Ballymac GAA celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge

Ballymac Health & Wellbeing Committee and Coiste na Gaeilge will run a walking week to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. We are asking as many people as possible  to walk a little bit every day from Monday 15th March to Sunday 22nd March and this will include St Patricks day. Ideally, we would like everyone involved and we are anxious to spread the message to our friends and neighbours that do not have access to Social Media.  We have volunteers who will help with the logistics and all we ask this week is to spread the message and we will circulate full details during the week.

Má tá aon duine sa Pharóiste go bhfuil Gaeilge acu agus a bheidh in ann cúpla uair a chloig a thabhairt dúinn – chur glaoch go 087 9795220.

Coaching & Games

We want to remind Clubs that Kerry GAA Coaching and Games have a number of training sessions on their YouTube platform to keep players motivated during the current lockdown.

Kerry Coiste na nÓg will  not be sending out any groups/fixtures over the

next couple of weeks or until we have a potential start date for our competitions.

.

As before, we continue to urge clubs to follow the current guidelines. As the numbers decrease, the vaccination continues and the evenings begin to stretch, we can be hopeful that we can return to our playing pitches over the coming months, but until then we must continue to adhere to the nationwide restrictions.

Congratulations

Well done to John Joe O’Carroll from Asdee and former Treasurer of Kerry County Board on his election as one of the two Trustee to Central Council. We wish John Joe every success in his new position. This was a position that Ballymac GAA man Din Joe Baily was elected to in 1941

Comhghairdeas Le Scoil Nuachabháil

Congratulations to Scoil Nuachabháil on their victory in the 6/8 teacher School section of Cumann na mBunscoil on Wednesday night last  in Austin Stack Park.

They defeated Currow NS on a 2-9 to 1-9 scoreline. Well done to all the players and to our U12 Mentor Mossy Brosnan who Managed and Trained the team.

Scoil Nuachabhàil and Currow NS served up a superb game of football on Wednesday evening last in Austin Stack Park in the Final of the 6/8 teacher Schools Cumann na mBunscoil competition.

Exchanges were even in the early stages with the score level 0-3 apiece midway through the first half.

The Ballymac team then had a period of dominance and two goals before the break saw them leading at half time on a 2-7 to 0-5 scoreline.

Currow began the second half in determined fashion and early points reduced the deficit. When they struck for a goal with ten minutes remaining to leave just three points between the sides it had supporters on the edge of their seats.

Full credit to Scoil Nuachabháil for their excellent defence which ensured the goal which Currow required didn’t materialise. When the final whistle went it was the Ballymac school who were celebrating victory on a 2-9 to 1-9 scoreline. Well done to team and management on a fantastic achievement.

SENIORS

Ballymac played host to Moyvane on Saturday evening at 6.30 in the third round of the county league. Heavy rain on the previous days made underfoot conditions heavy. The home side had two points on the board through a free from Vincent Horan and a point from play by Eanna Reidy before Moyvane registered a score. This came from their midfielder Dan Leahy. Shane O Reilly was quick to respond with a point a minute later.

Moyvane levelled matters with points from Colin Enright and Dan Leahy. Ballymac dominated the next ten minutes , scoring four points , all from the nippy corner forward Vincent Horan,  one from play and three from frees..Moyvane rallied and scored three points from play , these coming from Aiden Keane , Kevin Kennelly and Timmy Noonan. Two more points for the home side from Cian Counihan and Vincent Horan left the half time score at  Ballymac 0.9 to Moyvane 0.6.

The home side started the second half with two points from play from Jonathan Keane and Cathal De Lacy. Moyvane’s full forward , Timmy Noonan  cancelled out these with a point from play and a point from a free. Vincent Horan pointed a free for Ballymac before Daniel O Shea and Timmy Noonan exchanged points. Moyvane failed to score in the last twelve minutes while Ballymac tagged on two more points from the boot of Shane O Reilly and Cathal De Lacy.  The final score was Ballymacelligott  0.15  Moyvane  0.9

U16 Central District Game: Ardfert v Ballymacelligott

Ballymac u16’s travelled to Ardfert on Monday night to take on their very physical under 16 team. From the outset Ardfert were in control. In the first minute a long ball from the hosts into the Ballymac square was punched to the Ballymac net by Daragh Courteney. Ballymac were quick to respond with a goal from corner forward Daire Keane in the second minute. This was followed by two more points from David Rogers and Cillian Gallagher.

Nathan Driscoll and Cillian Gallagher exchanged points. Halfway through the first half, Ardfert’s ace forward, Gavin Dooley broke through the Ballymac defence to score their second goal. Thomas Healy increased their lead with a point form play. Ballymac registered three more scores before half time with a pointed free from Daire Keane and two points from play from Cillian Gallagher.

Ardfert had three more scores to leave the score at half time Ardfert 2.6 to Ballymac 1.6. On the restart Daire Keane and Thomas Healy exchanged points. Ten minutes into the second half Barry Lyons was pulled down in the Ardfert square and Josh O Keeffe made no mistake with the penalty. The sides were level for only one minute when Ardfert edged in front again with a point from Gavin Dooley.

The game changed completely in the next five minutes when Ardfert scored two goals and a point. Both sides managed one more point each before the final whistle to leave the final score at Ardfert 4.9 to Ballymac 2.8. Ballymac tried very hard throughout this game but found Ardfert to be very physical and fit.

BALLYMAC TEAM: Darragh Lynch , Eoin Culloty , Tadgh Brick , Kevin Lenihan, Diarmuid Lynch , Liam O Brien, Cathal Dunne, Joshua O Keeffe, James McDonnell, Daire Connor Chawke , David Rogers , Barry Lyons , Daire Keane, Cillian Gallagher , Dylan McHuge. Subs Used: Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Cian Godley, Brian Cassidy, Aidan O Brien.

FAOI 14

County League Div 2A Castlegregory 4-13 Ballymac 1-8 Played in very testing conditions for football our hosts managed the elements better than our boys. We had the aid of a strong breeze in the first half and played some nice football. We put over a number of points from Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Darragh Broderick, Jonathan Lowe.

Dara Leen and Sean Polman. A goal by Darragh Broderick was well taken. However our hosts were keeping the scoreboard ticking over also and one knew the change at half time would cost us as we didn’t register enough scores ourselves. HT 2-3 to 1-7 Ballymac ahead by 1.

That was as good as it got as Castlegregory with the wind at their backs took full advantage. They went ahead after two goals in quick succession. Our boys didn’t give up and our defence did some great work to keep us in the game. Our sole score in the second half was a point taken by Aidan. Conditions worsened as the half went on and favoured Castle even more. They added some long range points to run out comfortable winners. FT 4-13 to 1-8 Our next game is away to Fossa.

Panel: Eoghan Kenny, James Bailey, Bryan Cassidy, Ciaran Brosnan, Adam Joy, Adam Kelly, Darragh Sweeney, Cian Godley, Darragh Broderick 1-2, Denis Brosnan, Jonathan Lowe 0-1, Dara Leen 0-1, Aidan o’ Brien 0-1, Dylan Dunne Moriarty 0-2, Sean Horan, Cathal Culloty, Sean Polman Daamen 0-1, Tim Polman Daamen.

FAOI 6

U6 Academy had a large turn out on a very bad Sunday morning, well done to all the boys & girls. All had great fun learning their skills .Keep practicing with the gum shields. See you all in the Hall next Sunday.

U12 CAILINI

The girls began their season with a trip to Abbeydorney to play the locals in the North Kerry league division 1. The home side were much stronger on the night and ran out 6-06 to 2-06 winners. We followed that up with a game away to Castleisland Desmonds. The girls put in a very good performance and ran out 3-06 to 0-02 winners.

On Tuesday night last the girls played Legion in Killarney and came away with a win on a 2-05 to 1-02 scoreline. Full match reports are available on www.ballymacgaa.com. Next up is a trip to Beaufort on Tuesday evening at 7pm in the county league preliminary round 2.

U14 CAILINI

Our U14 Ladies team travelled to Fossa GAA Club in Killarney on Sunday evening for round two of the County League Division 2. After what was a glorious day, the weather for the second week running, took a turn for the worst and the game was played in appalling conditions. Credit to Fossa for facilities that coped well with the deluge although ball handling was very difficult.

The first half was dominated by Ballymac up front, quick ball in saw Cora Savage and Emily O’ Donohue notch up some fine scores between them while Kate O’Connor popped up twice in two minutes to poach two goals, the first a loose ball fisted to the net after Fossa’s keeper saved a point blank shot from Emily O’Donoghue & the second a tap in after some link up play with Cora Savage on the edge of the box.

Ballymac however were not having it all their own way and with the hosts boasting two Kerry U14’s in Maud Kelly & Sara Sheehan Fossa laid siege in the Ballymac half for periods but some great defending and some excellent goalkeeping saw Ballymac go into the interval with a comfortable 5 point lead. Ballymac 2-04 Fossa 0-5.

In a game of two halves Fossa, who emerged the hungrier, continued where they left off in the first half and again laid siege on the Ballymac goal. It was Fossa’s two aforementioned Kerry Girls who spearheaded the Fossa come back and once they got their nose in front, they never looked back. Ballymac to their credit fought right to the end and kicked four unanswered points in the closing stages. Through on goal on a couple of occasions the Fossa rearguard held fast to deny Ballymac the goals they needed to launch a comeback. Time eventually ran out and Fossa were deserved winners on the night. Final Score 4-10 to 2-08.

Scorers on the night for Ballymac were Kate O’Connor 2-0, Roisin Long 0-3, Cora Savage 0-2, Emily O’Donoghue 0-2 & Caroline Hurley 0-1.  Best on the night were Roisin Long giving a towering display at fullback and when she was moved out the field in the latter stages she kicked three fine points, playing as a wing forward and later as a wing back. Cait Rice also rose to the occasion giving a determined performance.

Special thanks to our band of supporters who braved the harsh conditions two weeks running. Our next game is scheduled for Sunday 17th April at home to Scartaglen

U16 CAILINI

Ballymacelligott U 16’s played St. Pats Blennerville in Blennerville on Easter Monday evening. The underfoot conditions were very trying and it was a credit to both teams the way they adopted to play some excellent open football.

St. Pats started the game very strongly tagging on a few early scores, but Ballymacelligott gradually worked their way back into the game to lead at halftime on a score line of 2 -7  to St. Pats 0-5.

The second half started in the same way with St. Pats on top but the hard work of all the Ballymac backs limited their scoring opportunities. As the half wore on Ballymac again took over and scored some excellent scores late on, to leave the final score St. Pats 1- 10 Ballymacelligott 4- 11.

This was a very good team performance with 8 different scorers and all 21 players contributing to the win.

BASKETBALL COMMUNITY GAMES

Our U11 mixed Basketball team took part in the Kerry Community Games finals on Sunday last.  In the morning session in Duagh we were victorious in all our games against Rock St Caherslee, Ballydonoghue/Lisselton, Duagh/Lyre and St. Brendans Oakpark.

These victories qualified us for a semi final against Currow Currans in Castleisland in the afternoon where we played some superb basketball to qualify for the final against Castleisland.  Although the final was a low scoring affair spectators were kept on the edge of their seats throughout due to the closeness of the game.  With just 20 seconds remaining Castleisland led 7 – 5.

