Sponsored: Why Working With Beam Is The Best Legal Job In Ireland

.
.

EVERY year thousands of people from all over the world apply for a dream job as caretaker on Ireland’s Great Blasket Island.

Nestled off the coast of Kerry, the island offers breathtaking scenery and a rich folklore that has produced an impressive array of authors. It’s a magical and mystical place – go there if you haven’t been.

The best legal job in Ireland is not based on the Great Blasket Island, but there are some noteworthy parallels.

You see, the best legal job in Ireland is the Caretaker of Conveyancing (aka Head of Legal Services for Beam) and it’s a crucial role because conveyancing in Ireland hasn’t improved a whole lot since Peig’s time.

When Peig and Pádraig were buying their 50 sq meter cottage for their 11 children, the deeds would have been sent from the Bank of England in London.

Much like today, someone was sent to the bank’s vault to retrieve the deeds and send them on their way.

There was always great fanfare when the deeds arrived on the island by currach after their long journey. Sometimes the package would come with a box of tea and spices from the Orient.

In those days, the King of the Island (An Rí) reviewed the contract and title alone in his cottage. A great hush would descend on the island while the King checked the boundary maps and any evidence of illegal extensions.

As was the custom of the time, white smoke would rise from the King’s chimney once he deemed it was “good marketable title” and a dance would be held in Billy Brennan’s barn.

A lot has changed since Peig bought her gaff. Technologies such as electricity, the light bulb and the automobile were perfected and universally deployed. The first airplane flight occurred in 1903.

The development of the television and computers caused massive changes in the dissemination of information. More recently the internet, smartphones, AI, cloud computing and the advent of blockchain technology have revolutionized the world.

But conveyancing seems to have missed the boat to the mainland, and still takes about 16 weeks with documents and boxes of title deeds crisscrossing the country on trains, vans, boats, and bikes.

About 20km south of the Great Blasket Island lies Valentia Island, where in 1858 an American businessman named Cyrus Field successfully connected North America and Europe by transatlantic cable, a distance of about 3,000km.

.

This was undoubtedly one of the great engineering and technological feats of its time and heralded the dawn of a new era of communications, connecting the old world and the new world in real-time.

Underwater cables still form a large part of the internet’s backbone, carrying the majority of data around the world, with one glaring exception – title deeds!

Conveyancing doesn’t need to take 16 weeks. We reckon it can be done in 4 weeks if we adopt a Cyrus Field mindset. This dream conveyancing job is for an experienced legal professional who wants an exciting challenge.

Maybe you are a little bored in your current job? Maybe your current job isn’t rewarding. In this job you’ll work with a team of technologists and innovators to dramatically improve how conveyancing is done in this country.

As a senior member of our team, you’ll be well rewarded with a competitive remuneration package.

Applicants must have greater than 5 years conveyancing experience. We have offices in Cork and Kerry, but you can base yourself anywhere provided you spend at least one day a week in Kerry and one day in Cork. If you don’t want to work a full week that’s no problem either.

We’ll be flexible for the right candidate. Interested applicants can email brian@letsbeam.ie. Your email will be treated with the strictest confidentiality.

Milltown Bowling Club:

New Year, New hobby.
Want to try something new and fun then come along to Milltown Nagle Rice community centre and have a go at short mat bowls.
All you need is just a pair of comfortable shoes for two hours of gently rolling bowls along a 1.8 meter wide x 12 meter long mat.
A timber block is placed midway along the mat and the aim of the game is to roll a bowl along the mat, avoiding the block and touching a yellow ball called the “Jack” at the opposite end.
A wooden fender is placed at both ends to keep the bowls from rolling off the mat end.
Nearest bowl to the Jack after 9 ends scores, the more of your bowls closer than your opponent the more you score.
All training and guidance will be provided along with the use of club bowls to get you started.
Once you get going then we have league and cup competitions, friendly individual and group matches along with the opportunity to play other clubs within Kerry.
Sounds simple!!!
Well the only way to find out is to come along and have a go.
First night is free and it’s only a fiver then per night for two hours of fun and learning to play one of the fastest growing indoor sports for all age groups in Ireland.
Milltown bowls club looks forward to seeing you on Tuesday and Friday nights at 8pm.

LAST weekend’s Wander Wild Festival in Killarney was a massive success with an estimated 4,000 to 5,000 people attending ticketed events and street activities.

Many ever-popular activities returned this year as well as some exciting new additions – many of which sold out.

These included Stand up Paddleboarding (SUP), a Dark Sky Hike, Kayaking, National Park Night Walks, Rock-climbing in the Gap of Dunloe, the Cummeenapeasta Ridge Walk, the Coomloughra Horse Shoe Hike and the Carrauntoohil Climbs, Samhradh’s Sauna on Dundag beach, a full weekend of Yoga & Wellness, and an intimate evening with Bressie, George Murphy & Meadbh Walsh at the ‘Pigs Lane’ concert in St. Mary’s Church.

Continued below…

.

The expanded evening programme was a real hit, with engaging fire-side chats with adventurers and a Seanchoiche evening featuring storytellers and writers. On-street music at basecamp over the weekend by many local performers really helped to build the atmosphere.

The treasure hunt at the woods in Killarney House was just one of 17 children’s activities that had little wanderers entertained over the weekend.

This year’s festival introduced autism-friendly festival activities in support of As I Am, including the Sensory Quiet Zone, and the Autism-Friendly Family Walk in the Blue Pool.

The festival’s educational programme included a very successful workshop on the Killarney Coffee Cup Project as well as an outreach programme with local schools which was a great success.

Pat Chawke, Chairperson of Wander Wild Festival, expressed his delight with the success of the festival, thanking all involved for their support in showcasing Killarney as the outdoor capital of Ireland.

“The atmosphere around town all weekend was fantastic – expanding the evening programme has been really successful as it offers people the chance to relax, enjoy and unwind in the company of other adventurers after a day on the mountains or on the lakes. The feedback from attendees is amazing and they left in awe of the place we call home.” Scroll down for photos…

Bhí rith an ráis ag however, buachaillí Chorca Dhuibhne! Our boys tried their best to narrow the gap but our opponents were ruthless in front of goal and left us 0-8 down at half-time….0-3 to 1-8.

Kerry Badminton Association News

.
Kerry U15 team.

Munster u15:

The curtain came down on the Munster Juvenile Inter County with the U15 competition in MTU, Cork. Kerry had two teams entered.

The U15A team had a comprehensive win over Cork in their first match but went down to Clare in a hard fought semi-final. It was undoubtedly the match of the day, and the score line, acknowledged by Clare, did not do justice to the quality on display. Clare went to beat Cork in the final. Thanks to Mark, who looked after the team today.

The U15B topped their round robin pool and narrowly lost to Cork on aces in their semi-final. Again, thanks to Suzanne Sheehy, Jovita Delaney, and Tom Heaphy for their help today. Greatly appreciated.

