St Pat’s GAA/Blennerville News

St PatsLotto

There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €11,300. The numbers drawn were 09, 13, 24 & 27. The five €30 consolation prizes went to Catherine O’Callaghan; Deirdre Galvin, Cromane; E Keating, Gallowsfield; Joe McElligott, Crotta & Brendan Poff, Lohercannon.

This week’s jackpot will be €11,400 and the draw will take place this Sunday night July 13th at 10pm in Skelper Quane’s Bar. Lotto tickets available from the usual outlets or any club officer.

Astro-Turf

We received two pieces of great new during the last week. The club received full planning permission last Tuesday for a 60mtr x 30mtr fully floodlit astro-turf pitch.

Following from that, Minister Michael Ring announced on Thursday details of a grant of €62,255 for the club towards the cost of completing the project. Once completed, this facility will be made available free of charge to the local national schools in the parish and used to promote Gaelic Games and healthy living in our community.

It will also provide an all year round, state of the art training facility for all our teams to develop their skills. The club will still require a fundraising drive to complete the facility but we are a long way there thanks to our dancers, walkers and lotto tickets buyers.

Every cent collected from our Strictly Come Dancing & Dingle Way Challenge will be used for this project.

We would also like to thank Minister Deenihan & TD Arthur Spring for their support. Arthur Spring took a huge personal interest in our project, meeting our team on several occasions to offer advice and lobbying hard on our behalf. We are very grateful for his support.

Juniors

Our juniors were beaten by a strong Na Gaeil team last Monday night week at home on a score line of 1-12 to 1-8. They were scheduled to play John Mitchels at home in round two last Monday night.

Result in next week’s notes. Churchill defeated St Senan’s in the final game of the Junior Town League. They will now face Duagh this Friday night in the semi final with the winners playing St Pats; most likely on the following Friday night at a neutral venue.

St Brendan’s Teams

Well done to the St Brendan’s U21 team who defeated Kerins O’Rahillys in the U21 County Championship last week by a point. They will now play Shannon Rangers in Ardfert in Round Two on Monday July 21st at 7pm.

The Senior team will play Dingle in Round 3 of the Senior County Championship this Saturday night at 6pm in Austin Stacks Park. We wish both teams the best of luck.

Cúl Camps

The Kellogg’s GAA Football Camp will take place in Blennerville from July 28th to August 1st . The camp is for boys & girls aged 6 to 13. We would hope to increase on the huge numbers that we had last year.

Each child will be given free sports gear. GAA players will teach the skills of Gaelic Football in a safe and fun filled environment from Monday to Friday 10am to 2.30pm.

Congratulations

Congratulations to the many people from the locality who completed the Ring of Kerry last weekend.

Area Mass

The Lohercannon / Hare Street / Blennerville Residents’ Association have organised a community mass which we are having adjacent to ‘The Ring’ area of Lohercannon on Thursday July 17 at 7.30pm. After the mass we will have a little get-together and light refreshments and we would love to see you there.

Tralee Tidy Towns Competition

We have also entered the Local Tidy Towns’ Competition and judging will commence mid-July. To this effect, we urge all residents to keep the areas around your homes weed free and to pay particular attention to the upkeep of the communal Green Areas.

Sympathy

The club would also like to extend its sympathy to the families & relatives of Maureen O’Sullivan, Ballinorig Estate & Terence Foley, Caherslee. May They Rest In Peace

Austin Stacks Club News

Austin StacksSENIOR FOOTBALL

The Co. Championship resumes this week-end with games in Round 3 (last 15).
We are involved in a double header in Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening (12th July). We play Rathmore at 7.30pm with the St. Brendans .v. Dingle game starting at 6pm.

WELL DONE

Well done to the Kerry Minors, Juniors and Seniors. In the space of 4 days they have achieved the treble of Munster Football titles, the first time doing this since 2003 and the 13th time in all since first achieving it in 1931. Kerry now have a combined 160 Munster titles in the three grades – Senior (76), Minor (43) and Junior (41).

SENIOR HURLING

Austin Stacks 1-16; Crotta O’Neills 2-13.

Our 4th and final round game of the Co. League against Crotta, played in ideal conditions in Connolly Park last Friday evening (4th July), ended all square after a very entertaining contest with some brilliant passages of hurling by both sides.

No more than three points separated the teams at any time during the game, with the sides level on six different occasions as well, including at half time (0-10 to 2-4) and at full time.

Thirteen of our 17 scores came from play with arguably two of the best points coming from one of John McCarthy’s efforts (John scored 1-4 in total, and on his birthday as well) and the one scored by Kieran McCaughley from an acute angle in the 56th minute.

That score brought us to within two points of Crotta and then three minutes later came the score that put us back in the driving seat. It came after a brilliant run by Aaron Barry who was brought down in the square.

Ronan Gilsenan’s well taken penalty was saved but John McCarthy was on hand to scramble the rebound to the net.

From the puck out Michael O’Leary won possession and put over to increase our lead to two.

But in the two minutes of added time Crotta added two to level the game.

Like all the games this season our defence was superb and when you consider the high scores that this Crotta team (with a lot of youth and some household names from their senior ranks of yester years still wielding the camán) have been achieving in the League to date – 6-13 to 0-4 against Duagh; 3-17 to 0-4 against St. Pats – this was indeed a super display by our lads.

It’s an amazing stat, and we don’t think it has happened before, but this was our third draw in three games which means we have ended the League on 5 points having got two points from the Duagh game which they conceded.

So with one more round to be played (we have a bye in this round) and one back game outstanding also, it’s still not 100% clear as to who will go through to the final stages.

However it looks that we have every chance of getting a semi final berth at least.

Team: Peter Doyle, Damien McCarthy, Peter O’Regan, Paudie Bradley, Seán King, Jim McCarthy (0-1), Andrew Morrissey, Michael O’Leary (0-1), Breandán Caball, Aaron Barry, Danny Maguire (Capt) (0-3), Eddie Barry, Ronan Gilsenan (0-6 – 4 frees), John McCarthy (1-4), Brian Meehan.
Subs used: Shane Fitzgerald (ht), Kieran McCaughley (41m) (0-1), Pádraig Lynch (59m).

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL

Austin Stacks 3-17; John Mitchels 2-7.
Last Friday evening (4th July) our B team had a good away win over Mitchels in the opening round of the Town League.
Round 2 is due to go ahead on this Monday evening (7th July) away to Kerins O’Rahillys. Check Club Website for details.

Kerins O’Rahilly’s GAA News

Strand RoadJuveniles
U6/8/10/Girls Our Saturday Club had its last training session before the Summer break on Saturday last. Everyone, both boys and girls, had training and games and were then presented with a Training top by Kerry footballer Barry John Keane.

Barry John also presented trophies to the winners of the U10 skills competition. They were 1st Eric McMahon, 2nd Jack Savage and joint 3rd Seán Healy and Ben O’Brien. The highlight of the morning was the visit of the ice cream van and the sun shone while everyone ate their assortment of cones.

Huge credit goes to all of our coaches at U6, U8, U10 and the U8/10 girls. They show up week after week and give freely of their time for training and blitzes. Thanks to all of you.

Without you there would be no Saturday Club.

Senior Football

U21s Kerins O’Rahillys U21s travelled to Ardfert on Wednesday last to play St Brendan’s in the first round of the U21 football championship.

They played against a stiff breeze in the first half and in what was a very low scoring game the sides went in Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 to St Brendan’s 0-04 at half time.

Kerins O’Rahillys looked the stronger side in the second half and did go ahead following a goal scored by Paul Griffin but it wasn’t to be and despite some strong performances from Cian Sayers, Gary Nolan and Jason O’Leary St Brendan’s shaved it on a final score of Kerins O’Rahillys 1-05 St Brendan’s 1-06.

Minors

Kerins O’Rahillys minors play in round 1 of the Minor Football Championship against Austin Stacks this Wednesday the 9th at 7pm in Strand Road.

Mouth-Guards

As you may be aware it will be compulsory for all players senior right down to juvenile to wear mouth-guards at training sessions and when playing games. This comes into effect for seniors from 1st January 2014 and has been in effect for all others since last January.

If players fail to wear mouth guards they will not be permitted to participate in football training or matches. No mouthguard No game! Further information on this rule can be found online at http://www.gaa.ie.

Congratulations
We would like to congratulate all three Kerry teams who won Munster titles this week. All had connections with the Club. First out on Wednesday evening last were the Kerry Juniors.

They played Cork in Austin Stack Park and won on a score of Kerry 3-14 Cork 0-13. Well done to all and especially our own Timmy O’Sullivan who is a selector with the team. This was the start of what was to prove a winning streak for Kerry.

Next up were the Minors on Sunday against Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoímh. They out of the three Kerry teams fought the hardest battle for their title but did come out victorious on a score of Kerry 2-17 Cork 2-13. Well done to the Management and team and in particular to our own Cormac Coffey who had a fine game.

The first, we hope, of many. Well done also to Alan O’Sullivan physical trainer with the Kerry minors. Lastly and by no means least it was the Kerry Seniors out against Cork.

Cork looked dangerous for all of 5 minutes before Kerry took the upper hand and dominated the game thereafter giving us a showcase of pure footballing genius. The game finished on a score of Kerry 0-24 Cork 0-12 with every player playing his part. Well done to the Management and especially our own Barry John Keane and David Moran.

Ladies Football
U14/U16 Our U16 Girls are back in Co League action. They played Beale on Thursday last. With only 12 players the girls were spread thin across the pitch but were led off to a flying start by Emma McCarthy.

At half time we were up 0-7 to 0-2 thanks to some great scores from Hannah Stack, Shannon Quill and Shannon McInerney. In the second half Beale scored 3 fast goals and it looked like the game was slipping away from us but Rebecca Duggan (Capt) pulled off some great saves to keep us in it.

A goal from Shannon McInerney brought us back into it as the girls started to take control of the game. After another few points Emma McCarthy was brought down just outside the goals and was awarded a penalty. Shannon McInerney stepped up to take it and drove the ball into the back of the net.

At the final whistle the score was 2-10 to 3-2. Another great win for the U16 Ladies!!!

Other players to impress were Megan McBride, Jodie O’Halloran, Isabelle Bailey and Caitlin Crowe. The girls played Abbeydorney last week. The U16 Ladies were away to Abbeydorney on Thursday 26th of June. With only 10 players we took to the field and the girls gave it their all.

We emerged victorious beating Abbeydorney 1-6 to 0-4. Well done to the girls and their mentors. U14 and U16 Ladies train every Tuesday at 6.15 in Ballyrickard.

FAOI 12:

(i) Our Under 12s made the short trip to Ardfert for this Under 13 league match. Initially, we struggled with the physicality of our opponents who were a year older. The half-time score of 4-8 to 0-5 did not reflect the huge amount of effort our charges put in. Having made a number of switches at the break, we kept the scoreboard operator very busy in the second period and should have won the match but for some wayward shooting.

Much credit must go to our charges who on occasions were hit hard but did not flinch from the challenge. Final score: 4-11 to 2-12. Team: Armin Heinrich (0-2), Niall Fitzmaurice, Greg Scanlon, Luke Chester (0-1), Robert Morrissey, Cian Purcell (1-06), Adam Curran (0-3), Connor Kavanagh, Eoin Higgins (1-0), James Fernane, Mathew Browne, Shane Bastible, Liam Purcell. Faoi 14
BALLYMAC 5-18 LAUNE RANGERS B 8-6

We played Laune Rangers B at home in the central division on Monday 30th in what was definitely a game of two halves .Rangers started in fine style gaoling inside two minutes.