Our team attacked seeking an equaliser however, luck was not on our side and the homeside extended their lead on the break with seconds remaining.  While our boys and girls were disappointed they can hold their heads high as they did themselves and their Parish proud on the day.  Great credit must be given to coaches Mike Broderick and David Long and Community games co-ordinator Sheila O Rahilly for their time devoted to coaching and organising the team.

Panel: Aoibhinn Broderick, Orla O Connor, Ciara Palmer, Ellie Quirke, Roisin Rahilly, Evan Boyle, Niall Collins, Tom Long, David Lucid, Micheal Savage.

CENSUS

The 2016 Census of Population will be held on Sunday April 24.  Over the coming weeks your Census Form will be personally delivered to your home and every person in Ireland, including visitors, on that night is obliged to complete it.  All Census Enumerators carry ID.  When you fill in your census form on this night, you’re giving information that will help to understand what Ireland needs for the future.

The importance of the census is that it accounts for everybody in the country, including visitors, no matter where they are. The results provide invaluable information on not only population size for the country as a whole, but also about the make-up of the population of towns, villages, and other small areas across the country. Further details can be had on census.ie

MINORS

MOYVANE/ TARBERT  2-7   BALLYMAC  0-15

Our first minor Co League game was away to Moyvane /Tarbert last Saturday evening. The pitch was somewhat heavy but at least the sun shone. A fine display by Tomas O Connor scoring 7 points in total (5 from play ) was one of the main reasons for this victory.

We got off to a poor start and were 1-2 to no score down after 5 minutes. Ballymac came more into the game but may have been better advised taking points rather than going for goals. The home side got another point before 3 points by Tomas gave us a grip in the game.

A fantastic point by Darrragh Regan from almost the sideline narrowed the lead to 2 points. Robert O Dowd pointed for us and Moyvane pointed from a free. Three more points by Tomas and one from Michael Hoare put us 2 points up ( 0-9 to 1-4 ) at half time.

On the restart Moyvane got two quick points with Robert pointing for us from a Michael Hoare pass.  Darragh Regan, Liam O Malley and Tomas all pointed for us but Moyvane broke through for a goal to cut our lead to a point with 10 minutes left. D Regan pointed for us and the home side also pointed.

Keelan brought off a fine interception before running over half the length of the field and pointing a fantastic score to win a tight game. Eddie Rogers, Micheal Reidy and Josh O Keeffe worked hard in defence with Eoin and Liam O,Malley also in fine form.

TEAM & SCORERS:

Garry Horan, Kevin O Connor, Eddie Rogers, Tadgh Brick, Josh O Keeffe, Micheal Reidy, Chris Lowe, Keelan Brosnan (0-1) Liam O Malley (0-1) Eoin O Malley, Tomas O Connor (0-7) Michael Hoare (0-1) Barry Lyons, Robert O Dowd (0-2) Darragh Regan (0-3). Subs Daire Keane, Cathal Dunne, Daire Chawke.

STRICTLY LOVE DANCING

Ballymac GAA Clubs inaugural Strictly Love Dancing event took place on Saturday evening last at Ballygarry House Hotel.  The event was a resounding success as our dancers provided some wonderful entertainment for the appreciative crowd present many of whom travelled long distances to attend.

A number of Club members put in a huge amount of work on the night and in the lead up to the event.  A special mention must be made for event co-ordinator OonaghO Rahilly who left no stone unturned to ensure all ran smoothly on the night.

Our Choreographer Honor Hurley must get enormous credit for the various dance routines she created for our couples which received a great reaction from an appreciative audience.  Our dance couple sponsors ACME Blinds, The Halfway Bar, Castlemeats Castleisland, Gortatlea Mart, The Blasket Bar, Cassidys Restaurant, Sean Ogs Bar, Lee Strand, O Brennan National School, The Earl of Desmond Hotel and IFAC Accountants must also be thanked for their contributions.

Our judges Josephine Fearns, Anne O Donnell, Tim Moynihan and Padraig McGillycuddy had the onerous task of analysing each couple.  MC Andrew Morrisey’s professionalism added greatly to the nights entertainment.  The programme which was designed by Eamon Moriarty received many favourable comments from those present on the night.

Last but not least to our 24 dancers who since they first came together on the 10th November last have given a huge commitment to ensuring that their dance routines would entertain on the night.  While all 12 couples were winners in their own right with their excellent performances congratulations to overall winners Kayrena Bolger and Denis Cronin.  Hopefully all enjoyed their preparation for and participation in the event.  Roll on Strictly 2017.

FAOI 14 ANNUAL REVIEW

Faoi 14

We commenced training on Wednesday 18th February 2015. Our management team consisted of Roland Rogers, Michael Broderick, Mike Dreelan and Michael Brosnan.

The boys were enthusiastic and disciplined right throughout the year and it was a pleasure to see them develop their skills and love of the gaelic football game.

We had over 40 sessions during the year between training and games. The attendance at these sessions was very high with Ciaran Brosnan having an outstanding 40/40 however others to show great commitment was Darragh lynch 39/40, Cian Godley 37/40 and Eoghan Kenny 36/40. In truth the majority of the lads attended over 30 sessions and this showed through their performances later in the year.

Competitions

We took part in County League Div 3, Central Region Div 2, Castleisland District and Feile blitz over the year.

First up was the County League.

We were placed in Division 3 alongside Glenflesk, Ardfert, Gneeveguilla, Senans and Firies.

For half our team this was their first year playing the full size field and it took us a while to get up to the required pace to compete at this level. In our early games the strength and power of our competitors was very evident and the lads got an early wake up call to life at u-14!

Tough games and defeats to Glenflesk, Gneeveguilla and Firies were character building games for the boys. They enjoyed victory over Ardfert and Senans and thus progressed to a semi-final against a very fancied Firies. Having been well beated by Firies in an earlier round the boys were adamant that they were going to put in a good hour in the semi. Indeed they held their own very well until half time, however increased pressure in the second told and Firies progressed to the final. Still the boys did very well to have got to a semi-final.

Castleisland District

After a month of training in May we commenced our district competition against Currow followed by games with Knock/ Brosna, Castleisland Desmonds, Mitchels and Scart/ Cordal. Again the physicality of some of these teams was very evident when our boys took to the field.

We played some lovely football during these games and had some tight games especially against Mitchels and Knock/ Brosna however we came up just short in both of these games while really could have gone either way.

Results meant that we played Scart/ Cordal in our district final.

This was played on 9th August in Scartaglin. They boys put in great effort over the hour and it was truly rewarded with a fine victory to take the title. After a tough year and many low points this was a fitting end for the boys.

Central Region

Played during July our Central Region competitors were Milltown/ Castlemaine , Dingle, Rahillys and Gaeltacht.

Again we have mixed fortunes in this competition MIlltown was very strong throughout and indeed won out the competition.

Dingle gave us a very good game in Ballymac and edged us in the end.

We had another tight game with our neighbours from Tralee, Kerins o Rahillys. Our final game v An Gaeltacht played in Gallurus will be remembered for all the wrong reasons with the game played in some of the worst weather conditions we have witnessed, the game was blown us with 15 minutes to go such were the conditions with Gaeltacht well in control having adapted to the inclement conditions far better than our boys.

So the curtain was brought down another year of football for our u-14s. Through the highs and lows the boys displayed great commitment and desire to represent Ballymacelligott GAA.

Our older boys will now progress to u-16 football in 2016 and we wish them well. For our younger boys on the panel they now know the challenges that lie ahead in their second year at u-14 and we know they are looking forward to it.

Panel

CUMANN NA MBUNSCOIL

Scoil Nuachabháil 4-7     Aghatubrid NS 0-7

The senior football team of Scoil Nuachabháil had an excellent, if hard-fought victory over a magnificent Aghatubrid side in the final of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol 4 to 5 teacher school competition.

In a game played in wintry conditions, the skill levels were of a very high standard from both sides. The South Kerry champions began brightly and took the lead with an excellent point. Scoil Nuachabháil rallied and hit back with a goal from Thomas O Connor and three well taken points, from Adam Joy, without reply. Aghatubrid finished the half with a flourish and scored two unanswered points to leave the scores at 1-3 to 0-3 at half time.

In the second half Scoil Nuachabháil gradually took control of the game. There was some wonderful displays of point taking from both teams but as the saying goes ‘goals win matches’ and in this case it was never more true. Three goals, including two from substitute Donal Daly and a long range effort from Garry Lynch, put the game beyond a gallant Aghatubrid team. Scoil Nuachabháil clinched their first major football trophy in the school’s history.

It was a fantastic occasion for the school and thanks to trainer James McCarthy and to the organisers of the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol competition for looking after the team so well. Many thanks also to the parents and pupils who travelled in huge numbers to Rathmore on such a wet evening.

Scoil Nuachabháil panel:

Cathal Ó Codlata , Seán Pollmann-Daamen, Séamus De Baille, Daragh Mac Suibhne (captaen), Gearóid Ó Loingsigh (1 -0) , Tim Pollmann-Daamen , Adam Ó Seoigh (0-6) ,  Adam Walker ,  Tomás Ó Conchúir (1-0),  Justin Mac Cárthaigh,  Adam Ó hArrachtáin

Subs:  Donal Ó Dálaigh (2-1),  Cáit Máire Ní Chonchúir,  Holly Ní Ghadhra , Seán De Rís ,  Eoin Ó Críodáin ,  Oisín Ó Seanacháin, Lorna Ní Dhálaigh

The Cumman na mBunscoil competitions have been of great benefit to our young footballers over the winter as they keep their skill level up.  As well as Scoil Nuachabhail great victory O Brennan and Clogher also competed while Andy Rogers and Mossie Brennan were part of the Caherleaheen team who reached the final of their section and Maurice O Connell was on Scoil Mhic Easmainn team who won out their section also.

CAILINI FAOI 16

This year for the first time we entered an U16 girls team in co League and North Kerry League . All the girls playing are actually U15 OR U14 so they are giving a years advantage to most teams they met . Credit to the girls though as they did their best to be competitive and represented the club quite well during the year .

In the Co League they played in Div 4 against Abbeydorney and Cromane on a home and away basis . In each of these games the girls played quite well and gave their opponents plenty to think about . However the extra year they were giving to them told in the end .
North Kerry League they played Dingle ,Abbeydorney and Kerins O Rahillys and again as in the Co League they fulfilled each fixture and played well .

The U15 C championship gave the girls something to aim for and played away to Beaufort in the semi final in October and came away with a 2-6 to 1-5 win to reach the final .

The final was delayed on a number of occasions for various reasons but was played on 15th Nov in horrendous conditions in Spa , a good first half saw both teams go in level at half time 1-3 to 0-6 a piece but on resumption of the 2nd half the wind increased significantly and we had trouble in trying to get the ball out from defense as a result , kick outs became a lottery as the wind played a big factor in this half . Spa ran out easy winners in the end but it wasn’t for the lack of effort from the Ballymac girls .

The one thing that was infuriating during the year for the girls and management was  the big gap between competitions and the Co League with Castlegregory pulling out didn’t provide enough games during the year and the 15th Nov is not a date were girls should be asked to tog out for a final , something for the co board to look at for 2016 .

Panel : Robin White , Tara Murphy , Claire Kenny , Roisin O Connell , Caoimhe Carroll , Niamh Rahilly , Aisling O Connell , Rose Ann O Shea , Therese Keane , Aine Rice , Rachel Godley , Leah O Neill , Mary Healy , Michalea Murphy , Elle Mc Elligott , Heather Jones , Maeve O Sullivan.

