U12 GIRLS T1

Tralee Imperials 41-26 St. Anne’s (22/02/22)

U12 Girls T1 had a strong panel of 11 against St Anne’s.

The Imperials girls had a great 1st quarter with 4 on the score sheet 13 to 6 end of the first.

Imperials kept a strong hold throughout despite St Anne’s very strong team.

Excellent team work and impressive lay ups led to a great win.

Final score 41 to 26.

Top scorer: Sophie Rybanska 11 points, Sadhbh Dowling 8 points

U16 BOYS T1

Tralee Imperials 42-56 St. Brendan’s (21/02/22)

Our u16s took on St Brendan‘s Monday night in Div 1 of the county league.

Our defense was very effective in the first quarter and behind some fine shooting from Jamie and Tadgh we ended the period tied at 10-10. The second quarter was again a cagey affair with both defenses coming out on top. We were missing three of our usual starting five and this along with tiredness started to show in the third. We fell behind by 18 at one point but pulled it back a little to end the period down 13. 29-42.

The boys put every ounce of effort into the start of the fourth and closed the gap to 8 but Brendan’s settled and the final score was 42-56.

All the boys can be very proud of themselves and the game time experience will stand them in good stead in the long term.

Join Aidan O’Mahony On The Camino De Santiago In September

.
Aidan O’Mahony will take on the Camino De Santiago this September.

FORMER Kerry GAA footballer and CRY Ambassador, Aidan O’Mahony is set to conquer the Camino De Santiago to raise vital funds for CRY Ireland (Cardiac Risk in the Young)  and is asking the public to join him.

CRY Ireland creates awareness of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) and inherited cardiac conditions and supports those who have been affected by these conditions through access to free cardiac assessments, bereavement counselling and family support programmes.

CRY have also recently launched a new freephone helpline to offer a listening ear to those affected.

Continued below…

.

“The Camino offers an escape, and an opportunity to disconnect,” said Aidan O’Mahony. “It can be a great way to connect with nature but also embark on a journey of self-discovery and to re-focus on yourself while raising money for CRY at the same time. In 2019 when I led the team I could just see life-long friendships forming and was so moved by the stories I heard on the trip from those affected by Sudden Cardiac Death and how CRY has helped them. I am thrilled to be taking part again this year and would like for people to join me.”

“The Camino is suitable for almost anyone and is as rewarding as it is challenging, so if you are looking for a new challenge in 2022, why not conquer the Camino!”

Lucia Ebbs, CEO of CRY said; “This fundraiser has been an incredible source of funds for CRY in helping us support those affected. This year funds raised will allow us to continue to support families affected by Sudden Cardiac Death through our screening and bereavement services and also support our Freephone service, The CRY Helpline.”

Joining Aidan on the trip is CRY Trustee Liam Herlihy who lost his daughter Niamh to sudden cardiac death in 2011. She was only 21 years of age at the time.

Since then Liam and his family are screened regularly at the CRY Centre and do everything they can to support the charity. Aidan and Liam are asking people to join them and help raise funds for CRY.

The 7 night trip will take place on the 23rd of September 2022. For more information or to register interest, please visit www.cry.ie

GOLF CLASSIC: A reminder that our Golf Classic takes place on Friday 25th March in Tralee Golf

Club. The Rock has a long and storied history of golf fundraising events and this year’s edition promises to be our biggest yet. As we emerge from Covid restrictions, the Golf Classic provides our fabulous

supporters with a fantastic day out at the magnificent Barrow links course and an

opportunity to celebrate our Senior Team’s hugely successful 2021 campaign which culminated in our 13th County Champio0nship title and the return of the Bishop Moynihan Cup to the Rock.

Speaking at the recent Launch Club Chairman, Shane Lynch remarked that this year’s Golf Classic is a hugely important part of Austin Stacks’ fundraising campaign to generate much-needed finances required for the club’s pitch upgrade programme and to alleviate the costs of the Senior Team’s County and Munster Championship campaigns.

He added: “like all GAA clubs, our fundraising capability was adversely impacted by the Pandemic and we now call on all our supporters and on keen golfers in the Kingdom and beyond to get behind this fabulous event and help Austin Stacks finance the next wave of development in the club”. At the launch, which was attended by several of the County Championship winning team, Shane thanked the club’s Golf Classic committee who have worked tirelessly over the past number of months to make the event a reality, and also to Tralee Golf Club for hosting the event.