Ballymac then took over and goals from Dara Chawke and Cillian Gallagher coupled with points form Daire Keane,(0-4) Cillian, Davy Rodgers and Tadhg Brick(0-2) had us 2-8 to 1-0 ahead midway through the half.

Cillian scored another 1-1 and points from Liam O’Brien, James Carmody, Dara Chawke and D Rodgers had us 3-13 to 2-0 ahead at the break.

Rangers, who travelled with a big squad, introduced some subs at half time, and these had a telling impact on the game. They goaled immediately on the restart and any thoughts we had of winning easily quickly vanished. They added another 2-4 to cut the gap to 3 points at the midway point.

Two points each from Cillian and Dara Keane extended our lead , but Rangers replied with 2-1 to level the scores. A well taken goal by Josh lifted the siege, followed by a Davy Rodgers point and Daire Keane goal. Rangers again replied with 1-1 ,but thankfully there was no more time left and we held on to win by 3 points.

FEILE WEEKEND
Feile 2014
The u-14 team set out for Galway early on Friday morning to take part in the All-Ireland Feile Football Finals, although the team and mentors had heard about the wonderful adventure that lay ahead of them.

The new friends made in St. Gabriels, the comradeship formed and most of all the homecoming on Sunday night as they returned to the club under Garda escort as All-Ireland Champions will never be forgotten.

Hundreds of club members young and old awaited their arrival and lined the road from the bridge to the clubhouse and greeted the bus with cheering that could be heard down in John Joe Sheehy Road.

Pat Costello spoke on behalf of the Juvenile section of the club and his words to these John Mitchels history makers will be remembered forever.

Diarmuid Cunnane spoke on behalf of the Mentors, team captain Mikey Kelleher spoke on behalf of the players, finally Brid McElligott spoke and thanked the players, the mentors, the parents, the sponsors and everybody involved behind the scenes that made the trip possible.

The Feile football matches:
Our first game on Friday evening was against Athenry (Galway), our boys took a bit of time to settle after the long road trip but led at half time by 1-03 to 0-0, Athenry got a few points on the board in the second half but the Mitchels boys persisted and ended as winners on a score line of 1-06 to 0-04.

Match number two was against group favourites Ayler Gaels (Kildare), this was an exciting match from start to finish, with John Mitchels leading by a point at the break, (2-02 to 2-01).

Ayler Gaels threw everything at the boys in the second half and were 1-02 ahead with 6 minutes left on the clock. The never say die Mitchels boys staged a comeback and scored two fantastic goals to win by the narrowest of margins, final score John Mitchels 4-13: Ayler Gaels 3-05.

Match number three was played on Saturday morning against host club St. Gabriels (Galway), who gave our boys a guard of honour as they ran onto the pitch.

Mitchels led at half time by 1-06 to 0-02, and ended as victors with the score board reading 2-14 to 1-03.

This victory ensured a quarter-final spot in the cup competition. After this match Chairperson Brid McElligott made presentations to the St. Gabriel’s club, a specially commissioned t-shirt for each of the players and mentors which had both club crests with Feile 2014 inscribed under the crests, and also presented a specially commissioned crystal clock for the St. Gabriels clubhouse.

Brid also made a presentation to the chairperson of Padraig Pearses of Roscommon who hosted our first round games.

The Quarter-Final
The opposition in the quarter-final were Gloucestershire (UK), this was a one sided affair with the score at half time 5-07 to 0-0, the opposition got a few on the score board in the second half but Mitchels continued as of the first half and were once again victorious.

Final Score: John Mitchels 7-10; Gloucestershire 1-02.

This victory ensured a trip to Ballyhaunis on Sunday morning to take part in the semi-finals.

The Semi-Final
We met Naomh Eammon (Laois) in the semi-final on Sunday morning. The Mitchels were first to score with a point from Mikey Kelleher. Naomh Eammon quickly responded with two well taken goals.

Mitchels held tough and kept plugging away and scored four points to the opposition’s one point to leave us two points down at half time, Mitchels 0-5; Naomh Eammon 2-1.

The support from Kerry and Munster legend Mick Galway at half time spurned on the boys and Mitchels levelled things within five minutes of the second half.

Naomh Eammon responded with a point to once again take the lead, John Mitchels kept up the momentum and scored three points from hard earned frees to take a two point lead. Naomh Eammon got one back to leave a point between the sides, for the last three minutes they threw everything at the boys from the yellow road but couldn’t get through the super Mitchels team.

At the final whistle the scoreboard read: John Mitchels 0-10: Naomh Eammon 2-03.

The Final
We played against Dicksboro (Kilkenny) in the final. Within the first two minutes the opposition scored two fast goals, Mitchels settled and stuck to the game plan and soon had one in the back of the net with a superb goal from Darrion Hurley, followed by points from Kevin Williams and Padraig White to leave us one behind.

Dicksboro had a point before half time to leave them two ahead at the break. Half time score: John Mitchels 1-02: Dicksboro 2-01.

Mitchels came out in a second half and got on the ball straight away. Captain fantastic Mikey Kelleher scored a magnificent point from 40 meters out, this was followed by another great point this time from the boot of Craig O’Brien to level the match.

Mitchels threw everything at Dicksboro for the next five minutes and were rewarded with a point from Daniel Molloy. Dicksboro tried hard but the Mitchels full back and half back lines stood tall and with outstanding defending won ball after ball, keeping Dicksboro scoreless for the entire second half.

The final whistle saw great jubilation from the team, the mentors, the parents, the club chairperson, the club officers and the many supporters who travelled to Connaught to witness John Mitchels first All-Ireland win.

After the match, team Captain Michael Kelleher was presented with the All-Ireland winners’ Cup from Liam O’Neill, president of the GAA.

This presentation was met with great cheering and tears from both John Mitchels and host club St. Gabriels supporters and parents.

The scoring tally for the six games amounted to 15 goals and 48 points. Well done to the team and the mentors Diarmuid Cunnane, Dave Leahy, Paul Barden, John Higgins and Seanie Burrows.

The John Mitchels team and scorers were, Dylan O’Se, Sean Gannon, Tadgh Broderick, Steve Bowler, Graham Hudson, Conor Fitzmaurice, Daniel Molloy (0-1), Padraig White (1-03), Cian Barden, Ross Sugrue, Dylan O’Brien, Micky Kelleher (1-13), Kevin Williams (2-7), Ryan Ward (1-10), Alex O’Shea (1-02), Shane McCarthy (2-04), Donie Dillane (0-1), James Sheehan (0-2), Craig O’Brien (2-01), Padraic O’Callaghan (0-1), Tyreese Flaherty (1-0), Darrion Hurley(2-03), Conor O’Brien (2-0), and James O’Connor. Well done to everyone.

Special thanks to our host club St. Gabriels, we will never forget the hospitality shown to our players and to all the John Mitchels club members. Thanks also the all the club members and supporters who couldn’t make the trip but send messages of support on both Facebook and Twitter.

The team and mentors really appreciated it. Thanks also to all who contributed to our fundraising efforts, to Henneberys who organised the gear for the players and mentors and to Jackie Power transport who ensured our players got to and from Tralee safe

Churchill News

rsz_1churchill_gaa_2It was with deep regret and sorrow that the club learned of the death of Helen Brosnan Spa, wife of former club Chairman Justin.

Helen was a great worker and fundraiser for the club down the years.

Also the club would like to send sympaty to the family of Chris Doyle Spa, uncle of Danny Doyle, Fenit.

Last week’s lotto was called of as a mark of respect to Helen Brosnan and will now take place on Friday night 4th July at 10pm in the Tankard.
After all that went on last week in the lead up to the game, it was great to see St.Brendan’s pull of a surprise win in the Senior County Champinship against Currow.

It was great to see Ivan Parker make a return after been out for nearly 2 months and make such an inpack on the game scoring 2 gls and 3 pts.

Also on the team were Mikey Brennan, Ciaran Crowley, P.J. O’Mahoney and subs Matt Finnerty and Eoin O’Brien.
Best of luck to Ivan and Eoin who will be on the Kerry minor panel on Sunday. Mikey Brennan will hopefully will have won another Munster Junior Medal.

Best of luck to Sean Hamilton and Jason Mortimer who play with the North Kerry u-14s on Saturday.

Congratulations to Killian Tierney Spa who won the National Triathlon up in Dunmore East.

Austin Stacks Club News

Austin StacksBINGO

When our Bingo Sessions commenced almost nine years ago (on 5th November 2005) we have rarely missed a Saturday session since then. Well now we are adding a second night to our weekly sessions for all our regular players and indeed for any new players who would like to come along to our Connolly Park venue. As well as our usual Saturday sessions we are now adding a session on Thursday nights from now on, commencing on this Thursday (3rd July). Both sessions will commence at 8.30pm each night.

U14 FÉILe

Our U14s did themselves, the Club and the County proud with their performances in the Féile in Galway last weekend. They won all three games in the Group stages but just fell short in the quarter final against Nemo Rangers. Well done lads. Well done also to all who travelled to support the boys and to those Mentors extraordinaire – Gene O’Donnell, Michael Chips Clifford, Mike Casey, Dave Scanlon and Paudie McQuinn and all the backroom team. See Juvenile Notes for more.

U21 FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 3-17 Dingle 1-5.

Conditions were ideal for football in Connolly Park on Wednesday evening last (25th June) for the first round of the County Championship.

We made a good start and led by two points to no score by the 5th minute with Danny Carroll on target from play and Darragh O’Brien converting a free after he, himself, was fouled.

But Dingle pounced on a defensive error in the 9th minute which led to their only goal of the game. This seemed to ignite the visitors and, by the 20th minute, they had added a further four points, which left them five clear at that stage.

However in the closing minutes of the half we upped our game again putting over four also, all from play, with two each for Eamon McAllen and Darragh O’Brien. Dingle led by one at half time (1-4 to 0-6).

Whatever was said in the Rock Dressingroom at half time certainly worked as we came out a different team in the second half. We were in complete control and the four players who were introduced during the course of this half could easily have started.

Three of them got on the score sheet, for example. We held the opposition scoreless from play in this half – their one point coming from a converted free in the 54th minute, while we went on to score a further 3-11, all from play.

Our first goal came in the 50th minute when second half sub, Calvin Foley was put through by fellow sub Breandán Caball. The game was well and truly over when our remaining two goals came in the closing two minutes with Greg Horan and Eamon McAllen on target.

Dingle, it must said, were without a number of players who would be normally be on their starting 15 (including five of their Minors who are on the Kerry panel).

One of the welcome aspects of the evening was to see the return to football duty of Colin Griffin and he looked eager and impressive during the 20 minutes or so he was on the pitch. It was his first game in over 11 months, since picking up that severe cruciate injury last July.

Team: Patrick Fitzgibbon, Dylan Harnett, Eoghan McKivergan, Tom McLoughlin, Seán Ryan, Ciarán O’Connell, Barry Walsh, Greg Horan (1-0), Conor Jordan (0-1), Kyle Fitzgibbon (0-1), Darragh O’Brien (0-4 – 1 free), Shane Crowley, Eamon McAllen (1-3), Danny Carroll (0-5), Ciarán Flanagan.

Subs used: Colin Griffin (41m) (0-2), James Galvin (41m), Calvin Foley (41m) (1-0), Breandán Caball (50m) (0-1).

We have drawn South Kerry away in the Quarter final. This will be the 4th meeting of the sides in the competition. Our previous three meetings were in consecutive seasons 2002, 2003 and 2004.

In 2002 we defeated the divisional side in the semi final and we went on to win that year’s final – our only win, so far, in the competition. The following year both sides met in the final with the South Kerry side coming out on top.