Many thanks to team coaches Teddy Murphy , James Godley & Anne Kenny for their time and commitment given to this group of girls.

CAILINI FAOI 14 ANNUAL REVIEW

This group of girls had unbelievable success this year , we knew at the beginning of the year we had potential in this group but they surpassed all our expectations !

On 21st March we began our Co League Div 3 campaign in Ballymac against Spa Killarney and won by a point on a scoreline of 0-11 to 2-4 . Our 2nd game was also at home in Ballymac against Finuge St Senans which the girls even with some regulars missing came from behind to win 1-8 to 0-6 scoreline .

Further wins over Kilcummin , Firies ,Beale , Ballyduff , Moyvane and finally away to Currow on a 1-5 to 1-4 scoreline saw us top the division to ensure a home semi final against Spa Killarney again .

It took till Aug 20th before this was played , 2 challenge games v John Mitchels were great preparation for this semi final and our girls played very well on the night to qualify for the final on a scoreline of 4-6 to 3-4 .

The final was played on 6th September in Knocknagoshel and the girls game a complete performance from no 1 to no 20 on the night to win 4-10 to 1-6 .

Paddy White chairperson of KLGFA was on hand to present the shield to captain Niamh Rahilly to the delight of team and the large Ballymac attendance .

Following the Co League win we’ve had a couple of weeks off prior to the beginning of the North Kerry . Having played and defeated  Ballyduff and Na Gaeil at home in the first  2 games , we’d 2 games in a week to finish off our year . Both games produced wonderful high scoring games in which we came out the right side of to cap off a fabulous year for this group of girls .

We completed the double as the girls annexed the North Kerry League Div 2 title  Sunday 4th we travelled to Listowel to play the locals in round 4 .

Ballymac 2-18   Listowel 4-7

Thursday 8th Oct we made the short trip to neighbours John Mitchels
Ballymac 5-9    John Mitchels 3-9

These are a special bunch of young ladies, a pleasure to coach & committed to the club . FAOI 13

Ballymac 3-04 Kerins O Rahillys 2-05

Played last Sunday morning in Caherslee Ballymac U13’s finished the season in fine style by winning the U13 Coiste Thra Lí Shield final by overcoming Kerins O Rahillys in an hard fought encounter. Ballymac started well & playing with a strong wind enjoyed the majority of possession but only went in at the break two points up. Kerins O Rahillys came into the game more in the second half and had us on the back foot for long periods and only for some last ditch defending the result could have been different. With ten minutes remaining our boys started to get control again and this was to prove the winning of the game with us picking off scores when we broke free.

Afterwards Colm Managan Chairman Coiste Thra Lí presented the shield to our captain Dylan Dunne Moriarty. In his speech Dylan thanked his team mates, referee, Kerins O Rahillys for a great game and also coaches Roland Rogers, Jack Culloty, Tommy Leen & Jer Lynch.
Also before the game started there was a minutes silence for our former President Jerome Mc Ellistrim who passed away recently.

CAILINI FAOI 13 – REVIEW
The under 13 girls played in the B championship competition which is the second grade for this age group . They were up against Legion in the first round in Ballymac playing some great football but it was in the next round which was the semi final which they really showed some great qualities. 22 of the girls made the trip to Templenoe on a very warm and humid evening to take on Kenmare district side Inbhear Sceine Gaels.

Against a physically stronger team, the girls showed heart, skill and determination to beat the locals, and leave them a bit shell shocked in the process! But this was only a semi final, and they had to do it all again against Desmonds in the final, which was played in Firies.

After an epic battle the girls won the trophy, and truly entertained all in attendance, even though it wasn’t good for the heart at times! The winning margin of one point  was a true reflection of the game, and alot of credit must go to Castleisland girls for this and making it such an encounter.

It was a case of the harder you try, the luckier you get. Caoimhe Carroll accepted the trophy on behalf of her teammates to great excitement. Mentors ; Kieran Savage , Donal Rahilly , Kieran O Connor.

CAILINI FAOI 12 – REVIEW
The under 12 girls panel for 2015 consisted of 30 players who all got game time throughout the year. A very healthy number indeed, and it was very encouraging as the year progressed, to see the majority of them stay the course.

The main objective for this age group is for each player to improve their skills and of course to have a bit of fun! As the year progresses, games get a bit more competitive, and they get to experience more of a challenge when they play.  The girls more than rise to the occasion and really show their pride in the jersey, and where they come from.

They began training in early February. They played their  first game in the North Kerry League against Na Gaeil, beating them, and went onto play Desmonds and Beale/Ballyduff  both home and away to win the North Kerry League Division 2 winning all games.

Then it was on to the county league preliminary rounds where the girls played Beaufort,Legion, Scartaglin,  Na Gaeil and Cromane. After winning four games from 5 they were entered in division 2A of the county league proper.

They started off on a winning note beating Spa at home and followed this with another victory over Castlegregory. Legion were up next and the girls came out on top again to go into our next game against local rivals Scartaglen full of confidence and they duly won this game after a great battle.

After winning four in a row we came up against a far superior Abbeydorney team in our final group game losing well in the end. Still the girls were in the semi final and were drawn away to Legion in Killarney.

Missing a few players  through holidays and injury, we lost by two points on the night . The girls couldn’t be faulted for effort on the night , leaving every ounce of energy on the pitch.

All in all it was a very good year for the girls, especially considering they were playing at such a high standard in the county at this age group.

The panel was as follows; Grainne Galvin , Millie Dunne, Roisin Long, Sophie O Donoghue, Ciara Palmer, Sinead Mc Keown, Cathy Palmer, Catriona Sommers, Emily O Donoghue, Cora Savage, Aylssa Leen, Laura Dunne, Aoife Galvin, Laura Dunne, Kate O Connor, Jade Riordan, Holly Geary, Emer Curran, Yvonne Hurley, Holly Geary , Ellie Linehan, Emma Leen, Bridget Sheehan, Roisin Rahilly, Geraldine Cassidy , Lorna Daly, Aideen Lynch , Laura O Shea, Shonagh Griffin , Laura O Shea, Katie Enright, Roisin Reidy.
Player of the year ; Emily O Donoghue.
Most improved Player ; Millie Dunne.
Many thanks to team mentors Kieran Savage, Kieran O Connor, Siobhan Leen and Mary Slattery for the huge amount of time and dedication they devoted to this squad.

JOHN MEMORIAL TOUNAMENT

On Sunday last our U10 teams were invited to the inaugural John Lynch Memorial Tournament hosted by Austin Stacks.  Churchill and Kilmacud Crokes completed the line up.

We entered three teams on the day and the standard was extremely high.  Our lads acquitted themselves very well, however it was the Dublin boys who took the honours on the day.  Many thanks to the Lynch family and the Austin Stacks Club for their invitation and their hospitality on the day.

CAILINI FAOI 10 ANNUAL REVIEW

Following the begining of academy in March we had a list of 23 players in this age group which was a fantastic number of players to start with . We played a number of blitz’s and had some very good games against other teams .

We played John Mitchel’s in our first day out and even with conditions not great for football on the day our girls played very well on the day . As the game progressed we proved the better of the two teams . The older U10s on the day played quite well and the younger ones showed some potential in particular Kate Collins , Alice Brosnan, Aoife Sweeney and Rachel Creedon .

Back to academy on Sunday mornings for a while we could see good progression in the skill levels . Our next game was v Keel who were fielding an U10 girls team for the first time , again Roisin & Ciara played very well but Orla O Connor gave a big display in defence on the day , Niamh Lynch in the forwards showed well also .

We then hosted Leigon girls and this proved to be a great game against 2 very evenly matched teams . Abby Leahy , Ella Quirke ,Rachel Griffen and Aleia Weiss did very well in this game as did Roisin Raggett who got 3 points on the day . Rachel Creedon bagged 2-2 and Kerry Hennesy played well at mid field.

On June 14th we entered a team in the North Kerry Ladies U10 Blitz in Abbeydorney we played John Mitchels , Abbeydorney and Corcha Duibhne . On each game the girls showed great teamwork and no little skill to prevail on each occasion. Roisin Rahilly , Ciara Palmer provided the leadership and drive and others followed . Aoibhinn Broderick,Sarah West, Labhoise Mansfield , Laura Kelly and Isuelt O Brien made good contributions on the day.

We hosted Austin Stacks a week later and again the Ballymac girls prevailed over the town team .  Orla O Connor was great in the full back position, Kerry Hennesy showed well in goals and in defense. Midfield players of Ciara Palmer, Kate Collins and Geraldine Cassidy were outstanding and getting a few scores as well. Laura Sugrue got a goal and 3 points, Rachel Creedon bagged a goal and a point. Abbey Leahy, Roisin Raggett, Ella Quirke, Aoibhinn Broderick and Rachel Griffen had good moments in both attack and defense. Niamh Lynch had a great last 15mins playing midfield and the younger girls Alice Brosnan, Maggie Scanlon, Labhaoise Mansfield & Sara West tried hard.  Laura Kelly who gave a very assured and improved performance on the morning.

We played Firies then but proved far too strong for them on the day , a few weeks later in August we’d a busy weekend taking part in the Duagh North Kerry Blitz on Sat and on Sunday traveled to Miltown on Sunday to play their girls in a challenge game. They put in great performances on Sat in Duagh playing 5 games against Duagh , Abbeydorney 1 , Abbeydorney 2 , Listowel & Desmonds. The improvement and skill level shown by this group of players was fantastic . Geraldine Cassidy was very impressive during this blitz as was Laura Sugrue.

On the  Sunday they played Miltown despite they having played Saturday also they did very well again and had tough competitive game there.

We finished off the year hosting Miltown and travelling into Austin Stacks , ( where Aoife Sweeney returned with aplomb) and again performed very well in both games . It was great to see the improvement in all the girls as the year progressed .

The improvement in these girls throughout the year was mainly due to the mentors Donal Rahilly, Mike Quirke, Senan Ragget, John Creedon and Roy Geary who hours of dedication to this group is reaping rich dividends.

U10 panel …. Abbey Leahy ,Alexia Weiss , Aoibhinn Brodrick, Aoife Sweeney , Ciara Palmer ,Charlotte Geary, Rose Brosnan , Geraldine Cassidy ,Iseult O Brien , Kate Collins , Kerry Hennesy , Labhaoise Mansfield , Laura Sugrue ,Laura Kelly ,Maggie Scanlon , Ella Quirke , Rachel Griffen , Rachel O Shea , Sara West ,Roisin Rahilly , Roisin Raggett , Rachel Creedon ,Niamh Lynch

SIOBHAN COTTER BLITZ

The Siobhan Cotter Memorial Blitz took place on Sunday the 11th of October in Churchill. The blitz saw our under 7, 8, 9, and 10 panels playing on the day. Our opponents on the day were Churchill, Ardfert, and Austin Stacks.

Our U10’s began with a superb win over Austin Stacks however we went down to a better Churchill team in our second game.  In our final group game against Ardfert our lads put in another sterling performance to record a brilliant victory.  Panel : T Palmer, J O Connor, M Culloty, A Horgan, P Heffernan, D Galvin, S Rice, N Collins, M Prendergast, R Lowe, E O Brien, J Orgonbagor.

Our U 9’s had three tough games coming up short against Austin Stacks and Churchill but we saved our best football until last with an excellent victory over Ardfert.  Panel : C Martin, S Gilroy, W O Donoghue, A Riordan, J Burke, M Savage, K Lynch, J Slattery, D Lucid, C White, T Leen, T Long.

