks at home to Iveragh Utd at Christy Leahy Park on Saturday last. The first half saw Park dominate possession with Eamonn Sheehy controlling the midfield exchanges. Tomás Leen was also marauding down the right flank from full back and his cross was just missed by Gavin Wadding as the home side sought an early lead.
Iveragh remained dangerous on the break but centre halves, Sean Tansley and Gary Howard were strong and with Robbie Dinan absent through injury, stand-in keeper, Patrick Kearney was masterful in the air. Darcy O’Sullivan was unlucky not to convert another Park chance when he smashed a superb drive off the crossbar.
However, for all their possession, Park were unable to penetrate the visitor’s defence until Donagh O’Brien opened their account with a typical finish when he drifted in behind the South Kerrymen. The home side kept up the pressure and O’Brien clipped the post with another effort, but Iveragh equalised against the run of play when a long ball was headed on and finished well by their striker and it remained deadlocked at the interval.
Park introduced John O’Brien into their attack for the second half and he made an immediate impact with his physical presence and incisive running. The home side’s pressure paid off when Nathan O’Leary’s delivery from a corner proved too hot for the keeper to handle under pressure from Rory Kelly at the near post. Playing with even more confidence now, Park extended their lead when Shane McGinley, who was outstanding at left back, split the Iveragh defence with a pinpoint pass to John O’Brien who made no mistake with the finish.
The home side were cruising now but Iveragh rallied again and an incisive move down the left flank was completed with a fine finish to make it 3-2. Park were rocked but responded in the best possible way by keeping the ball well and switching the play when the opportunities arose. They were rewarded when Rory Kelly steered home a cross to restore their two-goal cushion and shortly afterwards, John O’Brien’s effort hit the crossbar.
At that stage, Park introduced Ronan Duggan to bolster the defence and Cormac Hurley did a similar job at left wing-back as Park switched to a 5-3-2 formation. The final act was worth waiting for though and the result was put beyond doubt when Darcy O’Sullivan scored the goal of the game when he volleyed home Donagh O’Brien’s outswinging corner to make it 5-2 at the finish.
A bad day for the Park. The score doesn’t represent the game, the boy’s played well, but here we go, we had a few sickness in the team so we had to shuffle a bit which gave Listowel the advantage, ten minutes of battling Listowel scored 1-0, five minutes after Jack placed the ball passed the keeper 1-1.Park and Listowel battled on but was Listowel’s day by half time the score was 6-1 to Listowel.
It was not the Boy’s fault but a few bad descisions which didn’t help the lads. Second half the lads went out looking good, Park got a free kick which Tony took but the Listowel keeper saved but could not hold on to and with a follow up by Jack neatly placed the ball into the back of the net 6-2. Listowel had another break and with a bit of a mix up in our defence and Listowel scored again 7-2.
Park then went on the attack and with a numerous chances the ball would not go into to the net one of those days. We should have been winning but he ho, with ten minutes to go Padraig passed the ball over to Jack and once again Jack took the ball into the box and with the keeper having no chance Jack neatly put the ball into the net, 7-3 Jack’s hatrick.
With Park still battling to close the score with only a few minutes to go Padraig on his debut and had a great game from 25 yards had a cracker of a shot which the keeper had no chance 7-4. We just ran out of time, but he ho, well done lads proud of you all. Once again lads well done. Man of the Match: Jack Murphy . Team : Joe,Josh,Samson (Capt), Cillian,Dylon,Carl(Cj),Harris,Padraig,Tony,Jack,Mark,Tennyson,Richard and Alex .
(U12) Premier ; Park A 0-3 Killorglin A
On Saturday we played a very strong Kilorglin team in Christy Leahy Park. After dominating most of the first half we almost took the lead when Martin Laucher had a good chance after he went around the keeper only to see his shot hit the side net. With all the pressure on Kilorglin’s defence the hit us on the counter attack and punished us with a great finish a left footed dink over the on rushing keeper Sean Brodrick. We were hit completely against the run of play. We had a couple of more chances before half time through jamie Fitzgerald and martin again.
But we went in 1 down at the break. The second half was much of the same with us having the lions share of the ball but Kilorglin’s was very strong and they were always dangerous on the counter attack. Which they showed as the caught us for the second time. Our were down a bit after that when they added a 3rd but fair dues to them there very strong at the back and clinical on the break.
Best on the day for park was Alan Brosnan john o connor graham sheehy man of the match for us was Armin Heinrich who has been in outstanding form this season so far.