In addition to playing one of the best links courses in the world, teams of four will play for some fantastic prizes including a draw on the day for four All Ireland Football Final tickets.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-13; Ballymac 0-10.

Our round 2 game against Ballymac, scheduled for last Sunday (27th Feb), did not go ahead due to pitch unavailability. As we write we await an alternative date. The third and final round, away to St. Pats, is scheduled for this Sunday (6th March) at 12.30pm..

MINOR FOOTBALL: Keel/Listry 2-10; Austin Stacks 2-10.

This opening round of this five games Co. League, played in very blustery conditions in Keel on this Saturday (26th Feb) evening, was a typical ‘game-of-two-halves’ caused by those same weather conditions. We scored 10 points (1-7) to four in the first half when playing with the conditions in our favour while our opponents scored 12 points (2-6) to our 6 (1-3) in the second half. So great credit to both sides who played almost 35 minutes in the first half and almost 38 minutes in the second half. Another stat which was definitely weather-relayed was our score from play (four points) while we added 2-6 from placed balls.

We lead by 0-4 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter – two pointed frees by Damien Hogan, a pointed 45 by Paddy Lane and one from play by Daniel Kirby after a perfect pass from Colm Browne.

Our next point from play came in the 19th minute. Keel were on a dangerous attack when Thomas Deregee brilliantly intercepted and found Noah Townsend who passed to Daniel Kirby and Daniel’s perfect pass found Damien Hogan who put over his third of the evening. Keel pointed again in the 20th minute and then four minutes later when took the game by the ‘scruff of the neck’ when Noah Townsend scored a brilliant goal  from the penalty spot after he himself was fouled. Two more pointed frees by Damien Hogan and Paddy Lane, just before the break left us ahead by 1-7 to 0-4 at half time.

The home side made full use of the weather conditions which now favoured them in the second half and by the 39th minute they had reduced our six points half time lead to just one after they scored 1-2 – their two points coming from frees. In the 43rdminute a well-taken free by Paddy Lane found Thomas Deregee who pointed. Points were then exchanged – ours coming from another free by Paddy Lane. But the next three points came from Keel – all from frees – to put them ahead by a point for the first time in the game with 58 minutes on the clock (1-10 to 1-9). Three minutes later we got back on level terms when Damien Hogan converted from a free after Daniel Kirby was fouled. And then in the 63rd minute Noah Townsend scored his second goal with another brilliantly taken penalty and we felt that that was it. But in the 7th minute of added time Keel got through for the equalizing goal and a minute later referee Eoghan Ó Muircheartaigh blew the final whistle to leave most people present happy with the draw.

Team: Michael Tansley, Jack Slattery, Donnacha Horgan, Sean Moynihan, Ben Murphy, Luke Casey, David Lucid, Colm Browne, Daniel Kirby (0-1), Thomas Deregee (0-1), Paddy Lane (0-3 – one 45; two frees), Marc Carmody, Noah Townsend (2-0 – penalties), Damien Hogan (0-5 – four frees). Ronan Mulroney.

Subs used: Ciarán Kavanagh (23m), Ronan Carroll (38m), Seán Heaslip (49m).

We now also have an away game in round 2 against Laune Rangers (12th March). Then we have home games in the remaining three rounds against Dr. Crokes (19th March), Kenmare Shamrocks (26th March) and Kilcummin (4th April). The League will conclude with two semi finals and a final.

There has been a phenomenal growth in the  participation of Ladies Gaelic Football .This  is an excellent example of progress, as indeed is the increase in the standard of ladies football .  Our Club has a thriving ladies’ section that is constantly growing and improving in quality and competitiveness. Off the field of play our volunteers are busy working behind the scenes to drive on our fantastic ladies club.

The dreaded Covid-19 HAD brought club games and  activities to a halt at one stage and delivered many challenges to all clubs and communities. We think that because of this our team spirit has never been higher and more girls are taking up football. And always remember that success is not measured in medals, it is measured in the number of players who line out for an adult team!!