A great days football was enjoyed by our under 7 & 8 footballers . Best on the day were Michael Quirke, Paddy Lucid, Padraig Reidy, Mairtin Mc Kivergan, Matthew Rodgers, and Luke Griffin.

At the end of the tournament we were level on points with Austin Stacks which necessitated a play off which saw a joint U8 and U9 team from both clubs play each other.  The town side proved stronger in this game and this result saw Austin Stack receive the Siobhan Cotter Cup.  Many thanks to the Churchill Club for their invitation to the Blitz and the hospitality extended to us on the day.

There will be no academy for the Ballymac under 8 and 10 boys next weekend. The last academy of the year for this group will take place on Sunday the 25th of October in Ballymac at 11am. Well done to all on a great year.

CAILINI FAOI 15

Ballymac 2 – 5   Beaufort 2 – 3
Our U15 team played in the last competition of the year Sat evening last and secured a final spot . This was a good display from the team who have actually played U16 this year despite all being underage next year again and it was a win that was deserved .
Goals in either half from Aine Rice and Mary Healy helped us on our way , both teams defenses were quite strong on the night . We led at half time by 1- 2 to  0-2 our 2 points coming from Rachel Godley and Aine Rice . We pulled away to lead by 2-5 to 0-2 with 10mins remaining with points from Micheala Murphy , Mary Healy and Elle Mc Elligott .
2 late goals for Beaufort and a point from a free finished the scoring .
We await the winners of Spa/Abbeydorney .

Following the recent Co League win we’ve had a couple of weeks off prior to the beginning of the North Kerry . Having played and defeated  Ballyduff and Na Gaeil at home in the first  2 games , we’d 2 games this week to finish off our year . Both games produced wonderful high scoring games in which we came out the right side of to cap off a fabulous year for this group of girls . We have completed the double as the girls have annexed the North Kerry League Div 2 title .

Ballymac 2-18   Listowel 4-7

Sunday 4th we travelled to Listowel to play the locals in round 4 .

This was a cracker with both teams going for the jugular . Despite playing very well in the first half we went in at half time on level terms . We seemed to get punished heavily for small mistakes made . However in the 2nd half our girls eliminated those mistakes and our superior fitness was telling . Robin was very good in goals , Niamh had a storming 2nd half and along with Eve and Maeve put up the shutters at the back .

Aisling and Therese played very well against 2 very good opponents , our forwards were exceptional on the night Elle Mc Elligott , Catriona Sommers and Cora Savage did most of the damage on the scoreboard but the half forward line of Aine and Cait Rice and Lisa Curran’s high workrate ensured good supply of ball and quality passing . Sinead suffered a hand injury and we wish her a speedy recovery

Team & scorers
Robyn White , Eve Creedon , Niamh Rahilly , Sinead Mc Keown , Roisin Long ,Caoimhe Carroll ,Maeve O Sullivan , Aisling O Connell 1-0 , Therese Keane , Cait Rice , Aine Rice 1-1, Lisa Curran 0-1 , Catriona Sommer 0-6 , Elle Mc Elligott 0-5 , Cora Savage 0-5 . Sub Kate O Connor for Sinead

Ballymac 5-9  John Mitchels 3-9
Thursday 8th Oct we made the short trip to neighbours John Mitchels
Another shootout and we again go home by 2 goals to clinch the North Kerry Div 2 title . John Mitchels played very well with  Eva Buckley and Rachel Kilgallon causing us all sort of problems in the first half with their strong running and accurate kicking .

Elle Mc Elligott kicked  2-3 in this period and Catriona Sommers got 1-1 . We regrouped at halftime , made a few substitutions and positional changes and the  applied  themselves much better in the 2nd half . Goals from Catriona Sommers and Cora Savage were important but the main difference on the night were 3 very good saves from Robyn . On each occasion she was brave and stood big to deny the Mitchels forward . Aisling  and Therese came good in the 2nd half too as did Roisin Long , Maeve O Sullivan & Caoimhe Carroll . Subs Cora Savage , Emily O Donoghue , Cathy Palmer , Elle Linehan and Jade Riordan all contributed on the night .  We celebrated Cait Rice’s 13th birthday afterwards who also Captain’d the team on the night .

Team & Scorers
Robyn White , Eve Creedon , Niamh Rahilly , Sophie O Donoghue , Roisin Long ,Caoimhe Carroll ,Maeve O Sullivan , Aisling O Connell 0-2 , Therese Keane , Cait Rice , Aine Rice 0-2 , Lisa Curran , Catriona Sommer 2-1 , Elle Mc Elligott 2-4 , Elle Sugrue. Subs Emily O Donoghue , Cora Savage 1-0 , Cathy Palmer , Elle Linehan & Jade Riordan .

Christy Leen pointed a free for Ballymac and Cian O Connor pointed a free for Desmonds. Five minutes later Christy Leen edged the Ballymac in front again with a pointed free.

This was increased to two points when Vincent Horan pointed from play. The last five minutes belonged to Desmonds , they scored 1.3 — points from Pat Fitzgerald , Maurice O Connell, Sean Lynch and a goal from Thomas Lynch. This left the half time score at  Ballymac 1.6 to Desmonds 2.7

Ballymac 2 – 11    Skellig Rangers 2 – 10

Ballymac gained 2 valuable Co. League points with a hard earned victory over Skellig Rangers in their Co. League played in ideal conditions in Ballymac on Saturday evening last.

It was the away side who made the better start with a goal in the second minute and by the 15th minute led on a scoreline of 1 – 3 to 0 – 3. Ballymac scorers were Vincent Horan, Mossie Shanahan and Aidan Breen (free).

The South Kerry side further extended their lead with a goal in the 20th minute but Ballymac hit back with a goal of their own when Daniel O Shea fisted a Christy Leen delivery to the net.  We could have added to our goal tally in this half but for 2 brilliant saves by the Skellig goal keeper.  Half time score Skellig Rangers 2 – 6  Ballymac 1 – 7.
The away side further extended their lead at the start of the 2nd half but two excellent points from the boot of Christy Leen from frees kept Ballymac in touch.  Padraig McCarthy was at the end of an excellent passing movement to finish the ball to the net and bring the game level on the 40th minute.  The same player put Ballymac ahead with a point but Skellig Rangers came back to level.

The loss of influencial mid fielder Mossie Shanahan to a black card was a blow to the home side but Padraig McCarthy crowned a superb individual performance with the winning point in the 57th minute.  The Ballymac defence came under immense pressure in the final minutes but held firm to ensure a Ballymac victory on the night.

BALLYMAC 5-8  LISTOWEL EMMETS 2-7

An extraordinary second half performance and plenty vocal support were the main factors in winning this county league trophy in brilliant sunshine at Connolly Park.

After a difficult first half the boys gave one of their best performances in some time to win comfortably in the end.Ml Hoare got our first point quickly followed by a Dara Reagan point after a fine run by Keelan.  Listowel got 3 points in succession and Liam O Malley pointed for us after a good passing movement. Two Listowel goals in a few minutes had us 6 points adrift and with little going right for us.

Dara Reagan pointed from a free after Dara Keane was fouled.  Ml Hoare and Dara Reagan (F) pointed for us with Listowel also getting two points. After a  fine run by M Hoare the his shot seemed to be going wide but was rescued by Dara Reagan who came in along the endline and finished to the net, a really vital score.

LIstowel again pointed but despite not playing well we were only 3 points ( 2-6 to 1-6) behind at half time.

Numerous switches and changes were made by Ballymac at the break which paid dividens as the game went on. We started the half with more purpose but scores were hard to come by.

With ten minutes gone Eoin O Malley put brother Liam through for a fine goal the captain delivering when it was most needed Listowel replied with a point, incredibly their only score of the half .

Josh, Chris Lowe, Eddie and D Keane were tackling very hard now and forcing our opponents into long range shooting. Cillian Gallagher won possession passed to the tireless Ml Hoare who made for goal and laid off to Dara Reagan whose shot came off the crossbar to the waiting David Rodgers.

He was immediatedly fouled with Keelan converting the resultant penalty on the few occasions Listowel got close Ross, Cathal and Brian in goals were well capable of dealing with them while Tadhg Brick made some timely interceptions.

A monster point by Keelan from out on the sideline had our supporters in full voice. With 20 minutes gone Keelan was again on hand to flick a Dara Reagan free to the net leaving no way back for listowel.

Eddie Rodgers got our final point and soon afterwards the ref blew full time much to the delight of Ballymac players, mentors, and a large crowd of supporters. Reggie Griffin presented the winning trophy to a delighted captain Liam O Malley who thanked the mentors for their work throughout the year.

Well done and congratulations to the mentors Gene O Keeffe, Tony Silles, John Creagh, Willie Costelloe and Martin Lowe who had them in fine fettle on the night

FAOI 14

Our U14’s played their last game of their year on Sunday evening last. We played in Scartaglin before some good support and ideal conditions. As with previous games it took our lads some time to get to the tempo of the game. We pressed hard and should have registered more on the scoreboard but for some wayward shooting.

Our half forward line were unable to find their inside men and this was an area that required some adjustment along with midfield where we were having difficulty getting onto ball.

Half- time Scart /Cordal 2-2. Ballymac 0-6. A good talking to at half-time and with their season on the line the boys duly responded. We had to endure going a further 2 points down before our lads kicked into gear. David at full back and Dylan at midfield turned the tide.  Our backs tightened up, our midfield pressed and our forwards were flowing with good moves.

This was all paying dividends and in the space of 15mins we had put 2-5 up on the scoreboard. Scart responded and drove forward for the goal that would get them back into the game their but their closest effort was cleared off the line by Ciaran.

Darragh Leen was a menace in the full forward line and he made it very difficult on the Scart rear guard. With time running out we kicked on with Darragh Lynch being introduced and he won a great throw up ball.

The final whistle blew to great jubilation. Diarmuid Lynch captain on the evening accepted the winner’s trophy on behalf of his team. A well deserved victory for the boys and recognition for their perseverance in a tough year of results.

BALLYMAC 3-19  John Mitchels 1-06

A fine total of 18 scores from play helped us to victory over Mitchels at home last Thursday evening. This was a comfortable win with Ballymac on top in all sectors of the field.

Points from ML Hoare, Josh, Dara Keane & Keelan had us ahead 4 points to one midway through the first half. A goal effort by Mitchels was cleared off the line by Eoghan O’Malley who soloed to halfway before laying off to Josh who made further headway before passing to Dara Reagan who pointed.

This was a very inspirational score. However Mitchels responded with a fine goal. Further Points from Ml. Hoare , D. Keane, and Liam O Malley extended our lead two further points inside a minute, one from almost the corner flag, came from Dara Keane who scored six from play overall.

Keelan got our final point of the half with Mitchels also getting two late points. Half time score Ballymac 0-11  Mitchels 1-3.

Into the second half and Barry Lyons pointed from a free. A few minutes later D. Reagan was fouled on his way to goal with Keelan converting the penalty.

Two further points each from D. Reagan and D. Keane and one from Josh put us well ahead. Dara Keane then won a Mitchels kick out and drove forward. He passed to Dara Reagan who found the net.

Almost immediately Barry Lyons got possession and we scored another goal. Josh and Eddie Rodgers got our final points with Mitchels responding with 3 late points. This result gives us a home semi final against Rathmore next Wednesday the 5th of August at 7.00pm.