It has been a long season since we started out last October with the development squads, but very rewarding all the same, to see our players able to compete and hold their own against the other countries. Many thanks to the players, parents, supporters, and coaches for their support throughout the year.

Final championship of the year:

Last night, Friday, the Division 2 & 4 Kerry Mixed Championships in association with CPC.ie took place. Unfortunately, this competition marked the end of the county championships in Kerry for the 2023/2024 season.

It was great to see such interest as always and a big thanks must be said to the Tralee club who were in charge of running the competition and even kept everyone happy with some tea and coffee upstairs for one and all.

Many thanks to Tom Bradley for taking such great photos throughout the year at each of the competitions and to all that were involved in the running and organising of each and every competition throughout the year.

Kerry U17 team.

Munster u13 & u17

The Munster U13 and U17 Juvenile Inter County took place in UL, Limerick on Saturday March 16th.

Kerry had four teams entered and it was a day of mixed results for Kerry.

After first round success for the U13A and U17A teams against Waterford, both teams after some fine performances went out at the semi-finals.

The U13A teams went down 11-7 to Tipperary and the U17A also to Tipperary on a similar score. Tipperary went on to win against Clare in the U17A decider.

While there was disappointment all round for these two teams, they did themselves, and Kerry badminton proud.

Many thanks to Mark and Breda who looked after the teams, on the day.

While there was disappointment at one end of the hall for the A teams, the Kerry U13B and U17B, managed by Tom and Mary Bradley were quietly getting on with things.

With Limerick taking part for the first time in a number of years, it was a round robin (2 pools) for Kerry. They both topped their pools and progressed through their respective semi-finals and on to finals.

Kerry U13 team and supporters.

The U13B beat Clare 11-7and the U17B teams beat Waterford 11-5 . So, gold for Kerry after what proved to be a very long day, but worthwhile.

Many thanks again to the players, their clubs, families, supporters and our coaches who put a lot of time and work in with the teams. It is as always greatly appreciated.

The Brewster Cup team.

Brewster Cup 2024

The Brewster cup was held in the Presentation Secondary School Killarney on Sunday last. Waterford, Kerry and Cork fought it out in some very competitive badminton.

The Kerry team first came up against Cork where they just fell short in a very competitive game in which many of the games went to 3 sets and could’ve gone either way.

Cork won on a scoreline of 6games to 3.  Kerry then went on to play Waterford once again in a very close and competitive battle.

In the end, Kerry came out on top in the reverse of their first game winning 6 games to 3. In the end, Cork came out as champions and Kerry brought home the silver. Well done to all who played on the team

Minister Foley Launches Tralee Rowing Club’s Biodiversity Project

.
Minister Norma Foley joins the launch of the Canal Biodiversity Project at the Wetlands on Saturday morning.

TRALEE Rowing Club (TRC) welcomed Minister for Education, Norma Foley, to the Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre on Saturday to launch of the Community Foundation Ireland (CFI) funded TRC ‘Biodiversity Awareness Implementation Project’.

TRC produced a CFI funded ‘Biodiversity Action Plan – Tralee Ship Canal – Gateway to Biodiversity’ in 2023. This year’s follow-on project focuses on implementation of the actions identified in the plan.

Following the launch event, members of Tralee Tidy Towns (TTT) participated in a Guided Walk along the Tralee Ship Canal for a ‘Peek through the Gateway’ (a taste of what the Tralee Ship Canal – Gateway to Biodiversity has to offer) with Noel Mulligan, the ecologist working with Tralee Rowing Club.

Continued below…

.

In her address at the launch event, Minister Foley acknowledged the good work that TRC does in its core recreational and competitive rowing activities on the Tralee Ship Canal waterway.

The Minister further acknowledged the important work the club has been doing in exploring the ecology and biodiversity of the canal and creating an awareness around the important topic of biodiversity which has local, regional, national and global resonance.

The ecology of the canal is receiving particular attention as the canal’s flora and fauna is being impacted by an Alien Invasive Species, the Australian Tubeworm. It is widely recognised that the spread of Alien Invasive Species is one of the five main threats to biodiversity globally.

The participants enjoyed a very pleasant Guided Walk from the canal basin along the canal pathway to the lock gates.

The walk took in the wildlife of the canal itself, the three canal-side ponds, the 3km long vegetated canal banks and the shore of inner Tralee Bay home to the famous Tralee Bay oyster beds.

The environs of the canal has five Special Areas of Conservation (SACs), three Special Protected Areas (SPAs) and two Nature Reserves.

Biodiversity is a topic that is constantly in the media and Tralee Rowing Club’s current project is focused on creating an awareness of what biodiversity means for club members and the wider community.

More guided walks are planned for different groups along the Tralee Ship Canal – Gateway to Biodiversity and to some of the designated European Natura 2000 sites for the protection of important habitats and species.

Chairperson of Tralee Tidy Towns Brendan O’Brien said “We were delighted to support and attend this event and pilot test the biodiversity awareness walk.”

“All of our members thoroughly enjoyed the day and we learned so much about our Tralee Ship Canal biodiversity. We would like to thank Dr Noel Mulligan sincerely for his excellent talk and expertise.

“We would also like to acknowledge Tralee Rowing Club Tralee Bay Wetlands, Community Foundation, Kerry County Council Biodiversity Office  and the Local Authority Waters Programmme for supporting this excellent project and we look forward to future collaborations.”

TRALEE Warriors secured their place in the final of the Mens Basketball Ireland Development League with a win over Ongar Chasers in Moyderwell on Sunday night.

The Warriors led throughout and always had the Dublin side in check, winning out by 84-73 in the end.

They now await the winners of the second semi-final on Thursday and the meeting of Carrick Cruisers and St. Mary’s Castleisland so an all Kerry final is still a possibility.

Continued below…

.

Both sides started well with the Warriors edging the early exchanges after Lourd Renz Valenzuela had the visitors on the board in the first play and a three from Eimantas Spudulis gave the Chasers the lead.

James Fernane impressively fired down a hat trick of three pointers and when Olaf Michalczuk also struck from distance the Warriors led 18-8 but Valenzuela nailed a major score and baskets from Brady Kalemba and Matteo Fontana saw Ongar cut the advantage to 18-15 at quarter time.

David Roche and Fontana were in range for the visitors early in the second to see the Dublin outfit briefly lead but Fernane’s accuracy from distance saw him fire down another double and when Joshua Osayanrhion got in on the act with a quickfire 8 points the Warriors led 36-28.

.

Fontana was again on the mark for Ongar from either side of the arc and a double from Henry Benson saw just a single score between the teams.

However the Warriors quickly added with baskets from Dan Bowler, Osayanrhion and a three from Steven Bowler to take a 44-34 lead to the half time break.

The Warriors asserted early in the third and Osayanrhion and Padraig Fleming combined for 10 to consolidate the halftime advantage but Ongar kept the hosts in their sights through Valenzuela, Fontana, Spudulis and Kevin Shimba.