(U12) Div 2 ; Asdee Rovers 0-10 Park B
Saturday morning was beautiful with lots of sunshine and no wind in Asdee for the game between Park under 12 B and Asdee. Park got the game under way and after lovely play in mid field by Robert Vassiu who passed to Jordan Kissane who shot the ball into the back of Asdee’s net it was 0-1 after 4 minutes. Five minutes later a superb bit of dribbling by Connor Brick and a smashing shot saw park double their lead.
Leon Daly was outstanding on the right wing for park and having made some lovely crosses into the box which Jordan got behind having three near misses he finally scored his second goal ten minutes before half time making the score 0-3 at the break. Earnan Ferris was introduced on the left wing for the second half and had a great game, Mark Brick replaced TJ Heaphy who had a brilliant first half. Minutes into the second half David Callahan scored a wonderfully worked goal linking up with Jordan to make it 0-4.
Just after that Jordan who won the ball himself in mid field ran at the defence and smashed another home for his hat trick. Again linking up with Jordan and wriggling his way around inside the box David added another to his tally and a sixth for park. Soon after Danny Graney coming on he made his way into the box staying on side an got a lovely tap in, 0-7.
Shortly after that in an almost repeat of the fifth goal Jordan again took control of the ball on the wing, played his way into the box and scored his fourth. It wasn’t long before Danny again in the box scrambled his way past the defence and scored his second. Before the game ended a lovely cross from Leon Daly on the right wing found Jordan who scored his fifth and Parks tenth.
Asdee’s attacks throughout the game were firmly dealt with by a strong back four and Ryan Guerin was particularly solid. Hugh in goal had only two saves to make in the whole game which he did very convincingly. The final score 0-10 and another 3 points for Park which makes it 12 out of 12 and puts them on top of the table. Well played to all.
(U12) Div 2 ; Killarney Celtic C 1-1 Park C
We started the game brightly with Samuel and Gavin passing the ball well to midfield where Cianan ,Tadgh and Lorcan worked tirelessly all day. Both sides had chances in the first half but none taken.Second half saw a few changes and we began to control the game more but were caught on the break on 40 mins when the Celtic striker neatly finished. Great credit to our lads because we never gave up and after creating a few more chances it was Samuel who got us level with a volley from the edge of the box after great work by Dara on the wing. Both sides had a few chances to win but a draw was a fair result. All 16 who travelled played their part but on the day Gavin Parker got Man of the Match for a brilliant display at full back. Training every Thursday at 4pm.

REPORTS (Youths) League ; Park Fc 3-0 Listowel Celtic
We got back to winning ways today and stayed joint top of the table after a home win over Listowel Celtic . This was a great result when you must consider that 9 of the starting eleven are Under 17 this season . We started the brighter and could have been ahead from a Dwyer Tobin effort only for a great reaction save from the Listowel Keeper .
The remainder of the first half saw up dominate the possession stakes without creating any clear chances on goal . Listowel had a few half chances on goal but stand in keeper Tommy Lynch held onto everything that came his way . The second half was on three minutes old when Alberto Anticoli fired a low shot from the corner of the box into the far corner of the net for great opening goal.
Listowel could have been level midway through the half only for a point blank save from Tommy Lynch . As the half wore on we had numerous chances to put the game to bed but Fergal Ryan , Emanuel Abubakar and Ryan Dolan were all of target.
The killer goal finally came in the 86th minute after good build up work from Paddy Collins and Ryan Dolan saw Fergal Ryan find the net and minutes later he rounded of a good performance with a well taken solo goal.
Best for us were Ferdia o Brien , Darcy o Sullivan , Tommy Lynch ,Gearoid Savage, Aaron o Keefe and Alberto Anticoli . Man of the match Nathan o Leary . Team ; Tommy Lynch, Aaron o Keefe, Darcy o Sullivan, Gearoid Savage, Ferdia o Brien, Nathan o Leary, Emmanuel Abubakar, Paddy Collins, Alberto Anticoli , Dwyer Tobin, Fergal Ryan. Subs used: Ryan Dolan, Gary Howard, Tomas Leen, Not used Conor Hurley and John Carroll . Special thanks to Ger o Brien and Jack Moriarty for helping us out with their U17 players today when we were short from our own squad .
(U15) SFAI Cup ; Nenagh Afc 3-1 Park Fc
One of those games and one of those days where you are not sure where the match report should go. With the first 10 minutes of such total domination that we should have been 4-0 up? With the fine performance of the Nenagh boys even when under huge pressure from Park? Or with the ref? We won’t go too far with the ref, other than to question the wisdom of having a local referee managing a National Cup game.