New players are always very welcome to join our friendly club. Our club covers a wide area and current players live in many different parts.
If you would like to join our fun training sessions please do not hesitate to contact Shirley (086) 8713552.

Gardaí In Kerry To Take Part In National ‘Slow Down’ Day On Tuesday

.

AN Garda Síochána will conduct a national speed enforcement operation ‘Slow Down’, supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and other stakeholders, for a 24 hour period from 7am on Tuesday, March 1 to 7am on Wednesday, March 2.

The aim of “Slow Down day” is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, to increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.

The operation will consist of high visibility speed enforcement in 1322 speed enforcement zones.

Continued below…

.

The overall objective is to reduce the number of speed related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.

Chief Superintendent Michael Hennebry Garda National Roads Policing Bureau said: “Firstly I would like to thank the majority of those who travel within the speed limits. However, our enforcement operations continue to detect motorists traveling at speeds significantly above the posted speed limits. This reckless behaviour poses a serious risk not just to the motorists themselves, but to all the road users, especially vulnerable pedestrians and cyclists. This is not just about speeding enforcement detections. It’s about saving lives”.

Chief Superintendent Hennebry continued: “I’m appealing to all road users to support us in our efforts to keep everybody safe on our roads.  Please slow down, check your speed, drive safely, not only on National Slow Down Day, but every day”.

Government Departments, Local Authorities, Public and private sector fleet operators are invited to participate in the initiative by circulating to employees the key message of “Slow Down” and, whether driving for business or private purposes, to always drive within the speed limit and at a speed appropriate to the prevailing conditions.

Tralee To Go Green For St Patrick’s Day Parade

.
.

THE St Patrick’s Day Parade in Tralee this year has adopted the theme of ‘Let’s go the Green Way’ which will promote the upcoming completion of the Greenway from Tralee to Fenit while bringing awareness to sustainability and green initiatives.

The parade will see close on fifty organisations, clubs, groups and businesses from the Tralee area take part.

A digital online programme of events will be launched in the coming days which highlight key events and activities that will be taking place from the 17th to the 20th of March in the town.

Continued below…

.

It was a bittersweet moment for Mayor of Tralee, Cllr. Johnnie Wall at the press launch for Tralee’s St. Patrick’ Day Festival Parade on Monday: “It’s been two years since we stood here for the 2020 Press launch, joking and laughing and looking forward to what was going to be my role as Grand Marshal for the Parade following many years as coordinator. A few hours later the parade was cancelled and the rest, as they say, is history”.

Cllr. Wall went on the say: “I know I speak on behalf of all my fellow councillors and people of Tralee when I can officially offer an invite to Kerry members of the Little Blue Heroes organisation to be our Grand Marshals for the 2022 Parade. These are our honorary Gardaí who are coordinated locally by the fantastic team at the Garda station in Tralee.”

Initiatives for the 2022 Parade will see Street Spectacle facilitator, Caoimhe Dunn present a Free Festival Hat Making Workshop at the Wetlands Centre on Saturday, 5th March, supported by Creative Ireland through Kerry County Council, and all Schools, Clubs and organisations are encouraged to register – https://forms.gle/mGwGN6GZHL2zFwPc6

Another first for Tralee will be an initiative to support Tralee’s quest to become an Autism Friendly Town. With some great work already being achieved in this regard, the Parade will create a ‘Sensory Street’ – a 100 meter section from Moyderwell School to Upper Castle Street where the Parade participants will shine bright with their lights but dim down with their sound.

This area will be zoned for those individuals with sensory processing challenges along with their families to enjoy the parade in a supportive environment. https://www.facebook.com/TraleeAutismFriendly/

The organising committee are also putting out a call to all local Business Owners and Managers to help the capital town roll out the Green Carpet by volunteering their time during the Parade to show both the public and the hundreds of people participating that their local businesses also support this Civic Parade.

The annual parade will depart from John Joe Sheehy Road and travel through Boherbee, Castle Street and down the Mall finishing at Bridge Street.

Street Closures and Traffic restrictions will be in place from early morning. The town will host events pre and post parade such as street entertainment, amusements, Daredevil Circus and more.