Zigi Kaletka sparked another run from Warriors that saw both Michalczuk and Osayanrhion strike with a double each and suddenly the lead was out to 16 but Kalemba hit the final score of the quarter to cut the gap to 64-50 at three quarter time.

The Chasers to their credit halved the Warriors lead early in the final quarter after Osayanrhion and Kaletka added for the hosts with scores from Spudulis, Kalemba, Roche and Benson the advantage was down to 71-64 and when Elias Owie fired in either side of a Kalemba effort it was further cut to 75-70.

However Steven Bowler steadied the Warriors ship with a cracking major score and with Ongar in foul trouble Fernane, Osayanrhion and Dan Bowler converted from the line to seal the 84-73 win in the end.

Kellihers Toyota Present New Car To Kerry Footballer

.
Kerry footballer Diarmuid O’Connor receives the keys to his new Toyota from Tim Kelliher of Kelliher’s Toyota on Friday.

KELLIHERS Toyota recently presented Kerry senior footballer Diarmuid O’Connor with a new Toyota CH-R Hybrid Electric.

The car was presented by fellow Na Gaeil man Tim Kelliher on Friday last. “When Diarmuid was only 6 or 7 and training with Na Gaeil, my job as a struggling wannabe coach ,was to hand Diarmuid the water bottle….. and to make sure it was full!” said Tim.

“So it is nice, and at the same time a great honour ,to be able to present Diarmuid with something a little bit more substantial here at Kellihers today. We wish Diarmuid continued success with Kerry and Na Gaeil and have great confidence that he will continue to prosper in Jack O’Connors new ‘Hybrid Electric’ game plan!” added Tim.

Scór: The Scór na bPaistí and the Scór Sinsear county finals were both held in the Tintean Theatre in Ballybunion last Saturday. Our kids ballad group sang their hearts out & were unlucky not to be placed.

Aoibhinn & Caoimhe Ni Shuilleabháin, Ciara Ní Mhurchú & Eva Ní Luasaigh can be very proud of their faultless renditions of Trasna na dTonnta & The Little Skillet Pot. These girls are young, very talented & I have no doubt will have great success in Scór in the years ahead.

Our Nuachleas group – Harry Rooney, Daniel Fitzmaurice, Bláithín Casey, Jane Cantwell, Farren Ní Dhálaigh, Aoibhinn O’Mahony, Rachel O’Mahony & Lily Barrett gave a great account of themselves in the Mary Quirke penned ‘The Wake’ but were outside the prizes this time around.

We had 2 entries in Scór Sinsear – Helen Sugrue in the Aithriseoracht competition, Martin Grealish, Mike O Sullivan, Liam Óg Kingston, Mary Ross, Noelle Kingston, Mary Reen & Helen Sugrue in the Nuachleas.

We won both & also came away with the shield for overall best club. The Scór Sinsear group now go forward to the Munster semifinal which will be held in Pallasgreen on April the 6th. Scór na bPaistí is finished for this year.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out in any way over the last few months. Kateanne O Connor & Nora O’Sullivan were responsible for the lovely singers, and Kateanne also gathered a Grúpa Ceoil for the district finals.

Mary Lacey & Johnny Maunsell are always so helpful to us regarding rehearsals in the club hall – occasionally at awkward times! The Nuachleas couldn’t happen without Mary Quirke. I cannot stress how lucky we are to have her in the club.

Helen Sugrue gave freely of her time to mentor our young aithriseoracht competitors. And obviously I must also mention, and sincerely thank, all those wonderful kids who took part in Scór AND their parents – none of it would be possible without you.

Scór is very much a ’niche’ activity within Na Gaeil. Of course we’re first & foremost a football club, but Scór is the cultural arm of the GAA and is a really great thing to be involved in – especially for kids.

It gives them confidence & is good fun! If you’re reading this & think you might like your child to be involved, please contact Margaret at 086 0855008. Or better again, if you’re a parent with maybe something to offer to our small but enthusiastic Scór committee, please get in touch….

U7 Training: Well done to our U7’s group who were in great spirits yesterday morning. The group participated in fun games practicing their balance, agility and coordination. Skills development included high catch, solo and fist pass, punt kick and defending. The group finished with a game.

U11 Boys Training: The under 11s were busy in the MTU yesterday morning as they prepare for the upcoming leagues. The boys are making great progress and looking forward to the season ahead.

Senior Men: Last Saturday evening our Senior men opened their Credit Union County League Division 2 campaign, taking on Glenbeigh/Glencar in Caherslee. Glenbeigh/Glencar were quickly out of the blocks and notched the first point of the game.

A blustery cross-field wind ensured that the scoring would be challenging, and it played its part in Na Gaeil’s first score. Dara Devine’s effort at a point was held up by the wind but when it dropped Jamesie O’Conner was quickest to react, and he toe-poked the ball into the visitors net to give Na Gaeil the best possible start.

Glenbeigh/Glencar added 2 points to level the game before Dara Devine pointed a free after Jack Sheehan was fouled. Dara again, this time with a great effort from play, put us 2 ahead after 21 minutes.

A great fingertip save by John Kearney kept Glenbeigh/Glencar at bay and they failed to convert the resultant 45.

Moments later great work by our forwards resulted in a turnover and Dara Devine pointed from play again. The visitors added 2 quick-fire points from play to cut the deficit to a single point but on the stroke of half-time Dara Devine bagged his 4th point of the half to leave Na Gaeil ahead 1-4 to 0-5.

The opening few minutes of the second half saw the sides exchange points (frees) before Tomás Ó hAiniféin kicked a great score from 35m to extend our lead to 3 points with 18 minutes remaining.

The next 10 minutes were to prove crucial though as Glenbeigh/Glencar added 3 points while Na Gaeil’s efforts only registered 3 wides.

In injury time Dan Goggin judged the wind to perfection to kick an excellent point to put Na Gaeil ahead once more. However, play continued for another 4 more minutes and Glenbeigh/Glencar snatched an equaliser from a free with the last kick of the game.

Final score: Na Gaeil 1-7, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-10. Next Sunday in Round 2 our lads will be on the road as they take on Templenoe at 2pm.

Minor Co. League: Our u17 team had a very unsatisfactory senario yesterday when they travelled to Ballinskelligs for their County League game against St. Michaels Foilmore/Skellig Rangers only to find out that the pitch was unplayable. This Thursday (28th) the lads are due to play Milltown/Castlemaine in a back game in Milltown at 6pm.

Seniors:

Goals win games but tonight’s game could be better described as turnovers win games as we lost out to Laune Rangers by a six point margin, 2-11 to 1-08 in Strand Road in our opening league game.