Kerins O’Rahillys 7-9         Ballymac4-7 .

We played in difficult weather conditions in this third round game at Ballyrickard.  Kerins O’ Rahillys having won the toss played with the aid of a very strong wind and put up a score of 6-7 in the first half.We were finding it difficult to get the ball up the field against such a breeze. However we continued to try in the second half and we came more and more into the game. Liam drove forward on a number of occasions and our inside line worked very hard. The lads had some good passages of play but ran out of time to pull the game back. Best on night were Liam, Bryan, Dean, and David. We play Ardfert in our next outing.

SPA 1-3  BALLYMAC 2-8

We resumed our County League campaign away to Spa last Wednesday evening. A solid defensive performance was the key to this victory.

We limited the opposition to two scores in each half and none from play overall. Spa were well on top for most of the first half but our defence coped well, with Eddie Rodgers and Tadhg Brick in fine form.

With 20 minutes gone we were 1-1 to 0-1 behind. Dara Keane had pointing for us with their goal coming from a penalty. When a Dara Reagan effort came back off the crossbar Keelan was on hand to add another point after which Dara Reagan pointed from a free.

Josh won possession from a Dara Reagan free and headed goal ward before passing to Dara Chawke who was fouled in the square. Keelan converted the resulting penalty and Josh added another point. Amazingly we had turned it around and lead at half time 1-4 to 1-1.

Spa pointed from a free shortly after the restart. With ten minutes gone Tadhg Brick disrupted an opposition attack; Keelan won possession and took off on one of his trademark runs finishing to the net.

A further few goal chances were missed while the goalposts denied us on a few more occasions. Further points by Liam O Malley, Dara Reagan, Josh, and Keelan finished our scoring to give us our third victory in a row. Our next game is at home to John Mitchel’s on the 29th of July.

A goal by the mid Kerry side mid way through the second half was the decisive score in a close game which saw them qualify for the final.  Our lads can be proud of their efforts on the day and all players gave 100% commitment.

Many thanks to Miltown/Castlemaine for their invitation to this Blitz which was very well organised.  Panel: T. Plamer, M. Culloty, L. Horgan, D. Galvin, D. Lucid, A. Riordan, S. Rice, N. Collins, M. In the first game we overcame Moyvane easily but found Doora Barefield a different proposition in the second game losing out in the end by two points after a great secondhalf performance. Final score was 2-4 to 2-2.In the final game of the group stages we took on Kerins O’Rahillys and beat them on a scoreline of 2-5 to 1-3.

This meant we finished second in our group and all teams which finished second in each group played each other in two semi finals. We were pitted against local rivals Desmonds and after a great battle we lost out by two points.

The girls gave everything throughout the day and could hold their heads high. Teams and scorers throughout the day were as follows ; Ellie Linehan , Roisin Long  , Sophie O Donoghue  , Eve Creedon , Sinead Mc Keown , Cathy Palmer , Caoimhe Carroll, Emily O Donoghue (1-5)  , Kate O Connor  , Lisa Curran (3-1) , Laura Dunne, Ellie Mc Elligott, Cora Savage (5-7) ,Aoife Galvin (1-0), Millie Dunne, Jade Riordan.

SENIOR TEAM

Despite a superb second half performance, our senior team lost to All Ireland Junior Champions Brosna by a point in their Co. League team played in Ballymac on Saturday evening last.

The away side had the better of the first half and the goal midway through the half saw them go in at half time with a 1 6 to 0 3 lead.  Ballymac scorers were Aidan Breen 0 – 2 and Vincent Horan 0 – 1.

Whatever Stephen, Bridget and Johnny said to the lads at half time certainly had the desired effect as Ballymac came out for the second half with all guns blazing and had the lead trimmed back to 1 point by the 20th minute courtesy of 5 Aidan Breen points (0 4 frees),  Brosna then extended their lead with 2 pointed frees.

Our lads never gave up and a superb individual Aidan Breen point following one of his trademark runs and another by Vincent Horan once again left the minimum to the side.

However, the score which could have given us a deserved draw didn’t materialise and it was the Brosna boys who were celebrating at the final whistle.  While our lads were disappointed with the end result they showed great character to come back and almost snatch a draw on the night.

Team: P O Connor, T J Casey, C Reynolds, B O Donnell, M Sweeney, C Counihan, N O Shea, M Shanahan, K O Shea, L Sweeney, A Breen, E Reidy, P McCarthy, D O Shea, V Horan.

BALLYMAC 5-13      GLENFLESK 5-11

Following an excellent training session with senior manager Steven o’ Brien we were hopeful of continuing our good start to the county league against Glenfesk at home. We got off to a good start with points from Dara Reagan, Josh, and Dara Keane inside the first five minutes.

However Glenflesk soon took over and mid-way through the first half we were 2-5 to 0-3 behind. However we responded with a well worked move involving Tadgh Brick and ML. Hoare which was finished to the net by Keelan.

The visitors got 2 more points while ML Hoare and Dara Reagan pointed for us. Barry Lyons found Josh with a free and he headed goal ward before laying off to Dara Keane who scored a goal from close range. Glenflesk responded by scoring two goals inside two minutes, while Keelan and Dara Reagan pointed for us to leave us  to leave the half time score 2-7 to 4-7.

Positional changes and substitutions were made at half time which improved our situation. Eoin O’Malley and Dara Reagan pointed for us with Glenflesk also getting two points. We responded well when Keelan was on hand to flick the ball to the net from close range.

David Rodgers was introduced and weaved his way through for a goal almost immediately to tie the scores. Josh scored a further point for us but our opponents went up field and scored 1-1 .However Davy Rodgers was subsequently fouled in the square and Keelan converted the penalty to again tie the scores.

Dara Keane and ML Hoare pointed for us with Glenflesk also pointing. With time running out Josh pointed to secure another hard earned victory. A really competitive game played in Great Spirit. Our next outing is away to Spa in mid July.

Ballymac 3-15 Kenmare 3-03

The Ballymac U12 gold team won division 1B in fine style on home soil last Sunday evening, From the outset our forwards ripped through Kenmare with scores coming from James Kenny, Gary Lynch and Mark o’Connor. Andy Rodgers controlled midfield from the

start to finish and set up score after score. What can we say about our backs, from the moment the whistle went they hounded the Kenmare forwards and didn’t give them an inch of space, Luke O’Connell, Jamie Sugrue, Eoin Creedon and Darragh Cassidy were outstanding, Half way through the first half we introduced our bench and the boys did everything that was asked off them.

Oisin Shanahan, Luke Mc’Caffrey  and Jack Mc’Elligott fought for every ball. Mossie Brennan took over in goals for the missing Kieran Slattery and he didn’t put a foot wrong. Throughout the second half our other two forwards got in on the act with fine score from the two Adam’s Walker & Wharton.

All in all this has been an outstanding season for the boys as they finished both phase 1&2 unbeaten and won both division 1&3. Really well done to all the players on a fantastic season.

Diarmuid O’ Brien Memorial Football Blitz.

Last Saturday we travelled to Newmarket to take part in the Annual Diarmuid o’ Brien memorial football blitz. We were placed in group one along with Dromtarriffe, Newmarket, & Sliabh Luachra Gael’s. First up was Sliabh Luachra followed by Dromtarriffe & Newmarket. We had comfortable victories in all three games and conceded only three points in total  and topped the group. Currow came through group two with wins over Firies, St. Peters & Croke Rovers.

The final pairing was Ballymac v Currow, and what a final it turned out to be. From the throw in both teams got down to business and with Ballymac settling quicker we went into a four by lead.

Currow pulled back to draw level before we took the lead again to go in at the break two points up. Both teams came out for the second half all guns blazing and what a ding dong half we had with the teams been level on five occasions in this half. With one minute to go we had a four point lead but with Currow throwing everything at us they scored a goal in the first minute of injury time.

With three more minutes of injury time to play the momentum had switched to Currow who put us under severe pressure. However through some last ditch defending and great goalkeeping we held out for a one point win. The final score was Ballymac 3-06 Currow 3-05.

There was great scenes of joy after from the Ballymac players and management as it has been six years since we last won this competition.

Great credit must go to our players with their never say die attitude and their determination to succeed. In goals on the day was Adam O Keefe, backs were  Cathal Culloty, Luke O’ Connell, Darragh Sweeney and James Bailey.

In midfield we had Thomas O’ Connor, Sean & Tim Pollman Dammen. Up front we had Andy Rogers, Denis Brosnan, Bryan Godley, Seán Horan & Adam Joy.

Great credit must go to Tim Pollman Dammen who was presented with the man of the match award after his excellent performance in the final.

Afterwards captain James Bailey accepted the Diarmuid O’ Brien memorial trophy on behalf of his team mates & great credit must go to James on the wonderful speech he gave in which he thanked the O’ Brien family, Newmarket GAA Club for a wonderful tournament, his team mates, Currow for a brilliant game in the final the coaches of Jack Culloty, Liam Sweeney, Liam Joy, Declan O Connell & Jer Lynch. Great achievement and well done to all.

KILGARVAN/TOUSIST 0-14         BALLYMAC 3-9

We came away from Kilgarvan with two valuable league points after a hard earned victory over the local side in our first County League outing.

The home side were on top for most of the first half while the second half was keenly contested. Eoin o’ Malley pointed for us early in the first half but the home side responded with 4 points.

Midway through the half Barry Lyons put Dara Reagan through but he was pulled down which resulted in a penalty.

Keelan scored a goal from the penalty spot to tie the scores. A further two points from Dara Keane and one each from Dara Reagan and Eoin O’Malley completed our first half scoring. Kilgarvan added a further 5 more points in the first half.

The half time score was Kilgarvan/Tousist 0-9 Ballymac 1-5. Into the second half and Barry pointed for us after 5 minutes and Michael Hoare gave us the lead with another point. Kilgarvan tied the scores again before Dara Reagan scored a goal after good approach work by Keelan and Michael Hoare.

The local side responded by scoring 4 unanswered points inside ten minutes. However with five minutes left Michael Hoare pointed to tie the game again. Liam O’ Malley added another point.

From the kick out Barry Lyons won possession and sent in a high ball which deceived the goalie and ended up in the net with only a minute left on the clock.

This score ensured that Ballymac got their County league campaign off to the ideal start. Next up are Glenflesk at home on the 24th of June.

Ballymac 5-12 Austin Stacks 4-06

We played Austin Stacks at home on Tuesday the 16th of June in Rd. 3 of the Div 1 County League. After a great battle with our near neighbours we came out on top on a score line of Ballymac 5-12 Austin Stacks 4-06. Great Credit must be given to our lads who put in a super performance on the night.

FAOI 12 Ballymac Gold team

Ballymac Gold team lined out against Austin Stacks without two of their stalwarts Mossie Brennan & Mark O’ Connor.

The boys promised before the game they would dig deep and put in a special effort to keep their 100% win record for their missing team mates. They kept their word! The first half was nip and tuck with a great goal and a point from Alfonzo Marquez and points from Donal Daly and Adam Wharton leaving Ballymac trailing 1-2 to 1-6 at halftime.

This was a game of two halves as a great goal from Gary Lynch, an excellent score from the impressive Oisin Shanahan, three points from the excellent James Kenny, and a point from Adam Walker left Ballymac up one point with the last kick of the game remaining.

Donal Daly took that kick from the side-line and slotted it over to leave Ballymac as eventual winners 2-11 to 3-6. A fitting victory to mark Alfonzo Marquez’s last game before returning to Spain! Muchas Gracias Alfonzo.