Tralee’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is funded by the Community Support Fund and is an initiative of Kerry County Council Tralee Municipal District and Tralee Chamber Alliance with support from the business community of the town.

This application was submitted under the heading of ‘A Future for All’ which places a big emphasis on inclusion in our club as our community continues to grow.

Congratulations:
Well done to club player Cillian Burke on his recent appearances for the Kerry U20 side against Cork and Galway in the John Kerins Development League. Kerry have racked up two convincing wins thus far, beating Cork 3-16 to 0-13 and Galway 0-13 to 0-06.

Operation Transformation:
Our collective efforts saw us walk from Milltown to Cape Town in South Africa with over 1000 kilometres to spare.
A big well done to absolutely everyone who walked and a special mention to Lorraine O’Sullivan finishing top of the pile pushed all the way by a fantastic effort from Colin Sweeney just behind. Lorraine walked approximately the equivalent of from Paddy Burke Memorial Park to London in the space of only 5 weeks with Colin just 10 km behind incredible stuff. And John O’Neill completing the podium too with plus 600km walked.
We will have one more walk and final weigh in on Wednesday night for those who would like to partake.
The weather hasn’t always been the best and we have had some interruptions with Covid and the likes but most importantly you all got out there to walk.
The aim at the start of this was to get people meeting each other and walking in pairs, trios, groups and I think we achieved that together. Well done everyone and keep up those groups throughout the year.

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS

50 boys and girls trained on Sunday morning in Ballyseedy. We had a great training session with a multitude of skills and games.  From the basics of the hop and solo to catching and kicking, the boys and girls showed great enthusiasm and no little skill.  Dodgeball, freeze, stuck in the mud and catch the coach were also in evidence as all had a great morning of fun and football.

We will train again next Sunday morning at 11am most likely indoors.  All new members are more than welcome.  And to those who are already members, being a friend, family relative or class mate. The more the better.

U8/U10/GIRLS

It was hard to believe the change in the weather from a week previously, when the stormy conditions had forced the John Mitchels u-8/10 girls indoors for training.

This Sunday, the weather was perfect for outdoor training and a large group of girls turned up to show off the work they had done over the week.

And it was clear to the coaches, Padraig, Tanya, Brian, and both Johns, that the extra homework they had done since the last training session was paying off. The passing was crisp and accurate, the kicking was sharp and the effort was top-notch. There was also a determination amongst the girls to fight and harry for each ball.

This was clear in the drills where the girls competed for each ball, with Ally, Emma, Siun, Tegan, Clodagh and Aoibheann working particularly hard. Following a quick drink of water, the girls took on a game. There the 2 Clodaghs were outstanding, while our newest recruit Natalie stood out, as did defensive efforts by Aeibhin, Eva, Siun, Aine and Caoimhe, with Millie’s scoring efforts particularly eye-catching. Shot of the day came from Tegan who curled the ball over the goalkeeper, but back off the crossbar.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Padraig who leaving the u 8s and u10 girls and who is joining the U14 girls’ team. Padraig was fantastic with the u 8s and 10s and the girls will miss the fun they have with him. Best of luck Padraig the girls will be back with you again in a few years’ time.

Training continues next Sunday in Ballyseedy Sports Complex. All are welcome.

U12Girls

The U12 girls season resumed with a fantastic turn out in Ballyseedy this morning. The girls were put through their paces by senior player Thomas Kerins who today focused on improving the core skills of the game. It was a session filled with kicking and hand passing drills and it was great to see that the girls were far from rusty after the winter break, as they really hit the ground running today. Intensity and focus was visible for all the coaches to see and we really look forward to working with a great bunch of girls for the season ahead.

Training resumes next Sunday morning at 12 am and we really look forward to seeing everyone again.

U14 Girls

The first training session of the season for the John Mitchel’s u14 girls took place indoors on Sunday in Ballyseedy

With new coaches Denis, Padraig, Karen, John and Eric hoping to continue the good work of John and James over the past few seasons, it was terrific to see a large group turn up for the first session.

We were delighted to have senior player Thomas Kearns take the training session in the hall, and he took the girls through some ball familiarisation skills and drills. The players and coaches were delighted to be back in action and while there was some rust at the start of the session, the old habits soon kicked in and the layers were working hard and competing for possession.