This ref was as poor as they come to say the least. Park started brilliantly, playing outstanding football, inspired by Thomas Burke, Dylan Casey and Michael Slattery. Inside the first 9 nine minutes we had hit the post twice, missed a headed opportunity from a foot out and put ourselves one up through the brilliance of Burke, Slattery and a superb headed finish from Niall Sertutxa.
Straight from the resultant kick off Nenagh attacked and when the ball went a yard wide our boys switched off. The Nenagh lads kept playing and put the ball in the net much to the bemusement of the Park defence. Bemusement turned to astonishment when the local ref allowed the goal.Unfortunately we allowed this, and subsequent decisions, to upset out rhythm and the Nenagh lads exploited this to the full.
We dropped our intensity levels and Nenagh dominated in Midfield and overall played better football. We were giving the ball away too easily and our energy levels were not at our usual levels. When we lost the ball in midfield near the end of the first half the Nenagh boys took the chance with ruthless efficiency and went in 2-1 up at the break.
A few personnel and positional changes at half time helped us gain control of the game again although Nenagh continued to threaten on the break. Indeed but for some excellent saves by Gearoid Fitzgerald we might have been out of the game earlier than we were. Sean Carmody and James Rusk were now in midfield and competing strongly but, truth be told, we created very little to worry the Nenagh keeper.
Dylan Casey and Dan Goggin worked their socks off but even then we couldn’t trouble a well organised Nenagh defence. Nenagh got their final goal on the break with the last kick of the game. It was an excellent example of unselfish team play and ruthless finishing. We tried our best, no doubt about that. But we lost our focus and ended up looking like a far poorer team than we are.
Time to reflect now and take lessons from this that will stand to the boys and their managers into the future. They are an excellent bunch of young men who have the ability and, we hope, the resolve to go on and win county honours during the coming months. Obviously outstanding teams like League favourites Listowel and Killarney Celtic, our local rivals Dynamos with some great players, and newcomers Mastergeeha will ask us plenty of tough questions but today’s lesson should stand us in good stead.
Thanks to the parents who traveled on the bus with us and others who made the game on their own steam. Thanks also to Nenagh AFC who provided us with excellent facilities and food and were gentle on us in defeat. Best of luck to them in the rest of the competition.
TrainingTuesday night at 7.40pm. Park panel: Gearoid Fitzgerald, James Rusk, Sean Carmody, Matt Lukco, Dylan Casey, Adam Ward, Dan Goggin, Michael O’Gara, Kevin Browne, Thomas Burke, Conor Higgins, Raul Vnczel, Niall Sertutxa, Jake Deering, Michael Slattery.
(U13) SFAI Cup 3rd Round: Park Fc 5 – 0 BT Harps
The Park 13’s welcomed the North Tipp. Champions Bt Harps to Christy Leahy Park yesterday in the 3rd Round of the National Cup, the park lads were hoping to prolong their Cup journey by progressing to the Round 32 Open Draw and by God they done it in emphatic style with an an impressive win over a technically good side in BT Harps.
The park lads started fast as they did in previous games, Junior, Kevin and Colin in centre midfield were controling possession and with Nathan & mervin pace on the wings started to unlock the Harps defence creating a few great chances within the 1st 10min period for Sean upfront, and should have been a couple of goals to the good. The visitors played a simillar pass and move style with some good technical players in particular their No 9 & 10 who made it hard work for the park back four in the early exchanges and could easily have been the first to score.
The park lads got the tonic they needed on the 13th min mark when a simple ball out from left full back Rhys found mervin on the left, a good run down the wing mervin swung the ball into Sean in the box who clinically finished to the left corner 1-0 up, The park were now dominating in the middle third thru great creative play from Junior, Kevin and Mervin, defensively they were solid in all areas with Tide and Cian snuffing out any opportunities coming thru the centre, both full backs Darra & Rhys providing the cover, mopping up any loose ball.
The park’s pressure was rewarded on the 22nd minute when a cross from Mervin across the box fell to Nathan who controled the ball and showed great composure laying the ball back to Darra outside the box on the right, one touch, strike, Goal, what a finish!! 2-0 to the park. 5 mins later and Mervin was the provider angain this time from the right with an outswinging ball Colin gambled with a run from left wing to the back post, tapping the ball to the net 3-0. and 3 mins later Sean made it 4-0 with a fine individual goal breaking thru a crowd of 4 players to side foot past the keeper, 4-0 at the break.