Laune Rangers,  with the stiff breeze to their backs had the opening score on 3 mins when Fiachra Clifford pointed from play but it was the next score that epitomised the first half pattern when we lost possession in our own half of the pitch,  resulting in a last ditch leg block bringing a penalty which was duly dispatched to the net by John Tyther.

Chucky,  operating at wing forward had our first point of the half from a free, which was negated immediately by a Fiachra Clifford dead ball point  before Barry John again from a free brought the margin back to 3 points.

Eoin Clifford, outstanding all through, then set in motion a move from defence and was on the receiving end of a pass some 30 metres from goal before pointing from play.

We were a further two points down as the clock ticked into the red but again, under pressure we conceded possession resulting in Daire Cleary racing clear to find the net, bringing a half time deficit of 8 points, 2-05 to 0-03. Our third point again came from Chucky who pointed well from a “45” into the wind.

Conor Hayes and Gazza entered the fray for the second half and though we enjoyed a bit more possession around the middle through Tom Hoare and Jake Foley, we continued to struggle for scores and indeed it was the boys from the Laune who garnered the first score of the 2nd half.

We continued to chase the game but a 10th minute black card for Chucky added to our woes and the Killorglin boys saw the game out comfortably despite us scoring 1-01 in added time, the goal from a Chucky penalty following a foul on Ross O’Callaghan.

Tonight was a steep learning curve for many of our players with many experiencing division 1 football for the first time; Laune Rangers were more cohesive, more conservative in possession and will be very happy with their opening outing.

We next play Kilcummin away next weekend.

Team: Rob O’Connor, Darragh McElligott, Donagh Buckley, Seán Collins, Stephen Nix, Ross O’Callaghan, TJ Heaphy, Tom Hoare, Jake Foley, Chucky, BJ Keane, Shane McElligott, Conor O’Sullivan, Sam McCarthy, Gearoid Dillane.

Subs used: Conor Hayes, Gazza, Padraig Griffin & Daniel Bowler.

The game was preceded by the launch of our new PA system and a beautiful rendition of Amhrán na bhFiann by our under 14 ladies player Sennait Foster. We would like to thank Jason Teahan of Teahan Pro Audio and Lighting for installing our new system.

Last Man Standing:

The final round of the national league on the weekend proved to be  a nail biting finish for our top 10 with James Godley, from Kilmoyley being our eventual winner  – James was tied with Fergus Kerin prior to the final round but Fergus’s goose was cooked early on Saturday night when Cavan failed to beat Fermanagh.

James had chosen Dublin as his final pick and they duly delivered when thumping Tyrone in Croke Park – James was closely followed by Norma O’Connor who also picked Dublin and John Bingham who plumped for Derry.

Remarkably, the top 3 all purchased their entries from our senior goalkeeper Rob O’Connor! Thanks Rob.

We thank everybody for their entries and congratulate James who will pick up  his winners cheque of €500 later in the week.

Golf Classic:

Our fundraising golf classic takes place this coming Friday March 29th in Tralee GC.

The organizing committee have been working hard behind the scenes gathering teams and tee sponsors and the response has been nothing short of remarkable.

We will have a full complement of participating teams plus over 100 tee sponsors – we would like to thank all those who have contributed to our efforts.

In addition to the foregoing, there will be a raffle held on the weekend for a weekend for two people in the Skellig Hotel on a bed and breakfast basis plus an evening meal; Benners Hotel, Tralee have also very kindly come on board with one nights bed and breakfast and an evening meal in their hostelry in Castle St.

Tickets are available from committee members, The Klub and Jimmy’s Foodstore – tickets for these great prizes are available at €20 each or 3 for €50.

Minors:

Round 4 of the county league took place on Sunday afternoon in Templenoe. Poor weather didn’t make an already slippery pitch any better but both sides adjusted as best they could in an entertaining opening half.

NA Fianna started brightly with the opening 2 points of the game while our own shooting was a bit off.

However Dara Murphy pushed us ahead with a cheeky chip to the net in the opening quarter. We traded 3 scores each, ours coming from Nick, Michael and Nick again from a free before Dara evaded 3 tacklers to finish the half on a high, 1-4 to 5 points in our favor.

The opening 10 minutes of the second half were tense with lots of mistakes on both sides,  before the turning point of the game as a black card each and a red for us left us with an uphill battle.

NA Fianna rattled off 10 points with the extra man as space opened up. While Sean O’Mahony and the excellent Breandàn Meehan tried to drive us out from the back we struggled to get any ball into the dangerous Nick and Dara.

Nick added 2 late frees and a point from play to leave the score 1-7 to 15 points in favor of NA Fianna.

Next up is our final league game against table toppers Ballyduff next Monday evening. Thanks to the boys and all the parents who made the long trip to South Kerry on Sunday.

Man of the Match: Breandàn Meehan

Thank you to the coaches from each group for sending in your notes.

U16 Girls:

After a relaxed week last week this week our U16’s started with training in the Astro pitch in CBS on Tuesday evening the weather was bad but our girls showed their strength by showing up in force.

It was great to have Robert O’Connor from the senior team down to give our goalie Molly a session on kick outs and shot stopping.

Our gym work is still going strong even with small numbers on Friday. The quality of the session remained high. A lot of hard work put in by the girls with core strength and general maintenance work.

It was great to have our injured Donna present  while she is nursing a sore knee.

We played our first game of the season early on a wet and windy Sunday morning.

The girls played Finuge /St. Senans on their home ground captained on the day by our one and only Fiadh Mc Carthy.

We started nervously going behind early but once we settled we proved too strong in the end winning well. It was great to see all our hard work for pre season and 5k runs paying off on Sunday, great to start the season with a win.

Congrats to our vice chair Declan and his management team on Kerry ladies qualification for the National league final following their win over Galway in Killarney on Sunday. They will face off against Armagh in the final on April 7th.

Today we chose 2 of our newer players as players of the week. Mary Sayers has had a smile on her face & great listening attention throughout. she was our well-deserved player of the week!

Our boy’s player of the week went to Conor who really got the hang of joining in the fun games & showed off his speedy feet! Keep up all the practice at home boys & girls! Go St Pats!!

U7

We had a great session in the MTU today. We practised hand passing and soloing of the ball as well as kicking for goals and pints. We finish with a very competitive game.

Well, done to Ryan who was our player of the week.

U8 Girls

We had a great session today as we joined with the U10 girls, we did kicking drills and a few fun games and played a very competitive full-length game at the end, and our very deserving player of the week was Ella, Well done Ella!

U12 Girls

Last Sunday, our U12 girls played in their first blitz of the season where they played Kerins O’Rahillys and John Mitchels, hosted by John Mitchels on their Astro pitch.

After a fun warm up combining players from all 3 clubs, we broke into two teams each and played some small sided games. All 17 girls from St Pats played very well and were very competitive in all their games.

A special mention to the U11 girls who played in their first U12 blitz and a very special mention to Olivia, Cara, and Natalie from the U10’s who played up for the day.