Training continues during the week and next weekend and parents will be contacted with details over the coming days.

U16 GIRLS

Training for our u 16 girls will commence on Wednesday March 2nd from 6.00pm-7.00pm.

We are looking forward to the season ahead with this group of players and seeing you all at Ballyseedy on the 2nd . All new players welcome

UNDER 9

A great session Sunday morning last, we had 23 super stars in the hall today.
To help improve on technique they need to practice for at least 10 minutes per day so try get them out or just practice at home with them.
We will try get them out weather permitting but for now we will stay inside so runners will b fine for the hall.
We are all volunteers so if u feel you are free to help out while Ur little one trains, please get in touch it would be much appreciated

Under 11Boys

We had a great turnout of 27 players this Sunday in what was a fantastic session based on soloing off both feet as well as hand passing off both hands, we emphasised to the kids the importance of practicing these core skills at home during the week. We will have town league games coming up in March followed by the County League in April – so plenty of games to look forward to! Training continues next Sunday morning on the Astro at 9.45.

Under 13 boys

Our U13s had their first matches of the season with two challenge games against a very competitive Killarney Legion who visited us on Sunday. In tough windy conditions both clubs were showing signs of rustiness but today’s games will hopefully help remove some of the cobwebs before next weeks Town League opener against Ballymac. Well done especially to all the players stepping up into U13 company for the first time today – ye all did fantastic!

Training continues Wednesday at 5.45pm and Friday at 8pm.

UNDER 15 BOYS

The u15’s train every Monday and Friday @5-45pm as we await fixtures for the coming season, we’ve trained the last couple of weeks with numbers really high so keep up the good work will let u know fixtures when they come out

UNDER 17 Boys

Our U 17s played their first game against Na Gaeil on Monday night at home. We had a lot of lads out from injury but what a great performance from everyone. Brilliant win on a score line of 5-7 to 1-9 to the Mitchel’s. Their next game is supposed to be an away game but has been changed to a home advantage. Game is Monday 28th at 7.00pm.

Training on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6.00-7.15, New players always welcome.

SENIOR LADIES

Our Senior ladies are Training Sunday Mornings. Players will be notified about training.

SENIOR MEN

Our senior men played St Pats in the next round of the town board. The game was away but due to pitch availability the game was held at the Mitchel’s grounds on Saturday evening in what you can say much better conditions than the previous week.

It was level pegging by half time with the score line being 0-04 to 0-04. Some great football was being played by both teams a crucial goal by Alan o Donoghue turned the game in Favor of Mitchel’s and Mitchel’s came out the victors in the end. Final score 1-09 to 1-06 .  John Mitchel’s face Ballymac in the next round of town league on Friday night under lights at 7.45pm

Juvenile Academy

U5

Another great training session this morning with our under 5 superstars. We’ll done to our players of the week Faye Fitzmaurice and Harry Poff .See you all again next week for more fun, all newcomers very welcome to join.

U7

We had a very enjoyable session this morning in the I.t Tralee sports campus.
Down a few coaches but Liam and James somehow managed to get the best out of them.
They practised all the skill, played a few fun games and even tried to play a full length game of football. They are looking forward to next week as everyone is picking up more and more skills as they go along. It was also great to see a few new faces there today

U8 Girls

We had 14 girls for our second enthusiastic session on Sunday morning in MTU. It was great to welcome newcomers to St Pats & girls joining us for the first time this season. We had a high energy session with fun and games designed to work on fundamentals of movement, all our skills in a fun and positive environment. The rosy cheeks and smiles said it all!

Very well done to Olivia Crotty for taking a bump & continuing in great spirits. Keep up the practice & movement girls. The more the merrier are welcome. Please do rsvp to the events on foireann so we can gauge the numbers attending each week.

U9

The u9s had great numbers this week with all our newcomers showing brilliant enthusiasm and a great skill level as well. They perfected their hand passing, soloing and had brilliant fun learning how to “punt kick”. They finished with one of the most competitive games the coaches have ever seen with a last minute goal from Fionn Sharp the difference.