Then in 2004 we met at the quarter final stage with the Southerners winning this one also.

SENIOR FOOTBALL

As speculated in last week’s Notes, our Round 7 Co. League game against Listowel Emmets did not go ahead last weekend. The game has been rescheduled for the weekend of 9th/10th August. In the meantime Stephen and his colleagues have lined up a tasty Challenge game on the morning of the Munster Football Final (this coming Sunday 6th July). The game is against Nemo Rangers at their grounds at Trabeg, Douglas.

GOOD LUCK

We wish the Kerry Minors (including our own Jack Morgan) and the Kerry Seniors (including Kieran Donaghy) the best of luck as they take on Cork in both Munster Finals in Páirc Uí Chaoimh next Sunday.
At Senior level Kerry will be playing in their 101st final, seeking their 76th title, while Cork will be playing in their 83rd final, seeking their 38th title.
At Minor level Kerry will be playing in their 71st final, seeking their 43rd title, while Cork will be playing in their 60th final, seeking their 30th title (all final appearance figures exclude replays).

SENIOR HURLING

We received a walk-over from Duagh in last week’s Round 3 Co. League game. Our 4th and final round game against Crotta is due to go ahead in Connolly Park on this Friday evening (4th July) at 8pm.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL

The way now seems clear for the semi final of the County League between our B team and Rathmore. No date has been fixed as we write. Legion await the winners in the Final.

SENIOR TEAM
Ballymac made the long trip down to Dromid on Saturday last for their county league fixture. Ballymac were travelling more in hope than in optimism as they were missing five of their regular starters.

The game was five minutes old when Ballymac registered their first score with a point from a free by Paudie McCarthy. Aiden Breen followed with another in the sixth minute with a point from play.

Dromid responded with a point from their midfielder Thomas Curran. In the 13th minute a long high ball into the goalmouth by Gene Griffin got a touch from Michael Herlihy and ended up in the Dromid net. Luke Sweeney added another point in the 17th minute from play. Denis Shine O Sullivan and Michael Herlihy exchanged points.

A great run by Aiden Breen from his own half back line ended up with him scoring Ballymac’s last point of the first half. D.J O Sullivan added another for the home side in the final minute of the first half to leave the half time score at Ballymac 1.5 to Dromid 0.4.

Dromid started the second half with a point in the first minute from play. Gene Griffin and Dylan O’Donoghue exchanged points within the next five minutes.

In the 8th minute Aiden Breen was fouled bearing down on the Dromid goal and scored the resulting penalty. This left the score at Ballymac 2.6 to Dromid 0.5.

Dromid scored two more points through Thomas Curran. The outstanding Aiden Breen responded with a point from play. Gene Griffin added another from play two minutes later. Three points from Dylan O’Donoghue, Chris Farley and Denis Shine O’Sullivan reduced Ballymac’s lead to four points.

Paudie McCarthy responded with a point from a free after Christopher Leen was fouled . In the 25th minute Aiden Breen settled things for Ballymac with a good goal.

Two minutes later Luke Sweeney tagged on another point. The never say die Dromid hit back with a goal through their best player on the night Thomas Curran.

The last score of the game came from Ballymac in the last minute with a point from Denis Leen. Final score Ballymac 3.11 to Dromid 1.11.

Ballymac: Padraig Laide, Denis Leen, T.J. Casey , Brendan O Donnell, Cian Counihan, Con Reynolds , Alan Bonn, Aiden Breen, Kevin O’Shea, Padraig McCarthy, Dermot Leen, Christopher Leen, Luke Sweeney , Gene Griffin, Michael Herlihy. Subs; Used Maurice Leen, Sean Brosnan.

TED O’KEEFFE, FAMILY FUN DAY

The Ted O’Keeffe family fun day which was held on Sunday last in the Club grounds once again proved to be a resounding success.

Great credit is due to all involved in the organising of the event for the huge range of activities for young and old to participate in from tug of war for mums vs dads (congrats to mums on their victory), to U6’s egg and spoon race to mention just a few.

Massive thanks also to all who volunteered of their services on the day to help make it such a success. The organisers would like to thank all who attended on the day and hope all enjoyed the fun and games.

It was great to see Club President Jerome McEllistrim in attendance keeping a watchful eye over proceedings, Jerome was a life long friend of Ted O’Keeffe in whose memory the day is dedicated to.

COISTE NA NOG NOTES

FAOI 14: Ardfert 4 05 Ballymac 5 12
Ballymac picked up their second win in the Central Region Competition with a well earned win away to Ardfert. Played in a beautiful summer evening last Mon 23rd Ballymac did all the hard work in the first half of this match, dominating possession and scoring 4 08 to Ardferts 4 points which were all from frees has shown how this team is improving with every game. With goals from Daire Keane, Brian Lonergan and Joshua O Keeffe and the same players also chipping in with points along with points from Tadgh Brick and Cillian Gallagher Ballymac were in total control.
Second half started in similar circumstances with Eoghan Leahy kicking a point and Joshua O Keeffe gaoling but after this Ballymac seem to lose their scoring form and allowed Ardfert to score 2 goals. Ardfert were never going to give up but with some great work rate shown from David Rodgers, Liam O Brien and Joshua O Keeffe who was now playing midfield Ballymac rallied again kicking 3 further points from the boot of Daire Keane and Joshua O Keeffe but Ardfert were to have the last say in this half netting twice in the last 5 mins.
Team 1 Eoin Culloty, 2 Jack Sugrue, 3 Cathal Dunne, 4 Kevin Lenihan, 5 Liam O Brien, 6 Joshua O Keeffe(2 02), 7 Jamie Chawke, 8 Tadgh Brick(0 01), 9 Brian Lonergan(1 01), 10 James Carmody, 11 David Rodgers, 12 Cillian Gallagher( 0 01), 13 Diarmuid Lynch, 14 Daire Keane(2 06), 15 Eoghan Leahy(0 01), 17 Darragh Lynch, 18 Dylan Mc Hugh, 19 Cian Godley.

CONGRATULATIONS to Joshua O Keeffe on making the U14 Kerry North Development Squad. Great to see another member of the O’Keeffe Family wearing the County colours. Well done and keep up the hard work.

U14 Girls Divison 4 Co. League Final
Laune Rangers B 5-7 Ballymac 4-6
The division 4 league final was played Sun evening last at Farranfore and it turned out to be a cracker of a game . The Ballymac girls started the game really well and we dominated possession for the first 20mins , however scores were hard to come by due to a combination of poor shooting and good defense from Laune Rangers scores were level at a point a piece . Laune Rangers came more into it then and they scored a good goal to lead , 2 points from Ashling O Connell pushed us back in front but a few minutes before the half time whistle we conceded 2 goals. Half time score 3-1 to 3 pts.

The second half saw Caoimhe Carroll and Cora Savage replace Eve Creedon and Lisa Curran and a few positional switches saw us again make a great start and a goal from Aine Rice and a point from Ashling ensured we were back in it.

We traded points and we brought the lead back to 3 points, Laune Rangers struck for another goal and tacked on a point for good measure saw them lead by 2 goals and a point with 12 mins left.

However the Ballymac girls showed great heart and determination to come back strongly , Cora Savage got a goal and Mary Healy got in for another great goal.

A goal for Laune Rangers rocked us again but we went back up the field from the kickout and Mary Healy struck again for goal no 4 for Ballymac , Another point for Ashling intersected 2 for Laune Rangers.

Ballymac had 2 goal chances again but failed to convert , final whistle blew as our girls attacked once more leaving us with a 4 pt defeat .

To say the girls were magnificent on the night wouldn’t do them justice. Considering Laune Rangers played 6 players who contested the Div 1 semi -final our girls went toe to toe with them and at times one would think that some of our players had played div 1 .
It was a privilege to see them show heart, determination and skill on the night and they all performed to the max of their ability . They did themselves , their parents and the Ballymac club proud on the night and right through the competition . Big thanks to all who supported the team on the night .

All played well on the night but special mention to Claire Kenny , Micheala and Tara Murphy , Niamh Rahilly , mid fielders Leah O Neill and Rose Ann O Shea , Aine Rice ,Ashling O Connell and 2nd half Mary Healy & Rachel Godley . Subs Caoimhe and Cora really made a big impact on the game too .

Team : Robin White , Eve Creedon , Claire Kenny , Micheala Murphy , Niamh Rahilly , Tara Murphy , Maeve O Sullivan , Leah O Neill , Rose Ann O Shea , Aine Rice , Rachel Godley , Ashling O Connell , Lisa Curran , Mary Healy , Therese Keane.
Subs : Caoimhe Carroll for Eve Creedon , Cora Savage for Lisa Curran , Lisa Curran for Maeve O Sullivan and Cait Rice.

John Mitchels Club News

MitchelsINTERMEDIATED CHAMPIONSHIP.

John Mitchels 1-8
Ardfert 1-9

With a very much depleted team we put up a gallant performance away to Ardfert in the second round last Saturday evening. Ardfert had the aid of a strong breeze in the first half but for long periods of the half we were the more dominant team and should have gone in at half time more than a point in front. Half time score John Mitchels 1-4 Ardfert 0-6.

The turning point in the second half was a goal for Ardfert from a penalty and even though we got back on level terms near the end , Ardfert got a late point to leave them a point in front at full time. Full time score John Mitchels 1-7 Ardfert 1-8.

Feile U14 – Hurling
Congratulations to U14 team Member Brian Lonergan who represented Kerry in this years All Ireland Féile Hurling skills competition held in Co. Armagh last weekend. Brian did his family, his hurling club Parnells and Ballymac very proud indeed by finishing in a remarkable 4th overall, with counties of the hurling standard of Limerick, Waterford and Kilkenny in the top 3 it is truly a great achievement for Brian to finish on par with these great hurling counties and only for narrowly missing 3 frees he would have been in the top two. Along with finishing in 4th position Brian also brought home The Christy Ring Trophy for his fantastic efforts and high level of skills shown on the day. This trophy was for the highest ranked player from a Christy Ring Cup County. Well done Brian!

FAOI 14: Ballymac 8 21 Castlegregory 5 05
Played in perfect conditions last Monday evening Ballymac had a very comfortable win in the first round of this years Division 3 Central Region.

After their fine form shown in two challenge games the previous week Ballymac got off to a flying start with points from Daire Keane, Dylan Mc Hugh and David Rodgers before Castlegregory opened their scoring with a very well taken goal.

This goal was immediately ruled out by centre back Josh O Keeffe who goaled after a run from deep in his own half. Ballymac continued to apply pressure all over the field and this earned further points from Cillian Gallagher, Tadgh Brick and the ever improving Daire Chawke.

Ballymac conceded 2 defensive error goals which were ruled out before the short whistle with Daire Chawke and Tadgh Brick netting to leave half time score Ballymac 4-12 Castlegregory 3-01.
First score of the second half came from Daire Chawke who found the back of the net to settle Ballymac early in the half and with 3 goals from Daire Keane and score of the game from Diarmuid Lynch who hit the back of the net from 20 yards out.

With James Carmody kicking our last 2 points of the game the scorline did not do Castle any justice as they had some lovely passages of play.

Best for Ballymac were Tadgh Brick who controlled midfield from start to finish, Daire Keane at full forward who is now unmarkable and Darragh Lynch who worked very hard at wing forward. Many thanks to Club referee Roland Rogers for officiating on the night at such short notice as no referee turned up.

CAILINÍ: Following a bit of a wait we played Firies in the Division 4 semi final in Ballymac on Thursday 12th . It turned out to be a great game with both teams enjoying periods of dominance, we had a great start scoring 3 points from our first 3 attacks.