Thanks to Thomas Kerins from John Mitchels for co-ordinating the blitz and we aim to return the favour during the season. Before the blitz, our U12 girls put on their brand-new jerseys from our U12 girls sponsors Eamonn Costello Kerry Ltd.

A big thank to Paul Lynch from Costello’s for their support of the girl’s team. We will train at the MTU next Sunday from 11am to 12pm. The girls are all off school for the next two weeks so we would encourage all parents to take their daughters out practicing kicking, soloing and hand passing during the Easter holidays. See you all next Sunday.

U13

Our U13 game against Scartaglin did not go ahead due to no field being available. They are to play Finuge in the U13 County League Phase 1 Division 6 on Sunday 31st of March at 6pm in Finuge. Please be aware that games are subject to change.

U15

Our Under 15 panel have been back in training for the past few weeks in preparation for the Co. League which starts Wednesday evening (27th) with a game against Northern Gaels.

Throw in for this game is 6pm and the venue is Kerins O’Rahillys pitch in Ballyrickard. The wet weather we have experienced over the past few weeks has played havoc with the playing conditions of pitches and a lot of Club pitches are currently closed, hopefully the pitch in Ballyrickard will be able to host Wednesday’s match.

On Friday 29th we will have another Co league game in Ballyrickard at 6pm against Glenflesk/Kilgarvan B.

Similar to last year we are joined with Kerins O’Rahillys for Under 15 competitions and coaches Brian Murphy and Sean Daly from St Pat’s are looking forward to an active year with all these young players.

Along with the Under 15 training for the St Pat’s/KOR team a good number of our players have been participating in the St. Brendan’s Board coaching session’s at Under 14 and Under 15 level.

These sessions have been held on the Astro pitch at the MTU and have given our lads a good opportunity to train and play with players from other Clubs in the St Brendan’s District – Ardfert, Churchill and Na Gael. Thanks to Derek O’Sullivan from Churchill for organising the sessions and Lorcan Martin, Kerry GAA Games Development Co-Ordinator, for running the sessions.

At the time of writing the St Brendan’s Under 14 squad are due to play against a West Kerry squad in Castlegregory on Monday 25th at 4pm. Hopefully the forecasted bad weather didn’t prevent the game going ahead.

The Credit Union SFL Division 1 Round 1

Killarney Legion 1-09

Ballymacelligott 1-10

Venue: Killarney Legion. Date: 23rd March 24

The first game of the County League always generates excitement.  Despite the poor weather and playing conditions this year was no exception. This first-round game’s second half was thrilling and heart-stopping. Ballymac led from ten minutes into the half and with grit and determination held on to win by a point.

Killarney Legion had two points on the scoreboard before Donal Daly scored Ballymac’s first point after eight minutes of play.

After fifteen minutes of play, Vinnie Horan and Daire Keane added two to give Ballymac a one-point lead.

Darragh Lyne and Ryan O’Grady added two for Legion before Vinnie Horan scored the last point of the half. Both sets of players made the best of the underfoot conditions and we were not expecting the exciting second half they served up.

Half Time Score: Killarney Legion 0-4 Ballymacelligott 0-4.

Ryan O’Grady scored the first point of the half for Legion. Vinnie Horan shot a great ball passed the keeper and almost immediately Daire Keane added a point. It was looking good for the Ballymac side. Ryan O’Grady then scored a goal for the Killarney side and after five minutes of dramatic play, the teams were level at 1-5 apiece.

The Ballymac lads were not rattled and kept driving scoring three points in a row from Vinnie Horan, Daire Keane, and Aidan Breen. Conor Keane came on for Legion and scored a point. With fifteen minutes left, Ballymac was in the lead 1-6 to 1-8.

Legion narrowed the lead with a point from Conor Keane. After great work by Darragh Regan intercepting a Legion run Vinnie Horan scored a point, followed by another from Aidan Breen.

Ballymac’s three-point lead was brought down to one by a point each from Legions Eoghan O’Sullivan and Finbarr Murphy.

From Christy Leen in goals, all players including the two substitutes played their part in grinding out this hard-fought win. It was a great team effort, and that strong team camaraderie was critical to the win tonight.

The Credit Union SFL Div 6B Round 1

Spa Killarney 1-13 Ballymacelligott 0-15

Venue: Spa Date: 24th March 24

2024 is the first time that Ballymacelligott Club had two teams playing in the same season in the County Senior Football League.

Today we fielded a team in Div 6A having fielded a team in Division 1 last night. The players wearing the Ballymac Jersey today were a mixture of minor players from the past two years and seasoned players.

Michéal Savage made his debut with the senior team.  Our Club has been in existence for over 100 years, and it is a proud weekend for us all.

Players, mentors, and especially for everyone involved with all of these players, since they kicked their first ball at Under 6. They have all contributed to this day. These are the history makers.

A goal by Spa in the 16th Minute, against the run of play, brought them back into the game, and in the end, that goal was the difference.

Maurice O’Connell and Barry Lyons opened the scoring for Ballymac with two points. Spa replied with a point.  Four points on the trot from Michael Herlihy, Cathal White, Michael Hoare, and Barry Lyons gave Ballymac a five-point lead.

David Spillane scored a point for Spa and shortly afterwards a high ball into the Ballymac goalmouth resulted in a goal for Spa.

Spa added another point and the teams were level.  Michael Herlihy and Maurice O’Connell pointed from two frees. Spa replied with a point and added two more from David Spillane and Aidan Cronin before the halftime whistle.

Half Time: Spa Killarney: 1-06 Ballymacelligott 0-8.

Shane Gilroy opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point. Michael Herlihy added a point from a free.

Then he got a great ball from Sky Lynch and scored again. Spa reduced the lead by a point and would have had another goal but for the heroics of Pádraig Laide who saved a point-blank shot from David Spillane.

The teams were level again with fifteen minutes left when David Spillane scored a point for the Killarney side.

Michael Herlihy scored another point. Spa scored a point and Michéal Savage for Ballymac scored his first point in the Senior Football League. Spa scored another point from David Spillane.

Sky Lynch and Barry Lyons with a point each leveled the game again. Two more points from Spa before the final whistle gave them the victory.

It was a tough battle with both teams working hard. David Spillane, Donnagh Fahy, and Aidan Cronin were impressive for Spa.

Ballymac team were a credit to the club playing lovely football and working exceptionally hard for each other. Michael Herlihy, Maurice O’Connell, Cathal White, and Thespian Captain Barry Lyons were leaders on the field.  We send our best wishes to Diarmuid Lynch who was injured for today’s game.

Final Score: Spa 1-14 Ballymacelligott 0-15.

Team and scorers:  Pádraig Laide, Ciarán Brosnan, Cian Godley, Jonathan Brick, Jamie Burke, Andy Rogers, Cathal White (0-1), Shane Gilroy (0-1), Skye Lynch (0-1), Mike Hoare(0-1), Michael Herlihy(0-6),  Barry Lyons (0-3) (Captain), Maurice O’Connell (0-1), Shane McGillycuddy and Jack Tobin. Subs Used: Michéal Savage (0-1), Conor Brick, Brian Godley, Cathal Culloty and Eoghan Leahy.