U10 Girls

U10 Girls trained Sunday morning 27th at Kerry Sports Academy. 11 girls played fun games coached by Noel, Labhraidh and Nigel. They practiced pick up’s, solo’s, hand passing and kicking.

Finishing with a match the girls showed great improvement already on only their second session.

They made the job of picking a player of the week very hard this week.  Well done to Rosie Dennehy this week’s player of the week. Rosie’s solo, kicking and passing were brilliant today and had 2 goals in the match to show for her hard work. Well done Rosie and everyone keep up the good work and keep up the practice at home. See you all next week.

U11 Boys

Due to the recent inclement weather, our u11’s only got to start their season last Sunday and we had a great turnout of 21 keen and eager young men. It was great to see so many of last year’s U9’s join the ranks as well as two new players. They started with a solo game to warm up, then some target practice in front of goals and they finished with some conditioned games.

Thanks to coaches Michael, Fiacc, Brian and Joe for putting the lads through their paces. Training continues in the MTU Astro on Sundays from 11am to 12pm for now. Their first game will be in a few weeks where they will enter the Tralee/St Brendan’s U11 League before the County League starts in April.

U13 Boys

The under 13’s had their first training session at the MTU Astro, with coaches John, Conor and Fergal. It was a good active session where they practiced ball control, movement and tackling. The boys showed good enthusiasm towards the training.

In the Tralee/St Brendan’s Under 13 League sponsored by Timberland, Kitchens and Flooring St Pats are in Division 2 who will play Kerins O Rahillys on the 6th of March at 4pm In John Mitchel’s pitch.

U12 and U14 Girls

Our U12’s and U14’s had a great training session last Sunday morning. They welcomed Denis Healy on board and he introduced all the girls to a fantastic training session. On Sunday they focused on running, hand passing and kicking skills. All the girls learnt some new skills and we were so happy to welcome a few new girls into St Pats Club. Looking forward to a bright future ahead.

Tralee/St Brendan’s League Round 2

St Pats 1-06       John Mitchels 1-09

Our match was played last Saturday night in windy and damp conditions in Ballyseedy at 7.30pm. John Mitchels were first to score with a point which sailed over the bar. They added another point two minutes after. Fergal O Brien brought us into the game with a point from a free. As minutes passed John Mitchels again scored a point. Brendan Poff received a yellow card in the tenth minute.

Eoin Greaney scored a point while kicking into the wind. Not to be out done Breandan Savage scored a point from play. In the seventeenth minute Brendan Poff got sent to the side line with a yellow and red card. In a coming together Breandan Savage got a ten minute break from the game with a black card.

Number six for John Mitchels received a yellow card at this stage of the match. Eoin Greaney got us another point from a free given. It was a tough game with each side playing well considering what they were playing in. Nearing the end of the first half Eoin Greaney and Brian Murphy both got yellow cards. John Mitchels scored two points before the final whistle to bring the game to a score line of St Pats 0-04 to John Mitchels 0-04.

As the second half began John Mitchels got another point but Liam Poff came up the field to score a goal to put us ahead for the first time. Fergal O Brien added to the tally with a point. Our lead was short lived when John Mitchels got a goal and point from play.

The eleventh minute allowed Fergal O Brien to score another point from a free this time. Killian Lynch replaced Darragh Moriarty and Martin Savage replaced Cormac Lynch. In a mix of legs Niall McCarthy went down and ended up having to come off injured.

He was replaced by Damien Cronin. As the match went on John Mitchels added three more points to the scoreboard in the eighteenth minute. Number eleven for John Mitchels got a black card for ten minutes of the game.

As we moved towards the nineteenth minute Brian Murphy received a second yellow and red card to see himself getting a break early from the match. Both teams were strong and each wanted to come out on top, both marked each other well despite the rainy conditions.

With the clock running down Breandan Savage received a red card from the referee also number fourteen got a yellow card. St Pats were down to thirteen men but continued to push through unfortunately it was not meant to be and the final whistle blew with a score line of St Pats 1-06 to John Mitchels 1-09.

St Pats will play Austin Stacks in the Round 3 of Tralee/St Brendan’s League Date, Time and Venue TBC.

Congratulations

To Kerry who won against Monaghan on Sunday on a score line of Kerry 3-14 to Monaghan 1-12.