Firies came more into the game after that scoring 1-1 but we responded again scoring 2 more points before half time. We conceded an early goal in the second half but we responded very positively and 2 goals from Mary Healy and points from Rachel Godley and Aine Rice saw us lead by 5 pts with 10mins to go.\

Firies scored 2 points and with the last kick of the game they goaled to take it to a replay. Final score Ballymac 2-8 Firies 3-5

Replay was played in glorious sunshine on Sunday evening in Farranfore. A tighter game this time with defences on top for both sides.

Claire Kenny and Micheala Murphy playing quite well for Ballymac in defense and good play from U12 Ashling O Connell who scored 2 points and Aine Rice saw us lead by 5 pts to 4 pts at half time.

A very strong 2nd half display from midfielders Leah O Neill and captain fantasic Rose Ann O Shea and centre back Tara Murphy helped us finish out 1-8 to 5pts winners, our goal coming from Therese Keane from a great pass by Cora Savage.

Our backs all played very well on the night and a feature was their covering for each other , our U12s Eve , Lisa , Ashling and Cora really contributed too, Aine Rice played her heart out and Rose Ann O Shea led by example.

We play Laune Rangers B in the final time, place and date TBC . Well done to the girls and well deserved final appearance for them to look forward to now

FAOI 12: Ballymac A 5-15 Rahillys A 3-7.
Our final game in Division three county league, a win would ensure that we were crowned champions, and the boys did not disappoint.

The weather was glorious and the Ballymac pitch was in great condition. Straight from the throw in the lads got into the action and had a great tussle with a resolute Rahillys team. Some great passages of play ensued and our defence with Aidan O’Brien and Sean Pollman Daamen were well on top. At half time we lead 3-7 to 1-6. Strong words rang in the ears of the boys – don’t let this slip!

And they didn’t. Despite sweltering heat the lads pushed on, Eoghan Kenny and Kyle O’Connor put in huge work in the forward line. With Rahillys tiring and time running out our boys fitness drive them on to a great victory. Well done Division Three County League Champions!!
Team: Jack Tobin,Brian Cassidy, Aidan O’Brien, Sean Pollman Daamen, Ciaran Brosnan, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, Cian Godley, Darragh Broderick, Kyle O’Connor, Eoghan Kenny, Jon Lowe, Bryan Godley and Dara Leen.

FAOI 12 ( B): Ballymac V Rahillys.
A fine win for our U 11 boys as they displayed great skill and scoring against a depleted Rahillys side. The boys have just lost once in this league but it means a second place finish for them in the table. The boys can take great heart from the advances they have made since the start of the year. Keep up the great work boys.

Austin Stacks Club News

Austin StacksU14 FÉILE: All in the Senior Club wish our Juveniles and their Mentors (who include Gene O’Donnell, Michael Chips Clifford, Mike Casey, Dave Scanlon and Paudie McQuinn and all their backroom team) the best of luck as they travel to Barna, on the edge of the Connemara Gaeltacht, to represent Kerry in the annual U14 Féile Football Competition at the weekend (Friday to Sunday).

U21 FOOTBALL: Our U21s have a home game against Dingle in round 1 of the Co. Championship. It’s to go ahead in Connolly Park on this Wednesday evening (25th June) at 7.30pm. Strangely, this is our first ever meeting against Dingle in the competition (neither have we ever met West Kerry).

SENIOR FOOTBALL: As we write, our Co. League game (round 7) away to Listowel Emmets, which was fixed for this Saturday evening (28th June) is now unlikely to go head. Check Website for updates.

SENIOR HURLING: St. Pats (East Kerry) 3-7 (16); Austin Stacks 1-13 (16).

Two weeks ago when we visited Fossa we came away with an eighteen points victory in the South Kerry League. And perhaps this easy win might have been at the back of our minds on last Wednesday (18th June) when we visited the same venue to play the same opposition, this time in round 2 of the Co. League. This was a different Pats team however.

We had a very good start and lead by 0-4 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter with Paul Daly on target from two frees and a 65 and a beauty from play by Aaron Barry.

Then in the 16th minute St. Pats were back on level terms when they got through for a snap goal. The next 10 minutes brought just one wide each and one point each, both points from frees, ours from Paul after a foul on Jim McCarthy.

We then put over two in the closing minutes of the half, one from a Paul Daly free and, before that, a super score from wing back, Michael O’Leary after receiving a inch-perfect pass from Jim McCarthy. This left us two up at half time (0-7 to 1-2).

Just two minutes after the resumption Pats had turned this game on its head with a pointed free, followed by their second goal of the game and a point from play to put them three points clear at that stage. But we were still playing well, and with three good points, all from play, had the game back on level terms, (0-10 to 2-4) by the 42nd minute, with Jim McCarthy, Paul Daly and John McCarthy all on target.

A point by each side in the space of a minute followed – our effort from a well worked move, coming from Bella’s puck-out which found Andrew, who found John Mac and he put Joe Brennan through for one of the scores of the game. Then in the 47th minute another pointed free put the home side back in the lead again.

But this was short-lived as, in the space of a minute, we were back on top again when another excellent ball from Michael O’Leary put Joe Brennan through for our only goal of the game. Joe added to this five minutes later with another good point and when Paul Daly added another from a free in the 55th minute this left us four clear for the first time in the game.

This was still the margin when the clock ticked over the sixty minutes and Pats were awarded a free. Their low shot broke in the square and after a schmozzle the ball was scrambled to the net to cut our lead to one. Then deep in added time Pats were awarded a 65, which they converted and the final whistle sounded immediately for a share of the spoils.
Team: Peter Doyle, Kevin O’Leary, Damien McCarthy, Seán King, Michael O’Leary (0-1), Peter O’Regan, Andrew Morrissey, Shane Fitzgerald, Jim McCarthy (0-1), Paudie Bradley, Joe Brennan (1-2), Aaron Barry (0-1), Paul Daly (Capt) (0-7 – 5 frees, one 65), Ronan Gilsenan, John McCarthy (0-1).
No subs used.
So now we have played two and drawn two of this four game League and our next outing (in round 3, at home against Duagh), which was originally scheduled for this Wednesday (25th June) in Connolly Park, is likely to be put back to the following evening due to a clash with the U21F Championship.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: Kilcummin 4-11 (23); Austin Stacks 2-17 (23).
Ár bhuiochas le Brian Caball as ucht an cúntas seo leanas.
We started in lively fashion in pleasant Kilcummin and with Brian Ó Mongáin and Theo Ó Duigín getting good possession at midfield we built up a good score and led 1-3 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.

Eoin Colgan and the defenders were working well, marking tightly, gaining possession and willing to run forward in support. Mikey Collins, leading by example, scored the opener; Darren Tiernan goaled after gaining possession from a weak kickout; Mikey pointed a free after he was fouled and Danny Carroll pointed after great work by Darren.

After Kilcummin’s second point, Danny did a ‘double dummy’ and pointed. The next score came from Mikey again after Brian’s hard work gave the leather to Tom McLoughlin who parted to Theo who set up the score. We kicked a few balls to the opposition goalie before they goaled against the run of play.

Tom McLoughlin then did one of his hallmark runs and, with help from Dale Counihan, pointed. However, the tide was turning, our marking was sluggish and we conceded another point before the Kilcummin full-back availed of an opening and banged the ball past Paddy Fitz. Barry Walsh, with a nice pass, placed Mikey Collins who pointed again but 1-3 was scored against us before the end of the first half….1-7 to 3-5. Had we lost the initiative?

The East Kerry boys were first to score after the break (0-1) and, fortunately for us, missed a few scoring chances. Louis Ryle was drafted in, Darren Tiernan, who had done well at both the no. 11 and 14 positions, went to midfield and demonstrated his strength and power (even picking up a cárta buí) and Theo moved forward.

Then Séamus Bastible tore upfield and passed to Danny who goaled superbly. We thought that we were in the driving seat again but, faraor géar, loose making and a little carelessness allowed the Kilcummin wing back through for another goal. Darren, however, pointed from the kickout. He and Brian were working hard at midfield.

Calvin Foley and Kyle Fitzgibbon were called on board and fortune seemed to favour The Rock once again! A foul on Dale Counihan resulted in a Kyle point and it was followed by 0-2 from Calvin, the second after good work by Barry Walsh. Kyle pointed another free before the speedy Louis Ryle ran goalwards and punched a point.

Louis next placed Mikey Collins for another 0-1. With 10 minutes left Danny received from Brian after a great Louis run and pointed. Kilcummin pegged back 0-3! Bhí an lasair sa bharrach (the fat was in the fire)! Danny Carroll (after a great Barry Walsh rob!) and Mikey pointed. James Galvin and Breandán Caball were introduced.

We seemed to have ‘done it’ but two late Kilcummin points had the sides on equal terms…2-17 to 4-11! A fair result after an exciting encounter!

An fhoireann: Paddy Fitzgibbon; Dylan Harnett, Séamus Bastible, Cathal O’Reilly; Tom McLoughlin (0-1), Eoin Colgan, Barry Walsh; Brian Ó Mongáin, Theo Ó Duigín; Ciarán Flanagan, Darren Tiernan (1-1), Dale Counihan; Shane Crowley, Mikey Collins (0-6, 1 free), Danny Carroll (1-4). Subs: Louis Ryle (0-1) for C. Flanagan (25 min), Calvin Foley (0-2) for S. Crowley (40 min), Kyle Fitzgibbon (0-2, frees) for D. Counihan (45 min), James Galvin for T. Mcloughlin (50 min), Breandán Caball for T. Ó Duigín (55 min).

This draw means we have now booked a semi final slot against Rathmore, while table-toppers, Legion await the winners in the final. No dates have fixed as we write.

Juvenile Academy

Under 8’s

Last Sunday, St Pats U-8’s took part in a blitz which was very well held by our neighbours Ardfert. In the beautiful sunshine we played a number of games against Churchill and Ardfert. All the St Pats players played the full matches and they all played well.

With the slick moving Joseph Laucher and Samuel Barrero around the middle we were moving the ball well into a very determined forward line of Thomas Sheehy, Fionn Dairo, Daniel Sheehy and Kayla O’Connor.

They were very eager to get themselves on the score sheet but the management team were delighted also to see the players using good hand passing skills when they were put under pressure by the tackling of the oppositions.

Again our defence performed brilliantly in their St. Pats jersey’s. Orlaith Murphy, Jamie Lynch , Zack Howarth, and Killian Murphy’s hard tackling and close contact kept the Ardfert and Churchill forwards at bay.

Finally a special mention this week must go to the performance of Gráinne Breen who played in goals. Gráinne pulled off some very brave saves during the games and her long kickouts helped her team get on the front foot.

This was again very good outing for the U-8’s and the coaches of Johnny, Dipo and Conor were delighted to see the players using their skills and putting in a great effort in all the games so keep it up!!

Under 10’s

We saw another great turnout from our u10’s last Sunday morning. The players that caught their mentors eyes on the day were Cillian Lynch, Shane Howarth, Siobhan and Caoimhe O’Sullivan.

Under 12’s

Our u12’s also had training on Sunday morning. Michael Quirke visited St Pats and gave our boys a wonderful training session introducing new drills and tactics. Later our boys headed off to Listry to play a tough game.

Listry scored a few quick goals at the beginning but our boys still fought hard. Our first score came from Cormac Lynch with a lovely point but brother Cillian wasn’t allowing have all the glory and immediately got his name on the scoreboard with a great point also!!! We had most of the possession but again failed to take many of our scoring opportunities.