Senior Ladies

Credit Union Donal Curtin Round 1

Ballymacelligott LGFA v Clounmacon Moyvane

This Sunday our Ladies Senior Team travelled out to Knockanure GAA to take on a fully loaded Clounmacon Moyvane team on their home patch. The game was played in atrocious conditions with the rain incessant making handling extremely tough.

After 15 minutes the scores stood at 3 points (Ellie McElliogott, Jill Quirke and Kate Collins) to 3 points, then from a poor turnover when we had a player free out on the flank, Clounmacon Moyvane scored a fortuitous goal which changed the game.

We got hit for 1-2 very quickly after that leaving us 2-4 to 3 points down. Ellie scored another point to narrow the gap and leave the scores at 2-4 to 0-4.

We made a few positional changes at half time and with an improved defensive performance we finished the game 2-8 to 1-6, despite playing into a very forceful wind. The second half scores came from Aishling O’Connell with a goal and points from Roisin Rahilly and Kate Collins.

Squad is as follows Kerry Hennessy, Robyn White, Grainne Galvin, Niamh Rahilly, Anna Collins, Laura Kelly, Una Kerins Morrissey, Emily O’Brien, Aisling O’Connell, Roisin Rahilly, Ellie McElliogott, Kate Collins, Emma Daly, Tina Quinn and Jill Quirke.

Scór na bPaistí

Pride of place this week goes to our Trath na gCeist team of Anna Spring, Michael Broughton, Conor Reidy and Sean Lynch who won the County title in John Mitchels clubhouse last Friday night.

After a close contest which went all the way to a tiebreak, the Parnells team emerged victorious.

We were also well represented last weekend by our Instrumental musicians Conor Reidy, Aoife Hobbert, Keelin Walsh and Sean Lynch and our solo performer Aoife Hobbert who did Parnells proud.

Lá Fhéile Padraig

Míle buíochas do gach éinne a ghlac pairt sa paráid ar la fhéile Padraig. The club would like to thank all the young boys and girls that marched in the parade on St Patricks Day.

We had a great turnout in fantastic sunshine.  Many of the boys and girls displayed their hurling and camogie skills while others were busy waving the club flags and banners.

Tralee Parnells players of the week Fiadh and Darragh at the MTU Hurling & Camogie Academy last Saturday

Academy Training
We had another fantastic attendance at the academy training last Saturday. Well done to all the girls and boys who came along.  Congratulations to our players of the week Fiadh and Darragh.

With just one Saturday session remaining at MTU we hope to see an extra large turnout next weekend.  The session is for U6 to U10 boys and girls and takes place on Saturday from 3-4pm at MTU sports academy.

Remember to bring a friend and if any parents are interested in getting involved in the Club please let us know! Boys and girls who have not tried hurling before are very welcome to come along and give it a go.

Hurleys and helmets will be supplied by the club for the first few weeks. €3 to cover the cost of the hire of the hall.

Schools Camogie
Well done to all the players who competed in the Allcare Kerry Schools 1st Year Camogie blitz held in and hosted by Mercy Secondary School Mounthawk during the week. 5 teams competed from Causeway (x2), Mercy Mounthawk, Presentation Tralee & Kanturk.

Overall winners were Causeway Comprehensive who had a narrow win over Mounthawk in the Final. It was fantastic to see Tralee Parnells so well represented between Presentation Tralee and Mounthawk School and potentially new recruits with girls trying out Camogie for the first time!

Senior Hurling

Our Senior hurlers played Causeway in a North Kerry League match last Wednesday night under lights in Caherslee. Despite the midweek fixture, Parnells were able to field a relatively strong team and matched a full strength Causeway team throughout.

But for a few defensive lapses, which allowed Causeway in for 2 goals, the result could have been different. In the end Causeway were just about value for their win.

Final score: Tralee Parnells 1-14 Causeway 2-16. We wish Rory Reen a speedy recovery from injury which he picked up in the match. Next up for the Seniors is a home tie vs Dr Crokes in Division 1 of the County Hurling League on Good Friday at 7:30pm. Please come along and support the lads.

John Mitchels GAA Club News

.

Congratulations – to silver medalist Mairead Dowling in the County Scór finals representing John Mitchels and to Amy Noonan and Grace Regan who lined out with the Kerry U14 A panel this week.

We are so proud to have the girls wearing the green and gold of Kerry along with fellow club player Kerry Falvey, Kerry U16s.

Senior Men – Our Division 2 team played Beaufort at home in the first round of the county league and our Division 6 team played Kenmare Shamrocks on the same day at home. Victory went to both visiting teams on the day.

We play Ballymacelligott in our Division 6 fixture next weekend on Friday evening in Ballyseedy  under lights at 7.30pm. We are away to Kenmare in our Division 2 game on Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm.

All support at both games would be much appreciated. On behalf of all of us in the club we wish Mickey Kelleher a speedy recovery.

Senior Ladies – Well done to our Senior Ladies who were victorious over Southern Gaels B at home. In spite of the inclement weather conditions, Simi Ogungsbesan won the opening throw in and put the home side on the offensive and following some great teamwork by Shauna Hannafin and Ciara Falvey a deft pass from Sarah Kilgallen saw her sister Rachel blast the ball to the net for a wonderful start for the home side.

The South Kerry outfit responded with a well taken point from Brid Curran after 5 minutes.  Straight from the kick out, however, by Kayleigh Collins, Oonagh Mc Grath found Tanya O’Connor who played a lovely pass to Shannon Martin who offloaded to Diana O’Keeffe who passed to Ava Buckley and Ava drove a brilliant shot from the 13-metre line to the net to extend their lead.

Southern Gaels replied with 2 pointed frees from Katie O’Connell to reduce the lead to 3 points but Shauna Hannafin slipped in Ava Buckley for a point in the 20th minute to increase the lead and 2 minutes later Ava added another point following good work by both Tanya and Claire O’Connor.

A point from Iona Wynton just before half time for the visitors left the half time score 2-02 to 0-4 in favour of John Mitchels.

Simi again won the throw in at the start of the second half and found her midfield partner Sarah Kilgallen who played a wonderful pass to Ava Sharma and Ava found Ellie O’Rahilly who calmy stroked the ball into the corner of the Southern Gaels net to increase the lead to 7 points.

From the kick out Eabha Mullen found Simi who played in Ava Buckley for a wonderful point.  Sandra Dillon then replied with a well taken goal for the visitors but almost immediately Diana O’Keeffe won the kick out from Kayleigh Collins and played a long ball to Ava Buckley who beat the Southern Gaels defence and blasted to the net to restore the home teams 8-point lead.