Under 17s

Our u17 minors enjoyed a special opening game against Listowel Emmetts in the first round of the county league. We travelled to Ballylongford for this encounter last Saturday.

An early goal from a free taken from outside the D by Niall Collins settled our players who gave a great display of defending and point taking in the first half. Luke Griffin was a revelation between the uprights and pulled off some great saves and was effective with his kick outs. Listowel scored a goal against the run of play on the stroke of half time to leave Ballymac one point ahead at the break. The momentum and breeze lay with Listowel early in the second half and they pulled ahead by 4 points. Ballymac regrouped and battled manfully later in this half. Jack Slattery slotted home a penalty and well taken points by Sean Rice and Niall Collins saw our team grasp victory on a score line of 2-10 to 2-8

Our backs Michael Culloty, Aidan Horgan, William ODonoghue, Tom Long, Diarmuid Galvin and Luke Horgan were kept busy throughout the game and did an excellent job. Diarmuid Galvin deserves a special mention for his fielding and tackling.  Sean Rice and Shane Gilroy were outstanding at midfield and were effective in transitioning the ball from our backs to our forwards throughout the game. Our forwards Jack Slattery, Niall Collins, Jamie Burke, Micheál Savage, Sky Lynch and Evan O’Brien, all acquitted themselves well. Again, special mention has to be given to Niall Collins who’s display of football and determination was becoming of his county minor status. We are grateful to Mairtín McGivern and Luke Silles who joined our ranks from the u15 panel and acquitted themselves well. Mark Chawkie O’Connor played in the backs in the second half and proved a worthy warrior when the Listowel pressure was piled on us

NOW in its ninth year, Kerry Month of Enterprise (KMOE) takes place during the month of March.

KMOE, a collaborative inter-agency initiative, aims to shine a spotlight on just some of the enterprise activities on offer all year round across Kerry and remind businesses in Kerry of the wide range of supports available to them, especially at this challenging time.

The month is designed and delivered by a partnership including Munster Technological University, Kerry County Council, Kerry Local Enterprise Office, Enterprise Ireland, North, East & West Kerry Development; South Kerry Partnership Development, IDA, Udarás na Gaeltachta, IRD Duhallow and various companies and organisations throughout the county.

Continued below…

.

The month gives established businesses and budding entrepreneurs an opportunity to network and discover the assistance available to them in growing and sustaining a business in Kerry. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted just how important it is for business owners to access the supports available to them within their own region.

The calendar of events for 2022, which can be viewed at www.kmoe.ie, includes over 80 events across the month. The county-wide events cater for businesses at various stages of development across many sectors from start-ups to established and growing businesses. All events musted be booked in advance.

Launching Kerry Month of Enterprise, Minister for Education Norma Foley TD, said: “Kerry is a county with entrepreneurship in its DNA and never has it been more important to support our business community. In its ninth year Kerry Month of Enterprise has grown year after year, from a small calendar of about 20 events in 2013 to over 80 events this year.

“Kerry Month of Enterprise celebrates excellence in enterprise and shines a light on the activities that are ongoing throughout the year and the value that the partners involved bring to our county. Congratulations to all involved.”

Highlights of the calendar of events for Kerry Month of Enterprise include a series of virtual “Start Your Own Business” focused workshops hosted by the Kerry Local Enterprise Office, focused on branding, food business and sales and marketing, among others.

Udarás na Gaeltachta will host sessions on how to boost online presence in a post-pandemic world and managing remote workers and SKDP, IRD Duhallow and NEWKD will host a number of events focused on supports including a Governance for Social Enterprises and Accounting for New Small Businesses.

Munster Technological University will once again play host to the Kerry Start-up Challenge, New Frontiers Showcase, and a host of other events aimed at developing entrepreneurial mindset and enterprise creation.

The Leas-Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Michael Cahill said: ‘A great deal of time and effort has gone into arranging a wide range of events over the coming weeks with the diversity of the business sector in Kerry to the fore. I want to thank the many agencies involved for bringing together and exciting and engaging programme.’

Kerry County Council Chief Executive Moira Murrell encouraged participation in the wide range of events: “The Kerry Month of Enterprise is a great opportunity, particularly at this challenging time, for businesses to engage with each other and the supports on offer from a wide range of agencies and I encourage anyone in business to take part.”