SENIOR TEAM

Our Senior team played away to Annascaul on Saturday evening last.  The home side opened the scoring in the 4th minute.  They increased their lead to 2 points before Ballymac drew level with points from Aidan Breen and Cian Counihan.

Disaster struck for Ballymac in the second quarter with James Leen going off injured and Cian Counihan black carded.  A goal and 2 points by Annascaul put them in the driving seat but on the stroke of half time Padraig McCarthy kicked over a point for Ballymac leaving the half time score Annascaul 1 – 4  Ballymac 0 – 3.

Ballymac upped their performance in the second half and reduced the deficit to 2 points within 12 minutes.  Ballymac were a little unlucky with two shots for gaols coming off the cross bar.

Scores for Ballymac in the second half were Aidan Breen 0 – 2, Vincent Horan 0 – 2, 1 point a piece for Mossie Shanahan and Padraig McCarthy.  Annascaul added 4 points in this half to leave the final score Annascaul 1 – 8  Ballymac 0 – 9.

Ballymacs next game in this competition is on 27th June 2015 when we welcome Brosna to Ballymac.

JUNIORS

Our Junior team went down to Clounmacon on a scoreline of 3 – 9 to 1 – 11 on Friday evening last in Ballymac.  Despite this loss we should still qualify for the semi finals of this competition which will be played in the coming weeks.

ERIC MASON BLITZ

Our annual tournament took place on Saturday the 13th of June on a beautiful day for football.  Ballymac were joined by St Pats, Listowel Emmets, Kilcummin St. Senans and Castleisland Desmonds on the day.

Some great football was played on the day which is a tribute to all the participating clubs. Ballymac and St. Pats started the proceedings and after a close game Ballymac edged the contest to win by 0-9 to 0-6.

In the next match Desmond’s got the better of Senans and they also defeated Kilcummin to win out their group.

The loser of Ballymac v Listowel would decide who would play Desmond in the first semi-final, whilst the winner would  play Kilcummin in the other semi-final.  In the first semi-final between Ballymac and Listowel Emmets Ballymac got off to a quick start with three unanswered points.

With half-time approaching Listowel got a 45 which fell just short, but the resultant follow up got Listowel back into the game with a fortuitous goal.

The sides were level going into the 2nd half but Listowel got the decisive 2nd goal with 5 min to go. Ballymac didn’t give up and a shot by David Rogers came off the post with the alert Barry Lyons following up to score a goal which tied the game again.

However a great late point from distance by Listowel was to break the Ballymac hearts and give Listowel the win by the narrowest of margins. Not out of it yet our Semi- Final as against Castleisland Desmonds.

A tough game ensued and the strength of Desmonds team showed as they ran out winners 2-5 to 1-3. The final pairing was now in place with Desmonds taking on Listowel who had accounted for Kilcummin in the other semi-final. An excellent final ensued where neither side could be faulted for their endeavor.

There were some beautiful passages of play by both teams and at the final whistle the teams could not be separated.  Hence an extra 5 mins a side was palyed but again this could not separate the teams.

It was decided to play another 5 min a side saw the more physical Desmonds side get ahead with a well taken goal and they closed out the game to claim the cup. Presentations were made by Adrian and Anna Mason to the Castleisland Desmonds players, Listowel Emmets players, referees, and to the player of the tournament Sean Mc’Carthy from Listowel Emmets.

All in all this was a resoundingly successful tournament, and special thanks to all involved in making it so.

We welcomed neighbours Scartaglen to Ballymac on Thursday last in round four of the county league.

A great start by the girls in the first fifteen minutes saw them lead by 0-4 to 0-1, three points from Cora Savage and one from Emily O Donoghue. Scartaglen kept trying hard and ended the half trailing by one point, after getting through for a goal from their powerful midfielder Grainne Walsh.

Cora and Emily chipped in with another point each to leave us ahead by one at halftime 0-6 to 1-2 . The secondhalf was a tight affair with Scartaglen dominating possession but failing to take their points,  instead getting two goals to put them ahead.

Our girls responded great with a goal from Catriona Sommers and a point each from Cora, Emily and Catriona to leave us victorious by the minimum at the final whistle. They showed great spirit when things seemed to be going against them.

This leaves the girls second in the table and qualified for the quarter finals of the competition which will be played on Tuesday 23rd June. Team; Grainne Galvin , Ellie Linehan, Roisin Long, Sophie O Donoghue, Ciara Palmer, Cathy Palmer, Laura Dunne, Sinead Mc Keown, Emily O Donoghue , Aoife Galvin, Catriona Sommers, Roisin Rahilly, Emer Curran, Cora Savage, Aylssa Leen. SENIOR TEAM

Na Gaeil travelled to a wet and windy Ballymacelligott for round 4 of the Division 3 county league on Sunday last.

The visitors settled into the conditions first and kicked 3 points without reply from the boot of D. Carmody. This good start was mainly due to their dominance in the middle through D. O Connor.

With some strong running from the likes N O’Shea , A. Breen and V. Horan Ballymac got themselves back into the game and were unlucky not be go three points in front  with the game level after T. Culloty saved a penalty from the boot of A. Breen.

However Ballymac kicked on from there and outscored Na Gaeil for the rest of the half with points from A. Breen, P.McCarthy, M. Shannahan and a great solo effort from E. Reidy. Ballymac went in at half time 0-8 to 0-6 in in front.

The second half started at a frantic pace with the visitors kicking 4 points and Ballymac responding by kicking 2 in the opening 10 minutes of the half. With the home side struggling to keep up with Na Gaeil’s pace and movement L. Sweeney stood up for Ballymac with some strong running with ball in hand which led to a point from P. Mc’Carthy.

In the 43rd minute Na Gaeil took advantage of sloppy defending to move the ball quickly and score a goal to put 5 points between the teams. This however proved to be the visitors last score of the game.

Over the last quarter Ballymac slowly closed the gap. A disallowed Ballymac goal only seemed to make the home team more determined to get something from the game, and this was achieved with the last kick of the game as P. McCarthy kicked over the equalizing point from a free. The game finished Ballymacelligott 0-15 Na Gaeil 1-12.

BALLYMAC 1-5 CORDAL / SCART 2-9

Scartaglen was the venue for this Castleisland district league final in which we played our local rivals Cordal/Scartaglen. This was always going to be a difficult task against strong opposition.

In the first half we playing into the wind and rain and did not get into our opponents half very often. Scoring opportunities were few and far between. Scart pointed from a free after 5 minutes but Ballymac replied in style.

Eoin O’Malley did well to win a breaking ball and passed to Dara Reagan who headed for goal before laying off to Dara Keane who finished to the net. Scart were on top for the remainder of the half kicking 6 unanswered points despite some fine defending from our lads; with Eddie Rodgers in fine form. Scart scored a goal on the stroke of half time to lead 1-7 to 1-0 at the break.

A low scoring start to the second half saw both sides pointing early on with D. Reagan on target for us. Mid-way through the half he again pointed to edge us closer. However shortly after Scart got 1-1 inside a few minutes to stretch their lead. D. Keane, D. Reagan and ML. Hoare scored our final three points on a wet and windy evening. Eddie Rodgers, Tadhg Brick, Eoin & Liam o’ Malley and Dara Reagan tried hard for us on a difficult outing against physically stronger opponents.

We would like to thank all those who have helped and supported us over the season to-date. Hopefully when the county league starts in mid-June everybody will be fully fit and ready for a new campaign.

U 14 Semi – Final County League Firies 7-15 Ballymac 4-3

This was another tough game for our boys. In the first half we competed very well to hold Firies relatively well. Our defence was again strong and we marshalled the Firies attackers well. The half-time score was Firies 1-9 Ballymac 1-1.

Into the second half and the size and fitness of the Firies team began to tell. The drove forward on many occasions and made us pay the highest price on a number of occasions.

The lads tired under the heavy pressure and the final whistle was a reprieve for them. Best on the night for us was David, and Liam and all our defenders tried hard. We have plenty to work on but there is plenty of ability in these young lads. Brighter days lie ahead.

ACADEMY

The academy took place on Sunday morning on a wet and windy morning.   There was a good turnout considering the weather in all the age groups. The U10 boys played against St Pats Blennerville on Sunday morning and performed well.  They are showing continued improvement week-on-week with David Lucid, Jack O’Connor, Cathal White, and Michael Prendergast impressing.  The U8’s had a busy schedule as they travelled to Castleisland on Friday night last for the first round of Go Games. BWILDERED

Saturday, 2nd May was one of the biggest days of the year for Ballymac GAA Club with Bwildered the John Lenihan Wilderness Challenge taking place in Gleanageenty.  The overcast day certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the participants as all thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive.  Thanks to all those who participated.

The success of the event certainly didn’t happen by accident as several people contributed to its success.  A huge thank you to Lee Strand for their sponsorship of the event especially to their Head of Marketing Teresa Higgins Walker whose promotion of Bwildered ensured it got maximum exposure.

The Club were also very fortunate to have men of the calibre of Joe O Connor of Nissus Fitness and John Lenihan who designed a course which gained widespread approval from participants.  Club Officers Joanne Riordan and Tom Herlihy also deserve huge credit, Joanne devoting a huge amount of time organising the administration of the event while Tom also devoted many hours preparing the course whilst also giving his farm yard on the day for registration and post event refreshments.

Thanks also the land owners who gave their lands for the event.  Bwildered could not have taken place without the volunteering of stewards, caterers and many more people who gave their time on the day.  Certainly community spirit was alive and well in Gleanageenty on Saturday morning last.  Roll on Bwildered 2016!

We travelled to Annascaul to play Gaeltacht in a central division playoff on Monday the 27th of April last. This game was necessary as both teams had finished theirleague campaigns on 5 points each. Again we lined out with several players carrying injuries and knocks into the game.

In the first half we found it very difficult to penetrate a packed Gaeltacht defence with a Dara Reagan free our only score in this half.  A variety of points from play and frees helped the opposition to a 5 points to one half time lead.

Into the second half and with the wind at their backs Gaeltacht scored 1-1 inside the first five minutes. Dara Reagan kicked three points in response for us. However with twenty minutes gone we were 7 points down.

James Mc’Donnell then took a heavy knock and with hailstones pouring down things did not look hopeful. However this group of players had no intention of giving in. With about 5 minutes left Dara Reagan took a quick free to ML. Hoare and his shot found the net.

A minute later the comeback was really on as Josh o’ Keeffe scored a goal for us. Almost immediately Eoin o Malley popped over a point to level the game.Unfortunately this great comeback was not enough as a pointed free saw Gaeltacht win by the slightest margin. This result ended our involvement in this competition in which we played 6 games in total. Overall we ended up winning two games, had one draw and lost three games by the narrowest margin. Well done to the boys.

FAOI 14
Ballymac  2-4 Firies  6-16
We were outplayed by a stronger Firies team last Wednesday night. We started well in the first half and played some very good football. We should have had more scores on the board as we hit the post three times. Dara Leen and Dylan Dunne Moriarty played really well and our defence were holding their own. We went in at half-time one point down with the score line reading Ballymac 2-4 Firies 2-5.

However this was as close as we were going to get. Firies sprung the bench at the start of the second half and they proved to be the much stronger side for the last 30 minutes. Our lads tried hard to repel the wave of attacks from Firies but after conceding a number of goals the game was beyond them.