Points from Simi and Rachel then increased the lead before Sarah O’Connor found the net for the visitors midway through the second half. Ciara Falvey then kicked a wonderful point from 35 metres range and although Southern Gaels added points from Iona Wynton and Sarah O’Connor, Ellie O Rahilly went on a mazy run before picking her spot in the corner of the net to put the issue beyond doubt.

Just before the end a great move involving Oonagh Mc Grath, Ava Sharma, Shannon Martin, Eabha Mullen and Claire O Connor saw Rachel Kilgallen complete the scoring with a point from long range to leave the final score 5-07 to 2-06.

The very sporting game was excellently handled by match referee Eddie Barrett. We play Kilcummin in Round 2 on April 14th and Round 3 at home to Glenfesk on April 21st.

Minor Team – Our minor boys team played Listry/Keel in challenging conditions on last Monday evening coming out victorious on the narrowest of margins with a one point win. Well done to all of the players for the valiant effort they put in.

We went on to play Laune Rangers on Sunday the 24th and despite an excellent display by our players, in really challenging weather conditions, a last minute goal by Laune Rangers in the sixth minute of extra time, saw John Mitchels defeated by one point on a final scoreline of 2 10 to 2 09.

Onwards and upwards and we will post further fixtures on social media. Training continues with details to be sent to parents group by WhatsApp.

There will no training next weekend as we are giving our coaches a well earned break. Enjoy the long weekend and we hope you enjoyed your Easter Eggs.

Under 12 Girls – The U12 girls GAA blitz at John Mitchels was a delightful affair as St. Pats, Kerins O’Rahillys, and the host team, John Mitchels, came together for an hour of spirited Gaelic football.

With everyone warming up together and participating in ice breaker games, the atmosphere was warm and inclusive. Laughter and cheers filled the air as the girls showcased their skills on the field, supported by enthusiastic spectators. Despite the competitive nature of the games, the focus remained on fair play and enjoyment.

Each team displayed moments of teamwork and determination, embodying the true spirit of the sport. As the final whistle blew, it was evident that the event had been a success, leaving players and supporters alike with fond memories of a fun-filled day of Gaelic football.

A heartfelt thank you to all involved in making the blitz a memorable occasion, reflecting the values of friendship, camaraderie, and community at the heart of the GAA.

Under 11 Boys – On Sunday morning we had another fantastic turnout for training. We started off with a warm up followed by some drills where we practiced some of the core skills of the game, hand passing and the punt pass.

We then played a game where the boys showed great energy and worked really hard despite the wet and windy conditions.

The boys are due to play Na Gaeil this Thursday in our first game of the season (weather permitting!). Parents will receive a message from the coach’s during the week. Until then keep practising.

Under 13 Boys – Our Green team had their second outing in the Town League on Friday night in winter like conditions with both teams running for cover from hailstones showers!

Our lads started slowly, but with our older boys showing great leadership and younger boys growing in confidence, Mitchels soon found their groove to record an impressive  win in the end .

Big thanks to Ballymac for a sporting game. Both teams were due out against Na Gaeil in our first county league games but unfortunately weather conditions put a halt to this as pitches were unplayable. We train on Monday with S&C at 5.45 pm followed by a pitch session at 6.30 pm.

PHOTOS/REPORT: Warriors Knocked Out By Éanna’s Late Sucker Punch

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors bowed out of the InsureMyVan.ie Mens Super League after a last second sucker punch from Éanna knocked them out of the post season playoff at the quarter final stage.

Having edged ahead in the dying seconds with two clutch free throws from captain Eoin Quigley, the Warriors needed to defend an inbound play from the hosts with 2.7 seconds on the clock.

Kristian Andabaka’s cross court pass was fielded by James Gormley above Warriors Cian Sullivan and he calmly tapped in for the winning basket.

.

It was a roller coaster of a game from start to finish with both sides having their runs and periods of dominance but in the end it is Éanna who go through with a meeting with Maree and for the Warriors it is the end of the road for this campaign.

Éanna were first on the board twice through James Gormley in the frantic early exchanges but an Eoin Quigley three got the Warriors in gear and an inside effort from Rap Buivydas edged the visitors ahead.

Kieran Donaghy, Cian Sullivan, Caleb Jordan, Elijah Weaver and Daniel Jokubaitis opened their personal accounts one after the other to see the Warriors lead 17-14 but Matthew McClain and Mark Reynolds struck late in the quarter to see Éanna lead by the minimum 20-19 at quarter time.

The Warriors embarked on a devastating run in the second that threatened to blow the game wide open.

Continued below…

.

From the moment Quigley found the basket again to Jokubaitis’ first three of the night, the Warriors had doubled their quarter time score to lead 38-26 just past the midway point in the quarter.

Éanna’s resistance came from their dangerman Josh Wilson from either side of the arc and when Sean Jenkins found the basket for the first time the gap was back to 10.

The Warriors pushed on again and Jordan, Donaghy and Jokubaitis combined to widen the gap but a crucial three from Jenkins held the half time score to 46-33 to the Warriors.

Whatever was said in the Éanna dressing room at the long break worked the oracle as the hosts simply blitzed the Tralee side with a relentless run that saw them play their way right back into the contest and turn the deficit around to lead late on.

Despite back to back dunks from Sullivan and another tough effort from Buivydas for Warriors early on, four threes in a row for Éanna from Wilson, Andabaka and tow from Jenkins cut the lead back to 8 and when Wilson, Gormley and Desnica combined the advantage was down to a single score.

Caleb Jordan stopped the rot for Warriors but Jenkins immediately hit back with his third three of the quarter to level at 55-55.

Buivydas and Donaghy and Gormley and Andabaka exchanged scores as the clock ticked down but Wilson would have the final say in the quarter with a major score to see the hosts lead 62-59 at three quarter time.

.

In a frenetic and at times chaotic final quarter the Warriors fired their way back into the lead when threes from Weaver, Quigley and a cracking effort from Darragh O’Hanlon edged them 70-69 ahead with Wilson, McClain and Jenkins keeping Éanna ticking over at the other end.

The sides were level on no fewer than five occasions but Jenkins fifth major of the night and a double from Wilson saw Éanna lead 76-74. Jokubaitis found his range in timely fashion to strike from distance and when Weaver danced his way to the board the Warriors led 79-76.

The hosts struck back again as the atmosphere in Colaiste Éanna reached fever pitch with Wilson again the go to man for the hosts and Andabaka converting from the line to see the hosts lead by 80-79 inside the final minute.

However Wilson was called out for a block on Quigley as he drove to the Éanna board and the Warriors captain calmly swished the clutch free throws to look like giving Warriors the win.

However there was one final twist in the tail as an Éanna time out allowed them restart with 2.7 seconds on the clock and with the Warriors desperate to lock down all options, Kristian Andabaka found James Gormley with a pin point pass and he nailed the winner on the buzzer to see Éanna through to the semi final meeting with Maree next weekend.