Our newcomer Samson Ayavi in defence played outstanding throughout the game blocking balls and catching balls out of the sky. Before the first half ended we saw 2 points from Tomas O’Sullivan and one from Danny Greaney. In the second half we came out alot stronger and we saw every forward put their name on the scoreboard.

Tomas scored the first point in the second half followed by another from Danny. Oisin then rattled the net with a skillful goal with great teamwork involved in this score.

Michael Doody, Michael Healy ,Samuel and Matthew Quilter supplied great ball into our forwards which saw Cillian Lynch score another point. This was quickly followed by a goal from both Danny and Tomas with a lovely short pass from Sean Crowley. Matthew Quilter and Sean Crowley both got their names on the scoreboard before the final whistle.

Another newcomer David Fiado made some great saves in goals and found his red and white teammates time and time again. Eventhough we were beaten we have a great team on our hands here with tremendous potential.

Also well done to our U10 players Liam O’Sullivan, Cillian Lynch, Sean Crowley and Shane Howarth and a huge welcome to David Fiado and Samson Ayavi. Team Liam O’Sullivan, David Fiado, Michael Doody, Danny Greaney(1-2), Samson Ayavi, Samuel, Tomas O ‘Sullivan (1-4), Oisin Tobin(1-0), Cormac Lynch(0-1), Matthew Quilter(0-1), Cillian Lynch(0-2), Sean Crowley(0-1), Mikey Heay and Shane Howarth.

Under 14’s

Our U14’s were beaten by Laune Rangers in the Central League last Sunday evening. They also hosted the New York Feile team last Monday night and had a BBQ afterwards. A great night was had by all. They are away to Castlegregory in the next round of the Central League this Monday night at 7pm.

Internal blitz

Our internal blitz continued last Wednesday evening in beautiful weather conditions.

This week our coaches Mono Ryle, Maurice Quirke, Dan O’Sullivan and Brian O’Grady focused on passing skills, to include at least 6 players on the field before a score is taken. After 2 rounds Leinster are on 10 points, Ulster are on their backs with 8 points, Connacht are on 4 points and Munster are trailing on 2 points.

Under 16’s

County League Div 7

St Pats 4-09
Knocknagoshel/Brosna 1-18

Move over Lazarus, there’s a new comeback King in town!

St Pat’s U16’s came from a massive 15 points down to nearly snatch an incredible victory from the jaws of a heavy defeat, but had to settle for the unlikeliest of draws.

Trailing by 1-17 to 0-05 with a little under a quarter of an hour to play, Shane O’Donoghue dug deepest and rallied the team from full-back, running the length of the pitch in possession and before unleashing an unstoppable shot to the roof of the net.

His inspired decision to take the game by the scruff of the neck, rallied our men and for the final stages of the game, they tore the previously impregnable Knock/Brosna defence to shreds.

Cian Rowan, operating from midfield, copied Shane’s blueprint and drove straight for the opposition goal and buried it.

Soon after, centre forward Josh Laucher, sniffing a change in the game, cleverly positioned himself further in towards the edge of the box, dragging his marker out of position and opening a huge gap in the defence.

The inspirational Joe Quilter and Kieran Dwyer, both of whom had outstanding displays, drove forward time and again and from 2 of these surges, Josh Laucher finished to the back of the net twice.

The ice-cool composure from free kicks of Eoin Greaney drew the game level. With time ticking away and momentum totally in our favour, Mikey Cahill and Brian Murphy outfought their men and launched an attack that nearly won the game. But time had run out and the referee blew the final whistle.

This was an incredible turnabout and a complete and utter shock to a Knock/Brosna team that had played some wonderful attacking football with Darren Horan, Kieran Horan and Patrick Moriarty in particular catching the eye. Knock/Brosna hit some incredible scores and looked well on course for victory, having led 1-11 to 0-5 at half-time.

This was a marvellous comeback by St Pats and each player deserved tremendous credit for finding that inner belief when it was most needed. A special mention must be made of our U14 panel members, Ali Gardezi, Adam Boyle, Martin Savage, Damien Quirke and Patrick Dowling, who more than proved themselves on the night.

Panel on the night: Seán Hogan, Shane O’Donoghue (1-0), Mikey Cahill, Brian Murphy, Joe Quilter, Joe O’Connor, Cian Rowan(1-1), Kieran Dwyer(0-2), Adam Boyle, Josh Laucher(2-4), Martin Savage, Eoin Greaney(0-2), Ali Gardezi, Damien Quirke, Patrick Dowling.

Our U16’s are at home to Duagh this Wednesday night at 7:30pm in Blennerville.

Juniors

Junior County League Group 5:

Duagh 0-5 St Pats 1-08

Our Juniors continued on their winning ways with a win away to Duagh Last Thursday evening. It certainly wasn’t as clinical a performance compared to the earlier rounds but nevertheless, the win sees them top Group 5 with 5 wins out of 5.

The first half was poor fare for the handful of spectators as the score-line read 1-1 to 3 points in favour of St Pats. St Pats kicked into gear right from the re-start with a point from Centre Back Paudie O’Connor and they took control of the game over the next 15 minutes scoring 6 points.

Duagh fought hard in the final quarter and had a few shots for goal just going over the bar. However, St Pats were much the stronger team and ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-5. This win puts them straight through to the final where they await the winners of St Senan’s vs Churchill. There has been no date fixed for this fixture as yet but it hopefully should be played in the next 2-3 weeks. However, the Tralee Town Junior League will commence on Monday June 30th where we will host Na Gaeil in the first round. Throw in at 7:30pm.

Team-J Fitzgerald, K Quirke, Joe Costello, J Quilter, S Dowling, P O’Connor, T O’Connor, Jeffrey Foley, A O’Callaghan, S Hayes, G Savage, J Conway, E Sayers, T O Sullivan, P O Sullivan & B Boyle.

Seniors

County Senior Football League Div 2 Rd 7:

St Pats 0-06 Killarney Legion 2-13

Our seniors were overpowered by a very strong and well drilled Killarney Legion side last Saturday evening in glorious conditions in Blennerville. The opening quarter was an even affair with Legion leading 3-2 whilst playing with a strong wind.

However the game turned against the home side when Legion & Kerry U21 star Conor Keane finished to the net in the 18th minute. Legion went on to add a further 1-5 before the short whistle with the second goal again coming from Keane after a tremendous run and assist from Thomas Moriarty.

St Pats only reply during this second quarter period was a free from Kerry Junior panellist Kieran Hurley. Half Time Score: St Pats 0-3 Legion 2-8. The second half was a non contest as Legion managed to thwart a few early attacks on goal by St Pats.

There was 3 black cards issued in the second half for minor discretions. However it must be said the game was played in good spirit throughout. Legion are in pole position in the League and another victory will surely see them back up in Division 1 in 2015.

St Pats on the other hand are re-building and will need to win all remaining four games to harbour any hope of maintaining their Division Two status. Best for St Pats on the night were Brendan Poff & Michael O’Sullivan.

Final Score: St Pats 0-6 Legion 2-13. St Pats: P Bailey, P O’Connor, P McMahon, Jake Foley, S Dowling, L Poff, J Quilter, M O’Sullivan, L O’Sullivan, A Byrne, J Costello, B Poff, K Hurley, W Hurley & Jeffrey Foley. Subs: T O’Connor for Jeffrey Foley (inj), G Savage for P McMahon (BC), A O’Callaghan for L Poff (BC), D Kerins for W Hurley.

Ref: Stephen Mulvihill. The senior’s next competitive outing is in the County League. They travel to Gneevguilla on the weekend of July 26th/27th.

Blennerville N.S.

We had a fantastic day on Sunday June 15th with our annual BBQ fun day. It began with a hike from Tonevane and ended at Curraheen church with plenty of food and fun for all ages.

The draw took place for our fundraiser for school lap-tops and we thank everyone who contributed. We raised €9,500. The winners of the cash prizes were: Mike O’Connor, our ex-principal (no, it wasn’t a fix!) winning €1,000.

Other smaller cash winners were Conor O’Donoghue, Natasha Tobin, Helen Sugrue (ex-vice pr), Peggy Farmer, Stephen Geaney, Pat Foley, Rachel Dunne, Anne O’Donnell and Stacey O’Leary.

Well done to you all. Thanks so much to our wonderful Parent’s Association for their time and hard work organising the day, to those who donated food, BBQs. Thanks Fr Francis for the use of the church garden, Marie Fleming for face-painting, Tralee Equestrian Centre for the pony rides, our chefs, and to all for coming.

FAOI 8: (i) We had some tremendous games in glorious sunshine at the Na Gaeil Club GoGames on Thursday last. (ii) More Under 8 football at 6pm this Thursday in Connolly Park. We take on Killarney’s Legion. (iii) Football as usual at 11am on Sunday i gCathair Sailí.

FAOI 10: (i) Ardfert were the visitors to Connolly Park on Sunday last and we had two excellent games. ‘Performance of the week’ came from the brilliant Jamie O’Shea who bagged no less than eight goals in the Under 9 game. Wow! (ii) Thursday football for our Under 10s in CONNOLLY PARK at 7pm. (ii) Cathair Sailí will be our Sunday morning venue…ag 11am.

FAOI 11: Our Under 11s travelled to Killarney on Sunday last and maintained their unbeaten run with a fine victory over Dr Crokes. Yes, five-in-a-row for our lads and this was their best team performance to date! With the match just minutes old, Ciarán Kelliher bagged 2 goals in quick succession. Jordan Kissane followed with another ‘trademark’ burst from midfield for another goal. Ben Quilter was having a quiet time in goal but when danger did arise he was well able to leap high to save! Scór ag leatham: 5-6 to 1-1. James Charles kicked scores from all over the field to finish with a ‘team high’ of 1-7. Donnacha Fox and Evan Foley worked hard throughout the encounter to win a lot of possession. In the end it was a comfortable win for The Rock. An scór deireanach: 5-13 to 4-6. Maith sibh, a leaideanna!

FAOI 12: (i) On Sunday last our Under 12s’ football odyssey took them to Lewis Road to play the Dr Croke Club for the 2nd time in 2014. We travelled with confidence, having registered a 5 point winning margin in our previous encounter. However, the cliche ‘a game of two halves’ perfectly sums up this contest. We started in hesitant mode with none of our charges winning their individual battles. This left us trailing at half time…5-11 to 0-4. The second half saw us much more competitive but our first half collapse left a gap that couldn’t be bridged. We tightened up at the back and improved considerably but lost the second half by a mere 3 points. Final score: 5-17 to 0-7. Scorers: Luke Chester, James Fernane, Conor Horan, Cian Purcell and Liam Tobin. (ii) Training continues on Monday and on Wednesday…6pm to 7.30pm. See you all then, lads!

FAOI 15: ‘Well done’ to our Under 15 Supertouch Blitz boys!

FAOI 14: (i) Best wishes to our Under 14 boys who’ll represent The Kingdom at the Féile Náisiúnta Pheil na nÓg games in Galway/Mayo next weekend.

We will be hosted by Barna GAA Club, just outside Galway City and beyond Salthill, and all are looking forward to a great weekend of fine weather, good fun, new friends and skilful football. Tá Stacaigh Thrá Líar an tslí! Thanks to Lorraine Scanlon (who has been the chief organiser of the trip) and to her team for all the hard work over the past few weeks. We will be leaving the club grounds at 10.30am on this Friday. Our first game will be v Salthill/Cnoc na Cathrach (Galway) at 5pm.

Our second game will be at 6.20pm v the Derry Féile champions, Magherafelt,. On Saturday morning at 11am our hosts, Barna, will turn rivals in the last round of the group.