The park remained in command and controlled possesion of the ball in all sectors but failed to penetrate, Conor came in for Mervin upfront to freshen things up and battled hard creating opportunities, it wasnt til the 45th minute before the park scored again and what a finish from Colin, another fine delivery from a corner kick by Kevin, colin rose nearly his own height and a bullet of a header to the top corner 5-0 to the Park.
Bt harps came into the game creating chances of their own but the park were resilient in defence and with Gavin in goals keen to keep a clean sheet, any danger was dealt with in commanding fashion. Further changes were needed as the Park midfield tired with Liam coming in on the right for Nathan, Greg on the left for Colin and Jordan in centre for Kevin, this injected a bit more life into the game and Park created a few more chances thru greg and conor but failed to convert. Final whistle 5-0 to the park.
Well done to the lads,a solid squad performance in which we showed great composure thru out the pitch. Fair play to the BT Harps management team who were gracious in defeat saying “That’s how the game should be played” nice comments from a sporting side, we wish BT Harps success in their domestic league campaign. The lads now progress into the Round 32 open draw to be made in December, lets hope it’s a kind one!!!

Our seniors continued their great run with a fantastic win over Spa Road on Sunday morning. We are scoring some amazing goals this season and Sunday was no exception with goals from Ciaran O’Mahony, a brace from Ger McCarthy and another brace by Daniel Clinton. Our goal tally is mounting up and hopefully we can continue on this winning streak!
U16s:
The 16s recorded their first win of the season last weekend at home to the Park on a wet and windy November day. We played with the wind in the first half and had a lot of the play. The Park were dangerous on the counter but our defence of Ossie Clifford, Ciaran Murray, Alan McElligott and David Lenihan held firm. Christopher Murphy and Sean Donnellan in midfield dominated and set the platform for the win.
Our first goal came after 20 minutes from a well driven free from about 30 yards by Sean which the keeper could only parry into the air. Their defence partially cleared but only to Cormac O’Brien who volleyed expertly onto the net. We scored again five minutes later through Christopher when he latched onto another rebound after some good pressure in their six yard box by forward Padraig Donnellan.
It was two nil at the half but now we were against the wind and the Park came into it. We came under pressure at times in this half but again the defence were solid with keeper Brian O’Regan behind them handling and distributing well.
On the wings we had Ciaran Carmody and Ed Moynihan putting in the miles and showing no little skill. At times we took too much out of the ball losing possession and handing the initiative to the opposition.
We had Christopher and Jack Lynch up front for much of this half and both combined well. Cormac and Sean in the middle set up many attacks and led to Chris scoring again two more times. The Park scored a goal in the final minutes of the game which their efforts deserved. Well done to both sets of players who served up a great game.
ONE of Tralee’s most successful soccer players ever is returning home.
After 14 seasons in the League of Ireland, Galway United legend, Derek O’Brien, is back to play one last season with, Tralee Dynamos, the club where his football journey began.
Derek holds the record for appearances by a Kerry player in the League of Ireland and also has the honour of being the first Kerryman to play in a European competition.
“I made a promise before I finished playing I’d have one more season at Tralee Dynamos,” said Derek O’Brien.
“When I was growing up, Dynamos were the best team in the town by a mile and they have always been very good to me,” said Derek.
“I know they’ve had some tough times of late, so before I finish my career I’d like to put them back at the top,” he said.
The Shanakill native has two daughters in Galway and works with Elvery Sports in the city. He will be making the commute down for Dynamos games.
Derek tasted European competition with St Patricks Athletic. In 2008 he played against a Hertha Berlin side which featured, ex Liverpool FC, player, Andriy Voronin and current Borussia Dortmund and Poland star, Łukasz Piszczek.
“So many players from Tralee could have been League of Ireland, I don’t even think I was the best player in the team underage, but I was hungrier,” said Derek.
2007 was Derek’s landmark season, when, in ‘the city of the tribes’ he won the ‘Galway United Player of The Year’.
In 2007, he was also picked alongside the best players in the domestic game when he was selected on ‘PFAI Premier Division Team of the Year.
In 2002, Derek won an senior Ireland B-Team cap playing in tournament against, England, Scotland and Wales.
In his playing career, Derek, won two League of Ireland First Division titles, one with Cork in 2011 and the other the following season with Limerick.
An experienced campaigner, the left winger has also ran out for, Sligo Rovers, Longford Town and Salthill Devon.