Éanna: Josh Wilson 21, Sean Jenkins 19, Kristian Andabaca 16

REPORT: Kerry Reach League Final After Victory Over Galway

.

Dan Kearney reports on the Kerry ladies’ win over Galway yesterday at Fitzgerald Stadium…

Kerry 2-11

Galway 0-12

Hannah O’Donoghue came off the bench and struck for 1-2 as champions Kerry were made to fight all the way by Galway at Fitzgerald Stadium in this Lidl NFL Division 1 contest.

Kerry’s win propels them to the Lidl NFL Division 1 final for the second year in a row where they will defend the title they claimed in 2023 against Armagh on April 7 at Croke Park.

Dublin’s dismantling of Armagh on Saturday meant that Kerry knew that only a win would do against a Galway side that will now go face Waterford in their refixed tie to see who will stay up in Division 1.

Continued below…

.

Kerry started in whirlwind fashion and found themselves 1-3 to 0-1 ahead after 14 minutes. Niamh Carmody got the home side off the mark in the second minute but Roisin Leonard equalised three minutes later with a brilliant free off the ground from 40 metres.

Kerry struck for a fortunate goal when Danielle O’Leary looked to be shooting for a point but it dipped into the top corner of Dearbhla Gower’s net. Lorraine Scanlon pointed from the kick out and the lively Katie Brosnan popped over another to push Kerry 1-3 to 0-1 ahead.

From there on Galway started to take control of the half and they struck for four points on the bounce as they attacked Kerry in waves. Indeed, they may have had a goal in the 28th minute but for a last ditch block by Kayleigh Cronin on Emma Reaney.

Roisin Leonard pointed another free from the ground, Emma Reaney, excellent in the Galway forward line hit a brace, and then Aoife O’Riordan struck on the stroke of half time to leave the visitors just one in arrears, 1-3 to 0-5, at the break.

Continued below…

.

Substitute Niamh Ní Chonchúir and Roisin Leonard (free) traded scores at the start of the second half before Shauna Hynes gave Galway the lead for the first time in the game two minutes later.

Kerry awoke from their slumber and hit three on the trot thanks to two Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh frees and a monster effort from Anna Galvin to push the hosts 1-7 to 0-8 ahead in the 42nd minute of what was turning into an absorbing contest.

Leonard struck another free for the visitors and Emma Reaney with herthird from play but then came Kerry’s second goal when Ní Chonchúir fed O’Donoghue who finished expertly to the back of the net.

Both sides exchanged scores near the finish, including two from the excellent O’Donoghue, and Kerry had done enough to book a final date in Croke Park in a couple of weeks.

THERE were standing ovations over a number of performances at Siamsa Tíre this week, as the young cast from Bryan Carr’s School of Performing Arts staged ‘Shrek The Musical Jr’.

The students of the local stage school in Tralee — who are celebrating 15 years in business this year — performed sold-out shows on Thursday and Friday night, as well as special shows for schools over the past few days.

“We added three shows for schools — where over 15 schools attended from as far away as Cork — and they were all amazing,” said Bryan. “We had kids from the age of five to 18 on stage playing lead parts, performing for children their own age.”

After staging ‘The Little Mermaid Jr’ production at Christmas, the stage school started rehearsing for ‘Shrek…’ in early January and the hard work certainly paid off with audiences leaving happy.

REPORT: Kerry FC Earn Another Draw Away From Home

.

David Moriarty reports on Kerry FC’s game in Ballybofey last night where the points were shared…

FINN HARPS 0-0 KERRY FC

Kerry made their longest trip of the season on Friday evening as they took on Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Kerry picked up one point in the two visits to Finn Park last season and Conor McCarthy’s side hoped that they could gather their first three points against the Donegal side since their inaugural season last year.

Harps striker Success Edugon, whom Kerry are familiar with from his great performances last season for Treaty Unite has been in fantastic form so far in the opening five games this season.

Continued below…

.

Kerry’s back five setup were hopeful they could neutralise the striker on a chilly night in the hills.

Antonio Tuta returns to Finn Park for the first time since leaving to join Kerry at the start of the year. Tuta showed a blinding display against Kerry in the side’s last meeting saving an array of great efforts and being equal to a Leo Gaxha penalty to level the game in the late stages.

Kerry FC were undefeated in their previous three games going into the battle against Finn Harps.

They were looking for their first win of the League of Ireland season and were hopeful that a win in Donegal could kick-start their season.

The game started as a close contest with Kerry getting off the mark first through a shot from Victor Udeze. Although the shot was on target it fell easily into the arms of Tim-Oliver Hiemer.

Harps got through with possibly the best opportunity of the game at the early stage. A pass fell into the path of Success Edugon, he lifted the ball over Antonio Tuta and thankfully Samuel Aladesanusi was on hand to clear the ball off the line and clear the Kerry FC line of defence.

Ryan Kelliher had the next shot at goal in the game. He received the ball on the left side of the area just outside of the box.

Continued below…

.

He tried to whip his effort into the top left corner but unfortunately, it hit the roof of the net and the game remained level after the first twenty-six minutes.

Finn Harps showed the most dangerous signs towards the end of the first half. The first warning sign came as Shane McMonagle had his header saved brilliantly onto the crossbar by Antonio Tuta.

The home side had another chance go begging as a scramble in the box eventually ended up well wide of Tuta’s goal.

Harps would be disappointed with themselves that they could not find a way through the Kerry back line. Kerry’s back five setup were well up to the challenge that the home side conveyed towards them.

If they could build onto the defensive display in the second half and get a few more chances on goal, there was nothing stopping Kerry from coming away with all three points.

Finn Harps came out of the traps fast in the second half with a shot from distance being brilliantly blocked by Ryan Kelliher and directed out for a corner. The corner subsequently was collected very calmly by Antonio Tuta.

Victor Udeze got forward again like the start of the first half to make a bit of space for himself to let fly from a decent distance.

The shot had very little power on it, but the precision nearly brought it into the bottom left corner. Unfortunately for Udeze and Kerry, the shot did go wide of the Harps’ goal.

Kerry dominated play from the seventieth to eightieth minutes with a free kick from Sean O’Connell going on target but not troubling the keeper.

Ronan Teahan and Steven Healy also added long-range efforts in those stages but did not harm Hiemer in any sort of way.

Finn Harps troubled Kerry in a ten-minute stage of the second half where they gained eight corners in that time but every one of them was cleared by the superb Kerry defensive side.

Despite a late flurry of attacks from Finn Harps, none of them materialised and the game finished in a 0-0 draw.

Kerry played their game plan perfectly and was unlucky not to come away with the three points. That is now four games unbeaten for the Kingdom as they look to make their way further up in the First Division standings.

They take on Wexford FC back at home in Mounthawk next Friday where they will be hopeful to finally gain their first League of Ireland win in their home ground.