The final score line ofBallymac 2-4 to Firies 6-16 emphasised the away sides dominance. This was a hard lesson for our boys but the compensation for them is that they have secured a semi-final position against the same opposition. This will give the lads a chance to redeem themselves and this is a challenge they are all looking forward to.

This game is due to take place this Wednesday, 6th May in Farranfore.

Fossa 3-01 Ballymac Blue Team 3-07
The match was played last Sunday evening the 3rd of May in wet and windy conditions. The boys put in another fine performance to win Division 3 of the County League. We started off the game brightly and had much of the play but weren’t getting the scores on the board. This was to be the story of the first half. Fossa caught us a number of times on the break and scored three goals. We went in at half time trailing by six points on a score line of Fossa 3-01 Ballymac 1-01. We would have went in more behind but for the great defending of Adam Kelly, Cathal Culloty, Darragh Sweeney, James Bailey and Andy Rogers, and some fine saves by our goalkeeper Adam O Keeffe.

The lads came out for the second half and with the wind at their backs they upped their work rate and within twelve minutes the scores were level. Sean & TimPollman Dammen were getting on top in the middle of the park and they gave in some great ball to our forwards Adam Joy, Denis Brosnan, Padraig O ‘Sullivan, Maurice O’ Connell, Sean Horan & Ryan Mc Hugh; who all showed great character and a never say die attitude.

We took the lead for the first time in the game with nine minutes to go which and this was a lead they would not relinquish. Missing on the night were Bryan Godley, Thomas O Connor and Dylan Barry O Connell who will all be back for our next outing in a few weeks time. There were great scenes of joy at the final whistle as the Ballymac Blue Team were Crowned Division 3 County League winners. Coaches Jack Culloty, Liam Sweeney & Jer Lynch were all over the moon at the end of this titanic performance by the boys. Well done to both teams for a very competitive game in difficult conditions.

U12 County League

Gold Team
The Ballymac Gold team travelled to Fossa last Sunday evening the 03rd of May in a winner takes all encounter. We got off to a great start as James Kenny settled the nerves with an early goal. The Fossa team responded and we had a goal cleared of the line by our alert captain Luke O’Connell. This scare spurred on the boys and Gary Lynch scored a great goal. This was followed by three points from the powerful Donal Daly and a point a piece from Alfonzo Marquez and James Kenny. This left the half time score line Fossa 0-0 Ballymac 2-6.
Ballymac were now playing into the wind in the second half and the whole team put in a great effort in difficult conditions. Eoin Creedon, Adam Wharton, MossieBreenan, Luke Mc’Gill, Jared O’Briain, Oisin Shanahan, Jack Mc’Elligott, Mark O’Connor and Jamie Sugrue all put in great displays. Fossa played really well and forced Kieran Slattery to pull of three fine saves. However they could not turn around the first half deficit and final score read Fossa 0-4 Ballymac 3-9. This result ensured the Division 3B league title for the gold team. Well done to all the team.

SENIOR TEAM

The senior team travelled to Glenbeigh/Glencar on Sunday last ,in the quarter-final of the Junior Championship. After a good win against Ballyduff in the previous round expectations were cautiously optimistic against the division one outfit and one of the favourite teams to win the competition.

With the locals being able to call on the services of county senior stars Darran O Sullivan and Pa Kilkenny and a fringe panelist in Gavan O Grady, this experience was always going to count in the heat of the battle.

The locals got off to a tonic start with a goal in the first minute but Ballymac got off the mark with free after five minutes from Padraig Mc Carthy, followed by one from play from the same player.

Glenbeigh replied with a minor but Ballymac got the next three scores, the first coming from the young and excellent Vincent Horan, one each from play and a free from Aidan Breen after a foul on Vincent Horan. Glenbeigh playing against the breeze added two more points with Gavan O Grady starting to cause the Ballymac defence some problems.

Two more Aidan Breen frees following fouls on Vincent Horan left the scores level at halftime on a scoreline of 1-4 to  opts. The second half scoring was opened by Gavan O Grady after six minutes and he kept the scoreboard ticking over for the hosts ending the half with five points to his name from play and frees.

Darran O’Sullivan chipped in with a good score but all we could manage was one point in the secondhand from a free from the boot of Padraig McCarthy. We did have other chances but our shooting wasn’t clinical enough to put us in a position to win the game.

A goal from Kevin O Shea in injury left a goal between the teams but time ran out and Glenbeigh held on for the win to advance to the semi-final on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-8.

Team; Padraig O Connor, Brendan O Donnell, Con Reynolds, Tj Casey, Matthew Galvin, Kevin O Shea, Niall O Shea, Mossie Shanahan, Aidan Breen,Luke Sweeney, Alan Bonn, Shane O Reilly, Padraig Mc Carthy, Daniel O Shea, Vincent Horan. Subs; Gerard Arthur’s for Alan Bonn, Eanna Reidy for Shane O Reilly.

Our attention now focuses on the Co. League with our next game a home fixture against Na Gaeil on the weekend of the 10th May 2015.

BALLYMAC 5-13 MILLTOWN/CASTLEMAINE 0-7

We got our second win in this competition at home to Milltown/Castlemaine last Monday evening .This was a one sided game with Ballymac in control throughout the field.

Dara Reagan was the main man for us in the first half kicking 6 points in total (5 frees).  Both sides saw goal attempts hit the upright and just before the break James Mc’Donnell passed to Dara Keane who picked out an unmarked Brian Lonergan for our first goal. The half time score wasBallymac 1-6 Milltown/castlemaine0-2

On the restart Eoin O’Malley put Michael Hoare through for our second goal, and he added a point minutes later. Dara Reagan then pointed and followed this by soloing through from midfield to find the net.

Dara pointed again as did Josh and ML Hoare. The visitors added 3 points before Brian Lonergan and EoinoMalley put the game beyond doubt by both scoring goals.

Both sides got two more points each, D Reagan got one and Eddie Rodgers joined the attack to get the final point.  Liam o’Malley gave a very energetic display, with David Rodgers, Josh o’ Keeffe and Dara Keane in fine form.  We now take on Gaeltacht in a playoff on Monday the 27th of April at 19.00 in Annascaul  to decide who goes through to the semi finals to play against Annascaul.

U 14 County League Senans 2-3  Ballymac 5-9
The boys got back to winning ways last Wednesday evening.

Playing away from home is never easy but the boys worked hard for this victory. Brian Cassidy was immense at full back and did a man marking job on his man to repel any threat Senan’s had.

Our midfielders David and Cian were on top also and provided great ball to our forwards.  Darragh lynch benefitted from the good service from midfield most and goaled twice for us.

All the lads won their individual battles. Our defence was very solid with Ciaran, Tim, Sean, Adam, Liam, Brian, and Aidan out in front of their opponents all the time. This laid the platform andSenan’s could not unlock us.

This was a workmanlike performance and one that will stand to the boys. They are beginning to adapt to the full size pitch and we hope to build on this for our last league game against Firies.

Ballymac Blue Team 5 – 18 Castleisland Desmonds 2 – 07

Played last Sunday evening the 26th of April in Ballymac once again in brilliant sunshine the Ballymac lads put in another excellent performance and came out deserved winners on the night.

The lads were a joy to watch with their fast open attacking football, staunch defending and superb point kicking. Next Sunday evening we travel to Fossa to take on the locals in the last round of County League.

A win here will see them crowned County League winners. If you are free next Sunday evening please come along and support the boys which would be very much appreciated.

ACADEMY

The academy took place on Sunday morning on a beautiful sunny morning.

There was a good turnout in all the age groups.  Our U10 boys showed continued improvement with Tommy Palmer, Evan O Brien, Niall Collins, Jamie Lynch and William O Donoghue impressing.  Next weekend our lads have a busy schedule travelling to Castleisland on Friday night for the first round of Go Games for the Castleisland area and playing Austin Stacks on Sunday in Caherslee at 11.00am.  Best on the day for the U8’s were Eoin Joy, Luke Silles, and Stephen Turner.

Eventhough the girls had already captured the North Kerry league trophy we had one game to play against Na Gaeil in Tralee on Sunday morning.   A much improved Na Gaeil team compared to the team which we beat comprehensively in the earlier rounds took the spoils on a scoreline of 2-8 to 6pts.

The girls travelled to Scartaglen on Tuesday evening last and lost on a scoreline of 4-13 to 4-6 to the home team in the third round of the county league preliminary fixtures.

On the night Scart were physically stronger and took their chances despite the best efforts of Emily O Donoghue and Sinead McKeown who took the fight to the hosts all the way.

This was their first loss of the season so far, and with Cora Savage having to retire early in the game, Roisin Long injured and Catriona Sommers unavailable the younger girls did really well.

Grainne Galvin brought off a couple of great saves in goal, Aylssa Leen ended the game with two goals to her name both coming in the secondhalf, and the Palmer sisters really playing their part in defence. Jade Riordan,Millie Dunne and Bridget Sheehan did well when introduced.

BALLYMAC 1-15   AN GAELTACHT 1-8
We had our first win in the central region at home to Gaeltacht on bank holiday Monday evening. Both sides were tied at 3 points each after ten minutes, Ml Hoare (2) and Keelan our scorers. Dara Reagan and Ml. Hoare pointed from frees and a goal bound shot by BrianLonergan was deflected over the bar.

A fine effort by Gaeltacht came down off the crossbar but somehow stayed out, and at the other end Keelan was on hand to flick a Liam O’ Malleycross to the net. Three Ml. Hoare points (including 2 frees) completed our first half scoring, while Barry Lyons was called on to make two fine saves.

Gaeltacht got two more points and found the net just before half time. Half time score Ballymac 1-9 Gaeltacht 1-5.

Gaeltacht started the second half well and got 3 points inside the first ten minutes but they didn’t score again for the remainder of the half. D. Reagan kept us ahead with two points.

He was through again after 20 mins bringing a fine save from the An Gaeltacht goalkeeper. From the resultant 45 by Josh, Dara keane got possession and pointed. Another D. Reagan point was followed by a missed goal chance.

Two more D Reagan points finished our scoring. Barry Lyons had a busy evening, Tadhg Brick had a fine game, ML Hoare and Dara Reagan kicked some great points (6 each) and Keelan was busy as ever. We are away to Kerins O’Rahillys next Monday evening the 13th of April.

Ardfert 2 – 07Ballymac 1- 14
We travelled to Ardfert on a beautiful spring evening with conditions excellent for good football play and we weren’t disappointed.

Having suffered defeat in our last outing the boys were not in the mood for a repeat The return of Liam O’ Brien at centre back was felt and his presence was immense. It took us the first half to get to grips with the Ardfert players.

They bossed things in that half and their physicality against our younger lads was telling. Our defence stood up to attack after attack and held Ardfert to 2-5 to 5 at the short whistle.

EoinAidan, David, Ciaran, Sean, Liam, and Tim can be very proud of their efforts in defence. The second half was the turn of our forwards to show their true skills they drove at Ardfert time and again and picked off their points well. Level with 10 minutes to go it was all to play for.

Our midfield of Bryan Cassidy and David Rogers set up many attacks with the clock running down. Dara Leen was a whizz and the introduction of Darragh Lynch and Dylan McHugh brought new impetus to our attack.

We kicked the last 4 scores of the game to pull clear after some scintillating team play which saw our lads move the ball into space and pick off the points. It was great to watch the lads play the way we know they can.

It was most certainly a great team effort and we look for the lads to bring this self belief into their next game.