Bríd McElligott, Vice President Research, Development & External Engagement at Munster Technological University said: “The COVID19 pandemic has reinforced the need for supports for all industry sector within the Kerry region. Kerry Month of Enterprise offers a comprehensive spotlight during the month of March highlighting the various supports and initiatives that are available throughout the year. As we prepare for a post-covid business environment, we want to show-case the supports that are available to ensure that Kerry’s economic recovery is maximised in as short a timeframe as possible.”

REPORT: Kerry Come Away From Carlow With The Points

.

Mike O’Halloran was at the Allianz Hurling League Division 2A game in Carlow where Kerry emerged victorious…

Kerry 0-20

Carlow 0-13

Action from the game yesterday. Photo: Mike O’Halloran

A very impressive win by Kerry given the tragic events prior to the game, my thoughts are with the family.

Kerry went into a two point lead within two minutes with pointed frees from Shane Conway.

The next three scores came from Carlow with Kevin McDonald, Dean Tobin and Richard Coady firing over a point each.

Continued below…

.

Padraig Boyle replied for Kerry but again Carlow put four scores on the board three from McDonald and one from Chris Moran to leave the score Carlow 0-07 Kerry 0-03 with twenty two minutes on the clock.

Carlow were playing with a pretty strong wind in the first half and I was hoping that Kerry would not go in at halftime too far behind.

I need not have worried because up stepped Gavin Dooley he drove towards the the Carlow goal he was fouled and Shane Conway pointed the free.

Four minutes later Conway had pointed another free, then on twenty eight minutes Carlow were awarded a penalty.

It was poorly hit by Diarmuid Byrne, saved by Louis Dee and cleared, a couple of minutes later Padraig Boyle had reduced the margin to one point, a red card followed for Carlow and on the stroke of halftime Gavin Dooley drew Kerry level with a fine point, seven points all.

Photo: Mike O’Halloran

Kerry started the second half in whirl wind fashion when they rattled off five points without reply from the sticks of Paudie O’Connor, Paudie Ahern, Shane Nolan, Shane Conway and the impressive Padraig Boyle, to leave the score after six minutes of the second half Kerry 0-12 Carlow0-07.

Kerry looked as if they were going to cruise home, but Carlow had other ideas they drove over four points in a row McDonald with three and one from Chris Nolan.

Kerry were reduced to fourteen on seventeen minutes losing a player to a second yellow.

Padraig Boyle stopped the rot with another fine point, two more points followed from Conway with a beautiful side line ball and Ahern pointing from play, John Mike Nolan interrupted the Kerry scoring, three more points followed for the Kerry men.

On 29 minutes Padraig Boyle drove over his fourth point, Shane Conway pointed again after the brilliant Colin Walsh was fouled bringing his tally to eight.

With thirty seven minutes on the clock Niall Mulcahy made it Kerry 0-19 before Conway had the final say with point number ten to leave the final score Kerry 0-20 Carlow 0-13.

There were many stand out performances but Padraig Boyle was my player for the game with four brilliant points from play.

Next up for Kerry is Meath in Tralee next Sunday.

Kerry introduced Darragh Slattery, Dan Collins, Niall Mulcahy, Mark Heffernan, Flor McCarthy and Niall Mulcahy. Paudie O’Connor started instead of Darragh Slattery.

Mark Conway who runs the store with his wife Emir spoke of his sheer delight at hearing the news of the big Lotto win in his store. “It’s just fantastic news for our community. The entire area has suffered from continuous storms for the past few weeks, so this is a great bit of news to give us all a lift down here in Portmagee and Valentia Island. Given the time of year and of course the recent weather conditions, we haven’t seen too many tourists passing through, so we are hopeful that the winner is local.”

“Great news like this travels fast so there will be a great buzz around the area for the next few days! I have no doubt that it will give us all an incredible boost and a reason to celebrate some much needed good news for a change,” he added.

The Kerry winner is advised to sign the back of their ticket and to keep is safe.

The winner should contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 1800 666 222 or email claims@lottery.ie and arrangements will be made for them to claim their Lotto Match 5+Bonus prize.