This will be followed by either a Cup or Shield quarter final (on Saturday). If lucky enough to win, we’ll be off to Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo, on Sunday where all semi-finals and finals will be played. Check your atlas…Ballyhaunis (not far from Knock) is a good drive from Bearna na Gaillimhe!

This is a big undertaking and we have been fortunate to benefit from a range of fund raising efforts and sponsorship for which we would like to express our gratitude to BARRYS’ BAKERY, TERRY HEALY BUTCHERS, LEE STRAND, ADAMS’ BAR AND RESTAURANT DINGLE, TESCO, OFFICEANDINK, OUR OWN CLUB, COISTE NA nÓG THRÁ LÍ and COISTE NA nÓG CHIARRAÍ for their support.

It really is greatly appreciated by all! A big ‘thank you’ also to mentors Dave Scanlon, Mike “Chips” Clifford, Mike Casey, Paudie McQuinn and Gene O’Donnell for all the time and effort that they have put in all year. And finally, ‘go raibh maith agaibh’ to the boys themselves who are at the centre of it all.

Everyone in the club and in The Rock community is proud of everything that you have achieved to date and we all send our best wishes. We hope that the whole squad has a memorable weekend, both on and off the field.

Boys, you will be representing yourselves, your families and your club and county. Check HYPERLINK “http://www.austinstacks.ie” www.austinstacks.ie for UPDATES from Galway/Mayo! Massive congratulations to Brian Lonergan who came 4th in the overall Féile Skills competition and won the Christy Ring section of the competition in Armagh.

Camogie Blitz
Parnells will host our first ever under 8 & 10 Camogie Blitz on Saturday the 12th of July at 1030 in Ballymac GAA.

This is a major undertaking for our fledgling Camogie players, so all support and assistance from parents and supporters will be most welcome. Please contact our mentors if you can help out on the day.

Well done 15s
We saw a great match on Thursday the 19th in Caherslee when Parnells under 15s hosted St. Brendan’s Ardfert.

Parnells were minus Brian Lonergan who was on club duty representing us at the Féile skills competition in Armagh. His team mates showed great character in a tight and closely fought encounter, where the lead switched multiple times.

In the second half Parnells drew level with a goal, and soon after Devon pulled off an excellent full stretch save to prevent us losing the lead. In the final minutes Declan finished to the net from close range, and Parnells came out ahead on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-6.

Churchill vs Cromane Co. League:

Churchill secured another brace of County League points on Saturday night after a hard earned win over Cromane.

In what was a very wasteful display, the home team made hard work of securing the points. Churchill made a number of changes on their team from the Firies game, some of them enforced due to exam commitments. Cromane had three points on the board before Churchill got going, with a Benny Dillon close-in free on 10 minutes.

Shane McMahon added a second on 15 minutes after good build up along the end line. The sides were level after 19 minutes when Benny Dillon scored a lovely point off his left foot, following a great length-of –the-pitch move.

Cromane edged ahead again on 22 minutes before Mark O’Connor set up Dillon for an excellent score to level the match. Churchill dominated possession in this period but kicked a number of very bad wides, whereas Cromane were very economical and seemed to be able to score with each attack.

With the half almost up, Cromane were two points ahead, but Dillon again pulled one back on the stroke of half time.
Half Time: Churchill 0-05 Cromane 0-06.

Churchill came flying out of the blocks in the second half, with a great point from play from full-back Daniel Doyle, who worked tirelessly throughout the match, after 18 seconds.

Cromane edged ahead again after 4 minutes with a good point from play from their midfielder. Then, after a goalmouth scramble and a number of blocked efforts, JJ Prior popped up to put the ball over the bar.

Churchill took the lead for the first time after 10 minutes when Dillon put over a lovely point after a great break out of defence by Doyle. Churchill then went further in front with a pointed free from Dillon and Ciaran Crowley got on the scoresheet with an excellent score from play.

Cromane brought the scores back to the minimum with a free. On 19 minutes, PJ O’Mahony, who had a great game throughout, found himself one on one with the Cromane ‘keeper, but his shot was blocked.

You feared that this was not going to be Churchill’s night. Sean O’Sullivan showed all his class to score a great point from play for Cromane and the sides were level once again.

Benny Dillon converted a free with 7 minutes left to steady the ship and he then followed it up with a point from play with a great turn and shot. With a minute of normal time left, Cromane pulled one back from a free, before Doyle again and young wing-back Donnacha McGarry got the last two points of the match.

This was far from a vintage performance and Churchill will have tougher matches this year, but when they came under a little bit of pressure, the team showed great resilience to carve out the win and stay in the Div 4 promotion race.

Full Time: Churchill 0-14 Cromane 0-10.

Team: Eoghan O’Brien, PJ O’Mahony, Daniel Doyle (0-02), Mitchell Holland, JJ Prior (0-01), Garrett Walsh, Donnacha McGarry (0-01), Mikey Brennan, Ciaran Crowley (0-01), Chris Hurley (c), Mark O’Connor, Dara O’Shea, Brian Hill, Benny Dillon (0-08, 3 frees), Shane McMahon (0-01).

The B team will play Charlie Kerins in the Spa on Friday night at 7.30pm.

Senior Football
14th June 2014 Credit Union Co. League Rd 6

We were well beaten by Dr. Crokes in this Credit Union Co. League played at the Caherina grounds in ideal conditions on Saturday evening last. With an exodus of players to America it was a mixture of old and young that took to the field with a lot of players making their debut. It was an uphill battle from the throw in but the writing was on the wall after ten minutes when Dr Crokes led by 0-06 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 coming from Timmy Sullivan who came out of retirement to help the cause and played a fine game throughout.

Our second point was put over by Declan Quill who showed that he still has great football where he was the one thorn in the Crokes side throughout the game. John O’Connor had our third point from play and a great save by Garry Kissane in this half prevented a certain goal. But it was Dr Crokes who dominated and a string of points and a goal before half time left them ahead at half time by 1-12 to 0-04 and the game as good as over.

Dr Crokes dominated the second half and though we had points from Declan Quill, Timmy O Sullivan and Rory Molloy Dr Crokes ran out deserved winners at the final whistle.

Junior Football League Group 1 As the notes went to print Strand Rd were due to play Rathmore. Result next week.

Austin Stacks Club News 16/06/14

Austin StacksSENIOR FOOTBALL

Austin Stacks 0-15; Dingle 0-7.

Our previous trip to Dingle, five weeks ago, ended in a six points defeat for us, in the quarter final of the Club Championship. But our journey back west on a glorious summer’s evening last Saturday (14th June), for round six of the Co. League, reversed that result, thereby continuing our unbeaten run in this season’s League.

The first half ended all square on four points each with Shane Carroll contributing three from placed balls and our only score from play coming from David Mannix in the 24th minute.

stacks_1

Four minutes after the resumption Dingle went ahead again. But we were defending in numbers, as we did in the first half, soaking up all the pressure that Dingle threw at us and we now started to attack in droves. And this included almost everyone from Ciarán O’Connell, wearing the unfamiliar number two jersey, out.In the space of five minutes (from the 35th to the 40th) we went into a three points lead (0-8 to 0-5) with four great scores from David Mannix, Darragh O’Brien, Fiachna Mangan and Greg Horan.

In the next ten minutes two points for the home side and one for us by Mikey Collins left us ahead by two with ten minutes remaining (0-9 to 0-7). But we took complete control in those remaining minutes, scoring a further six points without reply. Two of these came from two more Shane Carroll frees with the other four coming from play by David Mannix (his 3rd of the day) and three brilliant points from two of our outstanding defenders – Conor Jordan with two and the other one by corner back Ciarán O’Connell.

rsz_stacks_sean_ryan_1
Minor, Sean Ryan, had his first full senior match in the Black and Amber. Photo by Adrienne McLoughlin

Our display, especially in that second half, was as good as we have seen all season. Jonathan’s kick-outs almost always found a Rock man, as they normally do. Team captain, Barry Shanahan, launched many a Stacks attack. Seán Ryan, playing his first full game (he made his debut the previous week when coming on as a sub) was very impressive. Wayne Guthrie won a lot of ball around the middle and the evergreen Kirby got a standing ovation when coming off after playing 58 of the 60 minutes. Up front all our six forwards scored.

Team: Jonathan Conway, Ciarán O’Connell (0-1), Barry Shanahan (Capt), John Dennis, Pa McCarthy, Conor Jordan (0-2), Seán Ryan, Wayne Guthrie, William Kirby, Michael Collins (0-1), Greg Horan (0-1), Fiachna Mangan (0-1), David Mannix (0-3), Shane Carroll (0-5 frees), Darragh O’Brien (0-1).
Subs: Darragh Long (54m), Darren Tiernan (58m).

SF CO. CHAMPIONSHIP: We have drawn Rathmore in the next round (last 15) of the Co. Championship. This will only be the second meeting between the sides in this competition. Our only other meeting was at the quarter final stage of the 2010 Championship when we had eight points to spare (1-13 to 1-5) over the East Kerry side.
There is a possibility, if so desired, that the game could double up with the round 4 Co. League game, as both ties are home games for us.

SENIOR HURLING: Austin Stacks 2-9; Kenmare 2-9.

So far, this season, it has been impossible to separate these sides. When they met at the end of April in the first round of the South Kerry League it ended in a draw. Both teams ended up on seven points each in the League table at the end of the round stage of the League. So last Wednesday evening’s (11th June) game, played in ideal conditions in Connolly Park, doubled up as a play-off in that South KerryLeague (with the winners to go through to the final and the losers contesting a semi final against Duagh) and as round 1 of the County SH League (Div 3).

We had a very good first half. We defended very well, with Peter O’Regan and Andrew Morrissey clearing their lines on numerous occasions and Kevin O’Leary, Paudie Bradley, Jim McCarthy and Seán King as solid as ever. Michael O’Leary was soundness personified in his unusual position in goals.

Upfront the scores were coming as well with goals by John McCarthy and Joe Brennan and points from Ronan Gilsenan, Paul Daly ( 2 frees) and Danny Maguire and one also from Joe Brennan. New man, Aaron Barry was also catching the eye with good incisive play as was Brian Meehan. Shane Fitzgerald was doing well in the centre also. The one concerning factor was the number of wides we had in that first half – 11 in all – which was most uncharacteristic for our lads, especially on a glorious summer’s evening.

So at half time things looked comfortable enough when we led by 2-5 to 1-1 after playing well within ourselves.
A win for us looked odds on eight minutes into the second half when we had extended that lead with two more points from John McCarthy and Danny Maguire But gradually Kenmare edged themselves back into the game, scoring six points without reply between the 40th and 56th minutes to leave just three between the sides at that stage (2-7 to 1-7). Paul Daly converted a 65 in the 58th minute to put us four up again, but in the space of a minute Kenmare added a goal and a point to see the sides level for the first time in the game.

In the 61st minute Paul Daly put us in front again with a pointed free after Brian Meehan was fouled but on the stroke of full time the visitors equalized and that’s how it ended.
The result meant a point on the Co. League table for both sides but it also necessitates a replay to determine who goes where in the South Kerry League (winners to the final, losers to the semi final).

As we said it was good to see Aaron Barry making his Senior debut – he did play Juvenile Hurling with the Club in the past. It was also good to welcome new-comer Stephen Pierce to the squad and also good to welcome back Ross Long after an absence.

Team: Michael O’Leary, Kevin O’Leary, Peter O’Regan, Paudie Bradley, Andrew Morrissey, Jim McCarthy, Seán King, Shane Fitzgerald, Joe Brennan (1-1), John McCarthy (1-1), Danny Maguire (0-2), Aaron Barry, Paul Daly (Capt) (0-4 – 3 free, one 65), Ronan Gilsenan (0-1), Brian Meehan.