Team Eoin Culloty, Aidan o Brien, David Rogers, Ciaran Brosnan, Sean Polman Daamen, Liam O Brien, Tim Polman Daamen, Cian Godley, Bryan Cassidy, Dara Leen, Jon Lowe,Darragh Broderick, Eoghan Kenny, Eoghan Leahy, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Dylan Mc Hugh,Darragh Lynch, Adam Kelly, Jack Tobin, Kyle O’ Connor, Cathal Culloty, Diarmuid Lynch,Darragh Sweeney

Ballymac Blue (A) Team 4-08 v Ardfert 3-08

We played the first round of our County League campaign last Sunday evening against Ardfert at home and what a game of football we had.

This was certainly a game of two halves with Ardfert coming out of the blocks all guns blazing and by half time had raced into a ten point lead. We made a few switches at halftime and the boys came out with fire in their bellies and within fifteen minutes they had the ten point deflect turned into a one by lead.

The lads really got stuck in now and with some great defending and attacking play we went into a four point lead. In fairness to Ardfert they through everything at us in the closing minutes, and they pulled one point back, but the boys held out for a great win.

The boys can feel really proud of themselves after this fine performance. Next Sunday evening we travel to Spa to take on the locals in round 2 of the County League.

BALLYMAC GOLD TEAM Vs ARDFERT
The first half was nip and tuck with 1-2 each from both Gary Lynch and James Kenny overcoming an early goal from the visitors.

A last minute goal from Mark Ö Connor gave Ballymac a slender 2 point lead at half time. Ardfert had the best of the chances in the second half with great saves from Kieran Slattery and the crossbar keeping Ballymac slightly ahead.

A goal from Alfonso Marquez extended Ballymacs lead to 5pts going into the final 10 minutes. Ardfert however struck with two quick goals to put them a point ahead.

Luke McGill was unlucky to hit the upright before Ballymac were awarded a free kick in the final kick of the game. Donal Daly converted the point with great coolness to leave the final score Ballymac 4-7 Ardfert 5-4. All in all a fair result and a good start to the campaign.

Following our win over Finuge St Senans we travelled to Kilcummin to play the local team in round 3 . Game kicked off at 5pm and we were almost at full strength .

Kilcummin got the first score of the game from the throw in but following that our girls gave a display of football in the first half which was a joy to see . Running at pace , slick and accurate passing , great defending and forwards dispossessing backs .

We racked up 5-5 in this half with Caroline Hurley getting our first goal , Aisling O Connell stamped her mark on the game with a wonderful solo goal and adding a great point afterwards . Ellie Sugrue and Ellie Mc Elligott added a goal each and Aine Rice got in the act adding 1-1 in this period also .

Cora Savage and Emily O Donoghue got a point each and Aine added one point just before half time . Therese Keane played herself to a standstill in this first half and backs Eve , Lisa , Maeve, Caoimhe and Sinead were outstanding in this period too and Goalie Robin made 2 good saves for good measure .

Half time score Ballymac 5-5 Kilcummin 0-5 .

The 2nd half saw us start without Robin and Therese due to injury , Ellie Sugrue taking over in goals and Kilcummin upped the ante scoring 1-3 without reply , however another Ellie Mc Elligott goal settled us again .

Following some substitutions on both sides Kilcummin scored 2 more goals and added a few points but 2 points from Cora and Emily settled us down once more . Kilcummin pressed again towards the end but Caoimhe , Niamh and Sophie cleared their lines .

A great move started by Eve Creedon via Cora and Cait saw Therese in front of the goals and she made no mistake to get goal no 7 . A  great team performance overall but Eve , Aisling, Therese and Aine were the stars on the night .

Final Score : Ballymac : 7-7 Kilcummin 3- 11

Kate Collins , Niamh Lynch , Ella Quirke, Abbey Leahy and Alexia Weiss were prominent in the first half . Ciara and Roisin led by example as always but it was the display of Orla O Connor at full back that really caught the eye .

Roisin Raggett kicked a great long range point and Rachel Creedon never gave up even when conceding height and size to her marker .  Well done to all the girls who travelled on the day . Back to academy training next Sunday.

ANNASCAUL/LISPOLE 4-6 BALLYMAC 3-8
We were away to Annascaul/Lispole in our second central region game last Monday evening. Despite the wind, rain and heavy underfoot conditions both teams played some good football. Both team pointed early with Josh scoring for us.

Keelan pointed for us after ten minutes and Dara Keane was at the end of a long free by Josh to find the net. Dara Keane added two more points, with Annascaul getting their second point. Just before half-time Keelan put Dara Chawke through to get our second goal. We into the break 2-4 to 0-2 ahead.

With the wind at their backs our opponents were a different team in the second half. Goals in the first, third, and the fourth minute put them a point ahead. Josh pointed for us and then scored a goal from the penalty spot. Liam o’ Malley pointed to put us 4 points up.

Tadhg Brick went full stretch to block a certain goal, but disaster struck again a minute later when an Annascaul forward drew on the ball about 20 yards out and it finished up in the corner of the Ballymac net.

They added 3 more points inside the next five minutes to go 2 points ahead. Dara Reagan kicked two frees to level matters but our opponents again pointed to finish narrow winners. It was very disappointing not to get something out of the game in which we had only 3 wides in total. Eddie Rodgers, Liam o’ Malley, Dara Keane and impressive sub Davy Rodgers tried hard for us. We are at home to Gaeltacht next Monday evening (6 April) at 6.45.

FAOI 14

Our first competitive game of the year was played in ideal conditions at Ballymac. We were short six players through injury, illness and absence. The boys played very well in the first half and kept pace with Glenflesk up to half time.

Some nice interpassing play by the lads was capped by a poacher’s goal by Darragh Broderick when he took a quick free kick and spotting the keeper off his line chipped him and the ball nestled in the corner. A great boost for the boys.

Half time 2-3 to 1-7, a one point deficit to be made up by our lads. Unfortunately the loss of 6 of our regulars began to tell in the second half. Glenflesk began to dominate and out-muscled our younger and lighter lads in possession. Bryan Cassidy, David Rogers Johnny Lowe and Dara Leen worked tirelessly to stem the flow of the Glenflesk attack with little result.

A lot of lessons will be learnt by the lads in what was for many of them their first competitive game on the senior full sized pitch. Plenty to work on in training but we are very confident this group can and will improve with each passing week. It was great to have Eoin Culloty back from a long layoff and we wish Dylan, Kyle and Liam a speedy recovery from injury.

Team: Eoin Culloty, Jack Sugrue, Bryan Cassidy, Eoghan Kenny, Ciaran Brosnan, Cian Godley, Jack Tobin, Darragh Broderick, David Rogers, Johnny Lowe, Dara Leen, Diarmuid Lynch, Darragh Lynch, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Aidan O Brien, Cathal Culloty, Sean Polmann Daamen, Tim Polman Daamen

Best wishes to this team who participate in the Kerry Feile Peil Na Nog on Saturday 11th April 2015

FAOI 12

The girls welcomed Beale/Ballyduff to Ballymac on Saturday afternoon to decide the outcome of the league, as a victory over the north Kerry girls, would leave us as champions of the division, even with a game in hand.

Putting out nearly our strongest team we showed our natural football ability throughout the field to comprehensively defeat our nearest rivals in the division.

With three goals in the first half from Catherina Sommers , Yvonne Hurley and a wonderful team goal which saw Kate O Connor,Catherina Sommers,Cora Savage combine to send Emily O Donoghue through to drive an unstoppable shot to the back of the net.Cora chipped in with two points in the first half along with one from Catherina.

The halftime score was 3-3 to 3pts. We started the secondhalf in the same fashion with all players working hard for one another, with Ciara Palmer excelling in the full back line, and our half back line of Aylssa Leen, the outstanding Sinead McKeown and Cathy Palmer repelling the visitors at every oppurtunity.

Four goals were added in the secondhalf from Cora, Catherina and two from Aoife Galvin. The score of the half was a point from the boot of our centre back Sinead after a great run forward. Points from Cora ,Emily and  Jade Riordan finished the scoring to leave the final score 7-9 to 0-9. Captain Cora Savage accepted the trophy on behalf of the team and to the delight of their coaches and families.

The team now switch their attention to the county league with great optimism. Our Senior team took on Kerins O Rahillys in Healy Park on Sunday last in our third game in the Coiste Tra Li league.

We played some of our best football of the year in the first half and were unlucky not to be ahead by more than the one point we led by at half time.

In the second half the Strand Road side upped a gear and despite the best efforts of our lads the home side ran out deserving winners in the end.

Ballymac 3 – 16  Desmonds 2 – 1

We played Desmonds at home in glorious sunshine on Sunday last.  Dara Regan got our scoring underway with a free after five minutes.  Keelan Brosnan and Michael Hoare (f) got two more points while Desmonds got their first point.

Barry Lyons and Tadgh Brick were busy clearing off the goal line and Dara Keane (2) and Dara Regan got more points.  Desmonds eventually got through after 20 minutes and found the net from far out.  There was some great defending from Ballymac including 3 block downs in a row.

Points from Dara Regan and Michael Hoare put us ahead on a score of 0 – 8 to 1 – 1.  Points from Keelan Brosnan, Josh O Keeffe, Dara Regan and Eoin O Malley with a fine effort stretched our lead before Desmonds again goaled.

Ballymac responded in style when Michael Hoare picked out Keelan Brosnan who finished to the net.  The same player goaled again following a pass from Eoin O Malley and Michael Hoare added out third goal of the day.

Frees from Dara Regan and points from Liam O Malley and Josh O Keeffe finished our scoring.  We are away to John Mitchels on Sunday next.

SENIORS
Our Senior team took on John Mitchels at home on Sunday last in a fixture which doubled up as a Coiste Tra Li and St. Brendan’s Board game. Ballymac started in whirlwind fashion and led 1 – 5 to no score after 15 minutes however, John Mitchels fought back and at half time the score was Ballymac 1 – 5 John Mitchels 0 – 7. The away side started the second half stronger and took the lead with a couple of early points.

A John Mitchels goal mid way through the second half increased their need further but our lads never gave up and reduced the deficit to 3 points to leave the final score Ballymac 1 – 9 John Mitchels 1 – 12. It was great to see Gerard Arthurs and William Casey back in Club colours after a number of years out of action while it was also encouraging to see minors Padraig O Connor, Christopher Leen and David Long impressing.

FAOI 16
CORDAL/SCART 4-6 BALLYMAC 2-8
We played our first game of the season away to Cordal/Scart in the Castleisland district last Sunday morning. Both defences were on top early on and we had to wait over ten minutes for the first score a point by Cordal/Scart . This was followed almost immediatedly by a goal for our opponents.

Michael Hoare burst through to goal for us and quickly added a point to level the scores. Cordal/Scart got 3 more points before the break to leave us three points behind (1-4 to1-1) at half time.

We got a great start to the second half Keelan driving through from his own half to finish to the net, easily the score of the game. The home side pointed while Daragh Reagan and Keelan pointed for us.

A defensive mix up let Scart in for a goal while Daragh Reagan pointed for us. E ddie Rodgers who was having a fine game at full back had to go off injured and this caused huge problems for us with the home side getting two quick goals and a point. Keelan got four points in succession but we could not get the goal we needed. Best for us were Keelan Brosnan, Cathal Dunne, Eddie Rodgers and Michael Hoare on a day when we just came up short. Training continues next Sunday morning at 11am.