Subs: David Field (45m), Kieran McCaughley (50m), Damien McCarthy (51m).
Our round 2 Co. League game, against St. Pats (East Kerry), is due to go ahead in Fossa on this Wednesday evening (18th June) at 7.30pm.

CONGRATULATIONS: to Club Hurler Seán King and Eva Corcoran on the recent birth of their son, Michael.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: Our B team were due to play their penultimate round of the Co. League away to Legion on Monday evening (16th June). With both teams topping the League Table on five points each a win will put us in the League final for the second year in succession. In the competition so far we had good wins over O’Rahillys (4-13 to 0-9) and Mitchels (1-17 to 0-7) and a draw away to Rathmore (1-10 each).

PÁDRAIG LYNCH: All in the Club extend congratulations and best wishes to Pádraig Lynch as he takes up a new jobs position in Kildare. While dual player Podge will not be severing his ties totally with the Club (he will be commuting down for the occasional game when time permits) his loss, nonetheless, will be felt by both Hurlers and Footballers alike and also by the Club Executive of which he was a loyal and valued member. Best of luck again Podge.

CONGRATULATIONS: to Tracey Nelligan (former Bar Manager) and Louis Heaphy (former Club footballer) who were married recently

CLUBHOUSE: As always the Clubhouse is available for all types of Parties. Phone Ian from 7pm at 066 7126942 for bookings.

Austin StacksFAOI 6: (i) Under 6 football will be in CONNOLLY PARK at 7pm on Thursday next. (ii) Sunday morning football as usual at 11.00am in CAHERSLEE.

FAOI 8: (i) The ‘GoGames’ for our Under 8s will take place at 7pm on Thursday at Na Gaeil Club and (ii) we’ll have our usual football at 11am in CAHERSLEE on Sunday.

FAOI 10: (i) Thursday football for our Under 10s will be in CONNOLLY PARK at 7pm and (ii) CAHERSLEE will be our venue for Sunday morning…ag 11am.

FAOI 11: Our Under 11s won a hard-fought match Sunday evening at Na Gaeil pitch. Early points from Jack Duggan and Brian McElligott had us leading by a single point…0-2 v 0-1…but, as the first half wore on, Na Gaeil came more into the game and finished the first half stronger than our boys…2-2 v 0-4. The Rock started the second half with gusto; they were on fire and within 5 minutes of the restart James Charles had rattled the net for 3 goals.

In the 32nd minute Robert Morrissey pointed a free and when Jordan Kissane drove forward for a goal in the 40th minute our boys looked comfortable as they led by leading by 0-7! Ach ní mar a shíltear a bítear! Na Gaeil fought back and cut the deficit to a point. Joe Reidy, flanked by Jack Twamley and Ruairí Ó Conaill, gave a ‘master class’ dispaly at full-back. We hung on for a breath-taking and heart-throbbing one point victory…in true Rock style! Maith sibh, a leaideanna! Our next encounter will be on Sunday next, 22nd, when we’ll travel to Killarney to take on The Crokes. Good luck, boys!

FAOI 12: (i) Our Under12s had to live with being second best against a spirited Na Gaeil team at Cillín on Sunday last. We started well and controlled the early exchanges with Shane Bastible, Cian Purcell and Owen Healy putting us in a commanding position. Some lax defending, however, let our opponents back into the contest and, despite the assistance of a stiff breeze, we led by a mere 0-3 ag an mbriseadh…3-5 v 2-5. In the second period, we never adapted to the extremely warm conditions and Na Gaeil ran out comfortable and deserving winners. If past experiences of this panel are repeated, one may expect a huge performance against Dr. Crokes on Sunday next. How about it, boys? (ii) Training continues on Monday and on Wednesday…6pm to 7.30pm. See you all then, lads!

FAOI 15: Best wishes to our Under 15 Supertouch Blitz, boys!

FAOI 14: (i) Our pre-Féile training is going nicely…we’ll keep in touch per text re dates and times. We are really looking forward to Féile Náisiúnta Pheil na nÓg in Bearna na Gaillimhe on 27th, 28th and 29th June…an tseachtain seo chugainn! (ii) Austin Stack Club’s Under 14 Féile na nÓg Family Fun Quiz was a great success on Friday night in Connolly Park. It was well attended by our young footballers and their families. Thanks to all who were involved and who participated.

The quiz was won by a brilliant answering team comprising of Mike Fitzgerald, Marina Barry-Walsh, John Walsh and Anne Fitzgerald…the brains of The Rock! They pipped 2 other highly motivated and intelligent teams in a three-way play-off at the top. (Perhaps, we’ll have a quiz team for Scór ’15!) The tension was nerve-racking! B’é Ciarán Ó Muircheartaigh an quizmháistir to whom the organising committee extends great appreciation. Thanks to all the local business people for their kind sponsorship and generous raffle prizes. Galway/Mayo, here we come!

FAOI 16: (i) ‘Hope you’ve all survived the exams! Well done and don’t be too worried about results….enjoy the fine weather and the long summer ahead! (ii) We started our county league campaign this Wednesday evening, 18th, at home to Dr Crokes…ag 7.30pm.

Ballymac played Glenflesk in round 6 of the county league last Saturday night in Glenflesk.

Glenflek opened the scoring in the first minute with a point from their centre forward Dara Roche. Ballymac were quick to respond with two points in succession from Gene Griffin and Dermot Leen. However this was the finish of our scoring in the first half. In the next 20 minutes Glenflesk scored seven points . Jeff O Donoghue at full forward and his brother Lee at corner forward provided the majority of these points. The killer blow came in the 25th minute when Lee O Donoghue goaled for Glenflesk. Another point for the home side on the 30th minute left the half time score at Glenflesk 1.9 Ballymac 0.2

Having made a few changes Ballymac started the second half with a point from Aiden Breen in the 2nd minute. Glenflek responded with 3 points in the following 3 minutes. Aiden Breen added to Ballymac’s tally with a point from a free. Daniel O Shea and David O Donoghue exchanged points. Glenflesk scored 4 more points before Daniel O Shea registered 2 for Ballymac. JUNIORS
Our Juniors complete their Co. Junior League campaign when they take on Desmonds on this coming Friday night in Castleisland.
ERIC MASON MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 2014
The Third Staging of this Invitational Tournament in memory of Ballymacelligott Juvenile player, Eric Mason who passed away over three years ago took place at the Ballymacelligott GAA grounds on Saturday last, June 14th.

Blessed with fine sunny weather on the day, it was a well-run and exciting competition with clubs from Milltown/ Castlemaine, Ballydonoghue, Kenmare, Castleisland Desmonds, Kilcummin as well as Ballymac partaking in this 11 aside U-15 Blitz. We were very fortunate with the fine dry weather on the day as this six team tournament took centre stage. After a series of round-robin games Ballymacelligott emerged as Group 1 Winners with Ballydonoghue finishing Runners –Up and in Group 2, Kenmare were table-toppers with Miltown/Castlemaine in second place. There was some fine attacking and flowing football in evidence on the day and it was very entertaining for the large crowd in attendance.

In the semi-finals, Ballymac overcame the Mid-Kerry side with a hard fought victory with possession football to the fore by the hosts and Ballydonoghue proved too strong and too physical for a very slick Kenmare side in the second semi-final. It was a showdown between too evenly matched teams in the final with play swinging from end to end, but eventually Ballymacelligott possessed too many ace players and ultimately emerged as winners of the Eric Mason Memorial Cup at the third time of asking with great footballing flair.

Players such as Josh O Keeffe, Tadhg Brick, Liam O Brien, Cathal Dunne and Eddie Rogers in defence stood out as did Liam O Malley, Darragh Regan, Cillian Gallagher and Daire Keane in attack. ‘Keeper Brian Lonergan was sound throughout all four games, with a spectacular penalty save at one stage; and David Rogers and captain fantastic Keelan Brosnan contributing to some outstanding football last Saturday. There was also a Player of the Tournament and this honour went to Eoin O Malley from Ballymac with some scintillating performances right throughout the day and his never say die attitude was so admirable for all to see.

Others on the squad were Darragh Clifford, Barry Lyons and Kieran Coggins but all three were unable to play due to long-term injury. Coaches Tony Silles, Gene O Keeffe and Roland Rogers were well impressed with all four displays in the competition and are so proud of their charges. Understandably, it was an emotional day for the Mason Family and all involved in the organisation of the event were very proud of how the day went.

The club would like to offer their appreciation to the Mason Family for allowing the competition to take place in memory of Eric and all would agree that it was a huge success. It is hoped that this blitz will continue from year to year and grow from strength to strength in the forthcoming years.

Ballymacelligott GAA Coiste na nÓg would like to extend their gratitude to all who made the event possible, including parents, catering staff, referees George O Donnell and Pádraig Laide, and we would like to thank all the participating teams in the blitz for such a wonderful day. Míle Buíochas do chách !

U12: Under 12 Co League Division 3A Kilcummin 1 – 7 Ballymac 5 – 8. A fine win for our lads played in very warm conditions at Kilcummin. The boys knew going into this game they had to win to retain their chance of winning the league. They didn’t disappoint and all played their part in ensuring we came away with the points. Dylan Dunne Moriarty showed for everything in the forward line, Jack Tobin in goals is developing with every game. Our final games sees us play Kerins O Rahillys at home on Wednesday 18th June 2014

Division 3 B : Kilcummin 0-10 Ballymac 1 – 1. Our younger squad had a tough game against a very well drilled Kilcummin outfit. Despite not conceding any goals, the lads were outdone by a slicker side. Daragh Sweeny and Cathal Culloty worked hard to bring Ballymac into the game however they had to settle for second best on the evening.

ACADEMY: It was clear skies and sunshine Sunday morning for our budding stars. Darragh McMahon, Conor Lynch, Daniel Creagh, Sean Martin and Cian Gilroy had a great training session for the U6 boys. Juvenile Academy:

Our Juvenile Academy have begun training twice a week, on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings as usual. We were very lucky with the weather conditions last week so we saw our players turning up in large numbers.

Under 12’s:

Our u12’s played at home on Sunday evening against Cordal. It was a very exciting first half seeing plenty of scores from both sides. We saw goals from Oisin Tobin, Liam O’Sullivan, Cormac Lynch and a lovely soccer style goal by Martin Laucher and points by Tomas O’Sullivan, Martin Laucher, Sean Crowley and Cormac Lynch leaving the half time score St.Pats 4-5 Cordal 5-6. However, in the second half we failed to take our scoring opportunities kicking numerous wides and missing goal chances seeing only 3 scores.

We saw 2 points from Danny Greaney and a lovely goal by Tomas O’Sullivan with a fine ball kicked in from Martin. Cordal took advantage of our misses and popped the ball over the bar repeatedly. Our defence Matthew Quilter, Danny Greaney, Mikey Healy, Michael Doody, Cillian Lynch, Oisin Murray and Sean Fitzgibbon were kept busy in the second half and Mario Ilavsky made some great saves in goals.

Final score St.Pats 5-7 Cordal 5- 16.

Team: Mario Ilavsky, Matthew Quilter, Danny Greaney, Mikey Healy, Michael Doody, Tomas O’Sullivan, Cormac Lynch, Oisin Tobin, Sean Crowley, Liam O’Sullivan, Martin Laucher, Cillian Lynch, Oisin Murray and Sean Fitzgibbon.

Under 14’s:

Finally after a tough county league and a hard brendan’s league, we have got our first win of the year in the central league. We started off with Patrick Dowling in goals and put Tristan centre-field with Shane. Supporting them on the centre lines were Martin, Ali, Cian, Brian, Adam, Ciaran with Damien and Cathal in the full back line, James & Fergal up front. The sub bench of Aaron and Tomas and Darack all played their part well when they came on.

It was great to see everyone trying so hard but man of the match must go to Brian Teahan. Final score St Pats 3-11 Stacks 1-07. Our next central league is away to Laune rangers and on the 23rd we will have a challenge game against the New York Feile team.

Internal blitz:

Our internal blitz continued last Wednesday evening in beautiful weather conditions. This week our coaches Mono Ryle, Maurice Quirke, Dan O’Sullivan and Brian O’Grady focused on passing skills, to include at least 6 players on the field before a score is taken. After 2 rounds Leinster are on 10 points, Ulster are on their backs with 8 points, Connacht are on 4 points and Munster are trailing on 2 points.

Under 16’s:

Our u16’s played a challenge game at home last Saturday evening against Castlegregory. St. Pats dominated the first half seeing some lovely scores from Gearoid Dillane, Joshua Laucher and Shane Jordan. Kieran Dwyer played an outstanding game in midfield winning possession of numerous balls. half time score St.Pats 1-7 Castlegregory 0-3.

In the second half we rotated our players, playing most players in different position. This gave Castlegregory a chance to get into the game scoring 3 consequyive goals including a penalty.Final score St.Pats 1-7 Castlegregory 4-6. Team: Patrick Dowling, Mikee Cahill, Joe O Connor, Brian Murphy, Eoin Murphy, Joe Quilter, Cian Ronan, Kieran Dwyer, Joshua Laucher, Shane Jordan, Gearoid Dillane, Eoin Greaney, Jack Lynch, Martin Savage and Damien Quirke.

County Senior Football League Div 2 Rd 6:

Listry 1-13 St Pats 1-10

Our seniors made a return to competitive action last Sunday after a break for the early rounds of the Senior County Championship. Listry were the opposition and the game was played in perfect conditions in Listry. St Pats started brightly with two early points from their best player on the day, Kieran Hurley. Listry quickly cancelled out these scores in the 8thand 10th minute of the game with two well worked scores of their own. For the remainder of the half, Listry were in total dominance as St Pats lost their way, particularly around the middle of the field.

The Listry forwards tacked on 1-6 in this period to have a commanding lead of 7 points at half time. In truth, they had the St Pats defence in 6’s & 7’s and could have been ahead by a lot more but took the safe option with one on one goal chances by fisting over the bar. HT Score Listry 1-8 St Pats 0-4. St Pats made a few substitutions at half time and they started the half in whirlwind fashion with the two Hurley’s and in particular Brendan Poff, tormenting the Listry rearguard.

Two points from Kieran Hurley in the 35th & 39th minute reduced the deficit to 5 points as St Pats were in control of the game from midfield up. A fantastic incisive run by Brendan Poff drew the Listry defence, he laid off to Willie Hurley and his goalbound shot was flicked outside the post by the Listry keeper. His brother Kieran converted the “45” and added another point from play to bring the scoreline 1-8 to 0-8 in favour of the home team.

Listry made some tactical switches and it had an immediate effect and they tacked on two points in the 42nd and 46th minute. In between these scores, St Pats wasted another guilt edge goal opportunity. Liam Poff made a great run and put Willie Hurley threw and his shot was again saved by the Listry keeper. St Pats eventually scored the goal they so badly needed in the 50th minute.

Another fantastic run by Brendan Poff saw him lay off to Kieran Hurley. Kieran’s shot was saved by a Listry defender but Willie was on hand to finish to the net. This made it a two point game with ten to go with St Pats in the ascendency. However, Listry fought back well and scored three unanswered points in 5 minutes to negate the earlier goal from Willie Hurley. St Pats tried their best to score another goal to set up a grand stand finish but it wasn’t to be. Two shots from substitute David Kerins went over the bar to reduce the deficit to 3 points just before the final whistle from referee Cathal O’Dubhda.

Final Score Listry 1-13 St Pats 1-10.

The second quarter performance was what cost St Pats this game but they showed good spirit in the second half to fight back and will possibly rue the missed goal opportunities in this half. However, overall, Listry were the better team on the day and we wish them well for the remainder of the season.

Full Back Kieran O’Sullivan came off during the second half with a suspected dislocated shoulder so we wish Kieran a speedy recovery. Best for St Pats on the day were Liam O’Sullivan, Brendan Poff & Kieran Hurley.

St Pats: P Bailey, P O’Connor, K O’Sullivan, S Dowling, T O’Connor, L Poff, L Mulligan, M O’Sullivan, P McMahon, B Poff, K Hurley (0-09), Jake Foley, A Byrne, W Hurley (1-0) & L O’Sullivan (0-01 c). Subs: Joe Costello for T O’Connor (28mins); E Sayers for S Dowling (HT) & D Kerins for K O’Sullivan (inj).

Tralee Parnells Club News 16/06/14

traleeparnells 2Camogie:
Tralee Parnells were narrowly defeated by Causeway, 6-3 to 5-0, on Saturday the 7th in their final game of the first round of the U-12 Kerry County Camogie League. All players pulled together in a tenacious display of teamwork that resulted in goals for Hannah Sharkey (2), Eimer Ni Shuilleabhan (2) and Clodagh Begley. While Clodagh B’s “puc fada” kept much of the play in the opposition’s half, solid defenders like Katie O’Dwyer shut down many dangerous moves in the Parnells half. To witness in person the 200% improvement in this team, come along on Sunday, June 29th at 12 noon when all 4 Kerry camogie clubs meet again as a warm-up for the Kerry v. Carlow championship game; North Kerry venue TBD.

On Saturday, June 7th, Tralee Parnells U8/10 camogie players travelled to Causeway to participate in the first of 4 summer blitzes. The girls had no problem racking up scores with Lana O’Connell’s superb goalkeeping skills keeping opposition scores at a minimum. Welcome back to Ciara Casey and Ciara Palmer who weren’t long blowing the cobwebs off their hurleys and getting “stuck” in with Jessica O’Loughlin! It is a testament to the tireless efforts of the U6 and U8 coaching staffs that such young players demonstrate such proficiency with a hurley. Tralee Parnells will be hosting the next blitz on Saturday, July 12th at 10:30 a.m. Venue TBD.

Generous Donor:

MitchelsCounty League

John Mitchels 2-11
Spa 3-12

With a very much under strength side we staged a strong rally in the second half only failing by
four points in the end. In the first half we were all at sea in defence and Spa scored three goals two from play and the other from a penalty. Dermot Ragget made a great save for the penalty only for Spa to score on the rebound. Half time score Spa 3-6 John Mitchels 0-4.

The second half performance was much improved and we were clearly the better team to pull back a deficit of eleven points to just four in the end. Considering how many players we were missing our second half performance gives a certain amount of hope going forward.

Our next game is away to Ardfert in the Intermediate Championship next Sunday June 21st 2pm.

UNDER14 BOYS

We played our first central League division one game on Friday last and suffered a heavy defeat to Churchill. We were without a lot of our regulars but even allowing for that we put in a very lacklustre display. This was our final game before our trip to Feile on Friday week so hopefully we can put it behind us and train hard over the next two weeks.

Juveniles

U6/8/10 Our 6, 8 and 10 boys trained as usual in Healy Park last Saturday. It was a day to brush up on skills in between a busy schedule of “Go Game Blitzes” and challenge games.

U8/10 Girls Our U8/10 girls didn’t have the opportunity to take a break because they had some challenge matches on Saturday last when they welcomed a visit from Corca Dhuibhne. Both sides had 2 teams so there were 2 very skilful matches played on the morning with some lovely refreshments served afterwards. Thanks to everyone who helped make the morning a successful one for all involved.

Senior Football
8th June 2014 the Garveys Supervalu Co. Championship Round 2 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-11 Feale Rangers 1-16
We bowed out of the Co. Championship when going under to Feale Rangers after extra time in a game that could have gone anyway in the first hour with both sides having the upper hand at various stages of the game.

Conditions were tough for both sides with a constant downpour of rain throughout the game. We had two great chances of goals in the first half of the game but a great save by the Feale Rangers goalie let them off the hook. Feale Rangers had the first score a point in the 1st minute. Declan Quill replied for Kerins O’Rahillys but Feale Rangers hit a purple patch and were ahead by 0-05 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-02 at the 20th minute our second point put over by Barry John Keane.

Our last 10 minutes of this half were the best where the team dominated and had Feale Rangers under severe pressure Points by Declan Quill (2), Sean Walsh and Jack Savage had the sides level at 6 points each at half time. We had two great goal chances that could have gone in and Feale Rangers were relieved to hear the half time whistle.

The second half saw Feale Rangers put over 5 rapid points and by the 40th minute led by 0-11 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-07 following a point put over by Barry John Keane. Declan Quill put over a pointed free in the 45th minute and though Feale Rangers replied with a point a great burst by Ronan Quill when he rounded his man and was dragged down in the square resulted in a penalty which Barry John Keane slotted to the net.

Straight after Rory Molloy put over the equaliser in the 57th minute. We could have got the winner in the next few minutes but a draw was the result and extra time was played. But that was as good as it got with Feale Rangers putting over 3 unanswered points in the first half and when they slotted home a goal in the second half of extra time it was all over on the final score of Kerins O’Rahillys 1-11 Feale Rangers 1-16.

Next game is at home in the Senior Football League to Dr Crokes on Saturday next the 14th at 7.30. All fixtures are subject to change so keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for changes.

Junior Football League

Next game at home to Rathmore on Friday at 7.30pm.

Junior Football League Group 5 Charlie Kerins v Ballyheigue This game was played on Friday last in Ballyheigue. However due to an incident that occurred following a decision made by the Referee the Referee abandoned the game with 10 minutes left to play. We await further action and a decision. Ladies Football
U14/U16 U14 and U16 Ladies train every Tuesday at 6.15 in Ballyrickard.
U12 Girls Kerins O’Rahillys 6-05 John Mitchels 2-07

All the training, hard work and commitment by this U12 group of girls showed on Wednesday evening last when Kerins O’Rahillys won at the new Mitchels Complex. John Mitchels were first on the score board and went 3 points ahead before we settled to get our first score a point from Caitlin Pierce. The remainder of the first half was evenly matched score wise but had it not been for some excellent defending on our part and some great saves from goalkeeper Tara O’Connor the half time score of Kerins O’Rahillys 2-04 to John Mitchels 1-05 could have been a lot different.

We got the second half off to a strong start with a point from Olivia Nix followed shortly after by a cracking goal from Aoife O’Connor. John Mitchels replied with a goal and a point of their own to leave only a point between the sides halfway through the second half. However our girls were not giving up and fought on and hard and further goals and a few points saw us victors in the end on a score of Kerins O’Rahillys 6-05 to John Mitchels 2-07. Every girl played their part and thanks as always to all of the supporters who showed up on the night.

Team and Scorers: Tara O’Connor, Saoirse Donnegan, Lauren Scannell, Amy O’Sullivan, Niamh Moran, Clodagh Donnelly (0-1), Aoife Doody, Olivia Nix (2-2), Siobhan Griffin, Ciara Murphy (2-1), Dylana O’Regan, Samantha Wadding, Ella Houston, Caitlin Pierce (0-1), Aoife O’Connor (2-0), Alayna Gannon, Emma Sweeney, Precious Benjamin, Grace O’Connor, Sophie Irwin and Leonie Dowling.
